Bitterness and vengeance are hungry companions in this exceptionally powerful story of resistance and injustice.
The author transports one to the near future in an eerie and prophetic tale that is scalding relevant. Asfödel and Elysia are worlds away from Lena's home in Switzerland and her life is now fraught with danger as she pursues her forbidden love for Raphael, one of the Chosen, and celibate. It is impossible not to be moved by their courage as revolt causes a schism in the Cosmos.
The writing is stirring and heart-wrenching, painting a picture of a world so real one wants to reach out and touch it. Chilling and charged with atmosphere - a stunning fantasy.

This was a strong sequel in the Cathar Grail Quest Saga series, it had what I enjoyed from the first book. The characters felt like the same people and the same world. I enjoyed how good the plot was what I expected and it worked well. It felt like the same storyline and I'm glad I got to read this. It was a great sequel to Graëlfire and I enjoyed how Stephen Chamberlain wrote this.

"Oh, the hekkà. It’s just a vestige of our evolution. I’ve had mine removed.” She smiled. “Don’t look at me like that.
You know that little pink lump in the corner of your eye?” She pointed with her finger to the corner of her right eye
nearest her nose. Lena nodded. “It’s the remnant of a third eyelid your human ancestors once had.”
