All the stars. This book is hilarious. If you love Nate’s stand-up, you’ll love this—same kind of confused logic, accidental wisdom, and deadpan delivery (highly recommend listening to the audiobook). It somehow feels both incredibly dumb and sneakily smart.
Super quick, super funny. Honestly, it’s like getting a peek inside the brain of the funniest, most bewildered man alive. Loved it.

“Big Dumb Eyes” is a collection of biographical comedic stories by the renowned comedian Nate Bargatze. It’s genuinely laugh-out-loud funny, especially in audiobook format, where Bargatze himself narrates.
In this collection, he shares anecdotes from his childhood, his journey into adulthood, his struggles to succeed, and his experiences meeting his wife, among other topics.
This book is guaranteed to brighten your day with his humorous insights and self-deprecating wit. I highly recommend it to both fans of his work and anyone in search of a good laugh. A special thanks to NetGalley, Hachette Audio, and Grand Central Publishing for providing me with an advance listen of this comedic gem.

Nate Bargatze is one of my all time favorite comedians so I was so excited to see he wrote a book! This was SO FUNNY! I highly recommend the audio cause it really just felt like a 4 hour long comedy special and I was cracking up through the whole thing!
Thank you to NetGalley and Hachette audio for the ALC!

Nate Bargatze gives hope to dumb people everywhere. If he can make it, anyone can.
Nah... I'm a huge fan of Nate. I'm glad to get the chance to learn more about him and his early life. As a fellow southern Christian male who grew up poor, I can relate to so many of his stories. I love the deadpan humor, the offensive terms of endearment, and the outpouring of emotion that he displays in this book. I'm so happy for this guy... to find success in comedy while still being "clean". I absolutely loved this book.
Notes:
Nate's voice for the narration of the audiobook is essential.
Nate's friend got his nickname from getting hit with a football in the pee pee.

Thank you for the audiobook!! I am a long time fan of Nate and had high expectations for this book— It was as great as I hoped! I was especially excited about the audio. Nate’s voice and delivery and cadence is such an integral part of his comedy and it added so much to the reading experience. There were even some fun additions like music and sound effects that made me smile. This book had me laughing out loud while I was cooking, but I also really appreciated the more vulnerable essays on Nate’s family, particularly his dad. I have preordered a print copy because I need to be able to see all the photos referenced!

This book is full of some funny anecdotes from the author's life. It was enjoyable and if you like his comedy, you'll like this. I recommend the audio, the narration is well done and the author narrating always makes it more enjoyable. At times this borders on too self-deprecating and repetitive, so my rating is more for the content of the book than the narration. Thank you to Hachette Audio for the ALC to review.

I want to start off by saying I do enjoy Bargatze as a comedian. I don't know much about his personal life, so I was excited to dive into this. I think he's hilarious, and his humor comes forward in his writing. Since he narrates the book himself, his humor and personality shines in this. Those who enjoy his standup or parts on SNL will probably enjoy this as well.
However, for me, this was disappointing. Bargatze's voice was about all I enjoyed about this. Overall, most of the stories were surface level and uninteresting. This wasn't super long, but it felt like a lot was repeated throughout.
I don't want to be one of those people who say that only those who have a story to tell should write memiors, but I think the oversaturation of celebrity memiors leads to a lot of boring ones.

I am a huge fan of Nate Bargatze. I have seen him in person and his comedy specials and when I saw he was writing a book, of course, I added it to my TBR and pre-ordered a copy. Thanks to NetGalley, I was able to listen to the book read by Nate himself. It did not disappoint. Full of more stories and anecdotes, this is a book that can be enjoyed by all age levels.
