This was a fun and steamy historical romance with a road trip twist! Daisy and Lucien have history, he broke her heart five years ago, and now they’re forced to travel together to Scotland on a mission to stop an elopement. The banter, tension, and chemistry between them make for an entertaining ride. I loved Daisy’s bold, independent spirit and Lucien’s soft side, especially how he took care of her during a migraine, such a sweet moment!
The story has some of my favorite tropes: forced proximity, one bed, enemies to lovers, and second chances. While I didn’t love Lucien at first, he grew on me. Some parts felt a little rushed, especially the change in Lucien’s feelings, but I still enjoyed the journey. If you like witty dialogue, strong heroines, and historical romance with humor and heart, this one’s worth picking up!

Daisy has never forgotten Lucien, her brother's friend. She has been attracted to him for years, but he rejected her. Forced to go on a road trip with the man. Daisy must fight her continued desire for him. Lucien is still attracted to Daisy and courts scandal as they travel together alone. Will they be able to resist their desire? I received an ARC from NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for my honest review.

I love Kate Bateman’s writing and Her Majesty’s Rebels has been a series that I’ve really enjoyed so I was excited to read *Road Trip with a Rogue*.
It took me a good while to get into this one as I had a couple of issues almost immediately -
*I despised Lucien (MMC)
*road trips aren’t a favorite trope of mine
But I kept at this and by the 60% point, I was much more interested.
*enemies to lovers
*road trip
*forced proximity
*one bed
*miscommunication
I’ve read all the titles in this series and you could read this one as a standalone, but you’d be missing out.
**(also, in the very first chapter put Adam Ant’s Stand and Deliver in my head and I needed to listen to it before I could read any further.)
Thank you to St. Martin’s Paperback and NetGalley for the DRC

This was another strong Bateman HR, I have loved this series with this group of girl friends- strong, independent, bold, take no sh*t ladies and of course men that find out they love them first and don’t know what to do.
This is a funny meet cute- second chance for these two, five years later-grown up but still the chemistry is burning up! We have a carriage ride to Scotland that is so full of banter, wit, forced proximity with one room/bed/carriage it’s perfect.
The migraine rep was perfect and loved soooo much! It was spot on and made me love Lucien even more for his caring and empathy.
Overall, this is such a fun read just like the rest of the series. I loved that this was out of london and almost all on a road trip, excellent plot and setting. I love Bateman’s writing so much so I would highly recommend this or any of her books.

This book was fantastic and a perfect end to the series!! I loved the characters’ chemistry and their chaotic journey; I was constantly invested!! This book was a fun and delightful read! Highly recommend!!

Who can resist a humorous not-really-frenemies-but-they-act-like-it tale with highwaymen, a couple of airheads eloping, a woman paid to stop them, and a war veteran duke supposedly helping her? Not me! Love all the snark and sniping, teasing and tension. Who will win?

I requested to read and review this book for free from St. Martin's Publishing Company. This book you will not want to pur down until your done! This story line has romance, drama, mystery, and suspense! Author Kate Baterman has wrote another great book. Daisy is head strong and knows what she wants to do with her life. She is independent and doesn't need anyone to tell her what to do. But an accidental meeting has her life spinning out out of control. Can she stop the spinning herself or will she need help? Will there help come from her friends and King and Country or will someone else aid her? Vaughn has been to war and it has changed him. He knows what he wants in life and will he be able to obtain it? Read to find out. This book is for a mature reader but can be read anywhere!

While I enjoyed the characters and the overall story of the book - Daisy is working for King Investigations, and trying to stop a young couple from eloping to Gretna Green - I felt the pacing was off, and one of the things I hate the most in a story is the feeling of being forced Into something, which happens at the end of this book.
Daisy is traveling to Gretna Green, and comes across Lucian Vaughan along the way. He "helps" her catch up with the couple - too late, of course. Five years ago Daisy fell in love with Vaughan but he didn't appear to return the sentiment. So this entire book is Daisy fighting her feelings for Vaughan, and then somewhere in there he decides that he *also* has been in love with her for years? I found that part of the story annoying - though I guess it was explained by his going off to war and not wanting to be serious about anyone if he wasn't going to be coming back. Anywho, it seemed disingenuous on Vaughan's part to act like he had always loved her, when that wasn't clearly the case earlier on.
Also, he put his thumb on the scale of the couple Daisy was following *and* for much of the rest of the book Daisy ostensibly was "required" to marry Vaughan but he never seemed all that serious about her. Long story short, I got into it but the second half moved it down from a 4 star to a 3 star book for me.
I received an advanced copy and am giving an honest review.

