I was so excited to receive the ARC of this book. I've followed the Sullivan's on tiktok and Instagram for a very long time. I remember crying happy tears for them when they announced Rachel's pregnancy. I personally have struggled with infertility and PCOS. I wish this book had existed 15 years ago when I was first diagnosed. it would have made it so much easier me. This book is such an amazing tool for women. I have pre-ordered my copy and look forward to having a physical copy to have a reference guide as I regularly have questions. the recipes look delicious and I plan to make some soon.

This book was amazing. I am fans of Tom and Rachael Sullivan. I first found their page while they helped feed college students in their town. They would post about it and I thought it was so inspiring. Just to find some way to help out the community. Enter when I saw that they were publishing a book. I could not wait to read it! One thing to note is I do not have PCOS. So I will not be the best judge on if their solutions work for just anyone. However, I do feel like they did a great job of encourage people to figure out what works for their bodies. They gave very helpful tips. Some of these tips and recipes would benefit anyone. I look forward to trying some of the recipes soon! Also the structure of this book I felt like was very easy to follow. I hope that this will not be the last we see from them. They seem like a fantastic duo.
Read if:
you or someone you know has PCOS
Interested in learning more about PCOS
you love seeing a couple work together

Thank you Penguin Random House publishing for the ARC copy! All thoughts are my own!

Lots of information on PCOS and the menstrual cycle. Clear, concise, detailed.

A good variety of recipes for the different phases of the cycle.

Substitutes were mentioned. Recipes were straightforward.

I would have liked more than the 20+ recipes that were included here but overall it’s a good resource.

My thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC.

Good intro to anti-inflammatory coming. The authors have no special training or education but did consult with a medical doctor. Seems too have a very narrow intended audience - those of dual income, healthy, regular kitchen/fridge/fresh food access, child-bearing age, menstruating adults with a partner. The authors advocate a low carb diet, no gluten soy or dairy. They do eat animal proteins but substitutes are mentioned. They also advocate for avoiding birth control. No discussion of other life phases (pregnant, per-menopause, etc) is addressed.
Recipe section is divided into 4 sections based on cycle phases. There are not necessarily breakfast lunch and dinner recipes for all phases but there is a suggested 28-day meal plan as well as shopping lists for each phase.

I was diagnosed with PCOS back in 2009 and I was never guided on dos and don'ts. Especially when it came to food!! Meals She Eats is such an amazing resource on how to manage your diagnosis while still enjoying delicious foods.

For those who have just been diagnosed with PCOS, Meals She Eats was such a GREAT introduction to how to manage with delicious foods. I love following Tom and Rachel on social media and their love is all on these pages. They made their cookbook as fun as their life. This is such a great asset to have on my bookshelf and I can't wait to try all the recipes. It is a bonus to be able to support those that you enjoy following!

Thank you so much for the copy of this cookbook! I also have PCOS and fertility issues so I followed Tom and Rachael forever ago to get inspiration for my own meals. This cookbook is a great tool to have, not only for recipes, but for information I can share with people about how important this type of diet can be for endocrine levels. Side note: I loooooved the blurb in the beginning about them finding out Rachael was expecting the day they got their book deal. So so sweet.

Meals She Eats -Empowering Advice, Relatable Stories, and Over 25 Recipes to Take Control of Your PCOS by Tom Sullivan; Rachael Sullivan takes the reader through the symptoms and diagnosis of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) in a very approachable, easy to read and understand format that seems more like speaking to a friend than reading a book. The recipes are easy to follow with ingredients available in most grocery stores. (I reviewed an advance reader copy and all opinions are my own.) While grouped by cycle phase, these are healthy recipes that anyone would enjoy.

I didn’t know anything about the Sullivan’s before but I requested this book because I wanted to know more about their experience with PCOS and check out the recipes. The book is easy to follow and pretty clear. It talks about PCOS, menstrual cycle and the couple’s experience. The recipes are speared by menstrual cycle phases (Menstrual, Follicular, Ovulation and Luteal phase) and they seem easy to make and the photos are pretty nice. This book has more info about PCOS than recipes. Each phase has 6-7 recipes. I received a free digital copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review

This was SUPER awesome to read! I’ve been following Tom and Rachael on TikTok and have been super impressed with their journey.

I was pleased to get this ARC because I’ve also recently been diagnosed with PCOS and have been looking for resources.

What I loved the most about this book was the section they included about WHAT PCOS is and HOW it affects your body. That was super helpful. And the recipes look really delicious!

I’m so excited to be able to review this book, thanks for NetGalley!

I’ve been following the Sullivans on IG. As someone who also suffers fro PCOS this book is amazing. I absolutely love how they breakdown what PCOS is, what eating certain foods mean to your body, etc. But beyond all the history and science-y stuff with PCOS, which they do a wonderful job in explaining - their recipes are *chef’s kiss*. I ABSOLUTELY love their crab cakes recipe! There are a few more recipes that I’m wanting to try!!!

