This past year I've been really obsessed with ice skating novels (I blame From Lukov with love entirely) so I'm always on the lookout for books that deal with it.

I was going in with no expectations with this story and I think that's why I really liked it. It is a 200 page novel that reads in a heartbeat and has very tender scenes. It is entertaining, but I have to say that the pace slows down as the story progresses and that bothered me a bit. I really liked that the romance is as it is, the girl is not afraid or insecure and, although there is drama later, you know perfectly well how it ends and that my anxiety appreciated it.

This novel tells us how the main characters meet and I adored Coco. She is a professional skater who is fighting for her dream and her place is at a roller rink. We see how complicated her life is and how she strives to get what she wants. Logan is famous, but he doesn't let that get to him. Plus we may have the single dad trope very well worked out (I don't usually like it, but in this novel omg).

All in all, The cutting edge is an entertaining novel that for an afternoon by the pool is enjoyable, but I wasn't obsessed with it. It reads very fast and has a few little things that well, but overall I liked it and if you like romance and the initial fooling around of a relationship, you might like this novel.

I requested this one because I am fully in my hockey era at the moment, however, it just fell really short for me. The premise of the story was great, but the execution of it really wasn't. I am sorry to say that I skimmed quite a lot of it, particularly as I got bored of the hospital setting and nothing really happening.

To be honest I have no clue what to say about this book.
On one hand I absolutely adored the Characters and the storyline, it was very loveable.
But... on the other hand it was just disappointing. About 50 % of the book was spend in the hospital which just sucks because there could have been so much more.
It has really good potential don't get me wrong but it was just too slow and not interesting and engaging for me.

I really hope the second book turns out the way I hope because I definetly love the characters Lana and Cam. ♡

Huge thanks to Netgalley and the Author for giving me an opportunity to read this book!

Who doesn't love a good hockey romance? It was a fun and flirty read. I liked the chemistry between Logan and Coco. Poppy is a adorable six year old and I loved the father and daughter dynamic between them.
However, I wasn't the biggest fan of the pacing. I wish we had more figure skating content because most of Coco's story was set place at the hospital. A hockey and figure skating romance is my catnip..so I wanted more. I wasn't the biggest fan of the third act break up. It was rushed.

Thank you netgalley and the publisher for this arc in exchange for my honest review.

Well, I hate dnf-ing books so I read it to the end, however there was only disappointment.

The insta-loves as cute as it might seem in the first few pages is just so rushed and fast it is not believable and comes across a bit ridiculous.

The book seems to be like a puzzle out of few drafted scenes the author had in mind, without any further or deeper thought.

I read the exact same paragraph on back-to-back pages, verified it was not an uncorrected proof, and immediately deleted the download.

A cute hockey romcom that needed just a little bit more substance. I like the characters, and I like the plot ideas, but it needed to be flushed out just a little bit more. If you're looking for an easy, fast read - then this is a good one to pick up. There's not a whole lot of conflict, nor a whole lot of character development, but it was still a fun read.

I am giving this book 3.5 stars. I really like the idea, and the all over foundation of the story, but It all seemed a little superficial. The romance part happened very quickly, there wasn't much of the fallout we usually see with real deep feelings and life reflections. The emotions of the characters was just lacking for me. I love the sport romance parts, but I wish we would've gotten a little more smut in it. The one times just left me feeling unsatisfied with it. There were quite a few grammatical errors, but I didn't focus on those because I am hoping it's just because this is an ARC and hasn't gone through the final editing phases. The characters also didn't give me much. We don't really learn much about them until something comes up and we get a brief mention of past traumas and relationships, but we don't really dive into them and who they are and why. We don't meet any family, and we barely get the close friends of either MC. Over all, I just wanted more, but the foundation of this story has so much possibility to be great.

2.75 ⭐️ Good story, not so great execution.

This book is not so much a sport romance, as it is a romance book that happens to have two professional athletes as its MCs. There aren't really any description of hockey games or iceskating, and I wish there was. Also, the name of the fmc was so distracting to me for some reason. The blurb in Goodreads says it's Bella, but the fmc's name is Coco and I just couldn't take it seriously (but I know that's just a me thing).

Coco is a olympic figure skater trying to earn enough teaching children to pay for all the training expenses and make her way to the olympics again -and hopefully get the gold metal this time around. One of her students, Poppy, is the most adorable little girl with he hottest dad ever. One day, when Poppy's dad is 45 mins late to pick her up, she decides to go find him within the facility, since he works in the same stadium. Inadvertently, Coco and Poppy enter a restricted zone and a puck comes flying out directly at them and knocks Coco out. Coco wakes up in the hospital with a massive headache and superhot hockey player Logan Rivers by her side.

The book's premise was good. The whole single father thing is great, the fact that they're two professional athletes finding a kinship with each other when it comes to the sacrifices of staying the best as time goes on... all of it could have been great. But this just didn't cut it. We spend half of the book in the hospital with Coco, trying to recover from an injury that Logan gave her. Poppy is only there to be cute in two, three scenes and then it's like Logan doesn't have a kid at all. And I get that he felt bad, apologised profusely and all, but it felt weird that he kept buying her stuff so he'd forgive her for almost killing her, basically. I really couldn't get behind it.

