Happy Sigh!!!! Y'all, this book!!! Soooo good! I know I should think of better descriptive words than "soooo good," but it's very true! I just adored this book so much! Oops, there I go again with the "so's." Sorry, not sorry. I loved this one so much that this is my second read/listen through. Yes, I read it first and then I was given an early audiobook copy and loved being pulled back into this sweet world of Katie Campbell's! She made me smile and cry and laugh! I just adored her character so much. She brought a light with her everywhere she went and helped to lighten the loads of those around her. Especially a really grump Scot. Hahaha! But it just goes to show that she shines brightly that this surly Scot couldn't help but notice and be affected.

Oh my heart!!! I loved every scene with Katie and Graeme in it. And every moment that they are thinking of each other, especially when trying NOT to think of the other.

You'll love the spark and chemistry and tension between these two. As well as the friendship that develops and then continues to grow into a sweet love story. Awwww! These two just compliment each other perfectly. They bring balance to each other. And fill the needs of each other's hearts and souls. Perfection!

The narrators of the audiobooks brought the story to life so beautifully! Their inflections and the emotions that they added made it that much more enjoyable! If you can't tell, I'm hooked and a big fan of this book!

Pick it up and be transported to the beautiful hills and crags of Scotland! You won't want to leave!

Content: Clean. Some sweet kisses but nothing further.

I received a digital copy from the publisher, Thomas Nelson Fiction, and the audiobook from the producer, Thomas Nelson and Zondervan Fiction Audio, via NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions in the review are my own.

Happy Reading!!!

Thank you so much to Netgalley and the publisher for the galley and audio galley. The opinions below are my own.

I had such a slow start to this book, and at first I thought I wasn’t going to enjoy it, but it really turned around about 1/4 of the way through.

I love that the faith aspect of this book felt natural. The characters’ faith was importantly referenced, but I didn’t feel like it was banging me over the head.

I really enjoyed the cast. The main characters was funny and the levity of her life was so good, but she had struggles and it made her relatable.

The MMC was a great book boyfriend, but
*** spoilers***
he gave his ex way too much credit. 😅 it’s good he can own a part in it, but his ex was selfish in a time of very intense grief, which I wanted to yell at her while he was giving her grace. 😂

Anyway, the end had me tearing up and was great. I recommend for anyone who loves romcoms and sweet stories with Christian faith in the background.

This one is a slow-burn (lite) closed-door romance where you don’t even see them hold hands until the second half! The story follows a clumsy travel journalist who ends up on a 3-week assignment in Scotland. We follow her “misadventures” and see a picture into her life and how she came to embrace her clumsiness. There were aspects of this story I could relate to a bit too much thanks to my ADHD.

The author did a pretty good job writing out the Scottish terms so you can do your best to get the Scottish vibe from reading, but if you can - listen to the audiobook.

The authors landscape descriptions made me want to go back and visit. I do take issue with describing Irn-Bru as bubble-gum flavor, though. She forgot the hint of toothpaste and orange soda/pop!

Overall, it was a sweet rom com, with reflections on self-esteem, grief, loss, and moving into the next stage of adulthood. Christian themes start showing up later on in the book, so don’t be surprised by that if you’re not expecting it. It’s not Bible-thumping by any means. If you’re looking for spice, you won’t find it here but you will find two characters who find a home in one another ☺️

Thanks to Thomas Nelson Publishers and NetGalley for the audiobook/print in exchange for a review.

Pepper Basham has a masterful talent for penning stories that drags the reader right into the plot, and Some Like it Scot was no exception. A wonderful story that illustrates the truth of no matter what those on earth have come to make us feel like, our Heavenly Father always claims us as His own, this was a read I had a hard time wanting to put down, and I adored every moment of it.

I've come to expect wonderful things whenever I pick up a book by this author, and she never disappoints. In this lovely tale set in Scotland, readers follow travel writer Katie Campbell who has made a name for herself from the "misadventures" she's constantly encountering no matter where she goes. When the opporunity arises for her to take part in an "Edwardian lifestyle" experience in her grandfather's home country, she jumps at the chance. However, she never expected this beautiful place to breakthrough the chains she placed on her heart years ago, or the dashing Scotsman (Graeme) she encounters early on to have such a huge part in doing so. As Katie struggles to make sense of what all these new feelings mean for her future, readers get to follow along her adorable quest for happily ever after.

This was overall a lovely tale full of adventures (or misadventures?), swoon worthy romantic moments, and the comedic hilarity bits I've come to expect from every book I pick up by this author. While I wouldn't say it's my favorite she's ever written, it was a lovely romance with an idyllic setting and a beautiful faith element that was authentically woven into the rest of the plot.

Final Rating: 4/5.

I'd definitely recommend this one to anyone who enjoys Christian and/or clean romances.

Thanks so much to Thomas Nelson for the opportunity to read and review this one!

I voluntarily read and reviewed a complimentary advance reader copy of this novel from the publisher (Thomas Nelson) via NetGalley. I was not required to give a positive review. All thoughts and opinions are my own, and this is my honest review.

