Empowering, inspiring, and full of light, GIVE YOURSELF BY PERMISSION by Cortney McDermott was everything I'd hoped for with its beautiful cover and description. Simply, I was grabbed from the first few sentences, intrigued and then curious about how life transforms when you give up the ideas of who you have to be and have been and release yourself into your innate powerful, beautiful, light-hearted self. Sounds a bit woo woo, but it's not. It's reality through a different lens -- and given the results I am already experiencing through asking the questions McDermott poses through out -- going from "I can't" to "How Can I....." with a big smile on my face. Perhaps this book is not for everyone, but it sure was a delight for me. I received a copy of this book and these opinions are my own, unbiased thoughts.

If you’re new to the self-help world then this book might be worth a read. But if you’ve already read a couple of books within this genre then this book will add nothing to your existing knowledge. For me personally, it was a waste of time.

I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

The best book is when it feels as if you are talking to a friend and Give Yourself Permission by Cortney McDermott is definitely this book.

I've read quite a few books which would be considered personal development, self help, how to get yourself motivated...however you want to categorize it. Cortney's book thankfully gives tools to help you get to the place you strive to be. She is an amazing motivator and writer where it feels as if she is talking directly to you and giving you encouragement to give yourself permission and stop holding yourself back.

I highly recommend this book for anyone who needs motivation and tools to help you get past your excuses to succeed.

Thank you to NetGalley and Cortney McDermott for the ARC.

As someone who made a smaller reading goal to read 10 non-fiction books this year that promote self growth, this is a great self-help book for anyone who needs a little confidence boost. The book is written as if they author is speaking directly to you as a friend rather than some stuffy doctor who could care less. I really enjoyed how personal it felt while showing you how to be more confident through affirmations and why you should embrace exactly who you are.

This book asks you to reevaluate what you know and to look inward for the answers that you may seek. This book places a strong emphasis that we already possess everything we need to transform and fulfill our life.
McDermott stresses to avoid external stimuli & stuff as they can hinder our progress but challenges the reader to harness internal strength to create meaningful change in our lives.
The book offers practical tools and techniques to begin this work. As a reader you are asked to
tap into your inner power to do this work- I wish there were a few more exercises to begin this work especially since this is my first book by the author! I will however do more work by downloading the author’s first book to see if there is more on this personal journey. Overall a great book to reshift priorities and tap into the things that truly matter! While this book was free to me this is definitely something I would have purchased for personal growth and development.

Great cover, informative content. This is a book about how we often hold ourselves back from living our best lives because we're afraid of failure, rejection, or judgment. But the author offers that these fears are largely unfounded, and that we can overcome them by giving ourselves permission to take risks and step outside of our comfort zones.

I just read the intro and decided its not for me. It's one thing to be over the top motivational book, and its another reading this paragraph in the first page: "Overnight in one instance, I shed considerable weight and my body was visibly toned in ways it had never been before. Another time, I was transported out of perceived space-time constraints and merged with a seemingly limitless Intelligence. At one point, I could literally feel the cells of my body and mind reorganizing into a new pattern of consciousness." I know that sometimes we have our epiphany moments and feel suddenly in control and grow in wisdom, but to lose weight overnight! to merge with limitless intelligence! Even me as a christian that believe in miracles have a hard time swallowing that. I guess do what work for you to be better, the goal is to be better and more in peace with yourself, but if by doing so you feel you tapped into some DC-Marvel supernatural believing system I don't think its the right path for you. You might be enjoying the path but the destination might not be all bright.

But what do I know. You do you.

p.s. I didn't finish the book so I won't leave a rating yet. Maybe someday in the future I'll try and finish reading it.
p.p.s. I can't publish my "review" on NetGalley if I don't give a star rating. I won't give it a low rating, but it doesn't reflect how I actually view this book.

The captivating cover and intriguing title of this book immediately caught my attention, drawing me in with curiosity. To my delight, I discovered that the content within was refreshingly relatable, surpassing my expectations. What set this book apart was its inclusion of valuable information and practical tips that I hadn't encountered before in this genre. It offered a unique perspective, making it stand out from the rest and leaving me pleasantly surprised throughout my reading journey.

In her compelling book, McDermott centers on a powerful theme: the notion that we already possess everything essential for personal transformation and fulfillment. Rather than endlessly pursuing external achievements, she challenges us to turn our focus inward, unveiling the immense potential that lies within. By tapping into our innate power, McDermott explains how we can effect meaningful change in our lives.

The book serves as a practical guide, equipping readers with valuable tools and techniques for embarking on this inner journey. McDermott delves into the nature of thoughts, providing insightful strategies to break free from negative thought patterns that often hinder our growth. She emphasizes the significance of shifting our mental state and offers effective methods to swiftly achieve such shifts. Moreover, McDermott introduces lesser-known forms of "meditation," enabling us to cultivate inner peace and clarity in unique and accessible ways.

A notable strength of this book is its relatability and accessibility. Drawing from her experience in coaching executives at prestigious organizations, McDermott showcases her expertise in guiding personal transformations. Yet, she effortlessly connects with readers on a personal level by sharing anecdotes and insights that resonate with people from all walks of life. This relatable approach, combined with an engaging and inspiring writing style, keeps the reader captivated throughout the transformative journey.

I can’t wait to reference this book and continue using the tools and tricks and tips provided by the author. I feel like since attending therapy, my mind is more open to some of these types of practices. However, there may be difficulty with some of these concepts for someone who isn’t as adept or experienced with these things. Overall, I would recommend this to my friends with similar life backgrounds and experiences as myself.