Also, the whole hiring Coco to be Logan's lucky charm thing was so extremely weird. The third act breakup was the most hypocritical thing ever, and Coco was absolutely out of line and the resolution is laughable. In general, I don't think this book was that great and I don't think I'd recommend it.

Thank you so much for the eARC! This review has already been uploaded to Goodreads :)

I picked up this book since it's in the hockey romance sub-genre that is a big hit lately. Unfortunately I did not enjoy it as much as I had hoped. The pacing was inconsistent. It started out with a bang, but then stalled, then picked up at the end and raced through the last bit. There were some sentences and words repeated in close succession that needed more editing. Some of the character names changed slightly either in the spelling or actual name used so it seemed like the book was written in a hurry. The one part I enjoyed was some of the romance and steaminess between the main characters. But, that was really a small part of the book. Both main characters could have been fleshed out a bit more because there were times when their reactions didn't make sense within the plot. The plot itself was a good idea, but the execution was not well done in my opinion.

Thank you NetGalley and publisher for the e-arc to review

I will admit... I was a bit disappointed in this one. It was leading up really well, the single-dad, the combo of a hockey skater and a figure skater- I mean Icebreaker is taking the internet by storm, it seemed like this would appeal to similar people. But the ending!! No. It wraps up so quickly, and I felt like the betrayal on both parts was forgiven both too easily and too quickly. It is weird to say, but if this book had been 100 pages longer I think it would have been much better.

I really wanted to like this book but, man, was it a drag. It was so overly descriptive and read like a teen fan fiction.

I really love a hockey romance and was so psyched about this but it just felt like nothing happened for so long.

DNF at 42%

I was excited for a hockey romance but was very disappointed with this one. I think the fmc was at the ice once in the whole story and it mainly took place in a hospital. Also felt super repetitive and annoying.

Thanks to NetGalley and Siesta Key for the ARC of this book even though I requested it after the publication date.

I went into this knowing that it was a hockey romance with a cartoon cover, which, to be honest, was all I needed to know. This had the potential to be fun, but it fell a flat for me especially because so much of the story takes place in a hospital that all of the lucky charm stuff after leaving the hospital actually feels like a whole separate, kind of disjointed book. Also, the insta-love was truly instantaneous in a way that was distracting (but I’m pretty sure that’s just because Logan and Coco are both kind of unhinged.) Marissa and Cam are the best characters in the whole book and I hope that readers get more details on THEIR stories in later books in the series.

Thank you in advance to Netgalley and the publisher for providing me with an ebook copy of this book.
This will however not influence my review.

The cutting edge sounds like a fun sports romance. I am a fan of ice hockey so I thought this would be a fun and easy read for me as it is a romance between a figure skater and an ice hockey player like in Icebreaker which I btw loved.

I read a few chapters which were nothing special but promised a fun read.
However when I came across the same few sentences in a span of a few pages, I decided to dnf.
Apparently this book wasn’t proof read by neither an editor not the author herself. I certainly hope this is the case, otherwise it’s just lazy writing.

Because of this I will not continue to read this book even a page further and strongly advise to proof read before publishing to avoid mistakes like that.

The Cutting Edge is a fun and short romance read.

It features Coco Charmaine, an Ice Skating Olympian and Logan Rivers, an NHL star. An accident happens and Coco ends up in the hospital, and it's Logan's fault!

I really enjoyed both Logan and Coco's characters, but Poppy was the highlight!

The majority of the book does take place in hospital, so I wouldn't necessarily call it a sports romance as there is not too much hockey playing etc. I also wasn't a fan of the third act conflict, but that might just be a me problem as I am not a fan of secrets between fictional couples.

All in all, a sweet little read.

I usually love a hockey romance but this one fell flat for me. The timing felt off, It was written like some chapters of the book were supposed a few days but suddenly a few weeks had passed which was really disorienting. There was one scene in particular where Coco’s friend suddenly appeared without being written in just to say a specific line when it didn’t make sense for her to be there. In addition there was an odd storyline added in about an ex boyfriend right at the end when it was needed to demonstrate that Logan was the big, tough overprotective guy, it absolutely felt forced. This felt like it was a first draft with plenty of potential but wasn’t quite ready for everyone to read. I really liked the world Lisa had created around the team and would be interested in reading the next in the series if it was a bit more polished.

I may or may not have a new book boyfriend, Logan is the biggest cinamon roll ever. The book needs some reviewing, there’s definitely some errors, some paragraphs are repeated, the characters lines are marked with “” and there are loads misplaced, which messes a bit with the reading, but personally I didn’t find it majourly disturbing. If you get mad with these things it might trigger you though. The story itself... is good. I melt for a good sweet romance and Logan and Coco are so freacking sweet together. There’s something that pissed me though: at some point a certain person comes in and Coco makes a decision I was absolutely sure was going to mess everything up and I was so mad for a part of the book. The end made up for it, so I can’t stay mad at it, but no doubt it was nerve recking trought a good part of it.

I absolutely loved this book, and could not put it down! I personally am obsessed with hockey romance books, so thought this was such a good addition to my collection. It was all written so well, and i absolutely loved the characters and the whole story line. I think it all tied together so well, and i will definitely be rereading this! I'm so excited for the second book, and would absolutely recommend this book to anyone who likes any type of romance books, but especially sports ones, as this is a professional hockey player and figure skater romance, which is always so cute, and is typically so well written! All in all, i would definitely recommend :)
