This is broken down into short sections that focus on different objectives / problems you might be worried about potentially if you’re thinking of bringing a new dog into your life, or if you have one that, let’s say, you’d like to change some habits of a dog you already have. I’ve had dogs almost every year of my life, and some dogs come into your life without any problems, and others… just like people, they need to realize that the world doesn’t revolve around what they want, and there are things that are absolutely necessary for them to learn if you plan on getting along.

Each of these short sections share some wisdom that may help with a particular problem you’re having, or help you avoid having that problem. Mitchell includes some examples of what to do or what to avoid, but he also makes it all seem easy because it is both faster and easier than what you would get from your typical dog school ‘class’ which is more focused on controlling your dog through specific demands, whereas Mitchell’s is focused on leading through love.

Included in the ’Endnotes’ are several links to several sites, as well, which may be helpful, in addition.

I liked that there are very clear step-by-step instructions with pictures for basic commands. I liked the "Action items" and "Let's Review" at the end of a chapter.
There is a bit of the psychological aspect of why dogs do what they do (or don't do) as well as human's relationship with dogs. And I liked the chapters "Is Your Dog Smart?" and "The Dog's Brain" as they went more into these details of the dog's mind/ brain.
This book seems well-researched and includes resources as well.

As a dog trainer and owner of two Goldendoodles, I was excited to read the 1 Minute Dog Training. Tom Mitchell's training program, based on repeated, short training sessions several times daily makes sense to me. Use of 1 minute sessions strengthens the human/dog relationships and takes advantage of learning theory. Dog training, according to the current research is most effective when incorporated with play and, most importantly, based on positive reinforcement. Mitchell has developed techniques and strategies that are easy to understand and follow, starting with the three training basics: sit, stay, and come. Examples from the author's training experiences make the book interesting. Other training techniques such as TTouch to increase calmness and focus,
compassionate leadership, and intentions are reviewed in an easy to follow approach.
Mitchell included discussions about the signs of aggression and important issues when selecting your dog's diet. Most essential to me is the beautiful job Tom Mitchell does reminding the reader that dogs are our friends and should be treated with respect and caring. Thank you Netgalley for the opportunity to read this advanced copy of 1 Minute Fog Training in exchange for my honest review.

So you got a dog. You don't have much time. But you are frustrated because your pet doesn't listen or obey?

Pick up this simple and clear training manual; it's a great start to a new relationship with your dog. You'll have to be sequential. You'll have to be consistent and firm. You'll learn how your dog understands what you want and want to please you. This book will help you with all that.

Put it on the table beside your gaming chair. Don't forget to check in every day and get moving. Follow the pictures and step-by-step instructions, written by someone who loves and knows animals.

Look out, my 3 doggies. New lessons are coming your way!

As a new dog owner with two small children, I have signed up for many dog trainings and have read many books. I was excited at the prospect of training my dog in 1 minute daily sessions as opposed to the 15-20 minutes most manuals and training programs require. Tom Mitchell covers many of the basic principles of dog training from a behaviorist approach.

What sets his program apart is the way he teaches us to respect our dogs. By incorporating training methods into a dog's everyday routine and learning to simply build trust while reinforcing the behavior we want to see, we are able to train our dogs with less stress. Tom Mitchell truly makes dog training accessible for the busiest pet parent and teaches a lot about dog psychology in the process.

There are many resources included on the 1 minute dog training website and I'm looking forward to purchasing the children's book version to continue my children's learning as they help me care for our new family member.

Thank you to the author and publisher for the e-arc copy!

1 Minute Dog Training: The Fun, Fast, & Easy Way to Train Your Perfect Dog
Tom Mitchell
Author Tom Mitchell has been professionally training dogs for over 30 years. In his book you will learn:
How to develop a positive relationship with your dog.
Effectively work with your dog in 1 minute sessions.
The three simple steps to easily train any dog.
Two or three 1-minute sessions each day shows consistency. Your dog will enjoy the attention and so will you,
Dogs are smart and can understand us when we talk to them. By speaking to your dog in full sentences you are showing him respect. He will learn from your tone of voice. Your dog wants to please you; by speaking to the dog in full sentences with a pleasant tone to your voice he will respond with respect, will learn what you mean and will go out of his way to respond to you in an obedient manner.
Three of the most important lessons you need to teach your dog are to sit, stay and come. When you first start training your dog you should hold your 1-minute sessions indoors to prevent your dog from being distracted. You will need a flat collar and harness. The collar or harness should have your family’s name and phone number embroidered on it. You may want to consider microchipping your dog. The collar and leash should only be used for short trips such as a potty break. Lengthier trips call for a harness and leash. Treats are a great motivator when you first begin your training sessions but eventually praise becomes the best motivator.
This book is written in an easy-to-understand manner. The instructions are easy to follow. Author Tom Mitchell leads readers through introducing a new dog to your household, house training, and other habits and behaviors you would like to change in your four legged child.

