A fun collection of spooky stories to guide you right into fall. A must take book for your next camping trip!

A fun and quick spooky little read! Perfect for children. Something to read to your kids while sitting around a campfire and eating s’mores.
31 stories for each day of our favorite creepy month, October! All urban legend type stories. Some stories were a bit predictable and others you wish were so much longer. My favorite inclusion were the color illustrations. So beautifully done and give the perfect spooky touch.
I wasn’t able to download this to my Kindle, but my iPad worked just fine. It showed off the illustrations better anyway.
Thank you to NetGalley for this fun little read for Camp NetGalley! Definitely the perfect Camp Read.

31 Days of Spooky was advertised as short, spooky stories for "adults and teens," however, most of the stories read middle grade. I feel like many of the stories have really great potential and a nice set up, but the endings felt abrupt and often incomplete. I do like the concept of a short story count down for Halloween, however I just don't quite know who the target audience is. I think the writing and level of horror are very middle grade while some of the subject matter is more mature and would go above a child/tween's head. I will say, #18 "Here Comes The Bride," made me laugh, along with a few others. Overall, great concept, but I think that this collection falls flat.

I feel as though this book missed the mark . While some stories were cute most were childish . This book should be marketed to a much younger audience . The illustrations were the highlight of this book .

This is a cute and creepy little book packed with frightful tales that are perfect for all ages. The stories strike a great balance—spooky enough to be fun, but never too scary. I read it in a single day and really enjoyed the variety of short stories. I'm planning to buy a physical copy for my 11-year-old son, who loves all things scary, and I feel confident this will be a perfect fit for him. If you're looking for a quick, eerie read to get into the Halloween spirit (or just love a good creepy tale), this one is a great pick!

31 days of Spooky had promise but it wasn’t quite the book for me. I love spooky stories but I felt that the majority of these fell a bit short - I’d say it’s aimed at a much younger audience. Many of the stories felt like good ideas for a spooky story but not quite rounded out enough to add suspense or scares. I really liked the story about the ghost dog but that was more sad than scary.
I liked that the stories were all only a few pages long each - it meant I got through them quickly but I felt like if they were slightly longer, the stories would be better as many of them seems to end quite abruptly.
I really liked the illustrations, they added a cool spooky touch.
Overall, this book wasn’t bad, it just probably isn’t aimed at a 30 something year old who likes horror films and stories. It would probably be a good introduction into slightly sinister stories for kids.

Thank you for the opportunity to review 31 Days of Spooky. While the stories skew more toward a middle-grade audience than teens or adults, they offer just the right amount of eerie fun for younger readers. They’re great for group reads, classroom settings, or light seasonal storytelling.
The true highlight he illustrations which are captivating, atmospheric, and beautifully designed. They elevate the entire collection and bring the stories to life in a way that makes the book feel special.
Overall, this is a fun, approachable Halloween read for families and kids who enjoy a touch of spooky without the nightmares.

As a lover of spooky stories this book appealed to me immediately. 31 stories with illustrations all leading up to Halloween? Sold! Unfortunately the reality didn't meet my expectations.
The stories all felt incomplete and weren’t very scary. This would have been fine if they were more campy and fun, but with a few exceptions there were none that really fit the bill. I did enjoy the illustrations and found them much scarier than the stories themselves.
Overall 2.5 stars for the idea of a daily spooky story leading up to Halloween and some creative illustrations, but the stories themselves need work.

The best part of this book are the illustrations. Neil Evans does an amazing job with the design of the book and the artwork. I wouldn’t mind having some of the graphics as pictures on my wall for the Halloween holidays. I just love the eeriness captured from the stories and the story they tell themselves.
I didn’t really find the 31 Days of Spooky scary or spooky. The blurb states that it’s geared for adults and teens, but I’m thinking it fits more with the middle-grade readers. I think it’s just enough of a scare tease that they might enjoy it. I agree some of these stories could be read by the camp fire by a Camp leader for troops or tween groups.
Once again, the artwork is what sells me on 31 Days of Spooky. I recommend these stories for the middle-grade crowd. It’s the start of Halloween.

This book was adorable , i think it has lovely pill sized little spooky stories perfect for the month of October to be enjoyed daily. I would really like to revisit this in the fall in this format.

I’m sorry but this one was just not for me. The stories were super short which I’m so glad about because I didn’t enjoy any of them. They were all boring and badly written hence my 1 star review.

This is a very good spooky short story collection!! I loved that while being different they still felt connected.

31 Days of Spooky is a bite-sized collection of eerie fun perfect for readers who want a little thrill without the time commitment. Each story is short and snappy, which makes this book great for daily October reads or quick hits of spooky vibes year-round. The tone stays light and atmospheric rather than truly scary, making it ideal for younger readers or anyone who prefers their chills with a wink.
The illustrations were a standout feature stylish, expressive, and perfectly paired with the tone of the stories. They really help set the mood and give the whole book a cohesive, whimsical aesthetic. Overall, this was a fun, festive little read that delivers exactly what it promises: a manageable dose of spooky every day

Most of these stories were pretty cheesy and not even remotely scary for adults but kids would have fun with these around a campfire.

I enjoyed most of the stories but wish they were a little scarier. Most of these were a little goofy or cheesy when I was hoping for stories more like ones from 'Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark'. That said this is a short and easy read that will get you in the mood for fall and Halloween!

31 Days Spooky is a short story book comprising of 31 very short ghost stories, which though aimed at adults, would be more suited to children.
Whilst there are four stories that I enjoyed more than the rest, the whole of the book is lacking in depth and spookyness.
It was a very easy read, and the pictures were really good, though to make the book fully illustrated, as it is described, there needs to be more than one per story.
Thank you to Netgalley, the publisher and author for letting me read a copy of this book in return for my honest review.

A very nice collection of short stories that took me back to my child. Summer time horror stories in the back yard.

The lights are out, you're all alone, you think you hear noises and the hairs on the back of your neck stand up. Embrace the creepy and dive into these spooky stories!
A spooktacular collection of short stories, 31 Days of Spooky covers a range of ghosts, ghouls, the supernatural, and the downright weird. Whether you enjoy open-ended stories, gory endings, or head-scratchers, you'll find a story to satisfy your spooky itch.
Ideal for kids who love creep, these stories aren't so scary that they'll keep them awake all night, but gradually introduces the uncertain, the unsettling, and the unusual to young horror fans. They're short and sweet enough you can easily read ahead and check their suitability though!
Scary fun for the kids and gentle spooky fun for adult horror fans, you'll be racing through these in 31 minutes!
Thank you to Harper Celebrate and NetGalley for access!

A collection of short “scary, creepy” stories? Sign me up! While I do think this is a middle grade book for sure, these stories were creepy, cute, and great for that age range!
THE ILLUSTRATIONS WERE WONDERFUL!! Loved them all so much.
The doll one is the only one that stuck with me because I do not mess around with dolls 🤣
Thank you NetGalley!

Unfortunately, this one didn’t quite hit the mark for me. I went in hoping for something along the lines of Goosebumps or Stinetinglers, but most of the stories felt pretty mediocre and not especially spooky.
I did really enjoy "Man’s Best Friend"—ironically, the one story that wasn’t scary at all but was instead touching and heartfelt. A few others stood out, like "Summer Party," "Family Ties," and "All That Glitters," but overall, the collection didn’t deliver the chills I was hoping for.
Also, while this is marketed for children, some stories felt oddly out of place or too mature for the age group. The illustrations were nicely done and definitely added something, but overall, it just didn’t live up to my expectations.
2.5/5 ⭐
