I DNF this because it wasn't grabbing my attention and I tried to come back to it but I just couldn't do it.

This novel is one of the best romantic thrillers that I have ever read! With multiple layers and all kinds of secrets that the main characters are hiding, this book hooked me from the beginning and didn’t let go. I was captivated by the backstory of Oaklynn, a young police constable whose goal in life is to thwart evil after being raised with evil incarnate as a child. With a new identity and a profession that gives her the satisfaction of helping others while she fights evil, Oaklynn is not prepared for the darkness to arrive in her small town of Kenorapeake Falls. The serial killings that she lived with as she grew up seem to have followed her to her idyllic location, and the copy cat committing the crimes is obsessed with Oaklynn. I really enjoyed the Canadian Watchers Squad, a group of elite and talented protectors who have the financial backing to go wherever law enforcement needs them. Caleb Greene is the Canadian Watcher who comes to Kenorapeake to help Oaklynn slay the dragon of death that is stalking the town. The link to the current deaths and Oaklynn’s past is undeniable and fascinating. The twists were fast and furious and the victims were a surprise each time a new one was found. The surprises kept coming, from the revelation about the local cult and its leader to the ultimate reveal of the copy cat killer, the one who is called “the protégé.” The creep factor is prevalent in this dark thriller, but so is faith as Caleb and Oaklynn both face the demons from their past, determined to win against the evil one currently stalking them. The themes of forgiveness and light versus darkness are the focus of the book, and the dark was so thick and penetrating that there was an ongoing question on whether the light could truly triumph. There is, of course, and undercurrent of romance, but the protagonists don’t have a lot of time to dally with one another as dead bodies keep dropping and they are the ones in the center of trying to find the villain. I enjoyed the small town setting, especially the retreat owned by Caleb’s family that was a perfect place for them to strategize plans to capture the villain as well as for them to get to know one another. This book took me on a roller coaster ride of highs and lows, the whole time with my heart pounding as I raced through the pages to the exciting and surprising climax. The novel offers a strong message of hope in its brilliantly written and complex plot. The characters are realistically flawed and believable, offering a rich character study that fascinated me and made me want to know what their next choice would be. With a compelling plot and a depth of emotion on every page, this book is one that begs to be read quickly and then to be re-read as you savor the thought-provoking dilemma and drama of the characters caught in the middle between good and evil.
Disclaimer: I voluntarily received a complimentary copy of this book from the author. I was not required to write a positive review, and all opinions expressed are my own.

God will meet you in the darkest corner and provide the light for you to escape. You just have to let Him in.
Wow, just wow! This sinister plot immerses you in darkness making you wonder if anyone can come out of it - but God. He has them all in His hands, and they must let Him be their light. Constable Oaklynn Brock has a past that she prefers not to share with anyone. This trauma shapes her whole world until she accepts the light that He has to give. But can she forgive?
This incredible story of hope and redemption was received through Love Inspired, Harlequin and NetGalley. My thoughts were in no way solicited.

One of the best books I've read this year.. lots of secrets and drama in this book. Enough romance and enough suspense to keep you on the edge of your seat

I really enjoyed reading this book! From the very beginning we get action and it doesn’t stop until the very end! If you like books with serial killers and cults this book is for you! Oaklynn is a police officer fighting her past which is merging with her present. Daughter of a serial killer she is tasked with capturing the latest one threatening her town. Caleb is a special task force officer brought in to work beside her to bring the serial killer to justice. The plot was amazing in this book! The pov of the serial killer and cult practices made it just creepy enough. I really was captivated by this book. I received a digital copy of this book from NetGalley in trade for my honest opinion. My thoughts are my own.

Echoes of Darkness by Darlene Turner is a riveting, fast-paced story filled with all kinds of twists and turns. Oaklynn Brock is a constable and while she might work in a small town, she carries a big secret. A copy cat serial killer is on the loose and is targeting Oaklynn because the killer knows her secret - that she's the daughter of the infamous Suicide Slayer. Caleb Green is part of a group called the Canadian Watchers Squad, and he's called in to help with the case. But he finds himself facing off with the past he thought he'd left behind.
This book ticks all the marks for me to be a thriller. I didn't know who the culprit was until the very end, and the story kept me guessing the whole way through. Oaklynn faced so many dangerous moments throughout the story as the killer stalked her. I will admit that I don't like stories involving cults (just one of the topics/tropes I don't prefer), and while Echoes of Darkness involves a cult, I still completely enjoyed the story and the cult added another dimension to the danger. I like the budding romance between Oaklynn and Caleb and that they helped each other deal with their past traumas. Also, I love the concept of the Canadian Watchers Squad and I hope to see other characters from the team have their own story lines.
If you are looking for a fast-paced thrilling read, look no further than Echoes of Darkness. This is one of my top favorites for my summer time must-read list!
I received an ebook review copy of this book through NetGalley. All opinions expressed in this review are my own.

