I Want You to Own Me is an interesting novel, a sweet boys' love romance that's book-ended with some rather dark family drama, featuring both a heart-melting power-exchange dynamic and a heart-rending one. Personally, I think it works better because of the contrast, with the darker pitfalls of submission making us better appreciate the brighter heights of fated domination, but there's no question some scenes may be too much for some readers.

Since this is my first experience with Eve Healy, I just have to say something about her Dom/Sub universe. I absolutely adored the idea of a universe where people have primary and secondary genders, the first being masculine or feminine (which we're assigned at birth), and the second being dominant or submissive (which manifests on your 19th birthday). As someone who identifies as submissive first, and any gender/orientation second, this is absolutely wonderful! What makes it even more fun is how deeply biological those traits are, with Doms having almost magical powers of compulsion over Subs, and with subspace being something almost sacred.

Anyway, the story here is of Anthony, a young man whose family always assumed would be a Dom, but whose blood tests reveal is really a Sub. In the blink of an eye, his entire future is gone, his place in the family business erased, and his familial/social ties cut. He's thrown into a life of submission with only the bare minimum of training, and finds himself hating the life - at least until he's stolen away by a new Dom, one with whom he connects.

The darker power exchange still had appeal for me because, as much as it's cold and selfish, the way Anthony's body and mind react was exciting. The helpless intensity of those scenes spoke to me, and I wished he could find a way to enjoy it. The happier power exchange was softer, more subtle, lacking the overpowering domination that I found so exciting, but the romantic intimacy of it was lovely.

I thoroughly enjoyed I Want You to Own Me and am eagerly looking forward to more romances in the Dom/Sub universe.

Let's first take a look at the beautiful cover! that's the reason why I picked this book in the first place. Then the summary really intrigued me because it deals with BDSM, dom and sub.
Unfortunately, I felt like it was too short to have a story well built, the characters felt hollow and I didn't like the writing.

An easy read and appreciated the content warnings at the start alongside the recognition that the relationships portrayed in this story are not a representation of safe bdsm relationships.

Reading the blurb of the book made me think how absurd it sounded and how I absolutely needed to get my hands on it. The fact that the cover is absolutely cute and reminded me of the mangas that I used to read when I was younger sealed the deal. But as soon as I picked it up, I was wary of whether I might have made a bad decision, because the content warning put me off and I wished I had checked the author's website to see whether she shared the cw there as well and wondered if I should've paid more attention beforehand.
But since I've already had the book, I started it anyway, because if things got unbearable for me I could've dropped it at any time throughout my reading journey. And I'm not going to lie, the first 30% made me uncomfortable, because I'm not a fan of dubcon or generally unsafe sex (practice). I also started worrying whether I got the blurb completely wrong and if Anthony's relationship with his Dom was actually all I could hope for in the the book. But the thought was unbearable considering how violating the relationship between them felt. And the feeling that Anthony didn't seem to have any kind of support system and was lowkey isolated from everyone was awful to read about. But then Noah appeared and without doing all that much he brought a completely different feeling to the book. Anthony's situation suddenly didn't seem to hopeless and the all around tone of the book became lighter too. These twos relationship and chemistry was comfortable and it was amazing to see how much a difference there was between the different types of partners Anthony had in such a short time of his life. Of course happiness can't last, but I was glad to see that things wrapped up nicely and that, as expected from a romance book, the ending was happy.

All in all it was a fun and easy read with just enough depth, given the length of the book. Although I would've loved a bit more relationship build up, I wasn't all to bothered by the lack of it and have to say that I also enjoed the obvious character growth of the main character. That said, I do encourage picking up this book if you're not in the mood to read something all too heavy, and if the content warning doesn't scare you off, because you will get what you're promised.

While fairly well written (the style is pleasant), I might have read the blurb wrong and thought this book was more slow burn romance than erotica. Without giving too much away, I think it's better to warn people about the contents, and that the first third of the story is very much non-con (the dom/sub makes everything slightly dubious in my opinion). Perhaps a tad too graphic for my taste, I'm afraid. It reminded me of some Omegaverse webtoons, with probably a little less plot. If you're into smutty stuff, this is probably more for you than it was for me.

Well that was definitely hot, I typically am not into erotica but this one is actually really good and I will keep my eye out for everything else written by them.

So I was initially drawn by the cover and only slightly interested in the story. Well it has a nice little plot though if you didn't know you were getting bondage erotica it may be a little intense. The characters were charming and the Dom/sub culture interesting. It almost reads like one of those CEO and secretary romance novels or anime. The sex scenes were detailed enough without being cheesey and they were evenly based throughout the short story. Overall it's a good read for a distraction.
