I absolutely love it when a book surprises the crap out of me! This story was funny, heartwarming, heartbreaking, filled with tons of misadventures, and characters that touched my heart (and soul) more than I was expecting.

I adore Scotland backdrops, one of my favorite authors (Samantha Young) is located in Scotland, so there are few stories that I've found that capture my heart like hers does, but damn if this book didn't sweep me off my feet. This is a new author for me, and I absolutely fell in love with her writing style and her amazing story. Graeme and Katie were simply the cutest couple, and I love it when a big burly man (especially a Scot) falls like a big oak tree over an unsuspecting, klutzie woman. The secondary characters added sooo much to this story, and there were definitely tears throughout this book for me. I plan to read more from this author, definitely a very entertaining book.

I voluntarily reviewed an ARC copy of this book.

What a delightful book! Katie, a travel writer known for her misadventures, is spending three weeks in Scotland for an Edwardian Experience (think Downton Abbey). Graeme is a hunky Scot who owns the manor where the experience is held. Misadventures ensue.

While this is filled with beautiful locales, puns, and a fun cast of characters, this book is much more than a simple rom-com. Both main characters are dealing with deep grief that has resulted in closing themselves off. Katie travels. Graeme stays close to home. This story looks at what home is and how you handle things - or people - outside your control.

Plus, there is Scotland which is practically a character in itself. And now I desperately want to go.

This is Christian fiction so expect prayer, church, and discussions about God.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and would recommend it to everyone.

Family friendly.

Thanks to NetGalley and Thomas Nelson. I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

There were so many things I loved about this story. Pepper Basham has a gift of weaving together humorous stories, along with meaningful takeaways. The main characters, as well as many of the supporting characters, were charming and brought this story to life. You can tell Pepper has a heart for people, with the way she weaves rich relationships into her stories. As for the two main characters, they both had some past struggles to work through. Yet the reader watches them strengthen and grow on their journey. They are lovable and pull the reader in. Since I’ve never been to Scotland, I also loved being table to experience the country through this story. This book is full of laugh-out-loud moments. Yet there were also some deep meaningful lines that made me think about my own life. This story was a delight to read. And I especially loved the faith elements woven throughout the book.

I unexpectedly loved this book so much! From start to finish, I was hooked. The tall girl representation, Ky representation, and the strong sibling bonds were some of my absolute favorite aspects.

Katie was such a delightful and funny character, and I truly grew to love her as the story unfolded. Her personality and humor made the book even more enjoyable, and I found myself completely invested in her journey.

The narration was fantastic, adding an extra layer of charm to the story. One of my favorite moments was the remark about “this is not a Hallmark miscommunication scene”—it was refreshing to see characters who were mature enough to communicate rather than jumping to conclusions. While the "miscommunication" troupe can often be so frustrating, it was a breath of fresh air to see realistic, thoughtful interactions.

Overall, this book was a wonderful surprise, and I’m so glad I picked it up. If you enjoy heartfelt stories with humor and strong family dynamics, this is definitely a book for you!

Thank you NetGalley, Thomas Nelson and Zondervan Audio, for the opportunity to read and listen to this advanced copy.

Pepper Basham is one of my favorite authors. She writes the kind of books where I find myself smiling or giggling as I'm reading. And that's just what I got in Some Like it Scot!

Katie, a travel writer, meets grumpy Graeme when she goes to Scotland to immerse herself for a three-week Edwardian experience. The setting is perfect and so is their romance. They both have things they're dealing with and they learn how love can help one another learn and grow. It was just so sweet and so much fun!

Many thanks to NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review. Joshua Manning and Stina Nielsen did a wonderful job narrating! All opinions are my own.

Oh my word. You know the book is good when you finish, you are crying happy tears.

This slow burn rom com was so delicious. Katie’s humor and enthusiasm is a joy. Graeme’s care of Katie and his love for his family is lovely.

They both have walked through the losing of a loved one but their experiences are so unique. Watching them grow through their experiences helped me with my own.

I can’t wait to share this book with my family and friends. I received an advanced copy of this book. The review and thoughts are my own.