Echoes of Darkness by Darlene L. Turner is a dark, suspenseful story. The author’s vivid descriptions transported me to Kenorapeake Falls, Ontario. Copycat crimes have the community up in arms and a mayor determined to get answers. The main characters are complex and developed, but they still have still have room to grow. Oaklynn and Caleb have secrets that they would prefer to remain buried, but you know that they will not (they never do). I like the sections from the killer’s point of view. They enhanced the story. Despite all the darkness in the story, there are moments of light. It is that age old tale of the dark against the light (good versus evil). We need to put our faith in God if we are to snuff out the evil within ourselves. In the story, they must combat the evil threatening their community. I quickly identified the culprit, but my mother attributes it to my extensive reading of mysteries. I enjoyed the tension, twists, thrills, and secrets. I wish that the pacing had been a tad peppier. Being thrust into danger has a way of bringing people closer. There is chemistry between Oaklynn and Caleb, and romance begins to bloom despite the dark crimes. Echoes of Darkness is a tense tale with copycat killings, a dark cult, shocking secrets, a determined mayor, finding faith, and catching a killer.

Echoes of Darkness by Darlene L. Turner was absolutely intense!! From the start of this book I could hardly put it down. Dark secrets and chilling events in the lives of the heroine and the hero kept me turning the pages for the resolve I hoped each would find in God’s timing. This is Darlene’s best mystery yet!!
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher. The opinions expressed are completely my own.

DNF. This was too much in the mind of the murderer for my preferences. I was intrigued by the characters of Oaklynn and Caleb but could not finish after reading about 20%.
Releases June 24th. I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Suspense so intense, this book had to be read in one sitting! Evil’s clutches threatened to chain Oaklynn to her past, ridding her of any chance at happiness or freedom. Caleb’s prior connection to a sinister cult held sway over any hope for the peace he so desperately sought. What would be the key to break the bondages holding them each back? Would the God of Oaklynn’s childhood show Himself strong in the face of such darkness? Could the God Caleb served protect and guide him even in the midst of impending death? I simply could not put this down, the author had me so immersed and on the edge of my seat! Excellent!!!

This was a new to me author, but I was drawn in by the book blurb and the cover! This book had a lot of moving parts and dealt with a lot of serious topics while taking the reader along to track down a serial killer. I would have preferred a little less going on. I wasn’t surprised at the killer. I had suspicions in the first chapter and was hopeful that I was wrong and that there would be some amazing twist I didn’t see coming, but I felt like it was pretty obvious who was behind everything based on the way the villains POV was placed in the book. Overall this story had moments of suspense and while it wasn’t personally one that wowed me, I would recommend to someone if they were looking for a suspense read.

Please know that this is my own review and not reflective of anything other than my opinion.
I really enjoyed this book. It captivates you right from the beginning and spins a good story. It is a story of love, and forgiveness. Darlene Turner correctly portrays the evil that this world has but does not let it overshadow God's love.

Echos of Darkness, what can I say about this book but wow!!
There's a serial killer on the loose and Constable Oaklynn Brock is searching for someone who is copying her serial killer father's patterns. Known as the Suicide Slayer, her father was put in prison on her testimony. But changing her name and moving has her in the copycat's crosshairs.
Caleb Greene of the special task force, the Canadian Watchers Squad, is brought in to help along with the rest of his team. Because not only is there a copycat killer, but a very dangerous cult is targeting the young people of the town. With old secrets from their pasts haunting them both, Caleb and Oaklynn must work together to stop the cult and the serial killer.
This book was a real page-turner. It drew me in and kept me reading. Every time I thought I had the killer figured out, I was wrong. But in the end when the killer was revealed, mind-blowing!!

Loved the book. Good story line. Good characters. Well written. Highly recommend reading.
I received an advance ebook and I am voluntarily leaving my review.

This book was an outstanding and fascinating romantic thriller! I could not put it down and I could not turn the pages fast enough! Darllene Turner will take you on a twisty dark thrill ride to Kenorapeake Falls a sleepy little town in Ontario.
There you will meet Oaklynn,Brock a Constable with plenty of secrets and is struggling to keep an evil darkness from overwhelming her. She also struggles with the idea of giving her life over to God who she blames for al the darkness in her life. OakLynn is tasked with looking into a series of suicides that are actually the work of a serial killer taking place in Kenorapeake Falls. They also have a cult they discover at one of the deaths. As the suicides continue and they discover more about the cult they bring in The Canadian Watchers Squad to assist her team. There she meets Caleb Greene who also has secrets of his own. Together they have been though a huge amount of trauma and evil in there earlier lives. Caleb is still struggling to put trauma behind him and give forgiveness to those who have hurt him. Together they must put there past behind them to catch a serial killer working his way to Oaklynn. Caleb also reminds OakLynn that we all have darkness within ourselves we have to choose to follow God.
There was a lot of evil darkness in this book through cults and it touches on child abuse but I love the way Darlene Turner wove light throughout the book and shows that light and good will always triumph over darkness if we let it and usually comes out even brighter and stronger in our lives! She also adds a touch of which is perfect.
While this genre of romantic thriller is not Darlene L Turners usual genre I sincerely hope she writes more thrillers with faith and romance. This book was excellent and I'm giving it 5 stars. This was the second book I've read by this author but she's definitely on my must read authors list now! I want to thank Netgalley and the publishers for this early copy for my honest opinions and review.

