Another wonderful and clean romance from Pepper Basham! This story centers around travel journalist Katie Campbell, whose career success has been made largely due to her proclivity for MISadventure on her travels. She currently finds herself in Scotland, to spend 3 weeks living in an "Edwardian Experience" (literally, learning to live, dress, eat, dance etc like they did in Edwardian times). She quickly runs into the MMC - Graeme and their relationship gets off to a rocky start.

This is a sunshine/grumpy romance that will make you laugh. It will also pull on your heartstrings as both MCs are suffering through grief caused by deaths of siblings. This story is full of hope, witty banter, gorgeous descriptions of Scotland, swoony moments and of course love. I highly recommend it!

Okay toss in Scotland, a large family, a hot Scot Graeme, a run from everything heroine Katie, and you get this book. It was okay, there were many characters, some preachy prose and something that just did not click for me.

Katie is a recognized travel writer and uses her frequent clumsiness and accidents to her advantage, describing her mishaps humorously as MisAdventure. Underneath her moving attention away from herself, she is someone who is without a truly loving home. A "hot Scot" comes to her rescue several time during her latest assignment in Scotland, to her chagrin. The last part of the book is pure gold, with insights, faith, love and affirmation. You might discover your own pot of gold, with a little help from the fairies, in this book!

I have never read a book by this author that I did not love!

I loved Some Like It Scot by Pepper Basham. It is a definite reread for me. Katie and Graeme are loveable characters that I enjoyed getting to meet, and Scotland is now a place I NEED to travel to.

Okay, so the plot of this book sounded so interesting that I was very excited to read it and built up so many expectations and initially, the book was fun to read but then the excessive detailing about the surroundings and constant introduction of characters left and right just got too much for me. After the first few chapters, everything felt chaotic and while I liked the banter between Katie & Graeme, I felt like they barely had spent any time together because all the space was occupied by the side characters. I was expecting a cute rom com but this book was more about Katie's self discovery and growth. I liked some side characters like Lachlan and Mirren but apart from them, there were so many side characters that it was hard for me to keep track of them. The book started out well but then everything felt too much and I lost interest tbh.

Some Like It Scot is a sweet story about love, loss, and belonging.

Katie and Graeme were lovely and the side characters, particularly Graeme’s family , were just delightful. The dialogue was witty and the descriptions of the region by the author painted a vivid picture. It was rewarding to watch both MC’s growth throughout the book. It’s very wholesome, with strong religious themes, but didn’t feel preachy. Overall an enjoyable read.

Pepper Basham displays her mastery over rom-com in Some Like it Scot!! Katie is such a delightful character. I love her sense of humor, including the abundance of puns, her ability to laugh at herself and her misadventures that are guaranteed to generate some belly laughs. While she has some pain to work through in order to quit running, watching her run in the process was downright comical. Graeme is exactly what I would expect in a hero set in Scotland. Broody, talented, passionate, quick witted, and willing to go to any length to protect those he loves. I love his propensity for stories and his charming brogue (yes, you can hear it loud and clear in the writing). I adored the side characters, especially Lachlan, who will just grab your heart from the start. I fell in love with telling of the land and the legends that abound. There is depth in the midst of the humor and romance, and I absolutely adored this book.

This book will instantly pull you in and make you feel right at home in the quaint Scottish village setting. It is full of AMAZING characters, breathtaking locations, local lore and legends, humor and puns, books, travel, laughter and tears, family, and so so so much more. The book has fun grumpy sunshine and endearing found family tropes.

I have never related to a character more in my life than I do with Katie. If you can have a kindred spirit in a book, then Katie would definitely be mine because I see so much of myself in her. Katie’s life is full of mishaps, family issues, fear of commitment, and longing for “home”. Not just any home though, but one where she is seen and loved for who she is and not who people want or think she should be. Then there is Graeme, the “Hot Scot”. He has an amazing family, who instantly welcomes Katie in, and she has no idea how to handle that. Graeme has been hurt in the past and has a major fear of commitment, but he can’t help falling for Katie and feeling a need to protect her...from herself if nothing else. This is a book you won’t want to put down and I highly recommend it.

My favorite thing about Pepper Basham's contemporary books is her voice. It is genuine, witty, and engaging. Her characters in Some Like It Scot drew me in from the first page. She was someone I wanted to be friends with and walk alongside her through the journey. It was extra awesome to be set in Scotland.

Where she quite literally falls into a grumpy hot scot who may just change her perspective on her former ideals forever. Choosing between a life as a travel writer or settling down. What will Katie Campbell choose?

This was my first Pepper Basham book and I have to say it was such a fun read! Katie is the clumsy main character that had all these ridiculous but humorous stories about her misadventures. I was so intrigues with the tiny snippets of her misadventures and how she used those to make a name for herself. She was also a well drawn out character that wasn't just surface level. She had a depth to her that was intriguing and made me want to know more about her and her past just as much as Graeme did. She hid her past behind a mask of jokes and laughter which I believe a lot of women can relate to. Then there was Graeme, who started out as big ole grump who wanted nothing to do with an American travel writer due to his own past. However, the way Katie brought the real him out was just perfect. Together they faced their dark pasts in a beautiful way and overcame obstacles that they didn't want to face or overcome by themselves. With all this being said, Pepper Basham had a way of weaving darker topics into this lighthearted rom com that was full of cute puns, too many near death experiences, a hot scot, and faith that will warm your heart.