This book has all the charm of a classic rom-com but layers it with an unexpected depth that took me completely by surprise!

This book has grief, heart, found family, and a brooding Scottish man who’s been through more than he lets on.

It’s tender. It’s hilarious. It’s healing. And it’s the perfect cozy romance read!

This book is warm and witty and full of moments that sneak up on you emotionally. It’s slow, but purposefully so. You’re not rushing toward a dramatic twist-you’re soaking in every little interaction that builds trust, love, and belonging.

I laughed. A lot.
I cried, unexpectedly.
And by the end, I felt like I’d taken a deep breath after holding it in too long.

Some Like It Scot doesn't rely on spice or spectacle. There’s no over-the-top drama. Just heartfelt, sometimes messy, always honest storytelling. It’s a rare kind of romantic comedy that balances lighthearted banter with real emotional weight—and does it beautifully!

This book had everything I love. Scottish setting. Quirky characters. Quippy banter. I loved Katie so much. She was so relatable and real. All of the side characters were delightful. I cannot wait to see what this author has next!

Such a fun, sweet book! I was able to enjoy this story as both an audiobook and e-book, and I have to say having the Scottish accents of each character in my ear served to enhance the movie playing in my head as I read along. I loved the incorporation of faith into this sweet romance/romcom book. Dual POV switching between male and female main characters/love interests isn't usually my favorite, but I really enjoyed it in this story. The character development was great and I loved getting to know them through this book. Thank you very much to Thomas Nelson Fiction and NetGalley for the advanced reader copy in exchange for my honest review!

“And it’s not cosplaying. The brochure states—several times— that it’s an Edwardian Experience.” Whatever that meant. “No lightsabers or hobbit cloaks.”

☆☆☆.5

I just finished reading Some Like it Scot by Pepper Basham, and this was a quick rom-com taking place on the Isle of Mull, Scotland! This book follows travel writer Katie Campbell, and her misadventures. She's tall, clumsy, and attracts wild stories wherever she goes! When she gets the chance to write about an Edwardian Experience in Scotland, she reluctantly agrees... only to fall in love with the town, the people, and even a grumpy Scot.

"You’d think I’d never looked deeply into a handsome man’s eyes before... Had I really? Like the soul-searching kind of look? Maybe that came with falling in love, which I may have partially done while watching The Lord of the Rings for the first time, but I’m pretty sure it’s not the same thing."

I wanted to really like this book. It started off really strong! The beginning hooked me very quickly, and I enjoyed reading about Katie's absurd adventures, but around the halfway mark, it started to get a little chaotic. A lot happened in the second half, and it was a little confusing. Overall, though, this was a cute story! Lachlan and Wedge are my favorite characters! They're adorable and made the story so enjoyable!

You'll like this book if you like:
Christian rom-coms
Small town
Forced proximity
Grumpy/Sunshine
Lots of awkwardness
LOTR references
Clean romance

This book gets released on April 8th, and is available for pre-order now!

A huge thank you to the publisher, the author, and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this ARC.

I was excited to read Some Like It Scot by Pepper Basham but was ultimately disappointed. The story felt repetitive, with Katie’s Edwardian experience, encounters with Graeme, and inner monologues dragging on. While I usually don’t mind religious themes, they felt forced here. Despite the promising Scottish setting, humor, and deeper themes like grief and broken families, the book lacked emotional depth. The slow pacing made it hard to stay engaged, and I often skimmed sections.

Thanks to NetGalley and Thomas Nelson Publishing for the ARC—my opinions are my own.

This book was like going on an adventure to Scotland yourself, getting to experience the excitement of visiting a different country from your own bed or couch. It was an enjoyable story about two very different characters which I really enjoyed. It's a slow burn but a slow burn that is well and truly worth it. This book was heavy on the faith so just bare that in mind if it might be a trigger for you. It was romantic but don't expect spice. Overall it was cute!

If all rom coms were this amazing, I’d be reading a whole lot more of them. Basham has crafted a novel with the wit, humor, and romance I expected of a rom com, but the depth of the story and characters were a pleasant surprise that will keep me returning to the story.

Katie and Graeme were an incredible leading couple with their uniqueness and relatability combined with their protection of and care for those around them. As the story progressed, their growth felt natural, and challenged me to look at what lies I might be believing in my own life.

Accompanied by a cast of diverse, funny, and heart-warming characters, Katie and Graeme give us a glimpse of life in Scotland, with just the right amount of whimsy and hilarious experiences to make it memorable. This is a story I’ll be returning to again, both for the laugh-out-loud misadventures and the heart-warming truths about love and life.

Kate, known as Miss Mis-Adventures, has her dream job as a travel writer, and she's excited to find herself in Scotland, her ancestral homeland, filled with folklore and fairies. She will be enjoying an Edwardian experience during her stay at the MacKerrow residence.

