I'm so glad I decided to read my advance copy of The Ex-Girlfriend Murder Club (thank you NetGalley!) when I did. It was exactly the actual laugh-out-loud read-in-one-day book that I needed! I was honestly drawn in by the cover, which doesn't usually happen for me, and it was a winner. It reminded me a lot of the Finley Donovan series...absolutely hilarious and ridiculous and so much fun. This is a perfect summer beach read!

This was such a fun whodunit mystery! Despite the murder, this is not a scary or gruesome read. I laughed so many times and enjoyed each of the women. This reminded me of the film John Tucker Must Die from the early 00s.

If you enjoy fun mysteries or books about women supporting women (and getting revenge on men), you’ll enjoy The Ex-Girlfriend Murder Club. This is the first book in a new series, and I look forward to reading what’s next!

The Ex-Girlfriend Murder Club was SO MUCH FUN. You would never expect so much heart from a story about a murder investigation. This is "John Tucker Must Die" meets "Horrible Bosses," making for an extremely hilarious romp of a read. Kathryn, Olivia, and Elle are such a fun trio - they created a friendship out of such an extreme circumstance, and found themselves while trying to find a murderer. These characters felt so raw and true - you want them to be YOUR friends. Each of their quirks give them so much personality - no one dimensional characters here. I appreciated learning the origin of so many idioms. I LOVED how much poop humor there was here - YES! Women also think poop and farts are funny!

AND THE PLOT! I honestly had so many theories about who the murderer was, but none of them were right! I was simply delighted to not see those last chapters coming. This was masterful story-telling with fleshed out characters, thrilling twists, and heart-warming growth. I would recommend this to anybody who loves a good murder mystery, or to anyone who loves a female friend group that feels just like yours.

The story follows Kat, an insecure grad student who is in love with her caring and thoughtful boyfriend Tucker. As a thank you, she has been saving and planning a weekend getaway with Tucker, which has been a challenge on her student budget.

After a particularly horrible day at the lab, Tucker charms his way through the office with doughnuts and saves the day for Kat. As a thank you, she decides to stretch her comfort zone and spontaneously surprise him at his apartment where she finds a romantic rose petal and candle set up.

Kat runs to the bathroom to quickly change out of her coffee stained shirt when she hears Tucker professing his love for….Olivia. Kat busts into the room half naked to witness Tucker proposing to another woman.

The mayhem ensues as the two woman meet over boba to exchange details about their relationships and decide to screw Tucker. To get over him, they decide to go on the romantic weekend getaway Kat was stuck with together. Bonding on their roadtrip they are starting to feel better, only to find Tucker in a compromising position at the hotel with…Elle.

The 3 scorned women decide to hit the bar where they come up with insane revenge ideas. They agree on various tasks to mess up Tucker’s apartment including smearing dog poop in his home office, cutting holes in his expensive underwear and more. The problem is, when they go to implement their revenge, they find Tucker’s dead body. Thus, the Ex Girlfriend Murder Club is formed.

The book is a comedic murder mystery as the women band together to solve the crime.

I’ve never read this type of book before and it was an easy weekend read. It definitely has some John Tucker Must Die vibes which gave it a nostalgic early 2000s feel as I was reading it.

Thank you MIRA for providing me with an Advance Reader's Copy. I’m truly grateful to have received an advanced copy of this book—thank you so much! As always, all thoughts and opinions are completely my own.

Kathryn is in her late 20s, working in a lab—supposedly doing what she always dreamed of. Except her experiments keep failing. A few months ago, she started dating the most amazing guy she met at the grocery store. He gives her space, and they spend two days a week together.

One particularly bad day, Kathryn (Kat) texts Tucker and leaves work early to see him. When she arrives at his place, it looks incredible—there are rose petals on the bed. She heads into the bathroom to wash off a coffee stain from her shirt, and while she’s in there, she hears Tucker proposing. At first, she thinks the proposal is for her—until she hears another woman’s voice. Moments later, she realizes he’s proposing to someone else. What the heck is going on?

Kat and the other woman, Liv, are shocked to meet under such circumstances. They quickly leave—and surprisingly, become friends. Kat had saved up for a special weekend getaway with Tucker, and she decides to still go, but with Liv. Things only escalate from there when they discover that another woman had also been dating Tucker. Not only was he two-timing—he was three-timing!

The three women bond over the weekend and decide to get revenge on Tucker with frogs, glitter, and a few other surprises. But when they sneak into his apartment, they discover something much worse: Tucker is dead. They panic and flee the scene. Kat later returns to clean up their fingerprints—only to be accused of his murder.

