I loved Megan Lally's other book, That's Not My Name, so I was so excited to receive an arc for this one! It started off slow at first, but I was pulled in soon after due to the intensity! It was a little predictable with who was behind it, but I still enjoyed it nonetheless. I do wish there included a couple chapters about how this specific person planned it out rather than what we got. This is a great, easy YA mystery read that got me out of my reading slump!

Alexa, play Look What You Made Me Do by Taylor Swift

I forgot how amazing ya thriller books are!! The way that Megan Lally perfected teenagers, their priorities, dialogue and their justification and rationality for unhinged things was so wildly accurate.

Brooke is from a long long line of Yale alumni, and she does everything in her power to get that acceptance letter and to keep her family reputation. After a house party, a truck is aggressively trailing Brooke and her best friend, they THINK they know what happened that night all those months ago and they will do anything to get her to admit to it.

The book is set in dual timelines to help the reader to slowly put the puzzle pieces together. This is a bingeable easy read that I did not put down (it was 1:30am when I finished). I recommend this to anyone who loves a good YA thriller!

Thank you so much to Sourcebooks and NetGalley for this arc, I’ll be checking out Megan’s other book!

No Place Left to Hide was a great, pacey YA-thriller where all the action pretty much happens in one night, which I think made the book fly by. Brooke is dealing with something from her past that is haunting her, and when someone starts chasing her on an isolated road after a bonfire with her friend, she's afraid that past has finally caught up with her. I recommend this for anyone who likes YA thrillers with two timelines.

Thank you to NetGalley, Megan Lally and Sourcebooks Fire for the free ebook in exchange for an honest review.

This was such a twisty, action packed novel with the most selfish characters and I enjoyed every minute of it. It was a really quick and easy read.

This was very predictable. Like I guessed every single plot twist from the very beginning of the book. It was also very, very similar to another book I have read. I felt like we could have used more background information and the ending felt incomplete to me.

Brooke does everything she can to maintain a good image for herself and her whole family. She knows that any mistake could jeopardize her father's career, especially after he cleaned up the whole mess that happened at the lake house. As soon as Brooke can go to Yale, she put everything else behind her--the threats, the vandalism to her car, the scary messages. But someone doesn't want her to leave town, and they'll do anything to stop her.

No Place Left to Hide is an engaging thriller, but one that I was ultimately disappointed in for students. Literally no one in the story is a good person, and there isn't really a solid redeeming message for teen readers at the end. While I think teens will find the story enjoyable, it's not one that I plan on purchasing.

Overall a 3.75⭐️

Thank you, NG, for an ARC copy. 🤍

I really liked this authors first book and was super excited to read this one. I found it very interesting, very pretty little liars in a way. It was super fast paced which I liked.

Near the 70% mark I figured out the who was involved and what happened. Even though I guessed the twist, I enjoyed this one. It was a quick, easy to read thriller.

Total honesty- I loved That’s Not My Name and went into this book bracing myself for a sophomore slump. But that did not happen- If anything, I devoured this one even more quickly than the last! Then, I handed it to my 13-year-old and he devoured it just as quickly as I did. Well done to the author!

This book is about Brooke, who ventures out to a party for the first time since a tragic incident in her past. Just when it seems that everything is coming together for her, a car starts trailing her on her way home…. Anything else would be a spoiler :-)

This was a great book, I recommend it to anyone!

Brooke Goodwin's life is perfect; she has good grades, good looks, and she's the popular girl at school. When a party at her lake house ends in tragedy, someone tries to uncover the truth. What really happened that night?
I really enjoyed the present day chapters, and the flashback chapters toward the end, but many of the earlier flashbacks withdrew me from the book a bit.
They were just a little slow and uneventful at the start.
Eventually the flashbacks caught up to the major plot point and they got more interesting, but I almost wish the flashback chapters didn't begin until later on once the main plot was already rolling. This story definitely has some questionable plot points from a realistic crime perspective too, but for the sake of it being a fairly quick read and a fun thriller, I'll let them slide. If you like thrillers check this one out!
Thank you NetGalley for the ARC of this book! Release date is January 7, 2025!

Thank you to NetGalley and Sourcebooks Fire for this advanced copy of Megan Lally’s upcoming release, No Place Left to Hide!

After reading Megan’s debut book That’s Not My Name in my book club earlier this year and really enjoying it, I was super excited to read this second book! It took a few chapters to really get into but then I was completely hooked and engaged until the last quarter. Once I realized there really was no great plot twist (more like one major twist that you see coming right before it’s revealed) I felt like the whole thing deflated. I feel like this could’ve been great but instead was only good overall. That being said I wouldn’t rule out reading more of Megan in the future in hopes of something more similar to her first book!

Having read and loved this authors first book, That’s Not My Name, I was thrilled to be offered an arc of her second novel.
Different from her debut, but of course it is, it’s an entirely different storyline etc.
I really enjoyed this YA thriller! Fast paced and easy to read. I did have the ending picked pretty early on, and the FMC was likeable while also being insufferable at times, but it was still an enjoyable read nonetheless.

Recommend, as I do her debut novel. I’ll read all the books she creates, as I adore the way she writes, and has you wanting answers from the get go.

Appreciate the arc Netgalley and Megan! Thank you

At first glance, this book had everything going for it. The premise was good. The dual timeline is well done. Megan Lally 's previous book was a hit. Unfortunately, it fell flat for me. My main issue is how unlikable the MC was. There is a good way to write unlikable characters, and there's a bad way. I simply could not learn to care for her. The overall writing was good, however, so this still deserves a 3.

