I'm absolutely enamored with Richard Osman's Thursday Murder Club series, and The Impossible Fortune (book five) is another winner!
Osman's writing is outstanding. In each book, we continue to learn more about the Murder Club members and their families, in a very emotional and heartfelt way. The mystery plots are always so clever and witty. I love Osman's references to places in the UK and his occasional use of British slang words that are new to me, all of which keeps me googling and feeling like I'm really there with the characters.
Each of the books is stand-alone worthy, but reading the series in order will give you an even greater understanding of the characters' evolving lives and their relationships.
Thank you very much to the publisher, the author and NetGalley for providing me with an e-ARC of the Impossible Fortune to read and review.

I always appreciate NetGalley for providing me the opportunity to read this title before its release. The Impossible Fortune follows the Thursday Murder Club gang as Elizabeth encounters an individual who claims someone is trying to kill him. He and his partner have a secretive business that has potentially brought in enemies
The writing is lighthearted, humorous, but also touchingly melancholic as Richard Osman explores avenues of aging and its consequences. There are moments of sadness as characters learn the limits age puts on them. The plot keeps the reader interested throughout, with many arising questions as to who is the culprit. But as the story got further and further along, I experienced it to grow more tedious. I just wanted it to be done. Furthermore, the reveal of the mystery, though unexpected, was not executed well and I found myself disappointed in book as a whole.
As a Thursday Murder Club mystery, The Impossible Fortune doesn't stand out anymore than the others, even revealing itself to be monotonous and predictable in its execution and style.

"The unmissable new mystery in the Thursday Murder Club series from #1 New York Times bestselling author Richard Osman.
Who's got time to think about murder when there's a wedding to plan?
It's been a quiet year for the Thursday Murder Club. Joyce is busy with table plans and first dances. Elizabeth is grieving. Ron is dealing with family troubles, and Ibrahim is still providing therapy to his favorite criminal.
But when Elizabeth meets Nick, a wedding guest asking for her help, she finds the thrill of the chase is ignited once again. And when Nick disappears without a trace, his cagey business partner becomes the gang's next stop. It seems the duo have something valuable - something worth killing for.
Joyce's daughter, Joanna, jumps into the fray to help the gang as they seek answers: Has someone kidnapped Nick? And what's this uncrackable code they keep hearing about? Plunged back into action once more, can the four friends solve the puzzle and a murder in time?"
The fox kit on the cover has be transfixed. Sure way to make me buy a book, even if I'm not already a fan, put a fox on it.

Mr Osman knocked it out of the park again with this entry into the beloved series. These books have really tight mysteries that keep you guessing, dry British humor that makes you laugh out loud and heart that makes you want to weep. This entry is no different. We get to know Joanna much better and it is a great direction to go. Thoroughly enjoyed every minute of reading this book! Thanks to the author, #NetGalley and the publisher #VikingPenguin for a free expound in exchange for an honest review.

This is the fifth entry in the Thursday Murder Club series and it's both fun and touching. Joyce is preparing for her daughter's wedding, Elizabeth is swaddled in grief and Ron and Abraham have their own issues. A missing friend of the groom leads to a complex mystery that the gang, and their friends work to solve. The story is rich in character development and the usual humor.

Oh, what a joy it is to be in the company of the Thursday Murder Club gang again. This is such a delightful series and this book is a great addition.
A year has passed since the end of book four. Life goes on. Elizabeth is still mourning the loss of Stephen, Joyce is preparing for Joanna’s wedding, Ron is dealing with his daughter Suzi’s marriage and Ibrahim is still counseling Connie, who, in turn, is also becoming a mentor to a young woman. But at Joanna’s wedding, the best man asks for Elizabeth’s help before going missing. And there’s nothing like a good mystery to bring them together again and get the juices flowing.
Humor abounds throughout the book. I found myself continually chuckling out loud. The plot moves along at a brisk pace with several subplots in addition to the main story. I just adore all of the main characters, each with their own strengths and weaknesses. Osman continues to allow each character to grow. Despite their ages, they are not set in stone. I even get a real kick out of some of the secondary characters, especially Connie.
I would not recommend this as a stand-alone. Osman doesn’t waste a lot of time with backstories that have already been given in prior books.
My thanks to netgalley and Viking Penguin for an advance copy of this book.

Oh my goddddd — this might have dethroned book #2 as my favorite in the series (though it could be recency bias… might need to just reread the whole series to test it out). Without a shadow of a doubt, this is a 5 star read.
This was so so cute, and charming, and as wholesome as ever. One of my favorite things about this series is how, with every book, we grow more familiar with the characters. At this point, every line of dialogue feels so distinct and true to who they are. It is so SO impressive how Richard Osman is able to give each character such a defining personality AND keep them consistent throughout all (now) 5 books.
I love how each book has focused on a different character’s personal life - and I absolutely loved getting to know more about Ron. Up until now he was probably my least favorite in the group and after reading this book I could cry just thinking about him. And I’m OBSESSSSSED with Kendrick omg - that boy stole the show.
This story seamlessly bridges the time that passed after the 4th book - seeing Joyce be there for Elizabeth, and also the many nods of the strengths of both women and how they make each other better. I just love it so much and I love how the author used Joanna as a way to show this. Loved getting to know he more too.
I also loved how seamlessly this book bridged the time jump from 4th book, specifically with Joyce being there for Elizabeth, and highlighting how both women’s strengths complement each other. And I loved how the author used Joanna as a way to show this. Getting to know her was such a treat!!!!
An amazing, amazing read!!!! Can't wait for the next one.