This was such a fun mystery with a few great twists! I had several laugh-out-loud moments and really enjoyed the dynamic between the women. The friendships that develop are sweet and supportive. This is the perfect book to take with you on a trip.
If you liked The Maid, Finlay Donovan, or Vera Wong books you’ll definitely enjoy this one!

The Ex-Girlfriend Murder Club is a fun and wild ride from start to finish! It had you laughing out loud, curious what would happen next, and feeling for the characters. I followed Kat, Olivia, and Elle—three women who become friends after dating the same guy but he happens to be dead in a closet.

I really enjoyed the heart of this story. Talk about a bff meet-cute! I loved that so much of this book was about the three ex-girlfriends and the friendship that develops among them. Kat, Olivia, and Elle were all duped by the same guy, but instead of turning on each other, they find solace, commiseration, and, ultimately, deep devotion.

Gloria did an excellent job with Kat as the narrator. I appreciated the way Gloria handled Kat's emotions surrounding ex-boyfriend, Tucker, and his ensuing demise. Kat's feelings about Tucker were complex and rode a bit of a roller coaster, which felt very realistic and relatable. Gloria did wonderfully at showing how grief is not reserved for death but also for the loss of something we thought we had.

I did struggle with a few parts of the book. The interjection of podcast transcripts felt unnecessary. The whole subplot of this off-the-rails podcaster was a bit distracting, and I felt that its purpose to the plot could have been accomplished or reworked in other, more subtle, ways.

As for the mystery itself, I enjoyed it well enough, though it wasn't my favorite part of the book. I liked the forensic details and what Kat was able to figure out on her own. I did like the end of the book, though I didn't love the execution of it. After an entire book with Kat as the narrator, the POV switches for the final chapter, and I am personally not a fan of that. It felt like an info dump rather than a nuanced explanation in Kat's point of view.

Overall, I enjoyed the book, and I am very curious to see where Gloria takes Kat's character in the future!

Thank you Netgalley and Harlequin Books for this arc in exchange for an honest review!

The first thing, the cover to this book grabbed my attention right away. Then, I read the synopsis and I just had to request it!

This book was so fun! It was a cozy murder mystery that had a great sense of humor, all likable characters (well, except Tucker) and a ending I didn’t actually predict until close to the actual ending 😅

I loved the unlikely friendship that formed between the three girls, Kat, Olivia, and Elle. They bonded together during a crazy hard time, barely knowing each other and still kept things light hearted, all while trying to solve a murder!

I thought this was a light fun read and perfect for summer ☀️

The title and cover of the book caught my attention. I had never read this author previously. I did not realize how much I was going to enjoy this book. Kathryn Hu is a chemist and dating the man of her dreams until she found out she was one of three women he was seeing. Kathryn and the other two, Olivia and Elle, meet and plan to pull a prank on him to get revenge. Unfortunately, when they arrive at his apartment, they find him dead but not before they leave DNA evidence all over.

The ensuing panic, hijinks, and investigating they do to try and find the culprit before one or all of them find themselves behind bars for something they didn't do. The story is full of humor, puns and bad decisions. There is also a hunky detective as well. They mystery was top notch, I did not see that ending coming!

An enjoyable and entertaining read!

Thank you to NetGalley and Mira/Harlequin for the opportunity to read and review this book.

(Disclaimer: I received this book from the author. This has not impacted my review which is unbiased and honest.)

The Ex-Girlfriend Murder Club takes some of my favorite elements all together. We love a good revenge story and what's better than one person getting revenge, than everyone who's been wronged by a cheater getting revenge? If you've seen John Tucker Must Die, The Ex-Girlfriend Murder Club is the adult mystery version of that. Except that the ex ends up dying and they have to team up together to clear their names. I loved the whole investigation angle. It felt so realistic for them to have to be figure out what to do when they are SO unprepared. The mystery is such a steady thrum throughout the story.

A fun story of three women who unbeknownst to them are all dating the same man. In a comedy of errors, and inspired by a popular podcast, they decide to take their revenge on him, only to find him murdered in his apartment with their dna everywhere. As the most likely suspects, they decide to solve his murder. It’s funny, a little mysterious, and a great story of accidental friends.

3.5 rounded up, this was a fun and entertaining story that gave John Tucker Must Die vibes. I loved the premise and thought this was silly and laugh out loud funny at times. There was some more serious inner dialogue that added another layer of depth. Overall, a nice palate cleanser if you’re looking for a lighthearted murder mystery.

