A popular meteorologist in Detroit goes missing during her shift and turns up dead the next day. Before she vanished she handed a letter with names on it to an intern. We then get POV from each suspect (and a few bonus characters).

The chapters were short and the cast was small and easy to keep track of. This was a quick and easy read but I had the hardest time finding someone to root for. There was also a lot of emotions here, we learn about Faiths childhood trauma and how it shaped her difficulties as an adult. I would say this falls more in the dramatic mystery genre than thriller.

Thank you NetGalley for the ARC.

I loved Jessie Garcia’s debut The Business Trip so I jumped at the chance to review her sophomore novel, The Fair Weather Friend.

As a lifelong Chicagoan, I understand the love of the weather reporter (Tom Skilling forever.) I loved the multiple POVs and the fact that it wasn’t hard to keep the characters straight. Also, shout-out to Carol for being so off the wall, I loved it. The book moved quick, but I think the ending fell flat, it could have used a couple more chapters to amp it up.

Overall, I really enjoyed the book.

I was invited by the publisher to review this book. Faith is a TV meteorologist in Detroit, and one day she is found dead. Popular and known on TV as "The Fair-Weather Friend", many suspects come to light as her list of troubling relationships becomes known; she had a stalker and many fans. The story then provides accounts of many people who may have had a motive in Faith's murder.

This was another great read from this author; the book is fast-paced, and while there are many viewpoints, the list of characters never became confusing and they each had their own unique personality. I loved that as a reader there were many avenues provided as to who could have hurt Faith, and the ending was such a surprise, I did not see it coming.

This was a beautiful sophomore novel by Jessie Garcia, who also penned the fantastic book, The Business Trip. I read it in one sitting!

The Fair Weather Friend is about a beloved weather woman, Faith, who is murdered near the station where she works. The book follows several POVs of those who knew her well, and those who FELT like they knew her well.

The station is quick to hold a memorial and set up a fund in Faith's honor as her many followers grieve. But was she actually worthy of such love and admiration? Those in her inner circle knew a very different woman than who appeared on TV. Many of those people would benefit if she died, but who was the one who actually went through with getting rid of Faith?

Was it Matthew, the other weatherman, who was passed over for a promotion so Faith could be in the spotlight? Was it her old childhood friend who she had wronged? Maybe the station's executive producer?

Maybe it was even her stalker.

The book has numerous POVs and a shifting timeline, which made it a quick read. The characters are captivating, so you won't want to put it down.

My biggest issue was the ending, which fell a little flat to me. I think one more chapter to help wrap things up would have made it go from four to five stars for me. Either way, it's a can't miss book!

Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC!

Although I flew through this book due to alternate POVs, short chapters, and some clever twists I didn’t think it was quite as good as the author’s other book. The dialogue and the characters were extremely corny, and some of it was very far-fetched, but this was a fun one to read!

Thank you NetGalley for this arc!!

The Fair Weather Friend by Jessie Garcia was such a pleasant surprise—it completely pulled me in with its warmth, charm, and clever twists. I instantly connected with the main character; she felt so real, like someone I’d want to be friends with in real life. Her wit and determination made her a joy to follow, and the way she navigated small-town secrets felt both authentic and suspenseful.

I especially loved how Garcia explored the complexities of friendship—how people change, how trust is tested, and how sometimes, it’s the people closest to us who hold the biggest surprises. The mystery kept me on my toes the whole time, and I genuinely didn’t guess the ending!

This book gave me everything I want in a cozy mystery: a relatable heroine, a compelling plot, and that comforting small-town setting with just enough drama to keep things interesting. I’m already looking forward to reading more from Jessie Garcia!

“The Fair Weather Friend” was such a wild ride! It kicks off with the murder of a local meteorologist and just snowballs from there. As the investigation digs deeper, all these buried secrets start coming to light, and let me tell you that some of them are jaw-dropping. The twists are nonstop, and just when you think you’ve figured it out, the story takes another sharp turn. It’s a smart, well-paced thriller that totally kept me hooked from start to finish. Definitely recommend if you love a mystery that keeps you guessing the whole way through. 4.25 ⭐️

This is a fast moving book that's fun to read. The changing points of view keep you wondering and trying to figure out the real story. I suspected part of the ending, but the full story (and the ending) surprised me.

This book starts out with Channel 9 news fans, Carol & Jim Hennings. Their niece Olivia is working as an intern for Channel 9. They all love Detroits very own turned meteorologist, Faith Richards. You get introduced to all the main characters/suspects in the first 7 chapters. It’s a bit hard to get into as you have a lot of POV’s to get to and keep straight. It’s not a quick moving story by any means and a little predictable. All in all well written book. A good mystery that will make you start questioning every twist and turn the author takes you on.

Faith a rising popular weather girl in Detroit is found dead. Are her hidden secrets to blame?
This book is more of a cozy mystery. It can drag on in some spots but overall it’s a good read. Aunt Carol is a fun character that you will enjoy.

