This book is pure chaotic brilliance, and I loved every minute of it. Their banter is razor-sharp, the chemistry is ridiculous, and the emotional payoff is glorious. It’s messy, magical, and completely unmissable.

If you would like to meet teenager Alex, read this book. Owen was me to a T. Hell, a decent amount of him is still me. But his resemblance to teenage Alex is truly uncanny. Every single one of his fears and habits and thoughts reflected my own. Oh, dear boy. I wish I had this book when I was younger.

While Owen is the part of this book that really captured my heart and that I connected to on a personal level, I also thoroughly enjoyed the concept and had fun with the story as a whole. There were times that I wished maybe things weren't quite so cheesy or campy, sure. Which is what kept it from a five star read. But the idea of scientists discovered a hell-like reality that completely broke apart what the human world "knew" about hell and demons and how they had zero to do with religion whatsoever was fascinating. I wish that was delved into even MORE than what we were given. Especially with the themes of prejudices and completely false views are created about an entire "people" simply because of one viewpoint. It was so much fun and totally could have been pushed into the narrative even more.

This story kept my interest, but was definitely a fluffy, low stakes ya love story. The characters are unique, but a little shallow. There are a variety of smaller conflicts in the story that are mostly easily solved. I would have liked a little more depth to both the characters and the storyline, but overall it was an enjoyable read.

3.5 rounded up. A cute rom-com about the Prince of Hell’s college exchange program and fake-dating his roommate, Owen. This was a quick read and I enjoyed the characters and how queerness was a widely accepted part of the universe. Firmly YA, I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this to readers over the age of 13.

4.25⭐️ I absolutely loved the plot of this book! The concept of a demon prince attending a human school and fake dating his roommate was both fun and interesting. The hell-themed puns were also a great touch.

The main storyline, especially the conflict and resolution between Zarmenus and Own, unfolded in a way that felt expected but satisfying. However, the minor/side characters didn’t always meet my expectations. Some of them felt like they were only there to drop eloquent one-liners before disappearing, rather than meshing more naturally with the narrative.

Overall, it was a lighthearted and enjoyable read. While it had some reflective moments, the tone remained fun throughout, and I had a great time reading it. Thank you to NetGalley, St. Martin’s Press, and Wednesday Books for the ARC!

This has to be the funniest book I’ve ever read. From page one I was laughing out loud and this never happens. And it just got better from there. I’m not a funny books kinda girl, I prefer my books with tears and a side of trauma, but My Roommate From Hell came to me at the perfect time.
I have enjoyed almost all of Cale Dietrich's previous books but this one is on another level. I absolutely adored it.
We follow Owen as he goes off to college, the problem is his roommate is literally a prince of Hell. In this world scientists recently discovered Hell exists and humanity is doing its thing and hating what they don’t understand, so it’s really important to the university, and Zarmenus(said prince of Hell) that this goes as smoothly as possible to prove that demons aren’t inherently evil.
As you can expect this is a very funny read, but it goes way deeper than a simple romcom. The way it deals with prejudices is pretty clever, and very much needed in the times we live in. There’s also talking about change of plans from what you had envisioned for your future self, which is very important for the audience that is the target of the book, and making new friendships as well as maintaining old ones when life takes you elsewhere. The romance is also so good, I cried a little bit at the end because I didn’t want it to end.
This is such a great book, please give it a chance.

When I started this one, I was a little bit concerned because it's labeled as YA romance. But, I had already downloaded it onto my Kindle, so I decided to give it a chance. And I'm so glad I did!!

Because reading about characters in college while in college is so fun. Especially when one of them is a terrible roommate (been there, done that). Owen and Zarmenus were such a silly pairing, and I loved every one of their interactions. Their friends to lovers arc was actually believable. I'd absolutely recommend this one!

Did I love this book? Hell yea I did. Pun intended. “My Roommate From Hell” was witty and adorable. Earthly scientists have discovered a rift between dimensions and found hell. Enter: the earth and he’ll exchange program. Demon Prince of Hell, Zarmenus, is the newest exchange student at Point College. Owen is just a human attending his first year at college and when he walks into his dorm he finds his original assigned roommate has been replaced with none other than the Prince of Hell. Things start off rocky in their roommate relationship with ghouls in the bathroom mirror, random seances, nightmare fuelled fires, and a demonic bat cat that barfs lava — not to mention that Zarmenus is a bit of a slob.
With internships, prophecies, and pleasing the king and queen of hell on the line, Zarmenus and Owen find themselves in a fake relationship.
I absolutely love fake dating. This was a low stakes, funny, creepy, and wonderful YA romance book and I enjoyed the hell out of it. 😉
