Thank you to NetGalley for a copy of this ARC for an honest opinion.

If you like vampire novels, this book is definitely for you! Very typical tropes to be found in this book, and it was quite predictable. Very short and quick read. But nice little palate cleanser for those who need it. Would be interested in reading the rest of the books.

Vampire, intelligence scout, paranormal protector, and emotional liability…

I had not read the prequel Pathways to Bolingbrook, which I feel would have enhanced my reading experience. I would like to re read this book once I've read the prequel

This piece of writing, barely the size of a novella, is designed to be a teaser, and seems to be part of a full-sized novel, The Rift, which in turns seems to be part of a bigger literary enterprise, called The Bolingbroke Babbler.

We are introduced to Lydia, a paranormal scout and vigilante involved in protecting the small-town community Bolingbroke, in mid-West USA. It seems that the commute ity is now under a new threat from entities with a power agenda called the were deer. Lydia and her sidekick Aurora soon start to see some pretty heavy-duty action, and for those readers who enjoy enty of Batmam-style whamming and whacking gaming-style, this won't disappoint.

More crucially, what this book serves to do is introduce us to the character of Lydia, who already is depicted as a badass fighter. Lydia is a vampire, but a sympathetic vampire. It's already something of a trope, as her problem is she is empathetic, when the vampire state demands she operate more as a pure predator, rather than looking for love.

How will this quest pan out? - that is the question. A certain type of vampire fan should be enthralled by this then.

I could not put this down. It is a part of a series but can be read as a standalone. I loved the dynamic between Lydia and Aurora and will read the first and third books immediately.

I thought this sounded interesting even though I’m starting to tire a little bit with vampires. Not enough to stop, so there’s that. I didn’t realize that this was a novella between books that I hadn’t read, but that still wasn’t enough to stop me. I read this and could tell that there were things I wasn’t getting since I hadn’t read the first book. That’s OK, I expected that. I did really like Lydia and Aurora, but I probably would have liked them more if I had read the first one. Anyway, this is a good story, and I did get enough, that I’m interested in reading more of the series. 3 ½ stars rounded up. I was provided a complimentary copy which I voluntarily reviewed.

I couldn't put this book down once I started reading it. I have never read a book so fast before! It sucks you in from the very first sentence. I can't wait to read more books from this author.
