This was an incredibly good read! The story was beautifully written and the characters were flushed out really well! Definitely worth the read!

As a classicist, no matter how many Ancient Greece/Greek mythology-based stories I read, I somehow always end up wanting more! I was thrilled when I saw that Daughter of Chaos was an Ancient Greek tale that interweaves Greek myth and life in Ancient Greece in some truly exciting ways. I thought that Daughter of Chaos had a slighlty fresh take on a Greek myth-based story and it felt like something I hadn't read before, which is hard to do. I appreciated the many placed we visited throughout the book and how much vibrancy was present in this world-building. I also really enjoyed the inclusion of the Herakles plotline, though I do feel like that since Herakles didn't show up until nearly halfway throguh the book, mentioning him int he synopsis was slightly spoiler-y, haha. Regardless, I still enjoyed this one and had a good time with all of the different plot beats I thought the author captured a lot of personalities and attitudes of the gods/demi-gods really well, which I always most appreciate and look for in these types fo books. I listened to the audiobook version of Daughter of Chaos and thought the narrator did a truly exceptional job! Overall, I had a really fun time with this one and I think anyone who enjoys Ancient Greece, Greek mythology, or any historical adventure would appreciate this one.

Set in a world where Greek gods rule with cruelty and mortals live in fear, this story follows Danae, a fisherman's daughter who discovers her connection to a mysterious prophecy. Her destiny is more significant than she ever imagined, and her journey is nothing short of epic as she teams up with Heracles to face gods, monsters, and the terrifying truths behind her powers.
It was slow at first, but the initial setup was essential. It laid a strong foundation for understanding Danae's character and made her growth throughout the story even more compelling. Her transformation from a simple island girl into a figure of resistance against the gods is an adventure. Once the action starts, it never stops. I hope we see the romantic subplot develop more in book two.
There are breathtaking depictions of the places Danae visits, each steeped in Greek mythology and seamlessly woven into the story. It does offer a fresh twist to familiar tales that readers will appreciate. What truly elevates the story is the tension and moral complexity. Her inner conflict adds emotional depth to the high-stakes action. This book is about an adventure, brimming with tension and plot twists, driven by an evolving heroine. I can't wait for the next book.
The audiobook was so engaging and I was totally absorbed into the story. I felt the tension and every emotion adding the the reader's experience.
I received an ARC audiobook for my honest review. Thank you, NetGalley

I received a free copy of Daughter of Chaos (The Dark Pantheon series) by A.S. Webb via NetGalley.
Overall, this book was a quick read/listen, that had enough action that kept me going through. Listening to this book I felt like I was watching the movie Jamaji. The story follows the female lead character start at point A, with the goal of getting to point C. However, during this journey, she goes to point Z, then M, followed by E and then L, which included the strangest creatures and weather. The different experiences the main character had included some relevant to the main plot, whereas others were fillers that did not add much, if any, to the main plot and were very random. A couple times I would start to lose interest in the story, quicken the pace of the reading of the book, and then slow it down when at a more meaningful part of the story started.
What I enjoyed:
- The Greek mythology and the author’s personal twist to that mythology.
- Strong female lead character that did not live the whole book in denial. A current trend in fantasy books that I hate reading about includes female leads who live the whole book in denial of the truth, despite clear evidence. This book includes some main character denial, but she works that through the more evidence she is presented.
- Ends on a cliffhanger.
- Multiple parts of the book are unanswered, which sets up well for a second book to answer the mysteries still left.
At this time, I am on the fence if I will read/listen to book two. I enjoy reading books that don’t have a linear path, yet this book was just so random, had too many coincidences that I rolled my eyes at, and I am not thinking much about it since I finished it.

