This was a fun read. I really enjoyed the story and illustrations, they made the story more enjoyable. I was kept interested throughout the story. It was suspenseful and a delight to read. Thank you for the opportunity to read this graphic novel.

I had high hopes, but this ended up being just “ok”. The dialogue fell a bit flat, although the concept was promising, This was fine but a bit boring.

Third Shift Society is a fun story about a woman finding out she has powers and accepting a job she never thought she would have. A mix between Constantine and Scooby Doo, the plot is intriguing and holds enough mystery to keep the reader interested. This volume has a few different entries into the story of encounters the leads face. It ends on just enough of a cliff hanger to feel satisfying and leaving the reader excited for more.

Third Shift Society was a miss for me on several accounts. Beyond the comic, this is the second Webtoon Unscrolled graphic novel I requested. The watermark on these graphic novels is so heavy it greatly impacts the reading experience. With the entirety of the comic being available for free online, the heavy watermark is overkill.
In Third Shift Society, the monster designs are fun, and the side characters are designed/articulated quite well. Unfortunately, that's what kept me going in this graphic novel. The plot was disjointed, the pacing was irregular, and the main character was a Mary Sue. I ended up reading this comic on Webtoon's website (due to the aforementioned watermarks), and Third Shift Society just wasn't for me. The graphic novel didn't really have any heart, and the art style varied from character to character, even in the same scene. I wish I had more positive to say about this graphic novel, but both the formatting and the story itself were a miss.

I am reading this through WebToons, but it was wonderful to get a refresher on how the story started. I was so happy to see that this wonderful world would now be available to those who are not aware of this online resource!

This is a fun story with a lot of heart.

The artwork in this book is absolutely beautiful. The story is fast paced and instantly gripping! I can't wait for the second volume to come out

Third Shift Society was a fun read, although it fell a little flat for me. The book opened up a lot of questions, and hardly any of them were answered. Why does Ellie have powers? Why does Ichabod have a pumpkin head? Why does this society exist in the first place? And most of all, why isn't <i>Ellie</i> asking these questions? I don't know the answer to any of these. I was never bored by the plot, but it couldn't keep my entire attention either.

The art, likewise, was pretty good, but it felt a little flat. Sometimes Ellie's expressions felt over-the-top. Most of the time the backgrounds in scenes were solid colored backgrounds instead of the the actual locations they were at. Most egregious (to me) was that the dialogue word bubbles weren't always in the expected order, making the dialogue confusing. The illustrations weren't bad, by any means, they were very nice, actually, but they weren't eye-catching.

I think this book has some good bones, and I think I like the characters, but it needs a little bit more depth, more richness, for me to feel like it is a complete meal. I am definitely going to read the next book in the series, but I hope that it does more to explain the plot, and then ground it, than this book did.

I am so happy that I got to read and review this one. The cover pulled me in. A dude with a pumpkin head, I knew I had to read it. The story was so interesting. The magic is so neat. I cannot wait to read more about it. I am hooked. There was some creepy stuff and lots of action. There was even a vampire! If you love all of these things then this is for you. Third Shift Society Volume One is a published Webtoon by Meredith Moriarty and is about Ellie who becomes a Paranormal Investigator after assisting the pumpkin-headed Ichabod as he subdues a spirit. This comic is sort of a "monster of the week" style where Ellie and Ichabod investigate paranormal activity over the course of one to two chapters with recurring characters in each chapter as well.

I have never read anything by this author before and I am fairly new to Webtoons so I didn't have much expectations going in. I think this is a thorough first stab at a series, but the characterization could use some work. I felt like at the end of the first volume, I hadn't gotten to know Ichabod or Ellie outside of very general characteristics such as Human or Spirit, male/female, etc.

I don't know too much as to what is going to happen further in the series and it didn't draw me in enough to make me want to continue, but I was enjoying the story while I read it.

An interesting premise. Loved the artwork and the storyline. Ellie, struggling to adult and find her place in the world, unexpectedly discovers that she has magic and is actually good at it. And so she enters the paranormal world with Ichabod by her side, going on quests and solving mysteries! I cant wait for more! It ends on a bit of a cliffhanger.

This was such a fun ride! Rather episodic, but very enjoyable. I'd honestly read a few hundred more pages about Ellie and Ichabod. (Or watch a TV show about them!)

It starts with Ellie who is laid off from her job as the owner is closing the business and she needs to find a new job stat to pay all of her regular bills. It turns out Ellie is terrible at a lot of different things, kind of a cliche but we'll let that slide. It is also never referenced again after Ellie finds her paranormal job even asking Ichabod if the job pays, or what it pays, or the relief of having the money to pay her bills.

