"The Chocolate Chip Cookie Book: Classic, Creative, and Must-Try Recipes for Every Kitchen" by Katie Jacobs is a delightful journey through the world of one of America's most cherished desserts. This book is not just a collection of recipes; it's a homage to the chocolate chip cookie, presented with such passion and creativity that it's bound to inspire both novice bakers and seasoned cookie connoisseurs alike.
Jacobs' book is a treasure trove of 100 recipes that span from the traditional to the unexpected. The classic chocolate chip cookie recipe that started it all is there, of course, but so are inventive variations like cookie dough milkshakes and chocolate chip cheesecake. Each recipe is more than just a set of instructions; it's an invitation to explore the nuances of flavor and texture that can be achieved with the humble chocolate chip.
The book is beautifully detailed, with photographs that are both mouthwatering and instructive. Jacobs' expertise shines through in her tips and tricks, which are sprinkled throughout the book like chocolate chips in dough. Whether you're looking to create a cozy treat for self-care, a celebration dessert for loved ones, or the perfect gift for any occasion, this book has something for everyone.
What sets this book apart is its approachability. Jacobs writes with a friendly tone that encourages experimentation. With its perfect blend of classic and creative, this book earns a well-deserved spot on every kitchen shelf.
Rating: 🍪🍪🍪🍪🍪 (5/5 Cookies)

I enjoyed reading it as much as baking some of the recipes. The author included mouth-
watering pictures and helpful hints to inspire and assist a home baker in producing a better batch of
cookies. Each of the basic chocolate chip cookie recipes was broken down, described in detail, and
explained. A great feature is the difficulty rating scale for each recipe, as well as the icons of equipment
recommended. The author included a wonderful visual breakdown of how the cookies will appear if the
temperature, sugar, or butter levels are altered. In addition to cookies, bars, specialty treats, cakes, and
“healthyish” recipes are included. If you are a chocolate chip cookie fan, you won’t be disappointed with
this book.
My toddler is cookie obsessed so this book was so fun to use over the holidays, especially when it was rainy outside. The whole family loved it.
Do you love chocolate chip cookies? Who doesn’t, right? I promise that you will absolutely love The Chocolate Chip Cookie Book. It is filled with mouth-watering and delicious recipes plus extremely delicious eye candy, as in photos of all the delectable treats, that will leave you salivating. And if that’s not enough, you will learn that there is a multitude of yummy goodies that you can make with chocolate chips.
The book begins with a discussion of kitchen tips and tricks followed by tools and equipment. Katie Jacobs then reveals a fact, which not many of us realize - that baking is actually a science and demonstrates in revealing photos how different amounts and/or ingredients affects the finished product. I found this section absolutely fascinating and believe it is applicable to all sorts of baking. And if you are already an accomplished baker, you will undoubtedly learn a new tip or trick from Jacobs.
The 100 recipes are divided into five sections - (1) The Classics-24 of these recipes in this section, (2) Specialty Cookies and Bars-23, (3) Cakes, Pies and Giant cookies-17, (4) The Fun Stuff-18+6=24, and (5) Healthy(ish) Treats -12. Furthermore, recipes include gluten-free, vegan, paleo, etc to meet any dietary needs.
Some very useful things I learned was how much to adjust the temperature or time if using a convection oven, how to use a cookie cutter after the cookies come out of the oven to straighten the edges, the difference between light and dark brown sugar, and the effect on the cookies if you use butter that is melted, creamed or cold. The best part of this book, that I believe you will not find anywhere else, is what happens to the cookies if you add too much of an ingredient or not enough. For example, extra egg whites leads to taller cookies whereas extra yolks results in fudgier cookies. Jacobs explains the different results for warmer vs. cooler dough, higher vs. lower temperature, granulated vs. brown sugar, baking soda vs. powder, less vs. more flour, etc.
Some of my favorite recipes from The Chocolate Chip Cookie Book are chocolate chip cookie layer cake, county fair chocolate chip cookies, chocolate chip cookie shortbread, and chocolate chip cookie waffles. There are still many recipes that I haven’t tried yet but plan to do so. If you are not interested in baking, you should buy this book anyway for the delicious looking photos. But be warned, I think I might have gained weight just looking at all the pictures! I highly recommend this book for any baker because it explains how changes to a recipe will affect your outcome.