This is a well-written, entertaining, fast paced, historical romance novel. It has a likable, bold female protagonist, a kind and caring male protagonist, an engaging mission, witty banter, supportive friends, sizzling chemistry, a heartwarming romance and a gratifying conclusion. This is the third entry in Kate Bateman's outstanding Her Majesty's Rebels series, and it can be read and enjoyed as a stand alone. Many thanks to St. Martin's Press, Ms. Bateman, and NetGalley, from whom I received an advanced reader copy of this delightful novel. This is my honest opinion.

A race against time with opposing goals
Dorothea - Daisy to her friends - has been hired to stop the elopement of a young couple. Complicating matters is the young man's uncle, the new Duke of Cranford and Daisy's nemesis. He has a conflicting agenda, which he keeps under wraps so he can manipulate Daisy's travel options to prevent her from completing her assignment. This is the only problem I had with the story - he's not the least bit repentant, even after she finds out, and his smug entitlement made it hard for me to like or respect him.
Daisy and Lucien have a Scarlett & Rhett relationship, which admittedly is fun to watch as it develops into a more solid romance. Danger finds them on this haphazard road trip, along with a notorious gossip, a situation that seems to call for a marriage of convenience. All along, our duke is crafty and cunning, playing chess with everyone's lives to suit his own selfish moods. That he eventually falls in love with Daisy is about his only redeeming quality, but Daisy is such a delightfully determined warrior that if she forgives him, we must too.
It's not as solid a story as the previous two books in this series, but if you've read those you certainly don't want to miss this one. All in all, it was a fun road trip with a strong, valiant lady and a man who would be called Adam Henry today.

First, thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for giving me a copy of Road Trip with a Rogue by Kate Bateman in exchange for an honest review. This is book three in Bateman's Her Majesty's Rebels series. I have read book one, but not book two as of yet. Let me start by saying I loved this book!!! While I can't compare it to book two, I thought it was better than book one- which is what a series should do in my opinion- just get better! Here we have the story of Daisy and Lucien who shared a kiss some five years before and both of them have regretted not pursuing something since. Of course, since this is enemies to lovers, we have a base misinterpretation that, while it hasn't stopped the desire of our characters for each other, has made Daisy resentful and 'hate' Lucien. In the course of the road trip they end up on, they become more 'frenemies' than anything else. We see them get into one scrape after another which causes them to become closer while Daisy tries her best to also stay distant. Lucien, of course is determined to pursue her. It was fun, funny and all the things that make a romance great!!!

Daisy wants to stop a wedding. Lucien wants the wedding to go on, if only to get his nephew out of his house. This author has a fantastic way of weaving a tale full of banter, angst, loss, romance, adventure and love. I adored how they met again, after one very embarrassing meeting (at least for Daisy) many years ago. What transpires is a chaotic chase to Greta Green, and what ends up being Daisy ‘s potential ruin. I loved how Lucien had her back every step of the way. His inability to articulate his love was so heart wrenching and her inability to catch on was frustrating . It was so good to see characters from the previous stories in the series and how they played into the ending. (Which was unexpected and so delightful!) . As always, I marked the rating down because of the f-bomb use….it is JUST NOT NECESSARY to me and was glad to see that about a third of the way through the author stopped using it. (Thank you, Author) All the twists and turns of this story kept me enthralled and the wittiness kept me giggling. So glad Daisy finally got her story!
I received this story for free and these are my own views.

Third book of an excellent series. Funny, witty, passionate, steamy, action packed. Another hard to put down book from a most wonderful storyteller!
I received an .ARC of this book and leaving my review voluntarily.

Well I absolutely loved this one. I thought it was a freaking delight from start to finish! Daisy was the most fun heroine and Lucien, the Duke, was completely charming. I adored the forced proximity of it all, and their banter was just elite. Also, the care taking? Give me more. I was living for those moments between them. I had the best time reading this book.

I requested the ARC of Road Trip with a Rogue thinking I had read the first two books in this trilogy but then realized it was another Kate Bateman series that I was thinking of (who writes excellent historical romance and you can’t go wrong if you’re a fan!). It ended up not mattering because Road Trip with A Rogue can be read as a standalone which is exactly what I did although I’ll be going back to read the two that I missed.
Daisy Hamilton values her independence, in an era where women don’t have any. She has a job as an investigator with King and Company and an income of her own. Thankfully her father hasn’t pushed her to get married either. When she holds up the wrong carriage, expecting a young couple whose elopement she’s supposed to stop, she’s not expecting Lucien Vaughan, the Duke who broke her heart five years ago and who she’s been avoiding ever since. As they set off across England towards Scotland in pursuit of the young couple together, she doesn’t realize that Lucien has his own agenda, partially with the young couple but also with her. They have a lot of history in their relationship to overcome and some trust issues but ultimately this was such a good historical romance and I would highly recommend.
Thanks to Netgalley and St. Martin’s for the ARC.