The characters all feel more or less the same without much differentiation in speech pattern or personality. It is Ichabod and the rest of the cast, and Ichabod is by far the most interesting character.

Ellie is quick to acclimate to and control her powers, or so it seems by the flippant and quick references in the story-which makes it seem effortless and less significant (unsure if that was intentional or not). In a specific instance, there is a page illustration with many different scorch marks from past accidents, but I think this might have been more impactful and less passive feeling if there were many small panels illustrating the accidents happening in quick snapshots.
 
It reads as a collection of vignettes. The characters all feel more or less the same, same thoughts and speech patterns without much differentiation. There is Ichabod and the rest of the cast.

The jobs that Ellie and Ichabod do seem too insignificant, snips of time passing but generally don’t feel like they have much bearing on the overarching story (even though they should).

This could have been improved a lot by making these jobs more significant feeling (and not as many in one issue). There are four separate missions, one of which Ellie does solo that could have been put off to the next issue, and the bug one which was kind of weird. I feel like it just needed a lot of restructuring to help the flow of the story-especially because it ends in the middle of a significant scene and a “cliffhanger” type of cheap trick to get you to continue to the next issue. A single issue should be a self-contained story and part of the overarching story and puzzle, where the clues and story itself compel you to the next installment without resorting to cheap tricks. This was kind of the fault of the editors putting the book together since they should have ended the first book earlier (after the scene Alice, or after the scene with Oberon) where it would have an intriguing clean break-not a commercial interrupting a poignant scene feel.

I loved this so much! First of all.... I love the humor in this book! I was laughing by the first few pages and really liked how relatable the female character is!
I really enjoy books where the main character falls into their powers! It's such a fun experience to watch the female character grow! I also loved Mr. Pumpkin head (little nickname I have).
I loved their relationship! It's such a great read and I can't wait for the next!

This was a cute fun story. The different cases they take on are all unique and interesting. However I don't understand how the main character finds out she has magic powers and doesn't even once question is or try to figure out where they came from.
The art is fine but it's pretty basic, there isn't a lot to look at because the backgrounds are pretty empty.

Overall it was a fun time I just feel like it could have been slightly better.

I'm always looking for good graphic novels and this one definitely falls under that category. My only complaint is that it was over too quick! The artwork was great, the story really flowed and the characters were fun and original. Each mystery was different and well thought out and this is probably just the romance reader in me but I'm feeling some chemistry between the paranormal detective partners. I also love that the main character, Ellie, is kind of floundering in life until she meets Ichabod, the aforementioned paranormal detective who also happens to have a pumpkin for a head -- which would probably mean the romance thing is not as likely to happen but one can hope. The ending has me patiently waiting for volume two!

From the moment I laid eyes on the cover, this book grabbed my attention. It immediately evoked a sense of Sleepy Hollow, and I found myself unable to tear my gaze away. The story itself proved to be just as intriguing and unique as I had hoped. Its seamless flow made it incredibly easy to follow, and the unfolding scenes held my interest so completely that I even forgot about the baseball game I was watching. That's how engrossing and captivating this book was.

Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this read and eagerly anticipate the next installment. Its ability to transport me into its strange and fascinating world made it an incredibly enjoyable experience. If you're looking for a book that will captivate your attention and leave you eagerly awaiting more, then look no further.

A very quick read! Loved the art-work, i wanted to read it because of it. Enjoyable plot with mysterious characters and twists. I’m not mad with the cliffhanger at the end, that made me wanting more and i think I’ll continue the WEBTOON. Interesting story and unique, i liked the world and the different monsters. And I can’t wait to read more about the demon we met.
Also, a character with a pumpkin head?? Amazing.

Beautiful art and very fun story to go with it! I picked this up purely because of the artwork and it did not disappoint. There is a cliffhanger which I don't mind.

Way to leave us on a cliffhanger! Although, now that I know this was originally a Webtoon comic I may have to head over there to find out what happens next.

Our main character Ellie is down on her luck — she’s behind on bill payments and recently lost her job. She also doesn’t think twice when she watches a man with a pumpkin head fly out of a window being attacked by a skeleton beast. Instead, she tackles the monster and shoots blue flames out of her hands. Ichabod, the pumpkin man, congratulates her on her apparent psychic abilities and offers her a job as a paranormal investigator.

First off, I love Ichabod as a character. His head on the cover of this book is what initially drew me in,
Second, I also love Ellie. She’s quirky and funny and knows how to kick ass. Reminds me a bit of Buffy (my all time favorite heroine).

It’s hard for me to comment on the art style because the advanced copy is a bit blurry and there are watermarks all over. But when I head over to the website, I can see that the lines are clear and I like the color choices.
I’m really happy to have found this series and will continue to read it.
