Description

"A hilarious and charming descent into love, fake dating, and actual Hell. I couldn't stop grinning." - Aiden Thomas, New York Times bestselling author of Cemetery Boys

A swoon-worthy YA rom com about an ambitious college student whose plans get derailed when he discovers his roommate is the prince of hell.

Owen is not going to college to have fun. Nothing is going to stop him from achieving his goals: study hard, get a good job, and set himself up for the rest of his life. The last thing he needs is to have a loud, obnoxious, and infuriatingly hot roommate. Especially since said roommate just so happens to be the prince of hell.

Prince Zarmenus has come to Point University for the first-ever Earth/hell exchange program, and he's determined to make the most of it. Which may or may not include wild parties, bringing in random boys to his and Owen's room, and accidentally setting Owen's furniture on fire. Sparks fly (literally) as Owen and Zar clash, but Zar's actions threaten to not only ruin Owen's peaceful college life, but demon-human relations as well. To clean up his image, he asks Owen to be his fake boyfriend and teach him how to be a better human in exchange for an internship that will secure Owen’s future. That, and Zar will consider being a better roommate.

A deal is struck, and the two start pretending to be in a relationship where they each have agendas of their own. Only Owen has a secret—dating his mortal enemy, even if it’s fake, is the most fun he's ever had.

Charming and fun, My Roommate from Hell is a rom com with a magical twist. Think just one bed, but that bed is in hell, surrounded by fire and brimstone.

Going off to college to live in the dorms is always an exciting adventure. Meeting a roommate who was raised with different family standards can create friction, but when your roommate is nobility from a different dimension it can be downright dangerous. On top of their interpersonal dynamic, there are politics at play to prove to the world that interdimensional relations can be friendly. Close proximity and a fake dating scheme make everything extra interesting.

Adorable new adult romance about a rule following ingénue and a party boy prince makes a great slow burn love story. Would recommend to romance lovers.

Thank you to NetGalley, Cale Dietrich and St. Martin's press for the advanced reader digital copy. All opinions expressed are my own. I can't wait to recommend to my romance loving patrons.

This book was adorable. Once I started reading, I couldn't put it down. Owen is a college freshman who was paired to room with the prince of Hell, Zarmenus. To be honest, I did not care for Zarmenus much in the beginning of the book, especially as he kept bringing hook ups back to his dorm room (reminded me of my freshman year roommate, *shutters*) but he definitely grew on me. He was a sweet little demon after all. I do think some things were glossed over in the book like the doll - what was that about? The eye that randomly showed up with no explanation at all and even the whole cult situation was wrapped up fairly quickly without any major inconveniences. However, I did like the fact that both Owen and Zarmenus did discuss their feelings a lot and there were not a lot of miscommunications which is so annoying. Also, there was no third act breakup!! I really enjoyed this book and would recommend it for anyone who wants a whimsical, low-stakes faking dating story. Thank you Netgalley for the ARC.

This book is pure chaos in the best way. It’s funny, flirty, and absolutely packed with heart. I had so much fun reading it I kept catching myself smiling for no reason. Their banter never misses and the tension builds so naturally I was rooting for them way before they realised it themselves. I loved how it balanced laugh-out-loud moments with genuine tenderness. It’s chaotic and absolutely delightful. I loved every page of it.

I loved this book! It is based on a fairly crazy concept, with a shy inexperienced gay cutie rooming at college with the prince of Hell. They embarked on a fake dating romance that took until almost the end of the book to stop being fake, but that was fine, I really enjoyed the journey!

Thanks to NetGalley for an ARC of this.

This book was so fun! The premise is so unique, and the whole book just delivered. It was funny, the romance was so cute, and there were some great side characters. If I hadn’t started this book at 11pm, I definitely would’ve read it in a single sitting, and even with that, I still almost did whoops. This book really just drew me in from the first page—it throws you right into it, and never slowed down (but in a good way).

Thank you to St. Martin’s Press and NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This book was pure chaotic delight in the best way. It’s sharp, funny, and surprisingly heartfelt beneath all the fire and fake dating. The writing has that snappy, addictive rhythm that makes every page fly, and I couldn’t stop grinning at the banter.
I loved how the romance was built on exasperation and slowly turned into something that felt honest and warm without losing its spark. There’s something so fun about a story that leans into its absurdity but still gives space for real emotion. Watching these two try to navigate their ridiculous arrangement while accidentally falling for each other was just joyful. It’s the kind of rom com that leaves you smiling, even when it’s literally set in hell. I adored it.

This book is pure chaotic brilliance, and I loved every minute of it. Their banter is razor-sharp, the chemistry is ridiculous, and the emotional payoff is glorious. It’s messy, magical, and completely unmissable.

This has to be the funniest book I’ve ever read. From page one I was laughing out loud and this never happens. And it just got better from there. I’m not a funny books kinda girl, I prefer my books with tears and a side of trauma, but My Roommate From Hell came to me at the perfect time.
I have enjoyed almost all of Cale Dietrich's previous books but this one is on another level. I absolutely adored it.
We follow Owen as he goes off to college, the problem is his roommate is literally a prince of Hell. In this world scientists recently discovered Hell exists and humanity is doing its thing and hating what they don’t understand, so it’s really important to the university, and Zarmenus(said prince of Hell) that this goes as smoothly as possible to prove that demons aren’t inherently evil.
As you can expect this is a very funny read, but it goes way deeper than a simple romcom. The way it deals with prejudices is pretty clever, and very much needed in the times we live in. There’s also talking about change of plans from what you had envisioned for your future self, which is very important for the audience that is the target of the book, and making new friendships as well as maintaining old ones when life takes you elsewhere. The romance is also so good, I cried a little bit at the end because I didn’t want it to end.
This is such a great book, please give it a chance.

