I was drawn to this book by the title and the great cover. Not because I'm 'fascinated' by stories about people with multiple personalities. Maybe because I read non-fiction books about this condition, maybe because I met some people with this condition. And although the author described how Frank, the first alter that seeks the help of psychiatrist Justin Wright, really suffers from it, it was a tad too much for me how he described the other alters and what happened with them and Justins family. I would have liked it all a bit more drawn out, with more background and not so much coincidences. The writing was fine, though, so I finished this short book in a day and I'm actually curious about the next book because there is a good cliffhanger. Maybe I will like that one better.

Thanks to Netgalley for this review copy.

I had previously read some information on Altered and knew that it was to be the 1st in a new series of books based on the character Justin Wright a clinical psychiatrist in New York.

Described as a suspense thriller, Altered didn’t disappoint and had a couple of what I call my flappy hands moments.

What could have been confusing wasn’t as Rob makes things nice and clear concerning the Alters

The character build up is great, we get to know Justin, Mandy and Dylan just enough, but as this is the 1st in a series of books, we don’t know the full history or whether there are skeletons in the cupboard.

I think it is important that the reader knows from the start this is the 1st in a series of books, it is almost like a pilot episode of an upcoming tv mini-series.

The suspense is in there, not too many shocks and not farfetched but that doesn’t deter from the writing and the story.

As a standalone book I would have rated it lower, but for a book setting the foundations for a series of books it was absolutely spot on.

I just hope we don’t have to wait too long between books there is so much more about the characters I would like to know.

Altered
A psychological thriller that keeps you guessing until the very end!
by Rob Kaufman

WOW! This is one great book. I had to read from page one to the end. This book was one about a man with multiple personalities (“alters”) and will change Frank Wright's clinical psychiatrist, and family in the most heartbreaking way. I knew the evil was coming, but it still broke my heart. I cannot wait for the follow-up book out in 2023. Very well written, and worth every minute.

I really enjoyed the exploration of different perspectives and relationships in this clever thriller. I am looking forward to reading the next book so I can get answers to the mystery introduced as a sub-plot of this one, too. I liked the plot and the way in which the author introduce the characters and scenarios. My only criticism would be that, at times, it felt a bit rushed,

Altered by Rob Kaufman A psychological, suspenseful and unpredictable story. Interesting information incorporated into the story about multiple personalities and the different treatment methods available. Mr Kaufman notches up the tension in each chapter and with each new character introduced. Seemed like two storylines at first; however, they were skillfully woven together in the last chapters. To be frank, I highly recommend reading this story. Write fast, Mr Kaufman, am curious as to what is going to happen in the next book in the series.

Thank you to the Rob Kaufman, publisher, nd Netgalley for the opportunity to preview the book.

Thanks to NetGalley, Rob Kaufman and BooksGoSocial for the opportunity to read Altered. It was an excellent read, catching me from the beginning. I was so excited about reading this book, I stopped within the first few pages to look up other titles by this author and write him a message that I was glad he wrote psych thrillers. It was an amazing ride with tension building throughout until the final twist ending. The characters were overwhelmingly real and the plot was very different from most psych thrillers. This is a winner!

I really enjoyed reading this, it was what I was hoping for as a beginning chapter in this type of series. I really had a great time reading this and enjoyed the way Rob Kaufman wrote this. I was hooked from the first chapter, I knew I was in for a good suspenseful novel. I was glad to read this and really look forward to read more from this series and from Rob Kaufman.

“Kyle, if something bothers you, it’s not ridiculous.” Robertson uncrossed his legs. He placed his elbows on his thighs and leaned forward. “You mentioned the word ‘hate.’ Is it ‘hate’ you feel or do you think it might be ‘envy’?”