Scots language, the Isle of Mull, engaging characters - this is fun! Katie and Graeme couldn't be more different but their attraction felt authentic. The faith angle didn't resonate for me but I'm sure it will for lots of readers.

Closed door - yes. Thoughtful - also yes.

Thank you Pepper Basham, Thomas Nelson and NetGalley for the ARC. Opinions are my own.

Travel writer Katie Campbell is excited for the chance to go to Scotland after growing up with her Scottish American Grandfather always telling stories of the beauty Scotland possesses. As Katie arrives to the beautiful Craighill House where she will get to "live as an Edwardian," she is instantly drawn into chaos and is saved by a grumpy giant Scot man. Katie's path continues to cross with the grumpy Graeme MacKerrow but she starts to wonder if there is more to him than just a grumpy Scot.
This is such a fun romance set primarily in Scotland. It made me want to travel there with all the beautiful descriptions. This book has such fun witty banter but also deeper topics with loss of sibling and parent neglect discussions. I loved this read and definitely recommend it!

4.5⭐️ This was just as adorable as @pepperbasham always writes. Katie and Graeme are my kind of characters. Katie is a sweet travel writer that really wants to find a home. Graeme is broody and utterly devoted. Lachlan is a perfect side character to add a lovable charm to the story.

5⭐️ to the narration by Joshua Manning and Stina Nielsen. Loved every second of the audiobook. Bouncing from American to Scottish accents can’t be easy. The flow was fantastic and never confusing.

Do you ever wonder what a place is like before you travel there? Katie Campbell is your girl. Travel writer and podcaster, Katie goes to these location and events so you can see they are worth it. This time, she’s going to Scotland for an Edwardian experience. Dancing and clothing just like in Bridgerton. Not to mention the beauty of Scotland in general.

Graeme is stoic and fine with just his family close. Having gotten their ancestral home back, he’s not thrilled with the people doing these experiences. That is until the very intriguing travel writer crashes into him.

Thank you to @pepperbasham @netgalley and @thomasnelson for the advanced editions.

Some Like It Scot by Pepper Basham

Rating: 4.5/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫

Thank you to Thomas Nelson, Netgalley, and the author for access to this ARC in exchange for an honest review!

Some Like It Scot provides a wonderful combination of romance, self-discovery, and adventure set in the absolutely beautiful setting of the Scottish Highlands!

Katie Campbell, a travel writer, goes on a three-week trip to Scotland and discovers a lot more than she expected. On her first day at Craighill House, she meets Graeme. At first, they don’t get along well, but after spending more time together, they realize that they have a lot in common as they bond over their shared trauma and develop a deeper connection.

Katie was so beautifully written and the way in which she navigated many complex situations/feelings to embrace her purpose was incredible. The supporting characters are so great and the found family element is absolutely heartwarming. Both of the MCs experience such growth throughout the storyline.

Some Like It Scot has an amazing romance, but also demonstrates how Katie navigates a multitude of emotions and feelings. Ultimately, this novel combines romance with how one finds their place in the world to form a super special and heartwarming story!

Thank you NetGalley and Thomas Nelson Fiction for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This book had so much potential but hugely missed the mark for me. Katie’s misadventures start off quirky but then just got uncomfortable and forced in. For some reason in the second half of the book there were also quite a few mentions of “death following her” or her chasing after death which gave really uncomfortable and unintended dark vibes that didn’t fit with what I believe the author was going for. The religious aspects also showed up about halfway in and felt really out of place and pulled me out of the story every time they popped up. The plot felt awkward as if the author changed their mind about the climax half way through writing (the way Mark just stops being a part of the story?). Overall it just felt clunky and disjointed and like two separate books smashed together.

As a huge fan of Pepper Basham’s romances, I was very much looking forward to her newest release. And it did not disappoint! She has such a great way of writing stories with love interests from different countries, creating tension just by virtue of their vastly different living arrangements. Her male protagonists are such gentleman and I’ve fallen in love with them all, Graeme being the latest. I highly recommend this sweet romance.