I have enjoyed reading the previous books in the series and this one did not disappoint. The plot was engaging and kept me hooked until the very end. I liked the characters and their adventures. The story moved along at a good pace and did not drag. Can't wait for the next book!

Thanks to Viking Penguin and Richard Osman for this digital ARC.
Another winner in The Thursday Murder club series! It was a blast to catch up with Joyce, Elizabeth, Ron and Ibrahim. Joyce is planning her daughter’s wedding, and Elizabeth is trying to come to terms with her loss. At the wedding, Elizabeth has a guest, Nick Silver, ask her for her unique brand of help. She soon enlists the Thursday Murder Club in trying to figure out who is trying to kill Nick Silver. With twists aplenty and TTMC signature wit and style, this one will be hard to put down. Be sure to read this (and the whole series if you haven’t) today!

Ahhhh! i’m so glad to be back with these characters. i really enjoyed this new installment of the thursday murder club series. i loved getting to see our old characters and some new characters too!
my one and only critique was that i didn’t love some of the chapters following different characters. i found myself getting a bit bored when we weren’t with our main crew but other than that i loved this!

Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for an e-arc in exchange for an honest review!
When I saw the notification for the approval, I could not believe my good fortune. This is one of my most anticipated books of the year, and I was not disappointed. While the first four books of this series can stand on their own, this book feels like the next era of the Thursday Murder Club. I liked the storylines of each character, with some supporting characters taking more of a starring role. I thought the plot moved at a solid pace, and the characters were still so distinct. Fans of this series will be delighted with this new installment.

The Thursday Murder Club gang are back and better than ever! The Impossible Fortune starts off with what seems like a million different strands to the story but they soon all come together and make sense. Richard Osman’s humour shines through and this book is a delight to read.
It all wraps up satisfactorily in the end and leaves a smile on your face as we wait for the next installment.

I missed the Thursday Murder Club more than I realized. After a year away from the quartet and their growing posse for the very fun We Solve Murders, it was so lovely to be back in Coopers Chase. Osman's writing style is just so engaging and fun and I've loved they way he's built out the world, forever expanding it in a way that never feels overwrought. I love the supporting characters from previous books who've returned for more sun and seeing how they engage in the larger mystery at play. In short: It was good to be back with the crew and seeing them do what they do best: solving crimes with their classic air of nonchalance.

Thank you to Richard Osman, NetGalley, and Penguin Publishing for providing me with a free ebook in exchange for my honest opinion.
This is the fifth book in the Thursday Murder Club Series and it just keeps getting better! All of the usual characters that I've missed since book four are back and there are some new additions! I love that Richard Osman's characters are so deep, flawed, and many faceted. They are all various amounts of confident, timid, brave, scared, evil (well, except for Joyce!), good-hearted, and all of the other emotions, just like real people. And now I miss them all over again until book number six comes out way too long from now.

After reading the first four volumes of the Thursday Murder Club, I was more than ready to read about Elizabeth, Joyce, Ron and Ibrahim.. This one struck me as different, though, as Joyce is planning her daughter's wedding, Elizabeth is grieving the loss of her husband, Ron has family issues, but Ibrahim is still counseling his famous criminal. I still love the writing and the subtle humor and the fact that the murder always seems to be second to the characters and their stories.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for offering the latest by the wonderful author. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

I doubt that anyone who reads Richard Osman's Thursday Murder Club mystery series, of which The Impossible Fortune is the latest entry, does so for the complexity of the mystery. True to the novels that preceded it, The Impossible Fortune is much more about the "club's" members, four retirees of a certain age along with some of their family members and friends as needed, who in their retirement tackle, well, mysteries. In the Impossible Fortune, there are several intertwined mysteries that include the death by bombing of the co-owner of a cold storage site, the attempted bombing of her partner, who subsequently disappears, the 'hit' placed on family members of one of the club's members, the mentoring of a promising young female criminal by a much more hardened one, the veritable bitcoin fortune that awaits the lucky person or persons who can crack the pieces of the code held by the partners, and more. The mysteries are not all that mysterious but that's beside the point. This is a series best read from the first book in the series and in the order of their publication. Most fans of the series are avid about it and they will have already generated a long waiting list at every library that permits such requests to have begun by now. Most of those readers will not be disappointed, even though this entry feels just a tad formulaic.

Another charming, witty, and poignant adventure with The Thursday Murder Club. It's always an absolute delight to be back in their company!

The Impossible Fortune by Richard Osman proves once again that each Thursday Murder Club book is better than the last. It’s easy to get swept up in the story, with Elizabeth back in rare form and some favorite characters returning. These books really should be read in order to fully appreciate the characters and their relationships. Another clever mystery pulls our group of four back into action and this time we see Joyce's daughter and Ron's daughter adding to the mystery mix with separate storylines to keep everyone on their toes. I recommend this series to anyone who loves a solid mystery with engaging characters. With the Netflix series debuting this month, I can’t wait to see what Richard Osman has planned next!

I really thought that another book in this series would "jump the shark", but I am happy to admit that I am wrong wrong wrong. This one was completely wonderful - I laughed I gasped I cried. I really think this series has more longevity than I anticipated, and I am so happy to think so.

Richard Osman does it again! A twisty mystery, full of shady characters and dodgy dealings. But more than that, he adds to and deepens the characters we already know and love. these are not static stock characters, they feel like living, breathing people--like friends we have grown to love and can still be surprised by. At the heart of this story is family--family by blood, and family by choice--and what people will do for the people they love. It was great to see the gang together again, and to delight in their shenanigans and friendships. Can't wait for the next one.
