As a dog trainer and owner of two Goldendoodles, I was excited to read the 1 Minute Dog Training. Tom Mitchell's training program, based on repeated, short training sessions several times daily makes sense to me. Use of 1 minute sessions strengthens the human/dog relationships and takes advantage of learning theory. Dog training, according to the current research is most effective when incorporated with play and, most importantly, based on positive reinforcement. Mitchell has developed techniques and strategies that are easy to understand and follow, starting with the three training basics: sit, stay, and come. Examples from the author's training experiences make the book interesting. Other training techniques such as TTouch to increase calmness and focus,
compassionate leadership, and intentions are reviewed in an easy to follow approach.
Mitchell included discussions about the signs of aggression and important issues when selecting your dog's diet. Most essential to me is the beautiful job Tom Mitchell does reminding the reader that dogs are our friends and should be treated with respect and caring. Thank you Netgalley for the opportunity to read this advanced copy of 1 Minute Fog Training in exchange for my honest review.

So you got a dog. You don't have much time. But you are frustrated because your pet doesn't listen or obey?

Pick up this simple and clear training manual; it's a great start to a new relationship with your dog. You'll have to be sequential. You'll have to be consistent and firm. You'll learn how your dog understands what you want and want to please you. This book will help you with all that.

Put it on the table beside your gaming chair. Don't forget to check in every day and get moving. Follow the pictures and step-by-step instructions, written by someone who loves and knows animals.

Look out, my 3 doggies. New lessons are coming your way!

As a new dog owner with two small children, I have signed up for many dog trainings and have read many books. I was excited at the prospect of training my dog in 1 minute daily sessions as opposed to the 15-20 minutes most manuals and training programs require. Tom Mitchell covers many of the basic principles of dog training from a behaviorist approach.

What sets his program apart is the way he teaches us to respect our dogs. By incorporating training methods into a dog's everyday routine and learning to simply build trust while reinforcing the behavior we want to see, we are able to train our dogs with less stress. Tom Mitchell truly makes dog training accessible for the busiest pet parent and teaches a lot about dog psychology in the process.

There are many resources included on the 1 minute dog training website and I'm looking forward to purchasing the children's book version to continue my children's learning as they help me care for our new family member.

Thank you to the author and publisher for the e-arc copy!

I felt there were too many stories and not enough training tools. It did motivate me to try to do more short training daily and be more consistent.
Thank you to NetGalley and BooksGoSocial for this eARC.

My poor rescue pup needed some love and training. We’ve been trying to do what we know how, but this book offered so many excellent tips and I can see some real improvement already! Thank you.