As my first Pepper Basham book, this one was so much fun! I loved getting to know Katie and Graeme and the world that Basham created in Mull. Katie and Graeme come from vastly different worlds, and yet they are drawn together as if by Scottish magic. Through witty puns, funny mishaps Basham has woven a tale that kept me coming back for more!

I just finished reading "Some Like It Scot" by Pepper Basham. In this romantic comedy, Katie is a travel writer whose job keeps her constantly on the move. Her latest assignment brings her to a charming Scottish village for a three-week "Edwardian Experience" at a historic castle, along with other journalists.

Known online as "Miss Adventure" for her knack for finding trouble, Katie lives up to her reputation when she arrives at the castle and an out-of-control bird sends her crashing through the stair railing—which happens to have been recently built by Graeme, setting up their first meeting.
As Katie explores the village, she forms genuine connections with the locals who welcome her warmly. A particularly sweet relationship develops between Katie and Graeme's clever nephew, which naturally brings Katie and Graeme closer together.

But as the three weeks draw to a close, they face the reality that Katie's lifestyle means moving on while Graeme's life is firmly rooted in Scotland. Their growing feelings challenge them both to reconsider what "home" really means—perhaps it's not about a place at all, but about finding the right person.

I recommend taking a trip to Scotland with this fun novel!

Loved this book so much! I saw myself a lot in the main character: Katie. She is accident prone but laughs about it! This romance is so wholesome and sweet and I haven't laughed so hard in a book in a while! I loved how she really thinks about her feelings for the male main character and processes them like anormal person and makes decisions accordingly. ! highly recommend this book for everyone!

As I am someone fascinated by certain points in history, I would be all over a real Edwardian Highland experience and that’s just how Katie (love her name 😉) finds herself in Scotland. Is this adventure as amazing as she had hoped it would be? Let’s just say that all that glitters isn’t gold, including a sullen Scot named Graeme, but it did provide a lot of entertainment.

This slight enemies-to-love vibe is rolled with sugar and spice, creating the most delicious cinnamon roll hero to exist. I adored these characters and their personalities fascinated me.

There are so many opposites with this duo–one longs for home and familiarity while the other aches for exploration; one finds himself a parent to a precocious nephew while the other lives carefree; one is full of sunshine and light and the other is filled with reality and grumpiness. But this story that showcases all things Scotland allows for these characters to bond over a common thread of loss.

Witty connections full of banter and chemistry tie this sweet story together in such a lovely way. I thoroughly enjoyed the narrators.

Content: mild religion; mild romance; mild moment of peril

I love this book! It is funny, witty, inspiring, and romantic. I adore the characters they are complex and interesting. They are characters that you want for friends. Katie is kind, funny, friendly and has no idea of her worth. Graeme is a bit grumpy, feels deeply, is fiercely loyal and is always saving Katie from some trouble. The side characters are just as loveable. So many life lessons in this book as well. I would highly recommend this book to anyone.

Pepper Basham has done it again. She swept me up in the glory of Scotland, made me laugh with her sweet and flawed main characters, and grabbed me with a touching story. The kilt was a bonus🤣❤️

This book was a really fun take on 'girl goes to Scotland' and it completely changes her life trope. It was a bit more tame than I might have hoped or expected based on the character's personality and the way she spoke or thought of past exploits, but that was alright because it ended up being really suited to the story.

In some ways this was very predictable and in others it offered surprise and delight!

A fun read

Enjoyable read
I love stories that are set in Scotland, such a beautiful country with wonderful people. So, when I saw this book, I really wanted to read it. And I wasn’t disappointed. Our main female character is Katie Campbell, and American travel writer with no definite home. She has parents but her only sister has passed a few years prior. Katie is given an assignment to cover a 3-week Edwardian Experience at a Scottish home named Craighill House. Here she meets Graeme MacKerrow, whose family owns the house. He’s not very friendly and is overworked and is also raising his young nephew. Graeme does have a wonderful family who have large parts in this slow burn romance. Both characters are well developed and show honest emotions and are very real to life. I would hope that Pepper Basham would add additional books set here in the small village that Craighill House is located.
I was given an ARC by NetGalley and this is my honest opinion.
