Brian Jones tackles a subject that hits differently, depending upon the individual. I know people have always heard, 'black history is american history... well, pick up this book if you are interested in Brian Jones perspective. This book is informative, and thought inducing, facing head on , the themes that pop up in the news, table conversation, or just family gatherings.

Thanks to NetGalley for the free Kindle book. My opinions are my own and are freely given.
After listening to the gaps people had in the education, I know that my public school did so much better, at least in history and social studies. At the same time, there were huge gaps, probably partly with limited time and the fact that my teachers had learned the same white-washed version of history.
I love learning history, whether it is reading about it or even just watching Tiktoks. This book was very interesting and informative. I really enjoyed learning more about the Black Panthers.
Would recommend this to anyone wanting to learn more about Black history. Which everyone should.

A solid overview of the overlooked, de-contextualized (read: "white-washed") and misremembered history of Blacks in America. Each chapter is loaded with information but the writing is clear and easy to follow. I learned quite a bit and would definitely recommend this as a key volume in understanding US history, particularly in our current political environment.
