Lauren and Kane each harbor a dark secret. One of them believes their secret is safely buried, but the other is very much aware their skeletons share the same closet. After Lauren experiences a traumatic assault, she returns to her small hometown of Lamington, Massachusetts. Finding a job in a local bookstore, she meets the charming Kane, a security consultant, and an immediate attraction sparks between the two. As their relationship develops, she puts her past behind her and looks forward to the future. When Lauren finds a box of Kane’s hidden in the attic, long-buried memories are triggered. Faced with a discovery that makes her life a living nightmare and promises to destroy her hope of happiness, she takes matters into her own hands.

Perfectly executed. Each page had me wondering if this was going to be it and then bam. Never ending thrills. Will recommend to others.

I really enjoyed this one and couldn't put it down. It was fast paced and cram packed with everything I want in a thriller. I would suggest checking TW though

Very good book. Definitely kept me on the edge of my seat. As I was reading it I felt sorry for the character for what she went through and I was little surprised that it was her husband before he was her husband. But I kinda had a feeling as I read further into it that it was probably her husband especially when she started putting the pieces together. I'll definitely be reading another one by this author.

The cover is what drew me in and I’m so glad I was able to read this. It had a great thriller aspect and the concept worked well overall. The characters had a great feel to it and I was glad that I read this. G.N. Kearney has a great writing style and can’t wait for more.

This was pretty dark! Actually very dark and should probably come with q clear trigger warning for the topics covered. I can't decide how I feel about it to be honest. It's definitely tense and suspense filled. It's quite a unique premise and a storyline I'd not come across before. The writing though..... it felt like I'd missed pages or just that it jumps about quite a bit, which was odd. Not sure if that's an editing issue and may be rectified before print but other than that, it is very dark, it is a bit brutal, some of the characters are just plain evil and they're very well written to be completely evil which made me feel pretty uneasy. I'm assuming that's the point though lol! Definitely an entertaining read

This was a thriller, and the tone of the writing was dark and gritty. I thought the author did a good job of creating an atmosphere, and there was a lot of suspense. The storyline had themes that may be distressing for some readers, such as sexual violence, and although I found this a little bit upsetting, I did become invested in the story.

This book was aptly named. Lauren had been raped by Kane but she didn't know it. All of her memory of the event have been wiped away. She had been diagnosed with a form of amnesia.

When Lauren met Kane at her best friend's husband's birthday party they hit it off instantly. It wasn't long before she fell in love with him, and soon they were married. She'd been told that there was a 10% chance that she could get pregnant, but get pregnant she did. She wasn't very far into the pregnancy when she miscarried. Of course, she was devastated. But Kane was very understanding. She didn't want to have sex with him and that drove him to raping women.

One day, she was in the attic of their house and she found a tin filled with his momentos of the rapes. Among them was a star that fell off of her charm bracelet. That's when she knew he'd raped her.

There were two detectives who were investigating the rapes and Kane's name came up. They interviewed Lauren but she didn't give him away. With one of the rapes they found a partial fingerprint.

Lauren decided that Kane didn't deserve to live. So she planned a weekend away with him at a national park. It was where they'd gone for their honeymoon so she knew he'd want to go. Her plan was to drug him and push him over a cliff. And that's exactly what she did, but before she did, she told him that she knew. His response was one of reproach. He told her that he had raped many, many women and would never be caught. At this point they were on the cliff and he grabbed her with the understanding that if he was going over the cliff he was taking her with him, as he knew she was going to murder him. She broke his grip and shoved him over.

She hadn't told anyone what she'd discovered. She knew that if she told, the murder would be considered justified homicide.

It took 3 days before Kane's body was found. His death was considered a homicide, and the two detectives who had been investigating the rapes arrested Lauren for murder. Her bail was $25,000, which her parents paid. And the detectives were able to match Kane's fingerprint to that which was found at the one rape scene, so that even if she hadn't killed him he would have gone away probably for life.

The rest of the book was about her trial. The author did a marvelous job weaving Lauren and Kane throughout the story. And I thought the plot was well thought out. The author was able to hold my attention completely during the entirety of the book, and for that I gave it five stars.

I had high hopes for this book, but in the end I thought it was predictable and lacking any real suspense. I feel that the author jumped about, not fully exploiting the parts that drama was being built and almost eager to finish one section of the story and get into the next. No spoilers, but it could have been a darker, more complex cat and mouse book if the author had tried harder. I felt as though the author had a great idea, but then became bored and didn’t bother to develop the plot to its best. Overall lacklustre. Ok, but nothing special.

There were points when this book kept my attention but also I did feel confused at points and struggled to keep up.

Thanks to NetGalley and Level Best Books. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book.

I should have gone with my gut reaction and stopped reading this at 20%. I did finish it, unfortunately, and cannot recommend this one. I realize it's an uncorrected proof, but my goodness does this need editing and proofreading. For example, characters you haven't seen before, then are introduced a couple of pages later? I kept having to go back to previous pages to see who they were talking about - very confusing. The story was all over the place. And it supposedly takes place in Massachusetts? It certainly wasn't written in that vernacular. This was definitely not for me.

I know it was you was written well enough with enough drama and suspense but some of the characters were so evil I skipped to the end of the book. If you have been assaulted ever this book might be too much for you.