This book is filled with witty banter, fun adventures, and humorous occurrences. I loved the Scotland setting and getting to meet a whole host of wonderfully charming characters. For some reason, I was never fully hooked or invested, but this could be just the book for you if you love contemporary rom coms.

Some Like It Scot was a fun read. Katie, the protagonist, is funny and very relateable for those of us who might be the teensiest bit clumsy. I liked the description of her work. A hot Scot is always a plus, the Edwardian experience was an interesting and different idea which added to the complexity of chaos Katie got herself into. The Christian aspect often seemed forced or an afterthought, and were I the editor I'd have edited most of it right out. The non-spicy nature of the romance will be an added appeal to many readers.

What an adventure! I was whisked away to the lush countryside of my ancestors’ homeland. Scotland is near and dear to me as my paternal grandmother is Scottish and I found connection to Katie as my 2nd great-grandmother is a Scottish “Campbell.”

I fell in love immediately with the grumpy Scotsman and American ray of sunshine with a tendency for mishaps.

What’s not to love about Graeme? He’s a gruff yet gentle Scottish giant who loves his family and his home deeply. He’s still grieving and he’s trying to hold onto everything he loves.

Katie has never really felt a belonging to anyone or anyplace, except for her grandparents, specifically her grandfather. She feels like an outcast. Never measuring up. Traveling for work helps her feel less alone. Running from her feelings and memories of the past. She’s been fine until she meets the quirky and lovable people on the Isle of Mull, Scotland and she realizes she wants to belong.

I adored Katie’s personality. Her quick wit, her kindness, and her mishaps made her so endearing.

There were so many delightful scenes, hilarious near-disasters, and tender moments.

Delightful and colorful townsfolk, Scottish folklore, beautiful countryside, witty banter, laughs, swoony chemistry, and some hard hitting topics. This was a charming and endearing story that struck my heart. I stayed up way too late not wanting to leave these characters.

I read for the vibes. I don’t read nonfiction and all I ask of a book is that it occupies my mind and grabs my attention.
I saw the cover of this book on NetGalley and decided I could use a little mental vacation to Scotland with a hunky Highlander. I was expecting a marshmallow story. A tex mex meal, if you will. Mexican food, but not, if you know what I mean. I was pleasantly surprised that this author wrote with depth and did her research into the Scottish dialect and geography. I actually felt like I was getting a glimpse of the culture in Scotland. It felt authentic. But I’ve never been to Scotland so there’s that.
The FMC and MMC had chemistry and the absurdity of a lot of the “misadventures” kept me giggling. I thoroughly enjoyed this hallmark movie of a novel!

A sweet read, filled with misadventures and Scotland.
Though marketed as a rom com, I felt like this read more like a lighthearted contemporary romance (yes I do believe there is a difference).
This book is brimming with plenty of lore and atmosphere of Scotland.
The romance reads as a slow burn and took a while to get going. However once it got going it was really sweet and sprinkled with depth and faith.
The book is equally about the characters as well as the Scotland setting.
It felt like it took me a while to get into the story but I enjoyed the journey.
If you enjoyed Leap year and Austeland this book feels like a mashup between the two.

This book was an adorable, heart warming read. And made me long for the gorgeous views in the Highlands.

Katie is a travel writer who goes to Scotland for a 3 week immersive Edwardian experience, clothing and all. While there she learns that “strings attached” may not be the worst thing in the world and that family doesn’t always have to be blood.

Graeme and Katie have an amazing story to tell together, and Pepper Basham has a beautiful way of telling it to us. And who wouldn’t want a hot Scot to rescue them from their “miss adventures”?

This was a cute, kitschy, typical cozy romance. I love all things Scotland so that was a fun added bonus. The story is very typical right from the beginning but if you’re a common devourer of cozy romance, you know what you’re getting into. Cute. Cozy. Great characters. It does get a little “churchy” mid way, not for me but also not over done.

The ending was so good; I cried. Thoroughly entertaining and engaging story about a travel writer who is good at finding trouble and a woodworker/artist who keeps coming to her rescuing despite his reluctance to see himself as a hero. Loved the Scottish setting and wonderful MacKerrow family.

I utterly adored this read! Pepper Basham is one of my go-to authors when I need a laugh, and/or a book I know I'll enjoy--and this one is both.

I definitely want to go back to Scotland now, and visit Mull (and Iona)--I've never been to the islands, though I've been to the coast a fair bit, and Basham did a great job capturing life and livelihood across the northern pond.

The characters are hilarious and endearing (except for Mark, haha), and both MCs grow and change over the course of the read. Absolutely recommended!
