This book pics up one year after Sybil's most recent engagement ended at the altar. Sybil was most recently engaged to Jamie but things took a turn when she disappeared for a couple days before the wedding, ultimately leading to the end of her relationship with him. Picking up a year later on the honeymoon trip that never happened, she and Jamie reconnect but not without some drama. Because not only is Jamie there, but another ex-fiance has made an appearance. What a mess!
Ultimately I thought this was a super fun book that hits on some really hard topics dealing with PCOS, infertility, and miscarriages, but in a way that isn't overwhelming (to me at least). I loved the way none of what was brought up ended up being ignored or treated like her hardships didn't matter.

Having read this as a digital copy and also an audio copy in tandem, I felt that the audio really brought this book to life and enhanced the reading experience. The narrator did an amazing job capturing all the emotions Sybil was feeling during the whole book.

The Four Engagement Rings of Sybil Rain pleasantly surprised me by having more layers than I was expecting from a summer romance. This story does a great job capturing that uncomfortable space between who you think you’re supposed to be and who you actually are. Sybil’s journey of breaking off four different engagements for four very different reasons could have felt repetitive, but it didn't because we kept learning new things about her through the process. I really liked her relationship with her sister. Some of the flashbacks slowed things down, and I didn’t totally buy the final romantic resolution, but I enjoyed the story. Sybil is a little infuriating at times, but she’s trying, and that makes her feel real. It’s a story about relationships but also about learning how to stop performing for everyone else’s approval. If you’re into character-driven stories with emotional stakes and some messiness along the way, it’s worth picking up.

For the record, I haven't finished the first book in the series (started and couldn't get into it) so I didn't have the backstory/context that might of helped with Sybil Brown's story. The story felt like a deep reflection of Sybil's love life and past trauma. I found the story to be funny but predictable and I am not a fan of the miscommunication trope... especially when it impacted their relationship so much? I would give the book a 3 and audio book a 4 stars! Thank you Hachette audio and NetGalley for the Advanced Listeners Copy/Audiobook and thank you for the ARC! I loved the narrator!

I ended up enjoying this second book in reality tv star Hannah Brown's Mistakes we never made series a whole lot more than I was expecting to! Set in Hawaii, this book sees Sybil Brown going on the honey moon she never had a year after her marriage was called off only to find herself reunited not only with one former fiance but two! There's forced proximity, fake dating, a second chance romance, and lots of vacation shenanigans but also a lot of soul searching and emotional depth as Sybil grapples with her self worth in light of her PCOS diagnosis and potential infertility problems. Read with care as the book discusses miscarriages and unexpected pregnancies but ends in a heartwarming HEA. Good on audio and a fun summer romance read. Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an early digital and audio copy in exchange for my honest review.

I was so excited about getting this ARC from Hannah Brown! The Four Engagement Rings of Sybil Rain follows Sybil in the aftermath of ending her engagement. To get out of her rut, her friends encourage her to take the non-refundable trip that was supposed to be her honeymoon. Sybil is ready for a relaxing time drinking cocktails by the beach when she gets the shock of her life seeing Jamie, her ex-fiance, is at the resort as well. Jamie's business wants to buy the resort so Jamie has brought her beautiful colleague with him on the trip. Sybil is constantly running into her and it creates for some awkward moments. Things continue to get crazy when Sebastian, Sybil's second ex-fiance, shows up. Sybil begins questioning all of her previous relationships and trying to figure out the best path forward. I liked that this combined emotional moments with fun lighthearted moments. I related a lot to Sybil on her journey to try to find a path to move forward, something I think we can all learn from. There were some silly moments and I didn't totally feel the chemistry between the main characters but they were dealbreakers to me at all. I went back and forth between the ebook and ALC and had a great time! Cherami Leigh does a really fantastic job with this audiobook!
Rating: 3.5.⭐️

Taking a solo honeymoon trip one year after her called-off wedding, Sybil runs into not one but TWO ex-fiancés, including Jamie, the man she most recently left at the altar. Cue the chaos, fake-dating shenanigans, vacation vibes, and fun awkwardness!

You first meet Sybil in Mistakes We Never Made, where her engagement comes to an end, so I was really excited to see Jamie make an appearance. Once again, I love a second-chance romance, and these two were undeniably cute together. But as much as I enjoyed the continuation of their story, it didn’t bring the tension or passion I need from this trope.

One aspect I really liked, though, was the glimpse into Sybil’s past relationships and engagements. She’s a bit of a free spirit who tends to run from her problems, so while the miscommunication between her and Jamie was super frustrating, it did make sense. Then again, I still question if Sybil is truly ready for a relationship. She clearly has a lot to work through. But overall, this was a fun, easy beach read with a unique setup and a happy ending!

