I am very grateful to have received a compliantly copy of this book!

Some Like It Scot is a cozy read when you need something quick and easy to get out of a book rut! The main character, Katie is so relatable and quirky with a deeper side to her. Watching her fall in love with Scotland (and maybe even a Scottish love interest?!) was a fun journey that makes you want to root for happiness.

Look, I wanted to love this. A clumsy American travel writer and a grumpy Scotsman? Sign me up. But the book ended up feeling ... technically fine, but not quite my cup of tea.

What I liked: The setting is gorgeous. Basham paints Scotland so well that I was googling flights. Katie’s misadventures are usually charming (if a little over-the-top), and Graeme has his moments—especially when he’s scowling in a kilt.

But I was not comfortable with the amount of religious content. And there is just a lot of talking vs. things actually happening. And while the jealous co-worker and snooty hosts were set up as obstacles, they weren't really villains. Missed opportunity for drama!

Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC. No kilts were harmed in the writing of this review.

This is a lot of fun and like most Basham books I read it with a big smile on my face. Graeme and Katie's story is lovely to read. She is the clumsy person who is forever getting into some sort of misadventure and often requires her to be rescued. Graeme, is the chivalrous white knight (he does have a white horse BTW) who delights in being the rescuer. They're drawn together through their humour; their puns bounce off each other very easily.

Like all good romances, they both have backstories that require discovering as they provide a depth to the characters and through the other, enable acceptance and healing. Basham weaves the serious elements of these backstories through their budding acquaintance and I appreciated the tenderness by which she managed them. I suspect one of them may have been drawn from her own story of recent loss of a much loved sibling and it was lovely how Graeme's sister was such a positive presence within his family.

Little Lachlan and Wedge, his four-legged companion were delights. Katie's interactions with them were very special as was Graeme's gentleness towards his 'adopted' son.

And Scotland! Wow. We got a real sense of the place, and Basham did a great job with the dialect as much of the dialogue used the Scottish vernacular.

Like other reviewers have written, I didn't really want this story to end. Katie and Graeme are such a fun couple and I expect their 'forever after' will be as hilarious, generous and magical as the season experienced in this story.

I feel blessed to have received an advance ebook copy from the publisher via NetGalley. However, this has had no bearing on my review.

I think I might have been the wrong reader for this. To me, it felt far too slow, and I was very put off by how unexpectedly and weirdly religious it was. I also felt as though several of the core storylines set up in the first half didn’t get any real resolution (the social media award conflict, the whole Edwardian experience, the way the people leading the castle were kind of horrible and disrespected the locals, the daughter hungry for a husband, etc.). Not for me, but your mileage may vary.

I loved Some Like It Scot and stayed up way too late finishing it this morning!! I love Scotland and have some Scottish ancestry so that made the book more special for me. My heart went out to Katie who has never felt like she fit in with her parents' life. Pepper Basham is one of my favorite authors and did a wonderful job writing Some Like It Scot! I may have shed some tears as well as having a few chuckles as Katie, a travel writer and podcaster, visits Scotland and encounters "a hot Scot"! You will not want to miss this book! I received a complimentary advance e-book from the author and NetGalley. This is my honest opinion.

This was such a fun read! I’ll admit it took me a bit to get into (a me problem, not a book problem) but once I did I adored this story! Katie is a clutzy travel writer chronicling her adventures across the globe who meets her match in Graeme, a Scottish woodworker who has his own reasons for sticking close to home. I loved how this book explored each character’s grappling with grief and how that impacts their choices in both life and love.

This book is full of sweet moments and lots of humor. The misadventures turned Katie into quite the American damsel and I loved how those mishaps led to her connection with Graeme. It felt immersive and I want to visit this village and have tea with all the side characters! This would make a great summer read if you’re wanting a bookish escape to Scotland and to meet characters exploring their own growth along the way 🏴

This was a cute RomCom set on Scotland, full of local legends, references to Scottish foods, and braw Scotsmen. The book was a little cheesy, with an over-reliance on Scottish slang rarely used. It also felt very contrived at times. For instance, the main character didn’t want to stay home and works as a travel writing but was left a farm by her grandparents. Meanwhile, her brother is struggling to support his family in the city, and he always loved the farm. Why was she left the farm then? Why not have her brother move there from the beginning? Details like this pulled me out of the book and made me not want to go back to it.

Some Like It Scot is a cozy, heartwarming romance set in the Scottish Highlands, blending travel, faith, and a slow-burn love story. I loved watching Katie, a globe-trotting travel writer, find an unexpected sense of home in a quirky Edwardian manor—and with a gruff Scotsman raising his nephew. The story weaves in themes of healing, trust, and spiritual grounding in a natural, meaningful way. Sweet, charming, and full of warmth, this book left me smiling. A lovely read for fans of feel-good romances with a dash of faith

Some Like It Scot is a feel-good, closed-door romance set in the beautiful Scottish Highlands. It follows a grumpy, guarded hero and a cheerful, slightly awkward heroine who meet in a charming and funny way. As the story unfolds, they slowly break down each other’s walls, leading to a sweet and satisfying love story.

What I loved most was how the romance felt genuine without being raunchy. It was lighthearted but still meaningful. I found myself really relating to the heroine- her feelings of brokenness and awkwardness, and her hope to be loved and cared for. It was touching to see that kind of love shown with such kindness.

About halfway through, I was already looking for more books by Pepper Basham. Her writing is warm, funny, and uplifting; perfect if you want a romance that leaves you smiling.

