Thank you to NetGalley and Harlequin Trade Publishing for the ARC in exchange for my honest review!

From the description of the book, I definitely got The Notebook vibes and I already knew it was gonna be a tearjerker. And I was right - I was tearing up within the first 100 pages and full on sobbing by the end (Evelyn's final letter broke me). Evelyn and Joseph are a beautiful couple with a beautiful relationship. Evelyn gets diagnosed with rapidly progressing Parkinson's and is resolved to die on her own terms before the disease progresses even further. Joseph is her loving and dedicated husband who doesn't want to live in a world without her and decides to go when she does. And so together, they decide to live for a final year. The book switches between the current timeline and the past, giving us a look at how their relationship has developed over their lives. Even when they got old, I still imagined them as they were when they were young and in their teens, and I think that was also exactly how Evelyn and Joseph still saw each other no matter what age they were at. Their relationship was a "she fell first, but he fell harder" type. I think this quote from the book embodies their relationship perfectly: "She [Evelyn] has never belonged to anyone but herself, and I [Joseph] have never belonged to anyone but her." I loved them so much and was rooting for them through the portrayals of the ups and downs of their marriage. And the ending of the book made me cry, but I thought it was perfect.

I also really appreciated getting a little bit of their children's POV and see what their reactions were to their parents telling them the news and their plans. There were also clear issues in the children's lives with their own spouses/partners, and it was nice to see how those conflicts played out over the year. I would have loved to read more from the children's POV, but I get it, this is about Evelyn and Joseph.

Overall, this was an amazing book, and I highly recommend the read. The book touches on grief and loss, love, and family - a reminder to us that time flies by - spend it with the people you love.

I received this book as a free ARC from NetGalley. The Days I Loved You Most tells the love story of Joseph and Evelyn as they prepare to end their lives in one year due to Evelyn receiving a tragic diagnosis. Eveyln and Josephs love is what people search for their whole lives. I love that stands the test of time, a love that stands through trials and tribulations. This book moved me so deeply. I don't usually get emotional with books but there were a few parts I teared up. The fact that Amy Neff didn't make their marriage sugars and flowers made me appreciate the book even more. It showed the good and hard parts of marriage which I think readers will appreciate. Marriage isn't always easy, but you continue to choose each other and that's what Joseph and Evelyn did until the very end. I also liked how we got the perspective of their children as they went through the year trying to convince their parents not to end their lives. It added layers to the story. The transition from the past to the present was smooth so it kept me intrigue. All in all, this was a really great read, I would highly recommend.

Thanks NetGalley for the opportunity to review this book. Definitely quite a tear jerker and quick read. I didn’t think there would ever be a book that made me cry more than The Notebook. A must read for 2024…it’s still early in the year…plenty of time to put it on your TBR list.

This book did bring on the tears as it followed Evelyn and Joseph's love story and decision to end their lives together after a devastating diagnosis. I think that no matter who you are everyone can relate to a piece in this story if it's the parents, the kids or the grandchildren. The dual timelines worked well together with so much heart and emotion from Evelyn and John being teenagers to young parents to watching their children make mistakes and grow. It honestly makes you think what would you do in Evelyn's and Joseph's situation.

Thank you Netgalley and Harlequin Trade Publishing for this ARC

There are books that find you at just the right moment, lifting you up when you need them most. And then there are books so timeless you could pick them up no matter the year, no matter your age, no matter the struggles in your own life and find something that speaks to you, a spark that ignites you. THE DAYS I LOVED YOU MOST is one of those rare gems.

Yes, it’s an unforgettable, epic love story. Yes, it’s a rich and nuanced family drama. And yes, it’s a beautiful ode to the Connecticut shore. But it’s also—somehow!—more than the sum of all these parts. A meditation on grief. An examination of mortality. A commentary on longing for the life not lived. And a tender lesson about loving the life that you have. Amy Neff writes with such raw and natural talent, you will find yourself re-reading paragraphs to let the words sink in. The world she creates is wholly real and somehow breathlessly ethereal, so that reading this immersive story is like having a technicolor dream you don’t want to wake from. Be prepared to read with your heart in your hand.

