A flirty, second-chance romance about a social media creator navigating love after three failed engagements. Sybil's Hawaiian getaway, originally meant for a honeymoon, turns into a journey of self-discovery and unexpected romance. Fans of lighthearted rom-coms will enjoy this breezy tale.

Thank you kindly to Forever Grand Publishing for inviting me and sending a widget of The Four Engagement Rings of Sybil Rain. I'm a bit on the fence with this one. I did find the plot engaging. Being stuck in a luxurious holiday resort with not one but two of your ex-fiancés? I honestly couldn’t think of anything worse, and it made for a genuinely interesting setup.
That said, it would be disingenuous not to mention how chaotic and messy the story felt; I'm still trying to process it.

Sybil, as a main character, was intense and quite a lot to take in, but like I said, there was never a dull moment. The book relies heavily on the miscommunication trope, with both Sybil and Jamie being dishonest, not just with each other but also with themselves.

I found it quite wild that Sybil disappeared for two days right before her wedding. Understandably, Jamie had doubts about whether they should go through with it. Even when we finally learn the reason behind it, I still wasn’t entirely convinced. It just didn’t feel like they were ready for marriage.

Jamie was equally intriguing, seemingly shaped by what was expected of him by his family, something we learn through Sybil’s narration of the past. A year later, he seems to be trying to live more for himself, rather than for his parents or even his sister.

Sybil and Jamie haven’t seen each other since the day of their explosive argument, when she literally ran from the altar. Their reunion had so much potential for tension and emotion, all that unresolved stuff between them. While it was definitely present, it fell a bit flat for me, mostly because of how chaotic everything felt. That was largely down to how Sybil’s character was.

I’m not faulting her entirely. She wanted someone who truly saw and accepted her for who she was, which is fair. Then add in Sebastian, the second ex, who seems mainly there to stir things up and make Jamie jealous.

Overall, it was an interesting and entertaining read. Despite the chaos, the premise kept me engaged, and I was genuinely curious to see how it would all play out. It wasn’t without its flaws, but it had enough drama, tension and character depth to keep me turning the pages.

Rating: 3.5 out of 5

I requested this book because I was in desperate need of a palate cleanser after a particularly disappointing read, and this second-chance romance seemed like the best idea. While the idea had potential, the execution wasn’t the greatest.

Let’s start with the premise: Sybil bumping into multiple ex-fiancés at the same time in Hawaii? It felt a bit ridiculous. I also couldn’t wrap my head around her having three ex-fiances in general.

Now to the writing and characters...

Sybil is… a lot. I struggled to connect with her throughout the story. She’s carelessly chaotic, and not in the quirky, endearing way. She misses her own wedding, spirals over her ex showing up the week before graduation (and somehow that prevents her from graduating?), lies constantly, avoids accountability, and is always deflecting blame. For someone who’s 29—that’s also my age!—her decisions made her seem a lot younger and not in a relatable way.

We do learn the true reason for her being MIA the wedding weekend but I still couldn’t understand her lack of communciation with her fiancé, Jaime.

The book also touches on PCOS, but I didn’t appreciate the implication that it's a definitive roadblock to having children. That needed a more thoughtful, nuanced approach.

Lastly, I didn’t realize this was part of a series where we follow each friend’s love story. I’m not the biggest fan of setups where the whole friend group conveniently ends up in love—it feels a little too tidy and formulaic.

Overall, it was a fun, quick read but I wasn’t Sybil’s biggest fan.

Thank you for an ARC of this book! I can’t lie, I was mainly intrigued by this after seeing it was Hannah Brown who wrote it because I didn’t realize she is now an author outside of her autobiography. I think this book has a lot of potential to be a cute second chance romance, but there are some upgrades it could use. My biggest complaint is that there is a LOT of build up to a specific reveal/confession and we essentially jump ahead and get the past tense summary of how the conversation went. That’s a pet peeve of mine in a lot of books but especially for such a big moment, it made it feel like there was no payoff for all the patience I had. My other main complaint is that the FMC is extremely unlikeable for the majority of the book. She has moments where she’s better but at her core, I would never want to be friends with this woman in real life and think the MMC deserved better

I loved Brown's debut and this book was so GOOD too! I love when a sophomore novel lives up to the first one. The characters felt very fresh and real. I wasn't a super huge fan of the flashbacks (I really don't love them in any book) but I still think this is a 5 star read! Add it to your list!