Since I was a child, Greek mythology has been one of my obsessions. I'm always looking for retellings, reimaginings, and adaptations. Of all the reimaginings, I have to say Daughter of Chaos, the first book in The Dark Pantheon Trilogy by A.S. Webb, is my absolute favorite. Somehow, Webb managed to take myths I've been very familiar with for years and give them a fresh but authentic twist.
The story follows the new character Danae (not the one from myth) as she navigates her own Greek epic featuring gods, mysteries, a prophecy, and a number of figures from legend. As a fisherman's daughter destined for great things, Danae's story very much mirrors the Chosen One narrative. Rather than feeling formulaic, seeing this type of structure in a Greek epic was actually very interesting. The novel even points out these types of events usually happen to royalty rather than commoners.
The character writing, plotting, and world-building are incredibly strong, with all three elements perfectly balanced. Danae is an incredible protagonist—courageous, flawed, and deeply relatable. Her journey is as much about understanding her own strength as it is about unraveling the mysteries surrounding her. But what truly amazed me was how much care Webb poured into every single character, even the minor ones. Everyone felt like they had their own lives, desires, and arcs, which made the world feel incredibly vivid and alive.
I also have to gush about the prose. Webb's writing is lush and lyrical, capturing the grandeur and drama of mythology without ever feeling overwrought. The world-building is meticulous, blending myth and imagination seamlessly. From the towering halls of Olympus to the humble fishing villages, every setting was so richly described that I felt like I was there.
I loved every second of this book, and I'm already counting down the days until the sequel. If you're a fan of Greek mythology, character-driven stories, or epic fantasy, Daughter of Chaos is a must-read. Thank you to NetGalley and Harlequin Audio for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I wasn’t sure if Daughter of Chaos by A.S. Webb would just be a cheesy story or something I’d actually enjoy—but it ended up being the latter! I loved how so many mythological figures and stories were woven in without ever feeling forced. It didn’t feel like names were dropped just for the sake of it. Every character had their own purpose and story, so it never felt overwhelming.
The audiobook version was such a fun listen! I highly recommend this book, and I’m excited to see what’s next in the series. Big thanks to NetGalley and HarleyQuin Audiobooks for the advanced copy!

This was a fun take on Greek mythology.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher Harlequin Audio for this Audiobook.

When tragedy strikes and Danae is forced to leave her island home, she seeks answers but is found by destiny instead. 🍏
Things I loved:

🍃 fated yet unpredictable

Fans of Madeline Miller and R.F. Kuang should absolutely check out this fast-paced story! 💚

This book offers a captivating reimagining of Greek mythology, blending fantastical elements with rich character development. The plot is both engaging and unpredictable, especially with its unique twist on the pantheon. Instead of gods, the story introduces titans, adding an intriguing layer of complexity to the world. The revelation that Danae, the female main character, is also a titan—prophesied to bring about the downfall of the others—is a brilliant touch that adds depth to the narrative.
What really stood out to me was how multifaceted Danae is as a character. Her growth throughout the story keeps you invested, and I’m eager to see where her journey leads. The book does an excellent job of blending action with emotional development, leaving readers both satisfied and curious for what’s to come in the next installment.

Thank you to NetGalley and the author for my audio ARC of this book. I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed this story. If you like fantasy and Greek mythology, run don’t walk to get a copy of this book. The world building is fantastic and the sense of adventure urges you to keep reading. I had to know what happened next. I truly cannot wait for the next book to come out. I loved our main character. I don’t find her annoying at all. She’s young and naive and just trying to figure out who she is and what her part in this large story is. She learns how to do what it takes to keep herself alive as each new chapter unfolds. I really grew to love and root for her as the story kept going. I had a fantastic time with this audio and cannot recommend it enough.

Danae is a fisherman’s daughter who finds herself wrapped in a strange destiny set against the gods. This Greek mythology fantasy was a new take on some of the same names we’ve all heard since our childhoods which was great and refreshing. The pacing felt good and I was interested from the beginning.
I struggled a little with the main character and hope she can be more developed in the books to come.
I did enjoy the narrator. Great voice, great pacing.
Thank you NetGalley and Harlequin Audio for the audiobook ARC!

2.5 stars
This book was all over the place. The pacing did not work for me at all.
I loved the beginning, but that's about it.
The main character was not my favorite. I actually liked the side characters much more.
The narrator did a great job with what she was working with.
Overall, this just felt very YA to me and that is not what I wanted.

