This book has reignited my desire to visit Scotland 😍 Who’s to say I won’t meet my own hot Scot??

*is cringing so hard at that but readers will get it*

Pepper Basham is very quickly becoming a favourite author 😆

'Some Like it Scot' follows Miss Adventure, an endearingly hilarious travel writer, as she takes part in an immersive historical experience (think 'Austenland' meets 'Downton Abbey') but gets way more than she bargained for. I loved joining Katie and Graeme as they navigated the major crossroads in their lives, learning to live after loss, fearing to dream for the future, and secretly hoping for love along the way. Get ready to be immersed in this Scottish adventure!

If you enjoy reading clean contemporary romance novels, then I recommend this book to you! Pepper Basham’s writing style pulls me in like a light-hearted romcom and keeps me engaged with dynamic characters and a rich story.

Special thanks to the Publisher, Thomas Nelson Fiction, and Net Galley for a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

This is a sweet and clean romcom set in the beautiful land of Scotland. I thought the author did a wonderful job describing the countryside and her people and culture. While reading this novel, I felt like I traveled to Scotland. The characters were interesting and quirky but each added a fun element to the storyline. Entertaining and engaging read.

Thank you, NetGalley, for the opportunity to review this book and share my honest opinion.

I really wanted to enjoy this book. The description sounded fantastic, and I believe we need more Christian romances that gain popularity. Wholesome love stories are essential. While this book has a good story, I felt overwhelmed by the excessively detailed descriptions of everything surrounding the characters. This focus on description detracted from the unfolding love story. As a result, the pacing was slow, and I almost didn’t finish it.

This book was a sweet, light-hearted read just right for me at the time. I so enjoyed the 'MIss Adventures' Katie found herself in. And who doesn't love a grumpy, handsome Scot with a big heart? The humor in this book had me giggling from time to time. I LOVED the Clue comparison in this book. It was hilarious how the author likened each of the participants in the Edwardian experience to a Clue character.. I can well understand the Campbell reference. My husband's family is related to the Campbells and we've studied that history.

One of my favorite quote:
"Campbell?" His strawberry-blond brows shot high. "Well, no wonder ye dinnae know what you're doin'."

The romance... Ahhh. It was like a piece of chocolate cake. Delicious and completely satisfying.

The voice came just before the rest of him turned the corner of the room, towel over the shoulder of his T-shirtand a pair of jeans that was doing him all kinds of favors.

Highly recommend this book for a relaxing read by the fire.

In Some Like It Scot, Katie Campbell loves a good adventure. As a popular travel writer and social media darling, she’s navigated countless escapades around the globe, earning her the playful nickname “Miss Adventure.” Her latest journey takes her to Scotland—the land of her ancestors—where she dives into an Edwardian experience, explores a charming Scottish village, befriends an impish little boy, and crosses paths with a grumpy Scotsman she can’t help but think of as the “Hot Scot.” What could possibly go wrong?

Graeme MacKerrow has reluctantly rented out his ancestral home to a wealthy family looking to recreate an Edwardian experience. He despises the attention of the press but needs the money to restore his family estate to its former glory. He finds it impossible to ignore Katie, especially after she literally falls on him—followed by every other mishap she brings into his life. There’s something undeniably captivating about her, even though her wanderlust heart clashes with his dreams of a rooted life. Will they find a way to bridge their differences and create something lasting together?

Pepper Basham, you’ve done it again! You made me laugh, swoon, and blink back tears. As a fellow tall lady, I fell in love with Katie and her deep longing for love and a place to call home. I felt like I was right there with her, exploring Scotland and experiencing every magical moment. This story was beautifully written, laugh-out-loud funny, and an absolute delight to read. I’m truly sad to say goodbye to Katie and Graeme—I could follow their adventures forever. What a fantastic book! Highly recommend!

Start Rating: 4/5
Publish Date: 8th April 2025

I was so intrigued by the premise of Some Like It Scot that I was absolutely thrilled to be approved for an ARC! And let me tell you, it did not disappoint✨

From the moment Graeme appeared on the page, I was hooked. His brooding, towering 6-foot-something frame and his gruff charm instantly won me over. The banter between him and Katie? Chef’s kiss 😙🤌

Graeme is such a layered character, and reading his perspective throughout the book was a joy. But honestly, the best part of Graeme wasn’t just him—it was his family. I fell head over heels for them too🥺 They were warm, witty, and full of life, and all I wanted was to hang out with them and have a cuppa (preferably in a cozy Scottish kitchen)💖

Katie was a character I deeply connected with. She’s someone who loves listening to stories, encourages others, and has an adventurous spirit—even if that spirit somehow attracts all kinds of crazy animals! For anyone who’s ever felt like they don’t quite belong, who struggles with self-image, or has dealt with dysfunctional family dynamics, Katie is a kindred spirit⭐️❤️

the quotes! This book is filled with gems, but two of my absolute favorites were: “My Morning as an Edwardian Burrito” and “I was under the influence of hot Scotness . . . or Scot hotness.”🔥🫠

My favorite scene? The dinner disaster. No spoilers here, but trust me, it’s fantastic!!

