Okay, this was not an easy read. But I read it in one sitting and I loved it for what it was - a dark mafia romance, with all its forced marriage into a bratva chills, suspense and spice.

I've read a few of them lately but I feel like this was one of the better ones. The slow burn, dangerous world and opposite attract were really well done and believable. No insta-love, mousey all accepting heroine either. They both peeled away their layers little by little and then exploded together. Then the dark world they lived in reared ita ugly head and it was brutal and heartbreaking. I liked how we got a glimpse of that brutal end in the prologue, it kept me guessing throughout the story how they got there. How they got from enemies and strangers in a forced marriage neither of them wanted, to lovers to 'I will die for you'.

So if you like dark romance, I'd totally recommend this story! I'm actually intrigued to read the other 2 in the series, especially the next one, after the teaser at the end. I love Sam's writing! There is no beating around the bush about the scary world or morally grey alpha hero, but she also gives us multi-layered characters, deep emotions and a love story to root for!

A big thank you to NetGalley and Evernight Publishing for the eARC. I am voluntarily reviewing this book. This is part of a series. This is pretty intense and suspenseful for a romance. I think it could be triggering. 3.5

The story seemed so familiar but was still quite good. The story is a fast-paced and sizzling romance. Good characters.

This book hits so many tropes that I love. Arranged mafia marriage, second choice sister (without making it icky) and even a grandfatherly figure masterfully arranging love matches for the people in his life. I loved Adelaide she was this kind and innocent women in her terrible family but she didn't feel too "practically perfect in everyway"

I very much enjoyed this book .Adelaide is a dissapontment to her parents they favour there other daughter Bethany who is vile and a cruel person and Bethany has been chosen to marry Andrei but then every thing changes Adelaide is to marry him. he is part of Volkov Bratva. Adelaide is so gentle and a kind person. but Andrei is sort of cruel to her but then he sees the person that she is and he has a little secret but someone wants her dead I so recommend this authors books will it be a happy ending

I liked the plot, the writing style and the characters. It's rare that I like both main characters from the start, but Andrei and Adelaide are an exception. Both are exposed to a situation from which they cannot escape. But in the end it was exactly what they both needed. I liked that Adelaide takes the severity out of Andrei's life. For him it is a good balance to the constant violence. And he gets something of his own worth fighting for.

Ivan Volkov is a very interesting character. Frighteningly efficient and creative when it comes to asserting one's interests. His other brigadiers will have to be on their guard in the future as well; especially if he plans to continue his dynasty. Duty, honor, obedience. I'm excited to see how that plays out in the next book.

Adelaide was never supposed to marry Andrei Belov, he was meant to marry her awful sister , or was he ?

This is the story of Adelaide, our virgin hero and her mafia husband Andrei.
I really enjoyed both the main and the secondary characters, Sam if you see this , please i need more information on Ivan (an older age couple mafia book maybe).... . I had a great time with this book !

I found this to be a good book. Andre is forced to marry Adelaide who is already having poor self-esteem from her parents and from her older sister. She thought he was supposed to marry her that is the older sister but there was a change so now she marries Andre. Though through most of the book she is fighting with herself and with him as well. You do get to see the change in both characters. You also have a lot of action going on as someone is trying to kill her and then him as well. This is really a good book and a quick read. Good characters.

Andrei has one boss and when he tells you to get married...you get married. Adelaide is the unwanted child but when her sister screws up she gains a husband in her place. Now can she move past her fears and see the man she married?
A Sense of Duty is second in Sam Crescent'sVolkov Bratva series. I enjoyed getting to know Andrei better. We got a glimpse of him and now Ms. Crescent allows us to see the man behind the legend. Adelaide had to grow on me. She had a backbone but it took a bit for her to find it. She has very little self esteem and she is constantly fighting to believe in herself and Andrei. But once she accepts not only her lot in life but the man she married Adelaide blossoms.
I enjoyed seeing Andrei and Adelaide learn to trust in each other and am looking forward to where Ms. Crescent will take us next.

Adelaide never thought she would be forced to marry but here she was married to a bratva general. Both her and her new husband have to navigate their new relationship and life while still worrying about the challenges that comes with being part of this bratva world. This book has ups, downs and twist and turns. Keeps you motivated to keep reading and to find out not only where their relationship goes but also what is going to happen next.

I really enjoyed this book and its cast of characters. It was moderately paced and not dragged out like some other books. Also the spice level of this book is pretty high, which I was happy about.

