When Frank Devlin walks into Justin Wright's office, the renowned New York City clinical psychiatrist makes the decision to take on one of the most challenging cases of his career.
Justin is determined to help Frank, a young man with multiple personalities (“alters”), live a happier, more fulfilling life. Little does he know that Frank, and his alters, are secretly weaving themselves into Justin’s life in ways that will affect the Wright family forever.
A suspense-filled story driven by emotion, angst and the ultimate revenge, “Altered” brings readers down a twisted path of uncertainty and mind games - leaving them shocked, heartbroken and questioning what could possibly come next.

I really enjoyed reading this, it was what I was hoping for as a beginning chapter in this type of series. I really had a great time reading this and enjoyed the way Rob Kaufman wrote this. I was hooked from the first chapter, I knew I was in for a good suspenseful novel. I was glad to read this and really look forward to read more from this series and from Rob Kaufman.
“Kyle, if something bothers you, it’s not ridiculous.” Robertson uncrossed his legs. He placed his elbows on his thighs and leaned forward. “You mentioned the word ‘hate.’ Is it ‘hate’ you feel or do you think it might be ‘envy’?”
Thanks to NetGalley, Rob Kaufman and BooksGoSocial for the opportunity to read Altered. It was an excellent read, catching me from the beginning. I was so excited about reading this book, I stopped within the first few pages to look up other titles by this author and write him a message that I was glad he wrote psych thrillers. It was an amazing ride with tension building throughout until the final twist ending. The characters were overwhelmingly real and the plot was very different from most psych thrillers. This is a winner!
Altered by Rob Kaufman A psychological, suspenseful and unpredictable story. Interesting information incorporated into the story about multiple personalities and the different treatment methods available. Mr Kaufman notches up the tension in each chapter and with each new character introduced. Seemed like two storylines at first; however, they were skillfully woven together in the last chapters. To be frank, I highly recommend reading this story. Write fast, Mr Kaufman, am curious as to what is going to happen in the next book in the series.
Thank you to the Rob Kaufman, publisher, nd Netgalley for the opportunity to preview the book.
I really enjoyed the exploration of different perspectives and relationships in this clever thriller. I am looking forward to reading the next book so I can get answers to the mystery introduced as a sub-plot of this one, too. I liked the plot and the way in which the author introduce the characters and scenarios. My only criticism would be that, at times, it felt a bit rushed,
I had previously read some information on Altered and knew that it was to be the 1st in a new series of books based on the character Justin Wright a clinical psychiatrist in New York.
Described as a suspense thriller, Altered didn’t disappoint and had a couple of what I call my flappy hands moments.
What could have been confusing wasn’t as Rob makes things nice and clear concerning the Alters
The character build up is great, we get to know Justin, Mandy and Dylan just enough, but as this is the 1st in a series of books, we don’t know the full history or whether there are skeletons in the cupboard.
I think it is important that the reader knows from the start this is the 1st in a series of books, it is almost like a pilot episode of an upcoming tv mini-series.
The suspense is in there, not too many shocks and not farfetched but that doesn’t deter from the writing and the story.
As a standalone book I would have rated it lower, but for a book setting the foundations for a series of books it was absolutely spot on.
I just hope we don’t have to wait too long between books there is so much more about the characters I would like to know.
A psychological thriller that keeps you guessing until the very end!

WOW! This is one great book. I had to read from page one to the end. This book was one about a man with multiple personalities (“alters”) and will change Frank Wright's clinical psychiatrist, and family in the most heartbreaking way. I knew the evil was coming, but it still broke my heart. I cannot wait for the follow-up book out in 2023. Very well written, and worth every minute.
Wow , great book from this author. I loved the story and how the characters came together in the story. Interesting trying to understand the different personalities within Alex.
Definitely need to read the next book now .Looks like it'll be my new series to follow , can't wait for the next . Definitely 5 stars from me , would highly recommend
This book gripped me right from the start and hooked me all the way through. The writing style was good and the story was compelling with a cast of well developed characters. Fullof twists and turns, I loved it.
This is a gripping psychological thriller about multiple personalities. The writing style was lovely and the end of the story good.
Altered by Rob Kaufman is the first book in a new series featuring Justin Wright, a clinical psychiatrist in New York City. Justin is an experienced professional who has worked with a variety of cases, but his current patient will be a challenge – a young man presenting multiple personalities or alters will require all of Justin’s expertise and energy.
Altered is well-written, with building suspense, interesting characters, a good premise, and gut-wrenching moments. Mr Kaufman has very successfully introduced his characters and added depth to their personalities, thus setting the stage for his next book. Altered was difficult to put down and I’m afraid dinner was delayed more than once because I had to read “just one more page”.
Thank you Mr Kaufman for an entertaining book. I’m looking forward to more in your new series.
Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for providing a copy of this book for review.
This was the first book I have read by this author and I liked it a lot. The plot was good and held my interest. I do wish at the end there was a little more suspense but it looks like it continues in the next book which I intend to read.
Loved this book - read it in one sitting. It involves many facets of a family - from the disappearance of the younger brother to the new strange roommate that ingratiates himself into the older son's apartment. It will keep you on the edge of your seat - I cannot wait to read the sequel to see what happens to this family!
This was such a good, interesting read. I didn’t want to put this down.
It’s a story about a man named Justin who is a psychologist and his patient who has DID. He tries to assist him but his patient tries to infiltrate himself into Justin’s life.
Can’t wait to read book 2
Altered by Rob Kaufman was an excellent, engaging and shocking read. I devoured this book in a day, and one of the driving factors of this is its riveting plot. The pacing of this book is fantastic. Justin Wright is an emphatic, understanding and great protagonist. The author does a great job of shedding light on dissociative identity disorder (DID) and the potential ways of coexisting with it. The topic covered is brief as the patient, Frank, inadvertently integrates himself into Justin's life.
Additionally, the characters are fleshed out well and complement the plot. The subplot is a silent undercurrent that brilliantly pays off well in the gut-wrenching and emotional ending. Apart from DID, the book deals with the impact of secrets, communication, trauma and childhood memories. I am pleased that this book is the first in the series, and I cannot wait for the second one to come out! I recommend this one if you're a fan of psychology and suspense.

This was an interesting read for me, as I have a friend who has recently gone through a similar experience, including a court case. A difficult subject to cover, but it was well-written. A recommended, interesting read.