If you love stories set in Scotland, hilarious yet relatable characters, and a guaranteed happily-ever-after, Some Like It Scot needs to be on your TBR. This was my first book by this author, but it’s safe to say it won’t be my last 🫶🏼

Being Scottish I do enjoy reading books that are set in Scotland.

This was an easy and fun read. The banter between the main characters was awesome and comical at times. Also a very cute romance.

The book also has travel, lore and as I said before, banter 😂

Thank you to Netgalley and the author for the eARC

What a fun story! I have recently discovered this Author, and I truly enjoy her writing. She makes me smile and laugh!

Katie is a travel writer and a social media personality. Her personal life history is less than stellar, with some dysfunctional parental relationships. Her most solid relationships were with her grandparents, who have passed, and her brother.

Her new assignment is to Scotland, the land of her grandparents. As she discovers the beauty of the land, and the feeling of home the people show her, plans and life goals seem to change.

Graeme is the "hot scot" Katie mentions in her blog. He has had some major losses in his life and has put his own desires behind him in order to care for his family. Can this crazy American help him heal?

The characters are well written, the description of the landscapes makes me want to take a trip to Scotland, and this is an all around fun read!

Not for me, though it might be for others.

The Scotland setting caught my eye and the cover was adorable, but the writing was a little stiff and once the romance turned religious, it went downhill for me pretty quickly.

No kiss til 83% and he fell in love with her immediately after (??). A little too predictable and a lack of foreshadowing also contributed to my growing disinterest.

If you’re looking for a completely closed-door, religious based romance, this might be for you, but I definitely felt misled by the synopsis.

Some like it Scot was my cozy read of the quarter. It's got everything I want in a clean and inspirational feel-good rom-com. Adorable characters, a swoony setting, and hilarious misadventures along the way. I loved that Miss Adventure is an accident-prone travel writer, and I totally wanted to go to Scotland for the Edwardian experience myself. Basham has done it again and delivered an unputdownable rom-com that leaves readers at once satisfied and longing for more. Some Like It Scot is a highlight read of the year!

Thank you NetGalley and Thomas Nelson for sending this book for review consideration. All opinions are my own.

Beautiful descriptions of the Scottish countryside, and written to where you could hear the Scottish accent come through is already off to a winning start. Great growth for both male and female leads and the fun misadventures that lead the way in the romcom. It had so many fun elements and pieces of the story it was fabulous the whole way through. Can't wait to read more from Basham!

I don't think I was the target audience of the book, so it was fairly daunting to finish it. The book follows Katie, who after a devastating loss in her family, ends up traveling the world in search of adventures and stories and ends up falling in love and finding her missing roots in Scottland.

Things I really enjoyed in this book: the puns were ON POINT, there was barely any love triangle/3rd person meddling and fairly wholesome minor characters.

Now for the ICKS: It felt like Katie's self-esteem issues blew up in the 2nd half of the book to the point where almost every mention of the "hot Scot" also included some whiny version of "how can someone like him like someone as HIDEOUS AS ME??" (Might not have actually been whiny but I couldn't stop myself from reading it that way.)

The book also felt like it was trying to tackle too many issues while not resolving any of them. Everything from grief, lack of parental support, job struggles, self-image and worth struggles, past failed relationships, money issues, unresolved guilt, finding your place in the world and falling in love. And all of them just kind of got swept under the rug after one conversation with another character but not enough time dedicated to make them feel resolved.

Roughly 60% into the book I realized this was a more modest Christian based book, which is fine but there was no mention of this in the synopsis or about the author section.

I think the story would have evolved better if we stayed in the manor house for the entire trip and just focused on the shenanigans around the Edwardian Experience. That way we would have gotten more interactions with the two main characters that felt more authentic and cut down on half the side characters. Between the manor group, the book club and both families there were just too many names and personalities to keep track of and most of them were pretty bland or added nothing to the story.

Thank you NetGalley and Thomas Nelson Publishing for the ARC in exchange for my honest opinions.