3.5 stars for me!
Cute romance that focuses on struggles that life hits us constantly with. It shows that life and love isn’t all rainbows and sunshine and that sometimes it takes time as we’re all living for the first time.

I definitely recommend this.

Thank you to Netgalley and Forever Grand Central Publishing for this ARC in exchange for my honest review.

This is my first time reading something by Hannah Brown, and I had no idea she was on the Bachelor until I read the acknowledgment. I’m actually pretty impressed! This book was surprisingly good. I thought it was well written, and I can totally see some parts being inspired by her experience on a dating show. It was a light hearted read that also touches on some serious topics like mental health, miscarriage, and infertility. I usually don’t like second chance romance, but this one was really well executed. I believe in the power of redemption for both characters, and how they heal and eventually realize that they’re meant to be together and have a HEA. I can’t wait to read more from Hannah in the future!

I am so glad that I got more of the story from ‘Mistakes We Never Made’.

This book was very focused on mental health in regard to marriage and I am so thankful for that! Deciding to get married is multi-faceted, not just based on love. Yes, Sybil was engaged 4 times, but she was not in a healthy spot mentally for the first 3 times and that’s okay. By the end of the book, she is more secure about her feelings, more mature, and less likely to “run”. I’m glad that Sybil had a good therapist that really helped her and she quotes her throughout the book. There was very minimal spice (just mentioned on a page or two), but it focused more on emotional intimacy, which I think is equally if not more important than physical intimacy. I hope there is another book, maybe to follow Nikki’s story and her time on the show ‘LovedBy’.

There should be some trigger warnings for miscarriage/possible miscarriage and PCOS.

Thank you NetGalley and Forever for the ARC in exchange for my honest review!!

4.75/5 Stars!

I was HOOKED and invested from start to finish of this book! Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this eARC!
As a disclaimer, I hadn’t read The Mistakes We Never Made (the first book of this series) prior to reading this one but I found that this could be read as a standalone perfectly fine!

This book follows the past relationships of Sybil, a wild spirit who is trying to find herself in this world. I love that this book features more than one trope at a time, offering Second Chance Romance, Fake Dating, and ultimately the Love Triangle to meet in a rich, funny, and emotionally gripping story! Throughout the entire book the character growth and development of Sybil had me on an emotional rollercoaster (and I loved every second of it).
The writing style of this author is super digestible and easy to follow, with lavish descriptions and emotionally gripping ways of digging into the insecurities so many of us harbor within. Brown, through the main female character of Sybil, dives into the fears of not being “good enough” for the person we are with, for the hardships that come with finding who you are in this world, and the scariness of voicing what we truly want in fear that we could never achieve it; in this case, the kind of love and security with someone who sees you for who you wholly are, darkness and all. Sybil not only grapples with insecurity in her own sense of self, but insecurity in her relationships and the experience of growing up; watching friends grow into titles like “mom”, and experiencing this feeling of falling behind in “adulthood”.

This book will take you through all the emotions and feeling of being seen, offering a fun and rich summer beach read!

This is the perfect summer/ beach read! With a Hawaiian beach resort as the setting- how could you go wrong?

Sybil is impulsive, experiences life to the fullest, has big feelings, and is still figuring out who she is and what she wants. One year after her would-be wedding, she is taking a solo vacation/ work trip to her honeymoon destination. But guess who also happens to be there? Not one but TWO ex fiancés.

This story follows current day Sybil as she reflects on her past relationships. Sprinkled throughout are Hawaiian excursions, interactions with past loves, and present day realizations about her worth and desires. I highly recommend this story if you’re looking for a romance with themes on finding love and yourself along the way.

What I really enjoyed about this story was the growth of Sybil, not only as a partner but as a person with complicated physical and mental challenges. Although her journey is not traditional, it is beautiful to read about all the same.

The Four Engagement Rings of Sybil Rain releases June 24, 2025.

