Simple Qigong Exercises for Health by Dr Jwing-Ming Yang

227 Pages
Publisher: YMAA Publication
Release Date: April 1, 2014

Nonfiction, Health, Exercise, Mind, Body & Spirit, Chinese Medicine

The book is divided into several chapters and was originally written in 1988. It is suggested for the beginner level.

Chapter 1: General Introduction
Chapter 2: Qigong Training Theory (includes images)
Chapter 3: Sitting Eight Pieces of Brocade (includes photos of the poses)
Chapter 4: Standing Eight Pieces of Brocade (includes photos of the poses)
Chapter 5: Conclusion

I enjoyed learning the history of Eight Pieces of Brocade, the theory of Qigong and the training categories (maintaining health, curing sickness, prolonging life, martial arts, and enlightenment or Buddhahood). He stresses the importance of understanding the reason to practice qigong and not to just repeat the motions without knowledge. He discusses the three treasures: essence, internal energy, and spirit.

This book is a good introduction to qigong and will help the reader understand the theory behind the practice. If you are interested in beginning a qigong program, this book would be a good place to start.

I think this book is a wealth of information on qi gong. I don't know how useful it will be if you are actually learning the movements however I think it is a good secondary resource for people interested in qi gong.
