I completely fell in love with the characters! They are so relatable and the banter between FMC and MMC is exquisite. The way they acted towards one another is so cute. The plot is super interesting and sweet.
And I absolutely loved how the author described Scotland - it was so cozy and picturesque.
I laughed, I cried, but most of all - I had so much fun. This book definitely made me forged all my problems and transported me to a beautiful place.

Oh, My Goodness!! If I’ve ever wanted to go to Scotland, now I want to go MORE!
This was such a fun book to read, and yet it was also a very touching, tender story. Katie and Graeme were dealing with similar deep pain from their pasts, and the crazy adventures that seemed to follow Katie helped them in many ways.
From the very first chapter to the very end of the book, there were so many “misadventures” that happened to Katie. Many of them I laughed out loud while reading, and many I couldn’t believe would ever happen.
However, what better thing to happen was a swoon-worthy hunk came to rescue her. Of course, at first, he was more of a grump, but then Katie and all her craziness brought out his softer side.
Pepper Basham has become an author I will always seek out! Her writing style is smooth, and her storytelling is full of imagination and charm. I was blown away by some of her descriptions and how she painted everything so beautifully with her word choices.
I look forward to picking up more of her books and digging into them.
If you love crazy, fun adventures, wild nature, beautiful scenery, delightful dialogue, and swoon-worthy romantic moments, this book is definitely for you to read. You might find yourself dreaming of taking a trip across the ocean.
The publisher gave me this book, but this did not influence my review in any way; all thoughts and opinions are my own.

I received a copy of this novel from NetGalkey and exchange for an honest review. I love any and all novel set in Scotland, it is such a romantic place in the setting alone is enough to make me pick up the novel great chemistry between the main characters highly recommend..

What do an accident prone, globe trotting travel writer and a penniless, Scottish Laird who is bound to his fens, have in common? Nothing much you'd think.
But in Pepper Basham's rollicking novel, Some Like It Scot, these two meet head on, resulting in much fun, laughter and a light hearted novel that still hits you with kernels of deep truth.
I enjoyed it so much, I didn't even notice it was written in the first person (dislike that, unless it's superbly done, and it so rarely is). Yet, Basham has pulled it off in this light hearted, funny novel.
I could wish she'd cut down on some of her descriptions of lovers enjoying a cuddle; as Ms. Alcott once said, real love scenes are often indescribable. I also feel the book is overdone a tad by making almost every scene with her accident-prone heroine rather, well, accident prone.
She does drive home some home truths on our eternal love, security, acceptance by God. On the whole, I quite enjoyed this novel which is more than I could say about the first one of hers I read. I'm glad I took the risk. I don't think she will become a go-to or favourite author for me, or will she grow on me? Who knows!!
I was given a complimentary copy by the publisher, @Thomas Nelson Fiction and @Add the. All opinions are my own.

i’m so sorry but i couldn’t get into this book. i wanted to love it soooo badly, but for one, the writing was juvenile. for two, the words that she spelt to be like a scottish accent was stupid imo. for three, i couldn’t connect with a single character. and for four, just not my cup of tea.
if i had read this book, say, 3-4 years ago before i developed a taste for good writing i would have likely loved it.
it was clean, it has a Christian author and you can tell in her wording.
but it just wasn’t for me.
i found every line to be annoying, and found myself either skimming full paragraphs or zoning out while reading bc i was bored.
the romance was a meh for me, i feel like the characters didn’t have that much chemistry.
would i recommend this book?
if you’re either under the age of 13 or don’t care about bad writing and clunky dialogue then sure. otherwise? i’d say pass on this one.

Some Like it Scot by Pepper Basham is an upcoming title from the author of the Skymar Series (Authentically, Izzy, Positively, Penelope, and Loyally, Luke). She nails the Highlands setting and I had a lot of fun reading about Katie’s travel misadventures. It is a Christian romance so the romance it is not as hot as the punny title implies. There’s a light sprinkling of faith throughout the first half (ex: Graeme takes notice of Katie’s mention of prayer in one scene) but it plays a much more significant role in the second half of the book. Some Like it Scot a slow-burn romance and the attraction doesn’t really spark until the halfway mark. I enjoyed the fact that both MCs are tall and equally matched in wit! Their banter was playful and enjoyable to read. I struggled with the Edwardian experience storyline. Other than Katie’s nemesis, Mark, and Graeme’s mum, I found the other characters to be forgettable. While this book was a little slow for me, it was really charming story that I might recommend to someone looking to read a faith-based romance in a Scottish setting!

