3.5 ⭐️ and rounded up: once I started reading, I didn’t want to put it down. No Place Left to Hide is a fast paced, dual timeline book, going between the present and the night of the accident when an old classmate and friend of Brooke dies. There was a lot of drama in this book, and every time my sister looked over my shoulder, someone was calling someone else a bitch lol very mean girls!! But entertaining nonetheless. I did find the twist to be predictable, but it was still pretty good.

As author Megan Lally said in her afterword, second books are HARD! Both my teen granddaughter and I loved her debut novel, That’s Not My Name, so my expectations were high. While I thought most of the characters were unlikeable or blank slates, the plot flowed well and as tension mounted it was fairly exciting. The alternating Then/Now chapters were a bit jarring at times, and I didn’t completely buy into the conclusion, but teen readers probably will- and will certainly enjoy the ride.

was it wrong of me to root for the protagonist?

Synopsis
Brooke was haunted by a mysterious accident. Now that it was her turn to be happy as she got accepted to a prestigious univeristy, things popped up again that reminded her of the accident. Who would dig her past?

What I like
The cover.

What I don't like
It took too long (an entire book) to get what went on, I understand that we as readers could guess, but the introduction just went on and on and on...
(MAJOR SPOILER) I like Brooke a bit too much for her to suffer the way she did in the end, so this went into a list of things that I don't like from NPLtH.

Final thoughts
Pick it up if you like mystery/thriller and YA, I just wished it got trimmed and gave us something more.

No Place Left to Hide is a wildly fast-paced YA thriller that mainly takes place over a single night - though with flashback chapters slowly revealing the mystery of a death six months prior. It gave a bit of PLL vibes and I flew through the book, unable to put it down. However, I didn't find any of the characters particularly likable and wasn't all too surprised with the twists. But an entertaining thriller nonetheless.

After reading Megan Lally’s “That’s Not My Name”, I knew immediately that I wanted to read more from this author. Lally’s new novel gave me mean girl vibes with a thrilling twist. I liked that our main character Brooke Goodwin was so unlikable. I typically find myself relating to characters, so this was a nice change and kept me intrigued because I just couldn’t figure her out. I kept giving her the benefit of the doubt until I was shown her true colors, and even after all those red flags, I was STILL shocked. I just think that goes to show how great the author is at spinning a story and writing complex character profiles. This was so fast paced that I devoured this in just a few days. I was already pleasantly surprised by her debut novel, but “No Place Left To Hide” just confirms that I want to read whatever she Megan Lally has to offer. If you are looking for something different, twisty, and most of all FUN, please pick this up. You won’t regret it!

Thank you to NetGalley, Sourcebooks, and Megan Lally for allowing me to read “No Place Left To Hide” In exchange for my honest review.

Thanks to Netgalley and SOURCEBOOKS Fire for the pre-release copy of No Place to Hide by Megan Lally. Below is my honest review.

I really enjoyed Megan Lally's last book, That's Not My Name, and so I knew when I saw this one that I had to get my grubby little hands on it.

This one is similar to That's Not My Name in that it's about teenagers, involves some dark situations, and has some major twists. While That's Not My Name took place over time, this one takes place over the course of an evening, with some flashbacks to build suspense, context, and the origin of the mystery.

Honestly, it's rare nowadays for a twist to really get me, so I was pleasantly surprised that while I guessed one of the twists, I got slammed head-on with a bigger twist that I did NOT see coming.

Highly recommended for fans of twisty YA mysteries. Definitely worth the read.

Megan Lally is quickly becoming a must read author for me. I loved loved loved her debut and enjoyed this one as well.

Brooke cares a lot about her image and will do just about anything to make sure her life stays perfect. But when a girl dies in an accident at her lake house and months later she is getting anonymous phone calls and now a car tailgating her on the way home from a beach party. At what lengths will Brooke go to keep her image perfect?

Megan does a great job with her twists and turns in her books. She does a great job keeping you on your toes throughout her fast paced books.

Thank you Megan Lally, Sourcefire Books, and NetGalley for an eARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This mystery with 2 timelines kept me guessing until the end. Brooke's perfect life has been disrupted by "the incident." As the reader tries to figure out what, exactly, happened, Brooke is experiencing some intense harassment. Is it deserved? Who is trying to dredge up details that Brooke would rather leave buried? I must admit that I was somewhat surprised at the answers. Short and easy to follow, this book will be an easy recommendation for many teen readers.

Megan Lally’s debut was amazing so I couldn’t wait any longer to start reading NO PLACE LEFT TO HIDE.

I’d say this YA thriller falls in the category of just alright for me. It was slow to start, but picked up and was suspenseful in the last 30%. The characters were unliekable and I felt it was obvious who was involved. This is one I would recommend passing, but definitely pick up her debut - THATS NOT MY NAME.

I feel like the start of this book was quite slow and it didn’t really pick up until about 30%. I found the fmc really unlikable which I know was intentional but made it hard to root for her. despite this, the tension of the book was really good and was eager to see where it headed and what really happened at the lake house. I guessed one of the twists about halfway but not the main one so I’ll try better for her next book!