This was such a fun story! I liked the setting of the story being encounters with ex boyfriends while in forced proximity on an island vacation. It set the mood for Sybil’s arc very well. Jamie and Seb were both super interesting male leads, and the flashbacks throughout the book really helped the reader understand Sybil’s relationships with each man on multiple levels. This would be a great beach read for the summer!

Thank you to Forever Publishing for an early copy!

An epic love story that was also so tragic but ultimately had the perfect romantic fairytale ending. How Sybil.got to the eventual love interest and the buildup of the relationship was heartrenching and sweet all at once.

Well, Sybil is basically a chaotic mess and she has been doing her best to clean up her life after her disaster of a wedding weekend last year that did not actually end in marriage. Her friends have encouraged her to cash in on those honeymoon vouchers, so she’s off to a resort in Hawaii to spend a few days relaxing. Except she runs right into her ex-fiance Jamie, who’s there for business reasons. Totally awkward and she spends a lot of time failing to avoid him. It’s messy and full of terrible communication as she makes up a fake boyfriend to save face. Honestly, for a lot of the book, I wasn’t sure if Jamie was going to be the guy she ends up with, especially when her other ex-fiance Sebastian shows up. We deal with a lot of Sybil’s hang ups in relationships and how she is probably a lot less confident than she outwardly appears. Great side characters in the form of a friendly concierge and friendly bartender. Definitely an enjoyable read.

A second chance romance but with which one? Sybil is finally on the honeymoon that was paid for but never taken because her wedding to Jamie didn't happen. It's at a lovely tropical resort which is why when Jamie appears (surprise!) his companion is wearing swimwear. So why not invent a boyfriend to save face? Well, it turns out Sebastian was also a fiance so there's a problem for everyone. Sybil has matured (relatively) since those relationships failed but can she have a real one now? And with which guy? Know that there is bit of darkness in the sunny infliuencer's life; she's got PCOS. This adds to the story and made me like her more. Thanks to netgalley for the ARC. A good read for a lazy day.

I both listened and read this arc and both were fabulous. I loved the storyline - Sybil takes her honeymoon alone a year later after the wedding that never happened. Once there she runs into exes and has the opportunity for a second chance romance. The character and story development and growth were both great. The banter and chemistry were felt through the pages. I loved the dialogue between the characters and the descriptions of their location. I found this to just be a truly enjoyable romance with depth and fun. Overall a perfect summer read.

Thank you Netgalley for my advanced reader copies.

🩷Second chance romance
🩷Opposites attract
🩷Self-discovery
🩷They had to fall apart to come back together
🩷Beach/vacation read

This is a sweet second chance romance. Jamie and Sybil have a lot of chemistry despite being wrong for each other on paper. He is a finance bro, and she is a free spirit. Early on in the book, I genuinely had a hard time believing they could work together. They just seemed so different.

But over their days of running into each other at the resort, it became more clear their year apart was good for both of them. They had to grow apart to come back together. And I think they have a better chance of staying together in the long run the second time around.

This book will be on a lot of beach/vacation read lists!

The Four Engagement Rings of Sybil Rain by Hannah Brown

This book has some undisclosed trigger warnings that blindsided me and could be upsetting to certain readers. I consider these warnings to be spoilers, but I absolutely wish I'd known about them before going in and these aren't even my personal triggers. If you want to skip my warning, scroll past the arrows and pick up with "Review time!".

There's a lot of discussion about the main character's previous miscarriage
that occurred before the book begins, as well as infertility due to her chronic health condition (PCOS).

These topics are broached without any warning and the discussions are
plentiful enough that they're unavoidable. Please read with care.

Review time! Let me start out with what I liked, because I have some conflicting feelings that I'm struggling to organize. I did not realize that The Four Engagement Rings of Sybil Rain is a companion novel to Mistakes We Never Made. I have not read MWNM and didn't feel the least bit lost reading Sybil's story, so go forth and be unafraid if you're in the same boat I was in. I love a travel romance, and Sybil's solo vacation really intrigued me. I wanted to escape to the beach, and I enjoyed the snorkeling and horseback riding and sunsets. The descriptions of the scenery were lovely, and I felt transported to Hawaii. I've been through a lot in my dating life, and the idea of making up a new boyfriend in order to save face in front of an ex-fiance is exactly the kind of idea I'd come up with but be too afraid to carry out. The fact that her fake boyfriend ended up being another real ex-fiance of hers was the cherry on top. This. Was. Messy! I'm willing to rip my hair out while I watch The Bachelor franchise shows, so obviously I enjoy drama. And the drama did its thing really, really well. I couldn't look away and had to know how this all turned out.