Highly recommend for fans of clean romance, “grumpy/sunshine” stories, or anyone needing a gentle, heartwarming escape.

I really wanted to like this book but I just couldn’t get into it. I was intrigued by the Scottish setting but the few chapters I read just felt a little too much like a Hallmark romance.

3.5 ⭐️

This book is a dual POV and follows Katie and Graeme. Katie is an American travel writer that became famous because of her “mis adventures” while traveling. Her job flew her to Scottland for a 3-week immersive Edwardian experience at Craighill House. There she meets Graeme, whose family owns the house where this experience is organized. At first, they do not like each other, but as they spend more and more time together, they start to realise that they have more in common that they originally thought.
This was a very sweet book, the characters were so well written, you could see their unique personalities trough the page. Katie was very funny, and her story was so emotional, well Graeme’s was sad as well. And I truly think that the way Pepper Basham weeds their pain with healing was beautiful.
I do have to admit that I wasn’t too crazy about the mentions of church, God, and religion. In full honesty, had I known it would be such a big importance in the book, I probably wouldn’t have picked it up. though I know this is a me problem as an atheist and that it would be a big thing for others, I wanted to be honest about it.
But yeah, I recommend this book if you like your romcom a little more sad and healing, or Scottish.

It's a fun, feel-good read that will leave you smiling long after you turn the last page.

Pepper Basham has done it again! I absolutely loved the Skymar series, so I was excited to read her latest romcom, and this one did NOT disappoint. From the setting to the characters and everything in between, Some Like It Scot is a must read!

One of the biggest things I loved about this book was the characters. I absolutely adored Katie. She was so genuine and relatable. I loved how she was honest about her insecurities (she’s a big girl while the rest of her family is petite), while also finding confidence in other areas of her life (like her writing). And then there’s Graeme. I loved him! The banter between Katie and Graeme was perfection. Their relationship will have you kicking your legs and giggling. This is the cutest grumpyxsunshine novel that I’ve read in a long time! It’s also a slow burn and just perfection.

Another thing I loved about about Some Like it Scot was the setting! The beautiful descriptions of Scotland had me feeling like I was there (and wishing I really was, lol). Pepper Basham always paints a picture with her writing and this one left me feeling very immersed in this story.

Overall, I absolutely adored this book! From the puns, humor, and wit, to the heartfelt moments and honest vulnerability, Some Like It Scot had it all and I loved every moment of this book. I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a fun, closed door, romance.

A charming, heartfelt adventure through Scotland’s past and present
🌿📚✨

This was an adorable read! Some Like it Scot swept me away to the windswept beauty of the Isle of Mull with humor, heart, and just the right touch of romance!
Katie Campbell is such a fun character, full of wit, vulnerability, and a sense of adventure that makes her journey feel authentic and engaging. I especially loved the “Miss Adventure” angle and how it brought her missteps to life in such a relatable way. 🌍✈️

The dual POV between Katie and Graham added depth and emotion, especially as they both wrestled with personal history and finding a place to belong. The chemistry was slow-burning but deeply satisfying, with moments that tugged at my heartstrings. 💕
The setting was so vivid!! Pepper Basham weaves in Scottish folklore, Edwardian charm, and spiritual themes with warmth and grace. I felt like I was right there in the misty hills, discovering ancestral secrets and healing old wounds. 🏰🌧️🧳

My only wish was for a bit more tension or unpredictability in the plot, but that didn’t take away from the overall joy of the journey.

Huge thanks to Thomas Nelson Publishing for gifting me a copy in exchange for my honest review.
I’ll definitely be reading more from Pepper Basham!

What a treat to read! The author had me laughing out loud and then considering how easily life can change from joy to grief. Katie Campbell is an internationally known travel writer with the tagline - Miss Adventure - a play on the many misadventures in which she finds herself. Her dream of writing middle reader books uses Katie on the Fly for all the adventures. Not yet published, but enjoyed by her brother’s children.

A trip to the Scottish Island of Mull to experience and provide publicity for Craighill and the Edwardian Experience allows her to explore a little of her ancestral roots. What she finds there gives her much to write about and even more to consider about a place to call home. The folklore, bits of Scottish wisdom and language brought the story to life. Will her faith and the faith of those she has learned to love help them to accept the past and look forward to the future God has planned? Time will tell.

This review is written in thanks for the opportunity given through Thomas Nelson and NetGalley. These impressions are my own and were in no way solicited.

This was another great book from Pepper Basham, Katie and Graeme are very cute together, and her misadventures make the story that much cuter. The puns help, too. If you want a sweet, clean, funny romance, this is a must-read!

This is my honest review of this new release.

Pepper Basham's book is not just a read but an experience. The characters, particularly Katie and Graeme, are so well-developed that they feel like real people. The narrators' skillful performance further enhances this immersive quality, making the book a must-read. I enjoy every minute of this book. The romance in this book is a chef's kiss. Reading this book has sparked a new interest in Scotland and the Edwardian era. The vivid descriptions of the Scottish landscape and the detailed portrayal of the Edwardian era's social norms and customs made me feel like I was living in that time and place. I was constantly rooting for Katie and Graeme. I especially was fond of Graeme's story and perspective because he's not your typical character; he's a character who sometimes appears a bit of a grump who, inside, is a caring individual. His caring nature was one of the reasons I fell in love with his character. At times, I saw Katie in me, which was truly inspiring and made the characters feel relatable. I can't stress this enough, but if you ever come across this book, then pick it up cause it truly is a fantastic book delivered so beautifully.

Note: If I could give this book six stars, I would cause it was just that good!
