After reviewing Dr. Haver's book The Galveston Diet, I wished that I had that book before I began my menopause journey in 2009. You can check out my review of this not-really-a-diet-book HERE. But when I read The New Menopause, I wished that I had this book back in my early 30s when I began navigating the pre-menopause jungle.

Dr. Mary Claire Haver is a force to be reckoned with on Tiktok and other social media. However, Tiktok is where I found her. She is a board-certified OB/GYN, a Certified Culinary Medicine Specialist, and a Certified Menopause Provider, who uses fact-based research to design the best life for pre- and post-menopausal women. She frequently shares research documents, which then allows her followers to arm themselves with evidence to provide their medical providers.

Part one of the book takes the reader through the history of menopausal medicine and talks about how most of us who've brought up symptoms other than hot flashes to our doctors have had to endure countless tests with normal results. We've probably been told that it's all in our head or that it's the price to pay for aging (This is VERY untrue!).

Part two discusses the symptoms of menopause, possible solutions and strategies, as well as how menopause is affecting your body biologically. She discusses the options for hormone therapy and the pros and cons of each.

Part three, the menopause toolkit, was the most-informative part of the book for me. Dr. Haver lists dozens of symptoms, explains why it's occurring, and the overall strategies available to combat them. These topics include the common menopause symptoms like hot flashes and acne, as well as those that might have been overlooked such as brain fog, heart palpitations, joint pain, and vertigo. Frankly, it was shocking to read through this list to see so many of the symptoms that I had been dealing with for 5 or more years leading up to my hysterectomy and in the years following that I had stopped taking estrogen, because online information was incorrectly telling me that I should get off of it after 5 years.

Like The Galveston Diet, I can't say enough about The New Menopause. While it came into my life too late, it doesn't have to be too late for you. The time is now, no matter if you're in your 30s, 40s, or 50s. You need to arm yourself with solid medical evidence if you intend to talk to your doctor and this is the best place to start. The New Menopause: Navigating your path through hormonal change with purpose, power, and facts is the second book from Dr. Haver due out on April 30, 2024 but available for pre-order.

This book is really. It’s very relatable in the experiences McCammon shares. I appreciate the wide variety of sources she uses to support what she’s saying. It’s a hard book to read, but I’m really glad to have read it. It is nice to know my experiences and those of my friends around me are not incredibly unusual.

A fantastic read. As a reader going through perimenopause, it will be a great resource as I navigate this new phase of my life. I will recommend to my friends as well.

Menopause is not talked about in many places including the doctor's office and outside it. There's not a lot of information available or believable. Dr. Mary Claire Haver, MD. is looking to change all that. She offers information, how to talk to your doctor, a mentor, and discussion so it makes you feel like you're not going crazy.

The author is definitely outspoken, is looking to spread the word about menopause and peri-menopause and offers some solutions that might work for readers. Definitely a good read for those in menopause, who think they might be, or might be close. Even it you not sure but your just not yourself and you have brain fog, anxiety, weight gain, sleeping problems, hot flashes, etc.

Informative, "real life stories" start each chapter. Lots of information on HRT. For those going that route, Dr Haver offers points to discuss with your physician. At the end, an entire section on various topics with ways to combat them (both through nutrition/supplements/etc). Informative & easy to read. Thanks to NetGalley, Rodale Inc & Dr Haver for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Women in their late 30s/early 40s, put this book on your TBR piles. Dr. Mary Claire Haver has written the only book you will need when you are in perimenopause. I have read several books and articles about menopause in the past year as well as following doctors like Haver on social media and this book is THE book that gives you the information you need that is easy-to-digest and empowers you as a patient to advocate for yourself at your next doctor's visit. Haver recognizes that while not ideal, patients have the opportunity to be educating physicians and changing the paradigm about hormone replacement therapy, which has been unjustly maligned for the past 20+ years ever since a wrongly interpreted study was released via press conference to the media back in 2002 that said it increases the risk of getting breast cancer. This book empowers patients to discuss this previously taboo topic with their doctors in order to return some quality of life from the laundry list of physical and mental health symptoms related to perimenopause. Because at a certain point, you have to ask yourself if it's worth the risk to gain back some quality of life.

I'm in my mid-forties and in perimenopause, so this book was just what I needed to educate myself on symptoms and how to alleviate. I liked that the book was set up explaining the hormones and the science behind what happens in peri and post menopause. It didn't push or sell anything and encouraged to find a doctor that would listen and was willing to help. The second half of the book listed symptoms and what you may experience with way to alleviate them. I now feel informed to talk to my doctor and make a good decision on what is best for me and my future.

Thank you Mary Claire Haver for shedding light on menopause and making women feel heard.