Trigger warnings: violence, mention of child abuse, loss of baby

Ohhh wow! Loved loved loved! When Adelaide is forced to take her sisters place in marriage to Andrei, she’s terrified! Her sister informed of Andries love for blood. He’s a member of the Bartva. Lots of action and suspense .

I received a complimentary copy of this book from NetGalley. The opinions expressed in this review are completely my own

I’m a big fan of this authors MC books so when I spotted this mafia story I wanted to see her spin on this trope. She did not disappoint. I loved the hero and how he’s only gentle with the heroine. Plenty of action, some angst and a great cast of supporting characters. I’m definitely going to read book one & hoping there’s a book for the boss coming soon. Definitely recommend.

Well hot damn! This was dark but then not…. It was super sexy hot with a great storyline, well written characters and I ate up the pages! I absolutely loved it, it hints a darker but doesn’t fully go there, which is absolutely perfect for me. Honestly I am wowed by every book I read by SC and I look forward to the next book in this series.

A Sense of Duty by Sam Crescent is the Second book in the Volkov Bratva Series. This is the story of Adelaide and Andrei. Andrei who is a Russian Bratva around 40 years old has been informed he is to marry by Ivan Volkov who is the head of the Volkov Bratva. Andrei was to marry Bethany but she lost favor and they turned to her sister Adelaide to marry him. Which starts their story. I really enjoyed this book and I hope to read more from this author.

A mafia arranged marriage…

With a twist! I didn’t realize this was the second in the series but I quickly came up to speed on the Volkov organization hierarchy. Alexei and Adelaide were forced together, neither had a choice in the matter. Their relationship was based on everything but love and caring so little wonder that their interactions were anything but warm, shall I understatedly say.

Given Adelaide’s circumstances, I wanted so much more for her. She deserved a lot more from the people she called family whether parents, sister and now her new husband. Alexei was cold and unbending, dark and violent – unsurprising given his vocation. She could have folded but instead she chose to not give in, instead pushing for more. The fractures began and once started, they didn’t stop. She fought and, just being herself, had Alexei seeing her and wanting more as well.

A satisfying ending has me looking for the first in the series…

3.75 stars—A SENSE OF DUTY is the second instalment in Sam Crescent’s contemporary, adult VOLKOV BRATVA dark, erotic, Bratva romance series. This is forty year old, Bratva Brigadier Andrei Belov, and twenty-one year old Adelaide’s story line. A SENSE OF DUTY can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story line is revealed where necessary.

NOTE: Due to the nature of the story line premise, there may be triggers for more sensitive readers.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Adelaide and Andrei) A SENSE OF DUTY follows in the aftermath of the arranged marriage between forty year old, Bratva Brigadier Andrei Belov, and twenty-one year old Adelaide. Ivan Volkov is the head of the Volkov Bratva, and as such has arranged a marriage between his Brigadier Andrei Belov, and Adelaide’s sister Bethany but Bethany has angered the man in charge, and Andrei finds himself facing a woman who knows nothing about the life of which she is about to enter. Adelaide is an innocent, unaware of the nuances of Bratva life, and believes she is nothing more than a pawn in a bigger game for the Bratva alliances. From the outset Andrei Belov struggles with what to do with his new wife, a struggle that forces Andrei to push away the woman with whom he will fall in love but someone is targeting our story line couple, and with Andrei’s territory at risk, the safety of his young wife, and his need for control, threaten everything that has ever mattered. What ensues is the building but acrimonious relationship between Andrei and Adelaide, and the potential fall-out as Adelaide must face down an enemy she knows all too well.

The relationship between Adelaide and Andrei is an age gap, arranged marriage between a powerful member of the Volkov Bratva, and an innocent woman with issues of low self esteem, and a family who has turned their backs on their youngest daughter. Adelaide is the black sheep of the family, and as such as been sold to the Bratva to save someone else. Andrei’s attraction to Adelaide is hidden behind a mask of indifference and power but Andrei’s control is about to snap when the threat against Adelaide comes from a familiar place. The $ex scenes are intimate, erotic, and provocative.

There is a large ensemble cast of interesting secondary and supporting characters. We are introduced to Andrei’s driver and security Leo; Adelaide’s friend Nathan, her sister Bethany, Volkov Pakhan Ivan Volkov; casino worker Anna; MC member Rage, and his ‘daughter’ Lottie, Oleg Pavlov, and the return of Aurora and Slavik Ivanov. The requisite evil has many faces.

A SENSE OF DUTY is a story of power and control, betrayal and vengeance, fractured family dynamics, acceptance and love. The premise is dark, gritty and heart breaking; the romance is provocative but struggles in the face of issues of trust; the characters are broken, charismatic and tenacious.