Kate Bateman writes the most delightful historical romances, and Road Trip with a Rogue is another winner.
This is the third book in the Her Majesty's Rebels series. You don't need to read the previous books to read this one, but they're really fun and I highly recommend them.
Daisy Hamilton is a duke's daughter, and she and her best friends run King & Co., a private investigation firm. Daisy is in charge of their latest case, trying to prevent a wealthy debutante from eloping to Scotland. Unfortunately, her first attempt at stopping them ends with her holding up the carriage of Lucien Vaughan, Duke of Cranford, a war hero, rogue, and the man who broke Daisy's heart 5 years ago when she offered herself to him before he left to fight in the Napoleonic wars.
Daisy grudgingly accepts Lucien's help in getting to Scotland to chase the eloping couple, who are farther ahead of her than she thought. Forced together on a road trip, the two are forced to confront their past and their lingering feelings. And of course, there's an inn with only one bed.
I love a historical road trip, and this one is perfect. It's got bickering and banter, fear of discovery, and lots of steam. Daisy is a bit prickly and she's still very hurt by Lucien's rejection, so he has a lot of work to do to overcome her mistrust of him. Lucien is extremely charming and not quite as much of a rogue as Daisy believes. He carries the scars of war, and he's working hard to overcome Daisy's reluctance to give him another chance (and being extra careful since Daisy carries a lot of knives!). The romance is alternately tender and acerbic.
This book had the most accurate description of a migraine that I've ever read. As a migraine sufferer, I really felt Daisy's pain in this scene.
Kate Bateman is a great place to start with historical romance if you want to explore the genre.

The third installment to this series and a worthy edition.
They’ve known each other for years, but they meet again on a dark highway. They both have reasons to give into temptation, but what happens when they both allow themselves to feel something stronger than just lust?
Road trip books are not my favorite but even a trope I don’t usually enjoy can be good in the hands of the right author. We’ve got a road trip story which means a ONE BED moment or two. These two have feelings for each other but their thinking gets in the way sometimes.
I overall enjoined this story and recommend it.
Thank you St Martin’s Press for the ARC.

Title: Road Trip with a Rogue
Author: Kate Bateman
Genre: Romance
Rating: 4 out of 5
Mistakenly holding up the coach of the man who broke her heart is bad enough, but having to endure his sinfully alluring company all the way to Scotland is Daisy Hamilton’s worst nightmare . . . and her most secret desire.
A midnight mishap.
Daisy Hamilton’s new mission for King & Co., London's premier private investigation firm, is simple: stop heiress Violetta Brand from eloping. But her case is derailed when she mistakenly holds up the carriage of Lucien Vaughan, Duke of Cranford—cynical war hero, infamous libertine, and the very man who broke her heart five years ago.
A reluctant road trip.
Lucien’s determined to see his lovestruck nephew married to Miss Brand, but the unexpected appearance of Daisy— the one woman he’s never been able to forget—could ruin his plans. As they follow the runaway couple together, Lucien decides that delaying the headstrong Daisy by any means possible—including seduction—will be his absolute pleasure . . . and hers.
A dangerous desire.
After Daisy’s reputation is threatened, Lucien makes a scandalous claim, but when an unexpected enemy threatens her life, he realizes she’s the only woman for him. Their past encounters have made Daisy almost as jaded about love as Lucien himself, and it’s going to take action, not words, to convince this knife-wielding hellion to risk her heart on him again...
I’ve enjoyed the Her Majesty’s Rebels series, and this one was solid, too. Nothing out of the ordinary, but a good comfort read, for fans of this genre. Believable characters, some good banter, and a nice dose of adventure make this a fun read.
Kate Bateman is a bestselling author. Road Trip with a Rogue is her newest novel.

As usual amazing book by the author and a great addition to the series . Second chance is not my favorite troupe but this wasn't really that. Daisy and Lucien knew each other but were never together.

This was a fun “road trip” romp with a fierce and able female lead. It wasn’t one of my favorite Kate Bateman reads, but it was still solid! She has her format down pat by now and it doesn’t disappoint. I was just hoping for more tension and back/forth between the two leads.