Graeme, the hunky cantankerous Scottish man, is employed at the MacKerrow home, which she later discovers is actually his ancestral property that he owns.

This was a wonderfully swoon-worthy and sweet romance to read, even though both characters are dealing with loss. Graeme becomes the caregiver for his nephew and feels guilty for the loss of his sister and Kate's overbearing mother, who constantly compares Kate to her deceased sister, makes it hard for her to move on. Graeme finds himself drawn to Kate and her struggles, while Kate begins to feel a sense of belonging and home with Graeme.

The growth and development of both characters are profound and impactful; they truly complete each other. The supporting characters add a delightful touch, contributing to the laugh-out-loud moments, a sense of found family, and playful mischief.

I truly adored this delightful book. I believe this is my first book by Pepper and didn't really know what to expect. The title and cover had interested me. It's a great clean Scottish rom-com read and would love to see a sequel or it turned into a movie. Loved every second of this book and would be a perfect summer or beach reead!

Katie Campbell is a travel writer who finds herself falling (quite literally) for handsome Graeme MacKerrow while on assignment in Scotland. Prone to hilarious mishaps, Katie has made her living by sharing her misadventures with readers all over the world and loving every minute of it. She has never had any real desire to settle down or stay put, so why does she find herself warming to the idea of finally finding "home" in Scotland? Perhaps it is because this idyllic little town calls to mind her Scottish grandparents, the only adults in Katie's life who had ever genuinely made her feel loved and cared for. Perhaps it is because her heart has been well and truly captured by the "Hot Scot" along with warm and doting Mirren, boisterous and witty Lachland, and a host of other lovable characters on the charming Isle of Mull.

This book is like a hot cup of tea and a warm hug from a friend. Pepper Basham brings a great mix of hilarity, heartwarming romance, and a healthy dose of faith to Some Like it Scot. I found myself falling in love with the idea of Scotland and this cast of genuine, good-natured people, and I was wholeheartedly rooting for Katie to find her home among them. Some Like it Scot is a Christian romance, so there is no profanity or explicit content. It is a sweet romance story with a little touch of faith sprinkled in. I loved the fact that Basham also included messages of body positivity and reassurance that we all need and deserve a place to belong. My heart is happy!

Once again, Pepper enchants you again with a heartfelt romance filled with a rich setting, witty banter and characters with depth! Set in the breathtaking country of Scotland, we follow travel writer Katie Campbell who embarks on a 3 week Edwardian experience. What begins as a professional journey turns into one of self-discovery, unexpected friendships and an irresistible connection with a BROODING SCOT! Sign. Me. Up!

Katie is a "wee bit lost", having spent her life bouncing from place to place, never really setting anywhere. She deep down wants a feeling of HOME and finds it here. Enter our handsome SCOT -- Graeme -- who is a great, hardworking family man and you have one great relationship that develops between the two. He is gruff, but an endearing, kind man helping raise his nephew after his brother passed away. The layer of grief experienced and explained in this book - is beautiful. Reading Pepper's author's note also added to the story because of her own experience writing this book. But "dinnae fash", Basham's signature humor shines through as Katie navigates the quirks of Edwardian living and the people who make this place feel like home.

The romance between Katie and her Scotsman is a sweet, slow burn that I really enjoyed, filled with many heartfelt and swoon-worthy brogue moments - with a sense of family that makes this story truly special.

Highly recommend this healing story as a love letter to Scotland, family, and the kind of love that doesn't ask you to change but rather to stay.

Thank you to Thomas Nelson for a copy of the eBook and audiobook to honestly read/listen to for review. (I have also preordered the book, so recommend you do too!) All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This novel offers an irresistible combination of wanderlust, romance, and self-discovery, all set against the stunning backdrop of the Scottish Highlands. Katie Campbell, a restless travel writer, embarks on a three-week Edwardian experience in Craighill House and finds more than just material for her next article. The story promises both a physical and emotional journey as Katie navigates themes of belonging, grief, and love. Ultimately, this story seems like more than just a romance; it’s an exploration of the many ways we define "home" and find our place in the world.

"Oh my goodness! I loved this book. So sweet, so beautiful, and so funny! Well written and very enjoyable. Pepper Basham is a new to me author. 5 ⭐️ to her writing. I loved the scottish setting, the folklore, and wonderful Scottish people portrayed in this book. Graeme is the most giant of cinnamon roll heroes. Katie is the most alive and go-with-the-flow ""mis-adventurer."" You will be laughing along with her in all of her scrapes she gets into. While this book is fun it also deals with themes of grief and disconnected parents. It also mentions God and going to church and the characters' faith in Him. It is not ""preachy"" or pushy, simply the characters have faith and it is shown as characteristics of the main characters. There are no swears or alcohol, and level 1 non-descriptive kisses only. Dual first person present POV. I listened to the Audiobook and the dual narrators were superb and did excellent accents. I received a complimentary copy of this audiobook. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own. #SomeLikeItScot #NetGalley #ThomasNelsonFiction"