Some Like It Scot is a cute book with a fun cast of characters and cozy descriptions of Scotland.
The Scottish slang in the dialog seems forced and a bit disingenuous.
About halfway through the book religion is suddenly thrown out there and it doesn't flow into the story well and really sticks out in a bad way.
Overall I liked the cozy feelings of found family but was put off by the bursts of religion and the awkward speech.

Pepper Basham is the queen of feel good rom-coms. I always know I'm going to come away from her books smiling. Some Like it Scot has it all, a fun Scottish setting, a satisfying grumpy/sunshine trope, and the laugh-out-loud moments that leave you feeling all warm and fuzzy inside.
The main character, Katie Campbell, is such a fun character who is both funny and always falling into mishaps. Graeme is stoic and more reserved, but with intriguing layers to him. A lot of times rom-coms can be light and fluffy but lacking depth to them. I really enjoyed the depth of this novel, Pepper Basham struck just the right balance between fun and engaging, while also leaving you something deeper to ponder.
Highly recommend, one that I will be buying a paperback copy of for my keeper shelf!

This book was such a delightful read! From the very first page, I found myself completely immersed in the story. The writing was so approachable and warm, making it easy to connect with the characters and the plot. I loved how the book felt both inviting and engaging, without ever being too complex or hard to follow. It was just the right mix of comfort and intrigue, and I truly enjoyed every moment of it. It’s a wonderful read that I’d happily recommend to anyone looking for a heartwarming escape!

I really enjoyed this book! It was a quick read and a good clean Christian romance. Katie Campbell is a popular travel writer, and her social media fans follow her on her misadventures as she travels around the world. She winds up in Scotland for an extended stay at a manor house for an Edwardian Experience. Trouble seems to follow Katie around, but Graeme Mackerrow seems to be at the right places at the right times to help save her. The book has loveable characters such as Mirren, Lachlan, and the book club/stitching ladies. After years of traveling and not feeling like she has much of a home anywhere, Katie starts to ponder if Mull is the place she feels most at home.
I love the sunshine/grumpy clean romance and the nods to the Outlander series as well as Hallmark movies. I think this book would make for a great Hallmark movie! I loved the vivid description of Scotland and the use of Scottish words too. This book was a good mixture of humor, introspection, and how people cope with family deaths and other dynamics.

3 reasons I enjoy Pepper Basham’s contemporary romances:
1. They’re funny without being silly
2. The characters are interesting and unique
3. Faith plays an intrinsic role
I could think of more, but that’s a good start, and they represent why I asked for an ARC of Some Like It Scot.
Let’s start with: I loved this story. The heroine, Katie Campbell, is a 6’1″ American travel writer who’s continually bumbling into scrapes. This allows the rom com part of the story a natural flow. She’s made an entire brand around being Miss Adventure, and three weeks in Scotland ensconced in an ancestral manor house for an “Edwardian Experience” provides plenty of scope for adventure (of the mis kind and other). Start with her not fitting the period gowns provided for her due to her height and curves, and following on with a near drowning (the not-so-funny part), facing her greatest fear (sheep — or is it highland cows?) and Katie is bumbling from one escapade to the next.
Graeme MacKerrow, the hero of the story, is focused on tradition and family. His twin sister has passed on, and Graeme has custody of his precocious young nephew, Lachlan, who worms his way into Katie’s heart nearly immediately. Graeme’s parents and brothers are also very involved in each other’s lives, and his mom takes Katie under her wing when Katie stumbles into her bookshop during a knitting and book club meeting.
Katie’s never felt at home anywhere since her grandparents’ deaths years ago, despite having inherited their North Carolina home. But with all her traveling, is she actually running FROM something or TO something? She would have said “neither,” but it becomes apparent that is not quite so. The “Edwardian Experience” is a three-week stint, and then Katie will be moving on. But for the first time in her life, she wonders if home is perhaps not a place, but a person, and if her person just might be Graeme.
I haven’t mentioned all the times Graeme saves her from one calamity after the other, each humorous and charming, but also forging a relationship with every misadventure. I truly gave a sigh as I turned the last page, and I sincerely hope Graeme’s two brothers get their own stories down the road. I could do with another armchair visit to Scotland with Pepper Basham!
If you enjoy the kinds of stories I do, sweet and funny yet deep, I recommend you pick up a copy of Some Like It Scot. It releases April 8, 2025.
I requested an ARC (advanced reader copy) from Netgalley.

