Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.

I was diagnosed with breast cancer this spring and thought reading a book with positive messages and happy stories might be just what I needed. However, I found the writing in this book uneven and in need of editing, and the cadence of longer profiles mixed with poems and other shorter pieces distracting.

I do not recommend Rebels of Kindness. The content is admirable, but the format misses the target.

I wanted to love this book, but I just couldn’t get into it. The premise of radical kindness is so important in our current society, and I love that they had so many individuals portrayed who exemplifies different aspects of kindness and connectedness.

However, I found myself wanting as I read. I wanted more context, like quotes from an actual interview of the featured person by the authors. I couldn’t tell if stories and practices had been cherry-picked because there was so little background context (meaning what type of research had gone into the segment). I didn’t love the writing style, particularly when the authors casually inserted personal opinion on politics etc.

I thought the suggestions for practicing kindness or mindfulness were interesting.

I loved the stories in this compilation but the format for reading on my tablet made it difficult to read.

The stories were endearing and inspirational. I hope the print copy or final digital copy is easier to manipulate to read. I was using an iPad and struggled to make the print larger.

I applaud the authors for their dedication to the subject. Wish I could have been more comfortable reading it.

"Rebels of Kindness" by Alleman and Wilkenfeld is an inspiring and uplifting book that challenges readers to embrace the power of kindness and make a positive impact in the world. With its blend of personal stories, practical tips, and thought-provoking insights, this book serves as a guide for cultivating a kinder and more compassionate society.

One of the book's notable strengths is its ability to highlight the importance of small acts of kindness. Alleman and Wilkenfeld illustrate how seemingly simple gestures can have far-reaching effects, demonstrating that kindness is not only a personal virtue but a force that can transform communities and create lasting change. The authors offer compelling examples and anecdotes that inspire readers to reevaluate their own actions and consider how they can contribute to a kinder world.

The book's practical tips and suggestions are another standout feature. Alleman and Wilkenfeld provide readers with actionable steps they can take to incorporate kindness into their daily lives. These practical suggestions make the book accessible and relevant to readers of all ages and backgrounds.

Moreover, "Rebels of Kindness" emphasizes the ripple effect of kindness and how it can create a chain reaction of positivity. The authors encourage readers to not only practice kindness themselves but also inspire others to do the same. This focus on collective action and community engagement adds depth to the book's message and reinforces the idea that kindness has the power to unite and uplift.

However, some readers may find that certain topics are covered in a cursory manner, leaving them wanting more depth and exploration. Additionally, while the book highlights the transformative power of kindness, it could benefit from further addressing the challenges and complexities of implementing kindness in various social contexts.

In conclusion, "Rebels of Kindness" is a timely and encouraging book that reminds us of the transformative potential of kindness in our lives and in the world at large. Alleman and Wilkenfeld's passion for the subject shines through, inspiring readers to embrace kindness as a rebellious act of compassion and empathy. This is definitely a book that should be on the curriculum, I would say it should be on every bookshelf but these days everyone is so self centric that they would not take the time to read and consider it. I would love to see this book be a great success and prove me wrong about today's society.

Rebels of Kindnesss strives to move us from a "me-and-mine" mindset model to one which seeks to serve others and our planet; a win-win for everyone. How can you NOT be for kindness?

Each rebel story shows how much difference one person can make when they focus on what they want more of in the world. Thought-provoking.

My thanks to Kindhumans for allowing me to access a DRC via NetGalley. The book is scheduled to be published 6/20/23. All opinions expressed in this review are my own and are given freely.