But then... there were quite a few things I didn't like. You can tell that this book was written for a celebrity influencer. There are a lot of brand names and discussions on content creating. Sybil is a content creator for a company that makes period panties and is not just in Hawaii to use her expiring travel vouchers, but to cover a blood moon for her company (because periods...). There's a lot of talk of harnessing your feminine power from the moon and mentions of a holistic positivity coach when Sybil really should have just been in real therapy instead. Both Sybil and her most recent ex, Jamie (the one she's lying to about her fake boyfriend), are extremely shallow and immature and go through no growth throughout the story. Sybil in particular is incredibly self-centered and feels she's perfect and that everyone else she associates with is the problem. She takes no accountability for her choices and actions, and just when I thought she might grow up a bit she slid right back to where she was. I liked Seb, Sybil's other ex and the one she's pretending to date, but he's a caricature of every free-spirited photographer I've ever seen in fiction and lacked the emotional depth he easily could have been given. I was excited about the promise of the fake dating trope, but quickly grew disappointed when it took a turn and ended up not being a true "fake dating" romance. This chaotic romance also leans very heavily into the miscommunication trope, which I never enjoy. The pacing felt very off. I got tired of the long passages about Sybil's previous relationships that were oddly placed randomly throughout the story and threw me out of the present. I have a few more complaints about the actual romance that I consider to be spoilers, so I won't share them... but yeah, I was disappointed with the ending and really wasn't rooting for anyone by then.

All in all, this was a big disappointment for me. It started off strong, and I loved the summer vacation vibes and the promise of a fun fake dating romance, but was instead presented with a lackluster second chance romance between two characters who were way too immature to enter a relationship and some emotional content I wasn't expecting that really dragged things down for me.

Sybil Rain goes on a last minute trip to what was supposed to be her honeymoon hotel in Hawaii. To her dismay two of her previous fiances are there as well…craziness ensues. I was very surprised by this book. It has romance and some shenanigans but it is also surprisingly deep. I wasn’t familiar with this author but I am looking forward to the next instalment in the series. A great beach/cottage read.

I really enjoyed this and thought it was a great, light fun summer read. I didn’t connect with these characters and this storyline as much as other books in this genre. Overall I thought this was great, it just wasn’t my favorite.

This gave me Definitely, Maybe vibes. I went into this book not reading the synopsis, not other reviews either, and I totally felt like Abigail Breslin trying to figure out who the love interest was gonna be. It read like a romcom movie, and I loved that aspect so much.

Hannah did such a great job with this book. It was fun and flirty, but also very heartfelt and reflective.

I’d been looking forward to this book ever since reading Mistakes We Never Made, and it didn’t disappoint. I can’t wait for what Hannah has next for us! Thank you so much for the ARC, Forever.

Thank you to netgalley and Forever Grand Central publishing for letting me get an early access to this book. This book I have to say is one of my top 5 fave so far for 2025. It made me laugh, made me angry and made me teary eyed. It was definitely a romcom type book that just hit me. I loved it so much and thoroughly enjoyed every ounce of the book. The book did such a great job at describing the raw emotions of the main character and just telling Sybil's story. I loved the chemistry Sybil had with everyone she interacted with. If you love romcom movies this book will definitely give you that vibe. It's a very entertaining book and I highly recommend! I'm so glad I got a chance to advance read this book it was definitely a 5 star for me.

Sybil Rain has been adjusting to life after the ending of her third engagement. Her friends suggest she finally take the non-refundable trip that was intended to be her honeymoon with Jamie. Unfortunately for her Jamie has had the same idea but he has tied his trip to his business and has brought a beautiful colleague with him. Her attempts to avoid Jamie are being constantly thwarted as they continue to run into each other. Complicating matters finance number two, Sebastian, also shows up at the resort. Though not at the resort the issues that ended her first engagement is still very much on her mind and may be what is causing her to question all of her relationships. Sybil must examine her heart to determine how she wants to move forward.

I really enjoyed this book. It has a nice mix of heartfelt emotion and some more silly and fun moments. I really love Sybil. She is sweet and fun. While there may be some silly parts of the book the root of what is keeping her from being able to move forward is something that I think a lot of women can relate to. I enjoyed each of her boys that we got to meet and her friends that she stays in constant contact with throughout the book. This is the second of Hannah Brown's books that I have read. I have really enjoyed both of them and look forward to reading what comes next.
