It is worth noting that this book is a translation, though one might not guess it while reading. The only real indicator is the use of terms not common in the US. The English translation has a natural feel. The vocabulary is accessible and the plot is easy to follow. The humor is strong as well, with pun-based names that lend themselves to being read aloud and ridiculous events in equal measure. With appealing illustrations that support the text this is a solid choice for a young reader.

The Pinchers and the Diamond Heist by Anders Sparring is the first book in the Pincher series. The story is silly and humorous and the characters are quirky. Beginning readers will enjoy this fast paced story of a family of thieves. Theo doesn't quite fit in with his parents and sister. Lying makes him feel ill and he hates the thought of stealing anything. The cheeky illustrations by Per Gustavsson add to the fun.

I received a complimentary copy of this book via Netgalley. Opinions expressed in this review are my own.

Also, I found the Pinchers very entertaining, I fear I may have some parental issues about it. There is nothing educational or moral in this book, I guess except Theo. I do howev3r love it and I think it's the perfect book for kids who dislike reading. I can say that it is a very unique fun story that will make you smile.

This book is a quick read full of pictures about a family full of thieves, except for Theo. He wants to be truthful and a police officer when he grows up. The family goes on a wild adventure to try and steal a big diamond.

I liked this one! It was quick and full of action. It was also full of humor. I liked the quirky characters and the pictures throughout. I think a lot of kids will enjoy this book!

Thanks so much to netgalley and gecko for the arc of this one in exchange for an honest review!

The Pincher family are crooks – well all except for Theo who cannot lie or steal. This first in a new humorous heavily illustrated series introduces us to the family who all, including Sherlock the dog, wear criminal looking black eye masks. Laugh as they go to see Grandma Pincher in prison where she too is wearing a black eye mask. A funny beginning chapter book that might be perfect for a reluctant reader.

I read this book with my 8 year old, and he and I did not love this one. It is sort of a riff on the Adams family with their one normal cousin, here it is a family of thieves with an honest son. It had a lot of potential, but it fell flat. My kid and I wished there were more jokes. It may be that the jokes were lost in translation to the English, but it was a miss for us. We also were uncomfortable that there was so much encouragement to lie. For adults, it is easy to decipher that isn't the message. I am less sure about kids. We won't be picking up the sequels.

The Pinchers are such a fun family and their friends are too. I laughed out loud when Cheater-Rita did push-ups and was so happy they took her to the diamond heist. Easy to read, fun illustrations in this chapter book filled with humor that motivates readers to keep going. Has a fun quiz at the end and also a thief name generator. I love fun gangster thief family stories with witty dogs.
Thank you publisher and netgalley for this e-arc.

This was a really cute little chapter book. Poor Theo doesn't fit in with his family, because he wants to be honest and they like to lie and steal. Their adventures had me giggling, as the parents went off to steal a diamond and the children went to jail to spend time with their grandmother.
Thanks to NetGalley for letting me read this

A fun heist mystery for elementary kids. The illustrations were fun. The pacing was quick. Kids are able to stay interested throughout the novel. A gateway book got other mystery books.