I received a free digital copy of The Chocolate Chip Cookie Book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. I loved this cookbook so much that I plan to buy the hardcover edition! I made the first recipe in the cookbook and the cookies were delicious! I can't wait to try all of the recipes in this fun and creative cookbook!! If you are a chocolate chip cookie lover, I highly recommend!
This is a great guide to obtaining chocolate chip cookies under whatever you prefer. It details classic chocolate chip recipes, other more creative cookie recipes, and other recipes that use chocolate chip cookies as a base. Ranging from layer cakes, cheesecakes and more, this is not your boring regular chocolate chip cookie. It's an entertaining, detailed guide to making beautiful and delicious chocolate chip cookie-based recipes.
This book was everything I wanted it to be! Helpful in instruction, fun in variety, and totally appropriate for any level of cookie baker! A complete joy!
This book took me a long time to review it because by the time I picked it up to try the recipes I was not able to eat most of the ingredients. Now that I’m allowed to indulge once in a while., I’m practicing few of the recipes. I’ll try to write updates from time to time. I also I’m trying to use healthy substitutes after I try the original one. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t but at least I document every change I make.
Wow don’t go into this book thinking this is JUST a chocolate chip cookie book. This is an incredible dessert cookbook that just happens to MOSTLY have chocolate chips in them.
I love that the author really goes into how different things will change the recipe (I.e. more flour vs less flour & melted butter vs room temp vs browned). You can tell the author put a lot of time into this book.
Also it’s not just cookies. There’s bars and pies. Also vegan recipes!

I live with two cookie monsters, so when I came across The Chocolate Chip Cookie Book; challenge was accepted.
I'm pretty impressed with this book. The layout flows well. The recipes were easy and straightforward to follow. I love all the delicious illustrations. They're so gorgeous they motivated me to arrange a family cookie baking day. We had a lot of fun.
My children are teens and they liked the "cookie science" section at the beginning of the book. It shows what happens if you increase, decrease or omit ingredients. This section includes photos to refer to.
We enjoyed family time and trying several recipes. Every recipe we made turned out yummy. My family's favorite was the Inside Out cookies. 10/10 would recommend it! We loved it so much we ordered a copy for ourselves. I definitely learned a few tricks to up my cookie game.
Thank you, NetGalley and Harper Celebrate, for an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

🍪This book gives tons of tips and tricks for baking the perfect chocolate chip cookie. I was surprised by how many different ways you can make chocolate chip cookies! Each recipe is given a difficulty level so bakers of different levels can feel comfortable with the recipe they choose. There are recipes for Gluten-free, Vegan, Paleo, and dairy-free cookies. My favorite are the recipes to bake a single cookie in a toaster oven, air fryer, or mug in the microwave. Yumm!
This book would make a great Christmas or Birthday gift for the cookie baker in your life!
Thank you @netgalley @harpercelebratebooks for the ARC in exchange for my honest review!
A lovely book filled with the most gorgeous images! I loved reading the recipes because there was something for everyone--the skilled baker to the brand new novice who barely knows a tablespoon from a teaspoon. The background science that the author provides (i.e. how a cookie can look different from the same recipe) was informative yet interesting. A great addition to any cookbook collection!
I really enjoyed this book! The recipes seem simple and easy to follow. Sometimes the pictures in recipes books can intimidate me into trying new things but with the great instructions I felt great trying them. Highly recommend this cookbook!
The Chocolate Chip Cookie Book showcases the cookie in its best light. There are great photographs to accompany the recipes, along with helpful hints and tips for success. The introduction goes through such topics as tricks, tools, techniques, and has a helpful grid on how ingredients and techniques can affect the cookies. The recipes are divided into logical sections, which I have listed below with some of the standouts.