This was my first Megan Lally book and it will not be my last! I enjoyed the quick, dual story line in this book that had some great twists and turns! This story chronicles the lives of a bunch of privileged high school kids that are heading off to post secondary but an event in their recent past is haunting them. Will the truth come out? Who will take the blame?

Thank you Net Galley, Megan Lally and Sourcebooks for the opportunity to preview this title. The opinions shared are my own.
Look for No Place Left to Hide on Jan. 7, 2025!

⭐️⭐ No Place Left to Hide by Megan Lally

Unfortunately this book was not for me.

From the blurb: “To Brooke, image is everything. She works hard to maintain perfect grades, perfect looks, a perfect life—especially after "the incident" that threatened it all.” So just from this little bit of summary, Brooke is insufferable and “the incident” was such a let down. Brooke is an all-out mean girl. The things she thinks and says are just so mean, and childish. I wish I had kept track of how many times she said “sucks to suck.” She made fun of a real-life person from Love is Blind, which I found off-putting. Aside from Brooke, the incident that’s referred to was anticlimactic and stale. The road to get to the end lost its excitement early on and left me bored. (The side characters were way more likeable and interesting.)

I loved her debut novel, but this one fell short.

Thank you to NetGalley for providing me with an ARC of this title for review.

Thank you so much for the ebook to review!

4 star review:
This book was surprisingly good. I did not know what to expect as I haven’t read Megan Lally’s first novel called ‘That’s Not my Name’. This book really took me by surprise with how thrilling it was, and suspenseful to read. There is a dual timeline, which I love in books. A revenge plot, and dramatic car chase.

I liked how confused I was and how it took a turn I least expected! I liked how I was made to love and care for a character that was completely miscalculated. It was a good read. I recommend to anyone into thrillers/mysteries. it’s actually a YA thriller and well worth the read.

Wow! You won't guess who did it. Such a fast paced thriller. Lally is definitely auto buy for me. Perfect to pull you out of a slump.

Definitely worth a read, very quick, got me out of my reading block. Lots of twist and turns. Climax very unexpected, had me guessing throughout the whole book. Brooke had a stalker trying to frame her for the murder of Claire her ex best friend. Throughout the book you would jump between people on who you think the stalker is and who killed Claire. And when you thought you found out who it was turns out you didn't. You will never believe who killed Claire and who brookes stalker is.

Con- the only con is that after you found out who it was the last chapter felt quite rushed and just left me feeling like I wanted to know why and how the murderer felt and their point of view on the after math on everyone finding out.

Megan Lally’s No Place Left to Hide is a thrilling YA novel that exceeded my expectations. As someone who doesn’t typically read YA fiction, I was pleasantly surprised by the fast-paced plot and engaging characters.

Hard to explain my feelings here but the book feels kind of like a Netflix original movie, on the page (in a good way).

If you're looking for a quick and entertaining read, No Place Left to Hide is a great choice.

Thankyou to the author and Netgalley for the ARC.

After “That’s Not My Name” being a 5/5 star read, I was cautiously optimistic for this one. It did not disappoint! I could not get enough and flew through the pages and at the same time did not want it to end.

The pace of this book was perfect. It makes you want to keep reading because it is super suspenseful and wanting to know what would happen next was always on my mind. Brooke was a likable character with her perfectionist ways. Her along with her friends reminded me of the “Pretty Little Liars” series.

I can’t wait for the next book from this author. She’s becoming a “must read” author for me, and I’ll continue picking up her books and recommending them to my network. Thanks NG for this ARC!

What a quick read! This thriller will have you on your toes and reading past midnight!
I loved the before and now style of the book. Some things are not as they seem. What lengths would you go to protect your secret? Would you take it to the grave?

Thank you so much to Netgalley and SourceFire Books for this eArc! This is my second time reviewing a Megan Lally book, and I am so excited to share my thoughts on it!

To begin, this is a dual timeline book following Brooke Goodwin as she is getting ready to go to college; however, a dark secret continues to haunt her from a high school party 6 months ago. The format of this book made it a fast-paced read and each chapter left off on a cliffhanger that made me anxious to read more. I think the most captivating thing that Lally developed throughout this story was Brooke’s character: her motivations, her ego, her relationships with friends and family, etc. She has a need to please those around her, especially her father, and will do nearly anything to bring respect to the Goodwin name. The plotline is solid; there were only a couple of chapters in the middle where it lulled a bit, but once I got to the third act of the story, it picked up quickly.

The only thing I wish Lally explored more were the personalities of the side characters, more specifically Jena and Claire. I think that the relationship between the two of them and Brooke could have been explored deeper, and I was craving this development towards the end, especially with the big reveal.

Speaking of the big reveal, the only thing I will say is that I haven’t read a book with a twist like this in a while, so props to you Lally! It is definitely a psychological thriller that will mess with your brain a bit, so put on your detective glasses and trust no one. I really enjoyed this book and as I said in my review of Lally’s That’s Not My Name, I am so excited to read more from her!