With fun quick precise instructions the author explains how to train your dog in one minute and although this seems out of the box. The author and professional trainer explained out with the repetition and caring you can do exactly that. He gives you the tools needed the things to buy to prepare your home for training and the thing I like most is he always emphasizes loving your dog, speaking in clear full sentences and never yelling and calling your dog names. This is a great book with good and fun ideas and one I highly recommend for dog lovers and those wanting to train your dog. I want to think the author and net galley for my free arc copy please forgive any mistakes as I am blind and dictate my review.

As a pet care provider, I find that this book is an excellent choice for busy people who are looking to train their dog in the limited time they have in a day. I do agree with the author that these short sessions are more likely to be done regularly because of their short duration and I do think this will encourage more people to try their hand at training their pup themselves.

I love the pictures and the end of chapter summaries to tie everything together. I think that the format is great for those with limited time to digest and they will find it easy to understand. The website companion is also a very nice touch for visual learners and those who just want to make sure that they are doing everything correctly. The breakdown on the site between puppies and older dog videos is excellent.

I like that the author's deep love for animals is clear throughout the book. Those are the kind of authors I trust when it comes to dogs. I also like that he addresses how to communicate with your dog outside of just training such as making sure to use complete sentences. He clearly respects how intelligent dogs are and the potential they all have to learn. I also like the touch communication section. It sets this training book apart.

I would love to see this expanded to include more commands outside of the sit, stay and come basics. May just need a follow up book!

Thank you to Netgalley for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I have two dogs and I found this book most interesting. Now to put all I have read into practice.

This is a quick and easy dog training book, with a focus on very frequent brief training sessions with lots of praise. I have been practicing it with my dog (a 2-year-old miniature American Eskimo dog), who already had the hang of sit but definitely does not know stay. I can't really report back on results yet because it is a work in progress, but I got some good tips from the book and will certainly refer back to it through our training. If anything, I feel a little closer to my wily dog after reading more about the way she understands things and I have tried to be more intentional about my interactions with her. I wish I'd read this when she was a puppy. 4 stars.

1 minute dog training is simply that, although Tom Mitchell does recommend longer to get the best results, the book is easy to follow and sets out the foundation training for any dog and also has a QR code you can scan that links you to his training videos, perfect for a beginner dog owner.

I found this book helpful for my younger dog. We are still working on a few things, but the one minute approach has been insightful. I enjoyed the pictures included and the occasional joke. I would definitely recommend this book to a new dog owner

Even the simplest dog training has always mystified me. Fortunately, this book turned all of that around for me,. A fun and easy read.

These days we lead busy lives and don't have time to spend hours and hours every day training our dogs. In addition, puppies have short attention spans and easily get distracted in a very short amount of time. So, this 1 minute dog training concept makes so much sense for both owners and dogs.

I love that the techniques used in this book are based on kindness and positivity. It is an excellent resource for a first time dog owner or anyone interested in canine and human relationships. I have read hundreds of dog training books and still found it to be informative and well written.

The author portrays his strong love of dogs and his thirty years of experience really shines through. The chapters are well set out and the training techniques are easy to understand.

I really love the concept of this book. As a mom of many dogs (currently 13) we know the importance of friends with good manners. This is a perfect book for those wanting to learn to help their dog (or future dog) be its best self.

1 minute dog training is a reward based book giving useful advice for novice dog owners. It explains the psychology behind dog behaviour and emphasises the importance of building a positive relationship with our pets to get the most out of the time we put in to training. You can read it all, or dip into individual chapters as you need help as it covers a variety of topics including biting, house training and basic commands.

This is a great resource for dog training. The techniques are broken down into shorter sections. Some techniques are use to help with a problem and some are used to help avoid problems. I am looking forward to using this book to help train my dog.

This might be a little optimistic but the theory is good. Well illustrated and clear directions make working with your dog fun and easy. With the purchase of the book you get access to video's online. The ease of training depends on the breed and amount of time you are willing to invest. A good investment with a new puppy or older rescue.