I think this is a very interesting concept. But it was marketed as a cookbook and while I see that it has recipes. There was a lot in it about the couple and PCOS. Which is neat! I do also have pcos and was interested in the melas but it felt very geared towards the infertility side and maybe not the other side effects. I think I will look at it again and try some of the recipes.

I have been following Tom and Rachael on TikTok for awhile now, and when I found out they were coming out with a cookbook I was super excited! After reading it, you can totally tell the time and dedication put into it, This is full of tasty recipes for any to enjoy, but mostly for those with PCOS. I followed the recipe to make blackened shrimp tacos, and it was easy to re-create and turned out delicious!

Thank you NetGalley and DK for this arc in exchange for my honest review!

I received a copy of this book through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I was vaguely familiar with the Sullivan's and was pleasantly surprised to see this book.

The book covers the history of the couple the polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) diagnosis, and their fertility journey. The book includes a lot of information about PCOS and what a healthy menstrual cycle looks like. There's a brief acknowledgement that food isn't a substitute for medication when needed, but the focus of this book is food.

The book talks about the different stages of the menstrual cycle with recommendations of what to eat during each cycle. There's a lot of recipes in this book with some nice pictures. There's some modifications to recipes to account for a reduction in sugar and other foods, but there's also a lot of meat and shellfish so the recipes in this book aren't for everyone.

It's a nice book with some helpful information and some nice recipes.

Finally someone did it! As an individual who has been diagnosed with PCOS, there is now a book that details everything straight forward. From breaking everything down to seeing doctors, asking questions, labs/testing, hormone education, comparison of a non cystic-menstrual cycle to one that deals with PCOS, talking about hormone therapy (birth control pros and cons), diet, movement/exercise, IT HAS IT ALL!
As a person who had studied and looked at journals on PCOS to find out scientific knowledge on PCOS (which a lot more work needs to be done), this couple brought their own journey and brought in the medically trained doctors and scientists, collaborated with them, and compiled all this knowledge together.
So, where are my hang ups? I would like to see more options on proteins sources versus red meat or vegan options being listed to diversify in the menus. As a person who deals with diverticular disease in addition, I have to limit red meat and seeing a lot of red meat in the meals can feel a bit defeating but nothing too serious.
Also, I would like them for have quoted more scientific journals on their sources, whether at the end of the book, or during their introduction section so it does not seem to come off as trial and error and “well, this worked for her, maybe you too!”. You can seriously tell both these individuals worked hard on this book with putting in knowledge in other sections… as a healthcare provider with this syndrome it would be great for that added bonus.
Gluten, soy, dairy free is very much promoted through this book and I would like to see more evidence or open discussion of choosing gluten or dairy lifestyle and how to adjust with PCOS before jumping on the bandwagon to avoid it all together because other hormone balancing cookbooks promote such products. Could this be a result from still needed research to be done and everyone is still figuring it out? Absolutely.

This book was a great leap in the right direction and is highly recommended to read along with Moon Cycle Cookbook (which takes more TCM approach).

Thank you for DK Publishing for the ARC!

This a book was so sweet! Seeing this couple all over tik tok and seeing their success is so beautiful. This book is packed with a ton of information on PCOS. The recipes are easy to follow and are super yummy. 10/10. Thank you for all your hard work!!

Thank you to the publisher and net galley for allowing me to read this early for my honest review.

Thank you Netgalley for the ARC to read and review.

PCOS is no laughing matter but these two make it manageable on a nutritional level...and not many men would do a deep dive into research for their wives and write a book as a result. (Anything in that area of a woman's body is generally avoided by men IMHO and experience especially if we are talking about a disease that can give a woman a beard!)

Great ideas and recipes here can easily help alleviate your syndrome and the foods will appeal to everyone in the family so you don't have to cook more than one meal for dinner as they are healthy and tasty.

...now I must check out their Instagram for sure!

I’ve followed Tom and Rachael on tiktok for ages now so I was very excited to get an ARC of Meals She Eats. I really liked how the book is set up — tons of good information on PCOS, menstrual cycles, and hormones up front with personal tidbits weaved throughout, all leading up to recipes. I’ve told a few friends that have PCOS about this one and we can’t wait to get a hardcopy when it’s available.

If you’ve seen this couple’s story, then you already know how amazingly sweet this husband was in supporting his wife while she was trying to support her body post-PCOS diagnosis. If not, don’t worry because they tell you about their story in the beginning of this book. Either way, you should definitely head over to instagram and follow them at meals she eats.

I absolutely LOVE how the recipes, exercise suggestions, and self-care tips were laid out by cycle phase. Literally my only complaint was that there weren’t “enough” recipes! And I use that lightly because there were quite a few for each cycle phase.

The information in this book was phenomenal. As a fertility/labor doula, childbirth educator, and apprentice midwife, I love finding good resources for my clients when it involves them sorting their bodies in the healthiest way possible. This is one I will definitely be recommending to my clients.

Thank you to NetGalley and DK for allowing me the pleasure to read and review this book!

lays out very clearly what pcos is and how to track symptoms, times of the cycle, and what you should be eating in that time to be the best and healthiest version of yourself without feeling like you're being talked down to or ignored