Amy Neff reaches your heart in this deeply moving novel The Days I Loved you most. A beautifully written love story, a resilient marriage and a lifetime of memories created and shared through generations. With well rounded characters and a thought provoking storyline Amy gently pulls you into the lives of Joseph and Evelyn whose story will stay with you long after you finish. I highly recommend for anyone who enjoys women and family fiction.

This book follows a couple in the last year of their life, with many glimpses back into the decades they have been together.

I will admit that I did not catch this sentence in the description of the book: "So in one year’s time, they will end their lives on their own terms." Being strongly opposed to the taking of human life, even by one's own hand, I would not have selected this book to read had I known. That said, the book is well written with sympathetic and realistic characters, and heart-warming insights into a love that has not faded with time. And don't we all need to experience more of that?

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC. All opinions are my own.

I didn't want to like this book at first, but I ended up loving it. When Evelyn is diagnosed with Parkinson's disease, she and her husband Joseph make the decision to end their lives together in one year so that they don't have to live without each other. They gather and tell their children who obviously all protest. The story is told in two timelines, flashing back to the early days of their love story. A great read!

The Days I Loved You Most by Amy Neff Has Already Become the 2024 Book I Love the Most

Review on Amy Neff’s The Days I Loved You Most, her newest romance/women’s fiction novel, set to be in stores by July 30, 2024. This newest romance revolves around Joseph and Evelyn, our pair of soulmates. We can watch flashes of their journey of falling in love together and the beautiful life they build for themselves. When Evelyn is diagnosed with Parkinson’s, however, she decides to take matters into her own hands. Release date: July 30, 2024.

I don’t want this ARC review to sound too fangirly. I just contain too much unexpected (in a good way!) love and passion for The Days I Loved You Most by Amy Neff.

There are so many things I admire about this book. If we’re being honest, I would die to develop an author’s voice and magic like Amy Neff’s when I grow up. We will start by discussing her main characters and soulmates, Joseph and Evelyn. Neff is extremely talented at bringing their romantic relationship to life. Her writing successfully transported me into this world; it felt as if Joseph and Evelyn were my own parents.

We start at the Oyster Shell Inn (the Inn that has been in Joseph’s family for generations) when Joseph and Evelyn share their tragic news with their three children. Evelyn has been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. From this diagnosis, Evelyn has decided that in a year, she will live her final days to the fullest and consequently end her life in one year. Joseph, deciding he could not live without his beloved soulmate, reveals that he, too, is ending his life with Evelyn in a year.

Wait – that’s completely ridiculous and insane?

Here’s the backstory: Evelyn was never close with her mother while growing up and later on into adulthood. However, Evelyn’s mother was the first to get diagnosed with Parkinson’s, Evelyn becoming essentially the ‘default caretaker’ due to no other family in the picture. Therefore, Evelyn had a front-row seat to how this disease ravages a person’s mind and body. She was present when her mom started struggling to recognize Evelyn or forgot her daughter’s name, etc. Evelyn had to endure her mother’s newly failing memory while still witnessing the millions of ways Parkinson’s wittles a person down until they are nothing more than a shell.

Evelyn had a difficult decision to make. She felt the only way she could exit this life with her pride and dignity still intact and without leaving as merely a shell of a person. She needs to end her own life on her terms. Once you read this gorgeous love story, you will understand why Joseph felt he needed to join Evelyn. There is no Joseph without Evelyn, just as there is no Evelyn without Joseph.

A brief look into Joseph’s mind on the matter:
“This has nothing to do with how much we love you all, please know we love you so much. But you have your own lives, separate from ours, and those lives will go on. Our lives—” I gesture at Evelyn “—have always contained each other. I’ve only known this world with your mother in it. A world without her, frankly, isn’t one I want to wake up in” (Neff, 75).
Instant tears.

The next GIANT elephant we need to address in our metaphorical room is the AUDACITY Amy Neff has to write something this beautiful and heartbreaking. I am being entirely literal when I tell you that I could barely go five pages without breaking into tears. The writing voice Neff holds, paired with the flashback and present-day alternating perspectives, helped flesh out a connection from novel to reader. For me, the first time I truly connected with this novel, the quintessential point when the book sucks you in, and from that moment, you cannot press play on life again until you finish this book.