This quick read, young adult novel by Megan Lally was a great palate cleanser that kept me hooked from chapter one! It follows teenage Brooke and her struggle to find normalcy after a non-disclosed trauma with one of her classmates. Someone close to Brooke is convinced she’s hiding something from that day and will stop at nothing to reveal the truth. The twist at the end was u predictable (until the author started dropping hints!) and completely plausible. Overall, a great read that can be consumed in one sitting!

Thank You NetGalley and Sourcebooks Fire for this ARC!

This was my first Megan Lally book, and wow—what a thrilling introduction! The suspense, mystery, and high school drama kept me hooked.

The story unfolds in two timelines, “Before” and “Now,” immersing you in Brooke Goodwin’s world. Brooke is the golden girl—perfect grades, gorgeous, and juggling extracurriculars—until her life unravels after a tragic boat accident six months ago. At a party she secretly organized, her former friend-turned-nemesis Claire was killed, and ever since, Brooke has faced threats and harassment she’s kept secret from everyone, even her friends.

Things escalate when Brooke’s best friend, Jen, persuades her to attend a beach party before graduation with her longtime crush, Logan (who happens to be Claire’s ex). But the night turns terrifying as a mysterious truck chases them, and Brooke realizes her stalker won’t back down.

Megan builds the suspense expertly—the car chase scenes are so intense, I was holding my breath! Though I thought I knew who was behind it, the twist at the end completely surprised me.

With its mix of drama, betrayal, and intense confrontations, this book is perfect for fans of YA thrillers filled with dark secrets and shocking twists. Honestly, I could see this as a thriller movie—it has all the suspenseful vibes that would be amazing on screen. If you love twisted, drama-filled stories, you need to pick this one up!

Thank you so much Megan, Sourcebooks Fire and Netgalley for this arc copy🫶

Brooke, image-obsessed and haunted by a past incident, joins her classmates for a bonfire celebration as they wrap up their senior year. As the night ends, she and her friend become targets of a truck that seems to be stalking them. The driver, determined to expose Brooke's secrets, forces her to confront her darkest fears and the consequences of her past actions.

Well if this isn't the textbook definition of the most unlikeable MC in history.... Yikes. Brooke is completely unbearable. I mean.... She is supposed to be, but at times that was hard to get over. This was a quick, fast-paced, YA thriller that I overall enjoyed. I predicted the main twist incredibly early, and it wasn't quite as strong as her debut novel IMO, but Megan Lally is definitely solidifying her place in the world of YA thrillers. I've read a few other books where the primary setting is people in a car who are fearing for their lives in one way or another, and this one was definitely my favorite of the bunch.

This book had a great premise and I was hooked by the story from the beginning. Brooke is a "perfect" teenager from a "perfect" family recovering from a tragedy in her past. As it turn out, that tragedy is still haunting her today. As she tries to figure out who is threatening her with the truth about her past, she has to deal with the pressure of the life in front of her. This book was fast-paced and the characters were pretty unlikeable as the story unfolds. I raced through it but found the second half of the book pretty wild and difficult to connect to. It is a fun ride and certainly a quick read but a bit uneven for me. Thanks to Megan Lally, SOURCEBOOKS Fire | Sourcebooks Fire, and NetGalley for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

The synopsis of this story was so fun. However, the characters in this story made the book not so fun anymore. I couldn't relate or care about any of them the entire time I was reading. That being said, though, the thrill of this story made up for it. It definitely was a ride, even if it was predictable, up until the fun twists! This was my first book from this author and I will more than likely read another!

I want to personally thank NetGalley, as well as the author, publisher, and anyone else involved in providing copies, for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

2.5 stars rounded up to 3!

I wanted to start by saying that while I enjoyed this book, there are some things that I think could have been executed better. I loved the tempo and pacing! This is an extremely fast-paced book and when I tell you that you fly when reading, you truly fly, The main issue for me in this book was the characters, and while that is expected for the bad characters... the characters you are supposed to enjoy (potentially) or relate to (potentially) or even empathize with, I had a very hard time doing so. So for me, that is the main reason for my rating!

This book has mean girls, secrets, stalkers, and a dead classmate. So if those are things you enjoy, this is right up your alley!

2.5. stars rounded up

I really enjoyed Megan Lally's debut, That's Not My Name, last year, so I was excited to receive an ARC of her newest book. Unfortunately, this one fell completely flat for me.

The Good: Lally knows how to write tension and suspense well, so Brooke's panic and paranoia are palpable. I also enjoyed the alternating dual timelines, which are served in short, quick chapters that keep your attention. This story is reminiscent of a trashy made-for-television movie or show that I would totally binge watch.

The Bad: The characters were flat, shallow, stereotypical, and mostly unlikeable. Though it plays into the "mean girls" plot line, I didn't care enough about Brooke to feel any kind of attachment to her or worry about her fate once the action finally came to a climax. Brooke's constant dwelling on image and her repeated [ad nauseum] mantras of "a Goodwin doesn't _______ (lose/show fear/etc)" over and over along with talking about "the incident" (in quotes, of course) started to grate on my nerves after a while. The twists were entirely predictable, the motives were weak, and I was disappointed in the ending.

This story followed Brooke. A Senior in high school trying to follow in her family’s success in the field of law. She gets into Yale and heads to a party for a celebration. She ends up having a terrible night and has to rehash memories from a bad night a few months back.

I enjoyed this book. I wasn’t expecting the twist! Good thriller!