Thanks to NetGalley and Harlequin Audio for the ALC of this book.
I really enjoyed the narrator. What first caught my eye was the cover. It’s stunning. And then the synopsis. Greek mythology stories can get repetitive, but the idea that the FMC was meant to take them down was intriguing.
There were times the story felt just a little rushed or I wish things had been fleshed out a bit more. However, overall I really enjoyed this book and can’t wait for book two.

Thank you to Netgalley, the publisher, and the author for providing a free audio arc of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This was a great , harrowing, classic Greek mythology adventure that was fast-paced, action-packed, and leaves you wanting to see what more Danae has to go through with every chapter. The author has her own twists on Greek characters and Gods that are unique. It is also a coming into one's own story where Danae starts out as a weak character and realizes her power, and becomes a strong heroine.
The plot was wonderful, the world building really makes you feel like you are there with the characters, and the characters themselves are all well developed, engaging, and do follow along some with the traditional portrayal of Greek characters such as Jason and Heracles. I really enjoyed this book and will definitely be picking up the sequel when it comes out!

Thank you for providing me with an advance copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. ・❥・

I just know this will be one of my top reads for the idea. This gave me the same feelings I had when reading the Percy Jackson series as a kid. The world building and story telling were amazing. I never saw any of the twists coming, and I was absolutely shocked multiple times. I will be eagerly awaiting the next in the series and Im not sure how long I can wait

I went into this book blind and I was pleasantly surprised! This was my Goldsboro GSFF monthly pick, and they very rarely let me down, so I shouldn't have been too shocked that I enjoyed it so much.
This is a twist on Greek mythology. It starts off pretty dark, with the main character, Danae's sister, experiencing major trauma. It's a welcome slower start, getting an idea of the world and how Danae lives. Things pick up when Danae's world is turned upside down and she embarks on her quest. Familiar names from Greek mythology started popping up, but things were different enough that I wasn't ever anticipating what was going to happen next.
This is a debut, and I felt that a few times with some repetitive phrases, but it never pulled me out of the story and overall I think the writing was well done. The ending did feel a little rushed compared to the rest of the book. I know this is the start of a series, and it wrapped up in a nice spot, but I wish the ending was extended just a bit. I'll definitely be continuing when the next book comes out though!
I think the audiobook narrator was perfect for how I was imagining Danae in my head and I appreciated that her pace was more typical of a normal conversation.
Thank you, NetGalley and Harlequin Audio, for an audiobook copy in exchange for this honest review.

Thank you for allowing me to listen to the audiobook. I love fantasy and I love mythology so this was perfect for me. I enjoyed the book from the beginning and thought the spin on mythology was super interesting. Can’t wait for book 2!

This book needs to be in the hands of every Greek Mythology retelling fan! I loved this so much. The world building is absolutely gorgeous, every setting and area was vivid enough to imagine being there. The weaving of so many of my favorite stories strung together into one epic tale. I really enjoyed the characters and thought that they were written. Danae was a lovely and I thought that her character growth matched with the speed of the story and adjusted genuinely with the things that happened to her. I was gripped right from page one and on to the end there is so much action and twists that I could not stop listening, I had to know what happened. The narrator did such a great job of bringing this story to life.

From the very first chapter, this audiobook grips you with its rich storytelling, vivid world-building, and an immersive performance that brings the characters and setting to life.
Lucy Walker-Evans delivers a standout narration, capturing the raw emotion and intensity of the protagonist’s journey with incredible skill. Her ability to seamlessly shift between characters, imbuing each with a unique voice and personality, makes the story even more engaging. Whether it's the fierce determination of the heroine, the sinister undertones of an antagonist, or the tender moments between allies, Walker-Evans conveys it all with depth and authenticity.
The story itself is a thrilling blend of magic, danger, and personal growth. A.S. Webb’s world-building is extraordinary, filled with intricate lore and a dark, captivating atmosphere. The pacing is excellent, balancing fast-paced action scenes with quieter, introspective moments that allow the characters and their struggles to shine. Listening to the audiobook feels like stepping directly into this richly imagined world.