The Classics: Classic Chocolate Chip Cookies; Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Cookies; Bake Sale Chocolate Chip Cookies
Specialty Cookies and Bars: Bananas Foster Chocolate Chip
Cakes, Pies, and Giant Cookies: Chocolate Chip Cookie Layer Cake; Frozen Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Cheesecake
The Fun Stuff: Chocolate Chip Cookie Cereal; Chocolate Chip Tiramisu
Healthy (ish) Treats: Vegan Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Blizzard; Gluten-Free Chocolate Chip Cookies with Almond Flour; Tahini Chocolate Chip Cookies
As an accomplished home baker, this cookbook really excites me. There are some classic recipes, but a lot of recipes with different twists. I love the creativity and look forward to making many of these delicious desserts.
Disclaimer: I was given an Advanced Reader's Copy by NetGalley and the publisher. The decision to read and review this cookbook was entirely my own.
This is the quintessential collection of chocolate chip cookie recipes! From basic cookies best served with a cold glass of milk, to sophisticated cookie flavor profiles, there's a recipe in this book for every taste and occasion. Cookies, bars, cakes, pies, cheesecakes. Candies, desserts - there's even attempts at more healthy options. With gorgeous photographs and easy to follow recipes, this is a must have cookbook for the chocolate chip cookie lover! The also author includes comparisons of different methods (cold butter vs. melted butter; refrigerated vs. frozen dough; etc.) which I really appreciated. Some of my favorites: Chocolate Chip Shortbread, Lemon and White Chocolate Chip Cookies, Chocolate Chip Cookie Lava Cakes, Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Cookie Pie, and, of course, the Classic Chocolate Chip Cookie.
Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for an advance copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
When I first saw this book I thought - How can you make an entire book with one type of cookie? But this book had so much information in it and tons of cookie options. I personally loved all the lessons with techniques. I like to cook and bake but I only know what I've learned on cooking shows and sometimes when I make them I don't exactly know why something came out a little runny or a little darker and this book teaches you how the different ingredients can affect the final product of what you are making. If you want to strengthen you baking knowledge I highly recommend this book. Bonus - You get great recipes while trying out all the things you learned!
Drawn in by the title, drooling while reading the recipes and thrilled with the addition of non cookie recipes.
Ice cream, fudge, cakes and pies!
And did I mention the photos? This is the must Christmas gift for those who love to bake.
Many thanks to Netgalley and Harper Celebrate for sharing Katie Jacob's chocolate chip cookies with us - yums!
The Chocolate Chip Cookie Book is a well curated collection of recipes and tutorials for everything chocolate chip, collected and developed by Katie Jacobs. Released 3rd Oct 2023 by HarperCollins on their Celebrate imprint, it's 240 pages and is available in hardcover and ebook formats.
This book really is an encyclopedic collection of all-things-chocolate-chip. There are cookies which are familiar and beloved of everyone - so it gets an A+ on completeness and inclusion. There are classics both easy and challenging for all occasions
The recipes are grouped roughly thematically: classic recipes, specialty cookies & bars, cakes pies & giant cookies, and fun chocolate chip "allied" items like waffles, fudge and truffles. Each recipe includes an introduction, yields, description, equipment, ingredients listed bullet-style in a sidebar, and step by step specific directions which are clear and easy to follow. Unit measures are in imperial (American) only. Alternatives and special info is included in highlighted in text bars in each recipe.
Most of the ingredients will be available at any well stocked grocery store; there may be some items which will require a specialty supplier or online source (vanilla paste and a few other items, but not many). The author/publisher have also included groupings of recipes in an index by difficulty as well as suggested pairings with seasonally appropriate choices.
Five stars. The photography is superb. This is a classic and comprehensive collection and will be a perennial go-to. This would be a great choice for public or school library acquisition, home use, or gifting to a foodie enthusiast friend.
Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes.
This recipe book is everything! I LOVE chocolate chip cookies (who doesn't) and this recipe book makes an excellent addition to my collection! There is a recipe for everyone and then some. I love how she breaks down some essential baking knowledge in the beginning. I knew that cold versus room temperature versus melted made a difference, I just didn't realize what the difference was. I love how it was all laid out and explained. So far I have made several of the recipes and they do not disappoint! This a must have for every kitchen!