My moment struck here:
“What are you doing?” She blushes as she asks.
“Memorizing you, at sixteen.” It jolts me as I admit it, sixteen, the way it makes me want to see her at every age, to file this one away for later (Neff, 41).

I will be forwarding my therapy bills to Amy Neff for the foreseeable future.

Okay, okay. Enough of my fangirling! The Days I Loved You Most, the newest romance/women’s fiction novel by Amy Neff will be in stores on July 30, 2024. This novel is one of the most beautiful works I have had the privilege to read, and it made me feel so much. Do yourself a favor, read Neff’s newest novel, and find out whether it means as much to you as it now means to me!

The Days I Loved You Most is a thoroughly enjoyable novel that I feel any reader would find poignant, relatable, and deeply moving. The author has a knack for making life’s ordinary moments seem extraordinary with her elegant prose and storytelling. Although it is a love story, it’s romance is refreshing in its simplicity. The characters are well-developed and endearing, making you feel as though you’re hearing the story of your own grandparents albeit with touching vulnerability. Prepare to read it in one sitting because once you start you won’t be able to put it down. Can’t wait to discuss it with all my friends and family when it’s released in 2024!

I was given this book by NetGalley for an honest review-
What a beautiful touching book about a precious love!
Evelyn and Joseph playmates for years as their childhood friendship evolved to a deep love. The war he and her brother fought with only Joseph returning, the heartbreak of her leaving and Joseph following her, the love they both felt and so their life began.- the ups and downs of marriage, raising a family but through it all. A love like no other. What a treasure this story was.

An exceptional and deeply immersive debut, THE DAYS I LOVED YOU MOST, is a sprawling love story that will make you smile, yearn, and cry.

Set against the backdrop of the mesmerizing Connecticut shoreline and amidst the significant moments spanning the 20th and early 21st centuries, the story traces the journey of Evelyn and Joseph from their tender years, frolicking in the meadow that separates their homes and swimming along the shores of Bernard Beach; through their tumuluous youth and the tragedy that almost tears them apart; all the way to their golden years, when they once again confront an unimaginable challenge.

Reminiscent of The Notebook and The Most Fun We Ever Had, THE DAYS I LOVE THE MOST is a testament to both the beauty and challenges of spending a lifetime with someone you love so deeply; the sacrifices such a love demands, as well as the immense joys it bestows. It is a celebration of the secret codes that every loving family has—the shared familiarity, the references, the symbolism of particular songs, memories, and moments, but also an exploration of how misunderstandings and lack of communication can fray the deepest of bonds.

Ultimately, it is a poignant acknowledgment of the universal truth we all have to face—that not everyone we love will leave this Earth at the same time as we do.

This book was just what I needed! Excellent! I couldn't put it down, and lost many hours of sleep, but it was so worth it! I loved how it wasn't just the couples point of view, but the children also played a part in their love story. The thing that hooked me the most was the fact that it wasn't a perfect love story. There were some major bumps in the road of this couples lives which could've destroyed them, but they marched on. Cant wait for this to release to the public and recommend to all my fellow book worms!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ The Days I Loved You Most by Amy Neff, published by Harlequin Trade Publishing, is set to release July 30,2024.
Not many books bring me to tears— but this is one of them! Wow. This is truly a beautifully written love story. The love between Evelyn and Joseph is felt so deeply throughout the story. I truly appreciated how raw, and real this story is. Reminding the reader that every love story has its challenges, and can be messy. Each relationship dynamic is so crucial, and shows how beautifully imperfect families can be.
I loved that this story weaved throughout the years of this couple, showing you different moments of their love.
I highly recommend if you’re a romance book lover. It’s a similar vibe to the notebook, so if you loved that story, you will love this one!

An engaging and endearing love story. So beautifully written. A love story cultivated over decades. They have had difficult times and separations. They have decided when it will end. The story leading up to this end is heartwarming and heart-wrenching. The dual timeline approach shows what has lead up to their decision. This one is an emotional rollercoaster. Have the tissues ready. This a wonderful debut novel. Thank you Net Galley for allowing me to read this one and giving my honest review. #TheDaysILovedYouMost #NetGalley

I really loved reading Evelyn and Joseph’s story as it spans decades starting with young teens growing up as neighbors and best friends. It illustrates of the changes, trials and unfolding of true love over time. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