Thank you so much to Thomas Nelson for an early copy of Some Like it Scot! 💖
Some Like it Scot is an unbelievably adorable rom-com that has a beautiful balance of absolutely goofy moments but also serious topics/themes and I think it's so amazing! This book has Katie, an almost travel writer, American, Bridget Jones type character who brings so much comedic relief! When she goes to Scotland, she meets Graeme, a hot, handy, Scotsman who is the grumpy to Katie's sunshine! There's a bit of an element of enemies to lovers, opposites attract, slow burn, and more!
I really enjoyed this book and it brought exactly what I wanted to the table! I've read a couple Scottish romances lately that kind of fell flat because there was just too much depth and kind of personal growth elements that can drag a rom-com into women's fiction territory and for some reason, this book had the perfect balance and while it deals with elements of grief for both of the main characters, it still feels like a bright, lighthearted, rom-com! I really loved this book and hope I can find some more like it!💞

I loved the setting and the journey the FMC character goes on. I loved the wit and humor! The imagery was everything, I felt like I was really there! Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for an advanced copy. I will be purchasing this for my classroom library!

I didn’t catch that this was a Christian book and that’s on me. Barring the religious overtones it was still just an okay read for me. It started slow and I had a hard time getting invested in the love story — which, for a romance, is a necessity. I loved the setting and Graeme’s mom though! And the cast of characters was interesting enough to somewhat makeup for the lukewarm slow burn.

Thanks to NetGalley, the publisher, and the author for the opportunity to read an advance copy of this book.
Well, I did it again. I accidentally requested an ARC of a Christian title. When will I learn to pay more attention? This can't possibly be labeled "romance" when there isn't any. Until they kiss (and only kiss) almost at the end of the book, they might as well be siblings. I did make it to the end of this one but I skimmed a lot to get through it. The puns put me right off. I almost hurt myself rolling my eyes. Both stars are for the Scotland setting.

This has been one of my favorites I’ve read this year! I love the wholesomeness of this story. I loved both of these characters so much, and Pepper did such a beautiful job just building these characters. We regularly go to Scotland too, and it made me love it even more. I just loved how loveable Katie was especially, her humility and easy-going way of living. She really shows how to not take life too seriously, and make lemonade out of lemons. Graeme was also a loveable character, and the descriptions of him definitely makes a girl swoon!
Overall, I absolutely loved this book and highly recommend.
(Posting on Instagram soon too so will be tagged in that)

I have read a few books by this author now and can say that I am looking forward to what other books she has and will bring out.
This is a well written and structured book. It is funny. I enjoyed it and recommend others to read it. You can see that there has been real attention to the content and research into the Scottish lifestyle. It makes me curious to visit it myself.

I loved this book and this romance! I love when characters have depth to them and these two definitely did. Such a great read!

3.5 stars
Thank you to Thomas Nelson Fiction and NetGally for the chance to read this novel in advance!
I adored this romance’s unique touch. Its uniqueness was weaved into the story, its humour and its setting and language with an effortless touch. It had heartwarming characters and scenes and a swoon worthy love interest and a deeply relatable main character.
While I loved the Scottish touch, it to some point felt almost overwhelming in its speech. Perhaps it touched on stereotypes a little too intensely, though it did add to its charm and really got me into the setting.
Personally, the religious motivations the characters explore/display in the last half of the book came a little bit out of nowhere and felt slightly forced, though perhaps that was just me. I also felt that the ending was a little rushed and fast-paced.
Overall, I very much enjoyed this read for its uniqueness and its humour. The romance was sweet and lovely, but didn’t get my heart beating much faster.
Also… lowkey wish we could have seen Mark get his revenge because I disliked him so deeply!!

Thank you to Net Galley and Thomas Nelson Fiction for giving me the opportunity to read and review this ARC! This was my first read by Pepper Basham. I didn’t dislike it and I didn’t love it. I was bored throughout the book but towards the end I was getting more interested and I loved the ending. This was my first Christian romance and I would love to read more! I loved how it talked about faith. I really liked the setting of this book and I did love the characters. I just think it was a super slow burn. I def would like to read more by Pepper Basham! definitely read this if you like grumpy/sunshine, travel, and clean romance! This book is available April 8th!!
