I want to first say that the illustrations in the book are absolutely stunning and they kept me reading just to see what the picture would be and how well it fit with the story. The only thing that kind of felt a bit off to me is that primarily this book is aimed at children, it was hard to believe that there was only 5 out of 31 stories where the narrator of the story seemed to be younger. The stories themselves are very creative and unique premises but it was almost guaranteed that every single one is about a ghost rather that just general spooky stories. It was also a little odd for the reading level of the book to feel like it was for someone in middle school and having that language mixed in with multiple adults going through divorce and loss and alcoholism was a weird mix, I do also believe that some of the younger stories should be mixed in just a little bit better rather than getting 2 of the five back to back as the last two stories. I will say there was one story that genuinely made me uncomfortable and it was the theme park carousel one. Overall for a kids book it is good and feels like a kids book.

31 Days of Spooky is a gorgeously illustrated paranormal short story collection, a staple for the fall and Halloween time. Every story is a short tale, eerie and creepy, but not overly scary. There were definitely a few stories I was interested in reading more about. I think my favorites were "Summer Party" and "The Night Nurse". All middle grade & YA horror fans will devour this collection. Perfect as a nightstand read, especially with the beautiful cover.
P.S. The dogs mentioned do not die.
A huge thank you to Harper Celebrate and NetGalley! All thoughts and opinions expressed are mine and mine alone.

This would be the absolute perfect "every night before bed during Halloween season." I'm excited to get my hands on a physical copy of this book because while the stories were excellent, the accompanying art work is so creepy and I'm sure will be even better outside of my ipad screen. If you are a person who read: scary stories to tell in the dark, Goosebumps, those creepy campfire ghost story books you can get at campgrounds this book is absolutely for you.

Five stars for the nostalgia.
This is basically a modern version of a favorite set of books of mine from when I was a kid. Super short "scary" stories that are perfect for sharing at a slumber party or around the campfire.
Are the stories scary? Not to me. But they were still a ton of fun and I enjoyed all of them.
Although for teens (tweens maybe), I would put a tiny caution for the art. It's absolutely gorgeous (The Show Must Go On is one of my favorites), but on the darker/creepier side. Nothing graphic but a younger or more sensitive reader may find them more than a little spooky.

I love spooky season and I think this book would be a lot of fun for an October countdown to Halloween for a family or tween reader!
The stories do a good job grabbing your attention and the illustrations are beautifully done. They aren't overly spooky more so a little bit creepy or eerie. They reminded me of tales you would hear around a campfire at Summer Camp.
If you enjoy counting down to holidays I think this is definitely worth checking out!
Thank you Harper Celebrate and Net Galley for providing me with an ARC of this book. All opinions in this review are my own.

31 Days of Spooky is a fun and scary treat. Each short story grabs the reader and pulls them in to whatever horror awaits on the page. Those who celebrate Halloween the whole month of October should grab a copy of this book and read one story each day. That would be fun.

This was a cute little spooky treat! 31 YA-ish stories ( I don't think it's designated as YA, but it definitely is--if not younger). Most are pretty well written, and a few are downright eerie. 3.5 stars

I love the idea of 31 spooky stories to count down the month of October and was super excited for this book. The stories were a little more driven towards a younger audience in my opinion, and I was hoping for a bit more art with it being described as a graphic novel. I love spooky season and still enjoyed the book, although it wasn't exactly what I was hoping for. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for sending this book my way!

While the stories aren’t overly scary, they’re just the right amount of spooky for tweens! The illustrations are beautifully done and really add to the charm of each tale. With each story being about four pages long, they’re the perfect length for a quick nightly read. I’m planning to read one aloud to my 11 year old each night starting October 1—it’s going to be a fun way to count down to Halloween!

As a big fan growing up of Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark and Goosebumps this book was delightly nostaglic. I had fun reading these spooky stories. Great read for kids wanting to dip their toes in scary short stories!

Perfect for those that love reading spooky stories, no matter the time of year. I loved this collection. Each story was captivating in its own way, enough to reel me in quick and fast. This book is the PERFECT on to begin on October 1, guaranteeing that you have a spooky story to read every day of October, right until Halloween. The illustrations were wonderful and gave life to its stories.

This was a fun set of very short spooky stories that I devoured in about 2 hours. They were definitely more children level spooky, reminding me of some of the spooky short stories I read as a kid, though some were a bit darker than others. I think this could be a fun book to read with kids during the month of October as the stories only take a few minutes to read and with 31 of them, you could read one a day leading up to Halloween!
I read this as part of the Camp NetGalley challenge - thanks for the review copy!

Love the spooky stories! I think this would be a great book for the month of October. I plan to have the family read one spooky story every night on the lead up to Halloween. There was a similar book when I was a kid that I cherished and loved reading over and over. Scary stories to Tell in the Dark.

really fun short ghost stories and creepy illustrations. i liked it and had a lot of fun with these stories!

A fun, spine-tingling collection of bite-sized ghost stories perfect for the spooky season. It offers exactly what the title promises—thirty-one eerie tales you can read in one sitting, each with just the right amount of chill, mystery, or mischief. The simple but atmospheric illustrations add to the vibe and make the book feel like a complete little Halloween package.
This is a great read for teens, pre-teens, or anyone who enjoys spooky stories with a classic, campfire-style feel. The stories vary in tone and intensity, offering a mix of creepy, quirky, and twisty. Whether you're reading it each night in October, bringing it along on a creepy campout, or gifting it to a Halloween lover, this is a fun and eerie collection to have on hand.
Perfect for fans of light horror and supernatural short fiction—especially those looking for more fun than fear.

I really loved how short these stories are, and I will definitely be reading them again for the 31 days of October/halloween. A great addition to my spooky season!

A solid mix of silly, sweet, and genuinely scary supernatural stories to enjoy. It's a got a good pace, the stories switch between hauntings and deaths, to putting a spirit to rest or someone learning their lesson. A really solid collection for middle grade readers that will whet their appetites for horror, or teach them they might not be ready for a scare yet!

It's Halloween in July! I knew going into Camp Netgalley that I was going to pick anything that was going to be Fall/Halloween themed and this was my immediate pick. I actually got a lot more creeped out reading this than I thought! I thought it was going to be light spooky but many of the stories were actually really creepy! I enjoyed this and will definitely be recommending this to my friends and followers as we get into the holiday season!

Glad I didn’t read this on my kindle as it was nice to see the illustrations in colour. Good little short stories, some better than others, be great in October on the run up to Halloween- 1 a night like a spooky adventure calendar.

This was a nostalgic read, reminding me of Goosebumps and Point Horror books I read as a child! There were some good spooky stories throughout, and I’d definitely recommend for an early YA reader, who’s wanting to dip their toe into scary stories.
Thank you to NetGalley and harper celebrate for the ARC!