I was so excited to read this after reading her other title, The Business Trip. But this one fell flat for me. The writing was choppy and novice. Reminded me a lot of Frieda McFadden books, so if you like her, this might be great for you. I enjoyed the multiple characters point of views and found them easy to follow along. But the end was a bit far fetched and unrealistic.

“The Fair Weather Friend” is a gripping and suspenseful read centered around the shocking murder of a local meteorologist. As the investigation unfolds, secrets come to light, and the revelations are as surprising as they are satisfying. Full of twists and tension, this is a cleverly crafted thriller that keeps you turning the pages.

I flew through this book due to alternate POVs, short chapters, and some clever twists. The dialogue and the characters were extremely corny, and some of it was very far-fetched, but this was a fun one to read by the pool.

Faith Richards is The Fair Weather Friend. She’s a celebrity meteorologist, known for her weather themed earrings and bubbly on-air personality. The real Faith is not that sunny person. Haunted by childhood tragedy and abuse, suffering from a compulsive shopping addiction and other more serious problems, Faith is a bundle of anxiety. She can’t wait to find a better life away from the cameras - with enough cash to support it, of course. The success of her carefully planned escape will depend on others. Others who may or not be her friends.

This compulsively readable thriller is told by multiple narrators - an intern, a fan, a rival meteorologist, Faith’s sister and more. Many of these people are not particularly likable while others have very powerful reasons to dislike Faith. And everyone of them is hiding something. The Fair Weather Friend is a fast paced, captivating read set against the background of a daily TV news program. You may think you’ve figured it out but the plot is always changing. 5 stars.

Thank you NetGalley, St. Martin’s Press and Jessie Garcia for this ARC.

So much fun! Jessie Garcia is officially an auto read author for me after tearing through both this and The Business Trip. I legitimately was surprised by the way the plot went which I love!

I devoured the author's debut novel, The Business Trip, so I was super excited to read her new venture. Unfortunately, I didn't find it as thrilling, and I have extremely mixed feelings about it. The beginning was slow and somewhat confusing with several characters introduced, each of them having their own POVs. It took a while for them all to come together and click for me and I appreciated having the different views, but the resolution for each character was not represented well. What happened to Kelly? We were only given one sentence conclusions at the end for most of them. I needed more. The writing was subpar at best, and I was bored to death with all of the TV news information. There was no sense of intensity or suspense. With that being said, I did enjoy the mystery of what happened to Faith. There were quite a few suspicious characters and any one of them could have been guilty. The story itself was interesting, and I was drawn to it like kids to the ice cream man. I was surprised by this since I almost DNFed a few times. The ending was a bust though. Very anticlimactic. I think that this book will either be a hit or miss with readers. I wouldn't classify it as a thriller, but more of a mysterious drama. I would still recommend since we all have different opinions. I personally found it to be just ok.

I started this domestic thriller expecting to love Faith Richards, the sunny TV meteorologist who vanishes one night and turns up dead. Instead, I found myself trudging through a maze of unlikeable characters, struggling to care about anyone's fate as Garcia's multi-POV storytelling left me constantly scrambling to piece together connections.

For the first two-thirds, I'll admit I was tempted to DNF as I couldn't find a single character to root for. But something shifted in that final act and I became caught up in twists I never saw coming. Garcia's rapid-fire style finally clicked, pulling me deep into secrets that had been lurking beneath Detroit's surface all along.

The ending stung a bit as I wanted that satisfying justice. But sometimes the bad guys do win, and Garcia doesn't shy away from that uncomfortable truth.

Despite my initial frustration, "The Fair-Weather Friend" won me over when it mattered most. It's the kind of book that makes you forgive its flaws because those final revelations are so good. Garcia knows how to craft a mystery that stays with you, even when the journey there tests your patience.

A big thank you to St. Martin's Press and NetGalley for providing an advanced reader copy in exchange for an honest review.

I loved Business Trip by Jessie, but this one fell flat for me. It seemed more simple writing, kind of predictable, and just not that interesting. I turned to the back to see what happened to Faith, and didn't even finish it.

A fast paced murder mystery that is hard to put down. The whole town went into mourning when local weather TV meteorologist was found murdered. The book is a full-length suspense told from multiple POV’s. Faith was loved by her fans but not liked by her co-workers. Overflowing with suspense and full of drama. The ending is fairly easy to guess. I enjoyed it and the characters were well developed. I read a free advance copy via Net Galley and voluntarily chose to review it.

It's always sunny in Detroit for Faith Richards. The popular TV meteorologist, endearingly referred to as "The Fair Weather Friend" by her viewers, has the world by the tail. But one night, Faith leaves work on a dinner break and never returns. Her body is found the next morning. The town is reeling, suspects emerge, and long-buried secrets are uncovered. While her allies rally, her list of adversaries also grows. Little does anyone know that only the deepest secrets will expose the truth! Good book! This book was a bit different to me but a good different! It had suspense, great mystery, murder, intrigue, stalking, and some shocking moments! The story was very interesting! I definitely recommend reading this book! Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for sharing this book with me!