Katie Campbell has made a name for herself as “Miss Adventure.” She is a travel writer and podcaster who has traveled the world while entertaining her followers with her “misadventures.”
This delightful story takes Katie to Scotland to participate in a three-week “Edwardian Experience,” including period costumes and traditional food from that time. It also showcases the fine ancestral home known as Craighill, currently owned by Graeme MacKerrow. Graeme is a tall, handsome Scot who, since the death of his sister, has taken on the responsibility of raising his young nephew and rarely ventures far from home. Graeme’s priorities are his family and home.
Katie seems to be accident-prone wherever she is, which only endears her more to her loyal followers. Besides having striking red hair, she is also 6’1”, making her stand out. Much to Graeme’s dismay, he has taken notice of her.
This story has the most delightful characters. I particularly loved Graeme’s mother, who I often felt like sharing a cup of tea with. Katie is also drawn to Graeme’s family, as it is so unlike her own back in America. The story takes the reader on a wild ride as Katie encounters a number of misadventures, including landing on a ledge after accidentally falling over the edge of a cliff.
Pepper Basham is a gifted storyteller who weaves humor, seriousness, romance, and faith into one captivating, delightful story.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. All comments and opinions are my own.

Some Like It Scot by Pepper Basham was an enjoyable swoon-worthy read for those of us who like Scotsmen.

Katie Campbell is a popular travel writer who visits Scotland as part of a three-week Edwardian Immersion Tour. Katie is known as Miss Adventure. . .which is somewhat a play on words as she often gets herself into scrapes or "misadventures." Graeme MacKerrow is in the just the right place at the right time to be a part of Katie's first misadventure in Scotland. From that moment on, the relationship is off to a fun start.

I so enjoyed getting to know Graeme (Pronounced Gray-ham) and his family through the eyes of Katie. I could relate to how she was drawn to his warm and caring family. I also loved getting to know Katie. Both were fun characters. I enjoyed how they shared humor and how they got to know each other through the book. There were also some deliciously romantic moments that filled my starry-eyed heart.

As I read Some Like It Scot, my heart also went out to Katie as I got to know her struggles behind her smiles and humor and why she chose a life of travel. Katie's family faced a real challenge when her sister passed away. After that happened, the real dysfunction of her family came through in a way that left Katie's heart wounded and shut away. I could really relate to Katie as I come from a family with similar issues but for different reasons. I also have a Scottish grandfather that I was close to, like Katie, so I related there as well. There is plenty of tea drinking in the book and my Scottish grandfather also started me drinking tea when I was a little girl. I loved hearing Katie talk about her Scottish grandparents back home in North Carolina and how they helped her in her difficult times and showed her the love she didn't get in her family of origin. There was so much depth in that part of the story that I could relate to. Katie and Graeme also connected over loss as Graeme also had a sister pass away a few years ago in the story.

I enjoyed the cast of characters in Some Like it Scot, from the other writers in the Edwardian experience to Graeme's family and friends in Scotland and Katie's brothers back home in the States. All in all, this was an especially enjoyable read for me. I like how this author shows empathy for those who are hurting through her characters. I laughed and I teared up in this book.

I so appreciate receiving an early copy of this book through NetGalley and the publisher. All opinions within this review are my own.

Graeme & Katie

Edwardian Experience in Scotland… complete with a Hot Scot!? Sign Katie up! Ok, she didn’t realize there would be a Hot Scot included… but God knew she needed one. One that would give her that life line, that rope that she didn’t know she needed. One that would grow her faith, and at the same time heal some of the hurts tucked deep in her heart.

Katie and Graeme’s story is a witty, pun filled story. Katie is used to turning a phrase and using humor to hide her insecurities. A perfect time for God to step in and use those misadventures. I really loved the elements of faith and growth in this one.

This is a romantic story. And a comedy. But it’s so much more. The depth of the characters and the lessons they learned will cause the reader to reflect on their own life and faith. You don’t want to miss the chance to read this one!

This is a book that even Mr. Collins would read, particularly chapter 19, and its mention of fine closets.

Thank you to NetGalley and Thomas Nelson for the chance to read and review early. And thanks Pepper for the fantastic adventure!

Not to be dramatic, but I absolutely loved this book so much so that I read it twice because I simply could not get enough of it. This book was fun, flirty, and all levels of cute. It was such a fun and quick read that I literally needed to read it at least twice just so I could enjoy it and get the full effect of how much fun it was!

I must be in my Scottish era, because this book literally spurred me on to read more like this!

Thank you NetGalley for an eARC!

What a fun, enjoyable read with such a relatable FMC that instantly makes you feel like you found your long lost friend! Katie was such a character that made you feel normalized for your fears, struggles and passions that come with adulthood. And the hot scot?! The perfect, 6ft grumpy brooding man that has the banter, the perfect family the wraps you up in their joy immediately and protection immediately. This story had the banter, the swoon, the slow burn romance that sucks you in, while having you rooting for them the whole time.

I was really excited to start reading this but it fell a bit flat for me. The story felt a a bit slow, and it didn't really grab my attention like I hoped it would. I didn't love the constant comments about Katie's body/height. It was equally as annoying as when an author repeatedly emphasizes that a FMC is just so tiny and small.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing this e-arc in exchange for my honest review!