Thank you Netgalley and Wednesday Books for the ARC!

Did I love this book? Hell yea I did. Pun intended. “My Roommate From Hell” was witty and adorable. Earthly scientists have discovered a rift between dimensions and found hell. Enter: the earth and he’ll exchange program. Demon Prince of Hell, Zarmenus, is the newest exchange student at Point College. Owen is just a human attending his first year at college and when he walks into his dorm he finds his original assigned roommate has been replaced with none other than the Prince of Hell. Things start off rocky in their roommate relationship with ghouls in the bathroom mirror, random seances, nightmare fuelled fires, and a demonic bat cat that barfs lava — not to mention that Zarmenus is a bit of a slob.
With internships, prophecies, and pleasing the king and queen of hell on the line, Zarmenus and Owen find themselves in a fake relationship.
I absolutely love fake dating. This was a low stakes, funny, creepy, and wonderful YA romance book and I enjoyed the hell out of it. 😉

Cale Dietrich does it again! I absolutely adored this book. The dynamic between Owen and Zarmenus was spot on perfect, with carefully crafted tension that kept you wondering “will they or won’t they?”

Enemies to lovers is one of my favorite tropes, and this was executed so splendidly. The perfect amount of animosity turned admiration.

Owen’s coming of age tale was a great backdrop to the budding romance between him and Zarmenus. It was nice to see him break out of his shell.

Thank you to St. Martin’s Press for the ARC of this fabulous book. I am glad I decided to accept it.

Funny, romantic and heartfelt, this book is perfect for anyone looking for a read that will make you fall in love - with the idea of love.

From the first page, I was entertained by this novel. I loved how the worldbuilding in this book is essentially “demons from hell exist, apparently” and then we moved on with the plot. Perfect. No notes. I adore it.

I also really enjoyed the romance between the two main leads, and how while we - as the audience - can clearly see the pining from both sides, our main character very much cannot. I’m an absolute sucker for this dynamic, and I couldn’t wait until the cards would finally be revealed by the end.

A fun and overall lighthearted read - even with the heartbreaking tension in the middle - this book will have you wondering where your demonic prince, princess, or gender nonconforming entity is hiding.

A huge thank you to the author, Netgalley, and St. Martin’s Press/Wednesday Books for providing me this e-ARC.

Thanks so much @wednesdaybooks for the advanced copy to review!

Y’all - after having a kind of depressing few days, I really, really needed to laugh. This book delivered on that and so much more.

I genuinely had the best time reading this. So much in fact that I barely put the book down last night when I got home from coffee with my friend. I read about 40% in one go the night before and finished last night.

Owen is SO SO SO relatable to me. A late bloomer. Who wants a relationship to mean something. Kisses and touch means something to him. He’s just a genuinely good person who believes the best in others. I really felt like Cale was taking parts of me and putting them right into Owen’s character.

Zarmenus was such a great character. His arc was fantastic. He was so funny and dry and sweet and protective and just a cutie patootie!!!! I was rooting so hard for these two and some of my favorite moments were when Zarmenus could tell something was wrong and he just asked Owen to explain. I really loved their relationship.

This was fake dating done in the best way, and I really, really loved it. Can’t recommend this one highly enough.

Thanks for this story @calerdietrich

This was such a fun read ! As soon as I received the arc (thanks to St Martin’s Press and NetGalley) I had to read this. Owen is starting college and he discovers his roommate is Zarmenus, the prince of hell. Zarmenus is an exchange student at Point university to show that demons aren’t so different from humans. At first, cohabitation between the two is not so easy but after some discussion, they are able to make things better for both of them. I love fake dating trope and this was really well done. While this is a light book, it still addresses bigotry and its effects on people. I had a really nice time with this book, it was short but the pacing was fast. Owen and Zarmenus are well fleshed characters. It’s definitely a must read romance if you are into fake dating trope and paranormal elements !

Owen arrives at college and discovers his roommate is the prince of Hell, Zarmenus. Owen is at school to get good grades and eventually have a good career. Zarmenus is there for the first Earth/Hell exchange program. He’s not the greatest roommate at first, but he’s funny and hot so Owen gives him a chance. Eventually they strike a deal and decide to fake date so that Zarmenus will look good to his parents and Owen will impress the Dean, who offered him an internship.

This book was genuinely so funny. The premise is funny and the characters are funny. I flew through it and enjoyed every word.

For the most part, this book is simply a fun time. There’s not anything overly serious about it, and I appreciate that. It’s nice to read a book that’s just a good time and doesn’t have a ton of trauma lol. There is some talk about parental expectations and bullying and stuff, but nothing too heavy!

I loved both Owen and Zarmenus. Their chemistry was so good and I loved them. I wasn’t really a fan of any of the side characters, but that didn’t really matter much.

I definitely recommend this book. It’s really funny, written very well, and the romance is super cute!