Thank you to #NetGalley and Rodale Inc. for this opportunity to read and review this book.

I would first like to thank NetGalley and Rodale Inc. for receiving this ARC of The New Menopause.

I am 46 and have seen my body change in the last year. I truly thought "I know my body" so something is wrong there is no way I am it could menopause I am still getting a cycle. I am too young.. right? Well I first heard of Dr. Mary Claire on a podcast episode of Chris Powell's podcast "I Needed That" 11/13/23 episode. I couldn't believe my ears. she blew my mind, I was not crazy, the anxiety and changes in my body was not just in my head but perimenopause (had no idea this was even a thing)
I have since followed her on Instagram and started implementing changes in my wellness journey I have already pre-ordered her book & needless so to say I was truly grateful to read this ARC. The book itself is very well laid out, the toolkit comes in handy for skipping to symptoms that affect you it also goes through the different stages of perimenopause, menopause & post Menopause.

As someone nearing the age of perimenopause, I was eager to pick this up and start learning about the world to come. I love the breakdown of each section in the book and the separation of so many potential symptoms that one could show. There is a great breakdown of hormone treatment as well.

The New Menopause by Mary Claire Haver, MD is a comprehensive guide to menopause. She systematically lines out a tool kit for symptoms of menopause and the treatments available to treat them. She addresses hormone replacement therapy (HRT) in detail with studies and the different forms available. The emphasis of the book is on diet, exercise, and starting treatment early to prevent issues related to the decrease in estrogen. I learned a great deal about the importance of estrogen in the body, in particular about the estrogen receptors in the brain that can lead to dementia.

I would recommend this book for all women, it is a complete guide for anticipating the changes in menopause, what you can do to feel better with the symptoms you have, and prevent detrimental changes to your health. I also recommend this book for medical professionals, it’s important to know how to address women’s concerns and symptoms. Menopause should be a topic that is discussed at primary care and gynecologist visits with an emphasis on recognizing it early and having a comprehensive treatment plan. The author gives you the facts to advocate for your health and well being.

Thank you Rodale Books and Netgalley for the advanced reader copy. All opinions are my own.

This was just what I needed! Validation that I'm not losing my mind.... And my my body isn't rejecting me. For several years ago these strange things just started happening. I felt like a lunatic with my list of symptoms during my physical. My PCP is younger than me and has no clue what may happen to her someday. Thank you for writing this book. Thanks for the arc. The information was exceptional and it came when I needed it most!

What to say about this book? I absolutely loved it and will recommend it to all my perimenopausal friends. Finally a book that addresses all the little tiny symptoms of menopause that many doctors brush off as unrelated.
The Author does mention her other books and products in the book a few times. I found it a bit annoying but it wasn’t overwhelming.
This book is easy to read and laid out in a way that you could easily take this to your dr and show them the parts about symptoms you are experiencing and hopefully trigger a discussion.
In this book, it is evident that we are finally being heard. It was not dismissive at all which is what we normally experience. 5 stars

Thank you, NetGalley and Rodale Inc for the advanced reader’s copy. As a woman of a any age, I greatly enjoyed reading this very informative book. This book has chapters that describes the different symptoms associated with menopause, helpful patient stories, and then provides an alphabetical toolkit where you can look up a specific symptom and it will give you information about that particular symptom. I found this book very nice as there are just SO many symptoms that can be related to decreasing estrogen levels and menopause. Thank you for providing this up to date research that focuses on about half of a woman’s life that there are not many studies done on and many doctors tend to say is “just a part of life”.

I have come across various resources pertaining to women's health the past few years, however not as informative and helpful as Marie Claire Haver's The New Menopause. Having joined her newsletter and having read The Galveston Diet by this author, I was excited to have the opportunity to read this such book relating to women's change of life.
Let me start out with saying that The New Menopause provides very well- outlined chapters of research that supports the facts presented throughout the text, pertaining to many concerns and issues experienced by many women. A lot of information is presented in a way that engages the reader, helps them understand what they may be facing and how to seek the help they need to possibly alleviate the issues faced. As a woman experiencing early symptoms of perimenipause, I was glad to encounter this book to provide me with the necessary information to address to my doctor. I especially appreciated the tips and pertinent information to gather to support my issues and concerns relating to my personal health. I, for one am planning on bringing the issues at hand forward to my doctor to discuss the best possible solutions and address ideas to alleviating what I am going through. This book by Marie Claire Haver not only gave me the confidence in voicing my opinions and concerns, it gave me the knowledge I needed to look into what I may be facing.
Thank you netgalley for the ArC of this book.

An eye-opening and very informative book about a subject that isn't discussed nearly enough. More than just anecdotal, Dr. Haver provides concrete research.