So much fun! I loved getting to know Kathryn, a socially-awkward but fun scientist, Olivia, the poised attorney, and Elle, the fun-loving party girl, and enjoyed following along as they tried to figure out who killed their lying, cheating ex. There is plenty of humor in this one but also some heartfelt moments where you really feel you can connect to the characters despite not having a murdered ex. I loved watching their friendship strengthen and grow. I did figure out who the murderer was early on but this did not take away from my enjoyment of the story. This was a fun read and I can’t wait to see what happens next.

This was so much fun from beginning to end. I loved the friendship that developed between the ladies and the ending was … not really a surprise but definitely brought it all together . Kathryn and her budding romance and her relationship with her parents added some laughter and depth to the story . I look forward to seeing what Kathryn and her friends get up to in the next book .

When Kathryn Hu learns that her seemingly charming boyfriend, Tucker Jones, is actually a cheating scumbag, she kicks him to the curb and meets up with the other two women he was dating, Olivia and Elle. Together, the three scorned women decide to exact revenge on Tucker. Instead, they find him dead.

Kat, Elle, and Olivia know they are innocent even though they look terribly guilty, so they decide to work together to find out who really killed Tucker. They quickly discover they aren't the only ones with motives.

The Ex-Girlfriend Murder Club is a hilarious mystery in the vein of Dial A for Aunties and Finley Donovan Is Killing It. There is some salty language and lots of laughs in between the suspenseful parts of the story.

Kat Hu is a delightful protagonist. She is (in equal parts) intelligent, nerdy, vulnerable, and likable. The other two women, Elle and Olivia, are very different from Kat and each other, and make the perfect sidekicks to help Kat solve this mystery.

The friendship that develops between the three women is one of the book's best aspects. It is wonderful to see them work together to get through a tough time and move toward a happy place.

The mystery and humor are both well done. The entire story is highly entertaining and one of my favorite books this year. I look forward to reading the next book in the series, The Mortal Enemy Murder Club.

Thanks to Net Galley and Mira Books for the ARC.

I loved this book! It was such a fun and twisty ride—I was hooked from the first page. It’s suspenseful without ever feeling too dark, and the humor balanced out the murder mystery perfectly.

The found family dynamic between Kat, Olivia, and Elle was so wholesome and sweet. Despite the chaos surrounding them (you know, like a body in a closet), their growing friendship was one of my favorite parts. Each main character felt distinct and relatable in her own way, and I enjoyed watching them come into their own as amateur sleuths.

The mystery kept me guessing right up to the end—so many curve balls! The podcast angle added a fresh, modern twist that made everything feel very timely and relevant. The hint of potential romance added an extra layer of intrigue and kept things even more engaging.

If you enjoy light-hearted murder mysteries with lovable characters, chaotic hijinks, and a big dose of girl-power bonding, this one’s for you.

Thank you MIRA for providing this book for review consideration via NetGalley. All opinions are my own.

This book was so funny and bingeable! Definitely had to suspend some belief to buy into the story but once I did, I was all in.

There are so many murder clubs. First there was Thursday. Then there was Marlow. And now? The Ex-Girlfriend Murder Club. This one, however, does not feature one or more septuagenarians trying to solve a crime. (A pity, honestly. But I guess we need to be unique somehow.) Rather, this madcap novel follows a trio of young women who, after finding out they all have been dating the same man, decide to prank him. Unfortunately, things go disastrously wrong when in the midst of their prank they find that he is dead. Chaos ensues as they try to figure out who killed Tucker.

As I read this, I kept feeling like it felt YA, even though it definitely wasn’t. Part of this was the writing itself. Part of it was in all the moments where I had to suspend disbelief. (The detective is really going to tell our MC that she should investigate but be careful??) And part of it was because of all the moments where things coincidentally worked out. (Don’t get me started on the Life Alert.) I did realize after finishing that this author is probably best known for her YA novels (Rent a Boyfriend, American Panda). I just wish this non-YA novel didn’t reek of YA vibes.

That said, if you enjoyed the shenanigans of Dial A for Aunties, this book might be for you.

This book was entertaining! A lighthearted murder mystery with a trio of unexpected heroines - Kat, Olivia, and Elle 0 who all share one surprising connection: their ex, Tucker, who turns up dead. What follows is a clever and chaotic whodunit filled with sharp banter, quirky twists, and a lot of laughs. I loved watching these women team up and navigate their way through the mystery. Perfect if you're in the mood for something breezy, witty, and just plain fun. Big thanks to HTP Books and NetGalley for the early copy!