Oaklyn Brock, Caleb Greene, Light Paragons...Find out what all three of these have in common in "Echoes of Darkness. Oaklyn has secret knowledge of how serial killers think. She and Caleb are tasked with finding a killer who is using a previous killer's MO. This is definitely a must read book if you like Christian mystery-with a little romance thrown in. This book handles some dark subjects and helps you understand them better. You won't know to near the end who is responsible and why. Highly recommend this book. I am on the ARC team but these are my thoughts

Darlene Turner has done a marvelous job with this story. I simply couldn't put it down! Wow!
Lots of twists and turns that I never saw coming!
I think Caleb seemed to be good for Oaklynn. In my opinion I thought they made a good team.
Life's experiences definitely shows in these two as they help to solve a crime.
I normally don't like Phycology thrillers but this one definitely had my interest so I read it all the way through.
I like how the author shows there is light at the end and sometimes through if we only look in the midst of our storms of life.
Secrets eventually do come out even in death. Turner has portrayed this very well.
I'm giving this 5 stars for a job well done and for keeping my attention all the way through.
I highly recommend.
My thanks for a copy of this book. I was NOT required to write a positive review. All opinions expressed are mine.

Echoes of Darkness is an unputdownable psychological thriller filled with drama, dark secrets, faith, and a bit of romance. A captivating storyline with brilliantly placed twists, compelling characters, and suspenseful pacing quickly snared me into the narrative and effectively kept me invested and reading intently to the end. Both Oaklynn and Caleb are burdened with traumatic pasts that they must revisit, embrace, and heal from to help them stop a copycat serial killer. I appreciate the strong light of faith that shines through the darkness of the criminal mind. Also, Caleb's resolute faith is an encouraging inspiration as Oaklynn's faith wavers. The challenging blossoming romance adds another layer of emotional interest to the narrative. I totally enjoyed this story and would love to see future books like this featuring some of the other Canadian Watcher Squad "family" members.
I read an early copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley with no obligation to write a positive review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

CALLING ALL CHRISTIAN SUSPENSE READERS: This is NOT one to miss! Add it to your TBR now. You’ll thank me later.
Darlene L. Turner has a twisty, dark, thriller in store for you. She’ll transport you to the small city of Kenorapeake Falls, Ontario and introduce you to Constable Oaklynn Brock who is currently working on the Suicide Slayer case. Oaklynn and her team are working with Caleb Greene and the Canadian Watchers Squad and are driven to identify the killer and stop the murders. You’ll soon learn that Oaklynn and Caleb are hiding shocking secrets that each other needs to know in order to better serve the team.
This book has dark overtones; after all, it’s centered around a serial killer. However, the author invites the light into the story and shows that despite the darkness rearing its ugly head, the light always reemerges, shining much brighter. She encourages us to be that light for others.
Oaklynn’s character arc is amazing. She’s got so much baggage and struggles to put her faith in a God who allowed all the wickedness she endured. Caleb reminds her that we all have darkness within us, but we need to choose to snuff it out. I loved the imagery of needing to put on God’s armour to fight the evil encroaching Kenorapeake Falls. We need to don the same armour, too.
The inclusion of the serial killer’s point of view added to the tension and knowing his plans and motives before the citizens of Kenorapeake Falls did made reading intense.
Turner’s focus on cults was eye-opening.
Past child abuse is alluded to, not described and redemption and light is always the focus.
I was gifted this copy by the publisher through NetGalley and was under no obligation to provide a review.

This is definitely one of the best books I have read in a long time. Darlene L Turner is one of my must-read authors, and has surpassed my expectations for her first trade book. This story is darker than her normal Love Inspired Suspense books, but there is enough faith and light woven throughout to prevent the darkness from overwhelming you. The intrigue and mystery is on-point. The friction between the main characters is engaging, while their attraction is captivating. Ms. Turner did an excellent job of concealing the identity of the killer until the appropriate moment.
Outstanding and fantastic are the first words to come to mind in describing this book. I recommend Echoes of Darkness for anyone who enjoys reading suspense thrillers with a touch of faith. "I could not put it down" is a phrase that honestly applies to this book. You don't want to miss it!