Oh my godddd I feel so lucky to have received this as an early reading copy 😭😭 this book is SO SO SO GOOD!! Truthfully have never felt so seen after following Sybil’s journey. She’s so relatable in an honest way. The chemistry between Sybil and the other two male leads is fantastic but the ending was perfection. Also.. dare I say miscommunication trope done right? Coming from me? A serious miscommunication trope hater??? This book changed me

Hannah Brown really loves to write some chaos and I am here for it. I think that reality set aside, this was a really fun escape into an adventure and chaotic love story. Sybil’s growth is really in depth on page, and I think that shows a lot of maturity in Hannah’s writing. I liked Mistakes We Never Made, but this felt like Hannah really finding her stride as a writer.

I am a sucker for a second chance romance, and she’s now written two, but they felt different enough from each other that I really enjoyed this. The setting was also stunningly written and you really felt immersed in the story!

This feels like a perfect beach read this summer!

Thank you so much to Forever for the eARC in exchange for my honest review.

I loved it. I didn’t want to put it down because of the relatable FMC who spoke so deeply to me! This is not just a lovable romance, but also touches on deep topics such as mental health, miscarriages, infertility and other heavy events. I loved how Hannah incorporated these things without it overtaking the plot. It was so well done! Onto how perfect Sybil + Jamie are for one another. GAH I am a sucker for good second chance but this was another level. They had a broken engagement and she ran from the altar. Somehow, Hannah wrote these characters out so well I totally believed their redemption here and cheered them on so hard!!! I just adored this book for many reasons. The setting of Hawaii and descriptive writing was beautiful. The girl gang in the story is top notch. The messy exes and unexpected twists, it was so fun!

I received an ARC from NetGalley for The Four Engagement Rings of Sybil Rain. This is a follow up book to Hannah Brown’s first novel, Mistakes we never made. I actually enjoyed this story more than I did the first. In the first novel, Sybil was interesting but not terribly likable so I was curious to hear more of her story. I was pleasantly surprised! This novel does a great job discussing how multi faceted most humans are. I’m a big advocate for mental health, counseling, and self care. I was happy to see all of these topics discussed in this book in positive, self aware ways. I would definitely add this one to your must read list of 2025! Thanks again for the ARC!

This falls firmly into the category of easy beach read, and I don’t hate it. As someone who loathes (and I mean LOATHES) the miscommunication trope, this is one of the few books that did it with intentionality and made it make sense given the larger ARC of the plot. Largely predictable but cheesy in the kind of way that makes you want to both hug your girlfriends and text your partner how much you love them (I did both of these things). So much about Sybil’s story resonated: the insecurity, the want to find the “real” you, and the narratives we build in our heads about the people we hold closest to us. While this is a quick, fun, and flirty beach read, Brown was able to tackle heavier topics with care. Massive thanks to Forever Publishing, Hachette Books, and NetGalley for the ARC!

Thank you to NetGalley and Forever (Grand Central Publishing) for providing this book, with my honest review below.

The Four Engagement Rings of Sybil Rain was touching and funny, taking place at one of the best escape into fiction destinations - but I really wish it was a little smoother when covering Sybil’s three engagements and her transition to getting the fourth ring.

Sybil has had a time of it with romances, going from an abusive first engagement to a runaway bride third. It’s the third engagement that leaves her with travel vouchers to a dream Hawaii location. Unfortunately Sybil runs into her poor groom at the resort and has to pretend she’s back together with her failed second engagement in order to save face. As you can imagine the hijinks were great and we do get to visit some stellar romance highs with Jamie, her ex fiance (the third). Sybil is a character who went through a lot of growth from when she was a young and defeated woman at the hands of her first fiancé to where she is today, and the story of how she got there carries a lot of importance that’s surprising to see in a romance… but it was choppy and felt like it could have been more smoothly and effectively done, giving her fiancés a little more purpose than as props. If anything kudos to this woman’s therapist and friends - not to mention herself.

I had a different ending I’d have loved to see, but despite that I enjoyed being part of Sybil’s world for a while. She’s an entertaining character in a very entertaining book which shows a lot of promise.

Hannah Brown does it again! A great summer read for 2025. After being introduced to Sybil in Mistakes We Never Made, it was great to truly hear her story and all her thoughts. The setting is beautiful and has some fun excursions. Hannah Brown writes well developed characters that you can’t help but be invested in them. Hopefully we get Nikki and Willow stories too!
