The Thursday Murder Club never lets me down. There is always some twisted murder and crime to solve and this team is pensioners is up to the task. Some old faces are back and up to some new drama. You will not be disappointed with The Impossible Fortune. And if you haven’t read any of the other Thursday Murder Club books I highly suggest you do so!

I was SO excited to see another book in this series!! I love it, and I recommend it to pretty much everyone whether they enjoy mysteries or not. While the mysteries in this series are always well constructed, I really feel like it is the cast of characters that endears this series to so many. I think we all wish we could join the Thursday Murder Club. A retirement community has never looked so fun. This book reunites fans with our favorite crime-solving crew and also introduces interesting new characters as well.

This was just everything I could have hoped for when I picked it up! Sadly, I devoured this book in about 24 hours, and I will have to wait such a long time for the next installment (please let there be more).

The feisty OAPs of the Thursday Murder Club have been avoiding crime since their ringleader Elizabeth lost her husband. The wedding of Joyce's daughter Joanna proves a delightful distraction, what with the dancing, booze, and pleas for help from the best man, who then vanishes. While they're running around hunting for codes and bombs, Ron's thuggish son-in-law is making the kind of trouble even a pugnacious labor leader is hard-pressed to stop. The quartet's pet police are largely absent. Instead, Ibrahim's ruthless patient Connie and her young mentee Tia prove useful. Another charming, twisty outing that blends beloved characters with tight, satisfying plotting.

Book Five in the best mystery series in the world!

Richard Osman returns with another strong installment in the Thursday Murder Club series, blending wit, warmth, and intrigue in a story that’s as much about friendship and loss as it is about solving a great mystery.

This time, the action kicks off at the wedding of Joyce’s daughter Joanna. The wedding is quickly forgotten as in the aftermath the best man comes to the crew with a big problem involving a bomb. Soon, there are missing persons, uncrackable codes, false leads and a few new quirky characters.
What I appreciate most about this series is Osman’s ability to evolve his characters while maintaining the emotional through-lines that make them so beloved. The mystery here is layered and contemporary. The themes are cryptocurrency, secrecy, and betrayal. However, Osman never rushes past grief, aging, or change.

The Impossible Fortune offers something different: a gentle turning point. It’s a novel about resilience, the comfort of chosen family, and the ongoing process of healing. Osman gives us suspense and lightness, but he also reminds us that there’s courage in vulnerability.

A rewarding and worthy continuation of the series. Longtime fans will be satisfied—and maybe even a little hopeful by the final page. Word on the street is that Osman is committed to continuing BOTH of his fabulous series!.

Many thanks to #Viking, #PamelaDormanBooks, and #NetGalley for the advance copy.

Thursday Murder Club is back with a lighter outing than their last (thankfully). Elizabeth is still mourning Stephen but an intriguing .mystery helps pull her back to the real world. The mystery is new and less dark than some the gang has encountered. The most difficult part to read deals with some domestic abuse involving Ron's daughter and grandson but it resolves well. Definitely recommend for fans of the series.

The Thursday Murder Club is back and as charming and hilarious as usual, tracking down a missing person and a sheet of paper that holds a very big secret.

I do really enjoy the Thursday Murder Club series. I prefer when the stories focus on the main four protagonists, and I am starting to have trouble keeping track of the secondary characters that keep getting added.

Another great addition to a stellar mystery series. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher, and to Richard Osman for continuing this series always written so beautifully.

Man, I love this series! I feel like I tend to get more series exhaustion than usual these days and yearn increasingly for standalone titles, but this is the kind of genre fiction that the concept of a series was made for. I'm so glad to be back with these characters again and could happily read at least five more books about them!

I’ve been a devoted fan of The Thursday Murder Club series ever since I received the first book from NetGalley. What makes this series truly special is the author’s warm sense of humor and the way he portrays the main characters—with affection, empathy, and deep understanding. It’s impossible not to fall in love with Elizabeth, Joyce, Ron, and Ibrahim—and of course Stephen, Chris, Donna, and Bogdan—as we follow their adventures.
So, I was absolutely thrilled to be offered the latest installment in the series for review—and I wasn’t disappointed. As always, there's a clever mystery to solve, but the real heart of the story lies with the characters. Elizabeth is grieving (and I grieve with her), Joyce is fully immersed in Joanna’s wedding preparations, Ron is doing his best to protect his family from assassins, and Ibrahim, ever the steady presence, offers unwavering support with his heart on his sleeve.
Richard Osman has created such lovable and charismatic characters that readers never tire of them—and now we wait eagerly for the next chapter in their story.
A big thank you to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for the review copy.

It’s always a treat to return to the Thursday Murder Club series! THE IMPOSSIBLE FORTUNE opens with a wedding, at which the best man implores Elizabeth Best to get him out of a pickle: Someone wants him dead, according to the bomb he found in his car. The case turns out to be a tangled web of unbreakable codes, greedy villains, and a Bitcoin fortune worth millions. Of course, the Club members themselves have their own problems to attend to. Ron is a standout character in this book, and Joyce has moments to shine—especially with her daughter, Joanna, who is an unexpected star of the story.

One of my favorite aspects of Osman’s writing is the way that he infuses all POVs with levity and tenderness, even those of the villains. It makes for a wholly enjoyable read even when there is the looming threat of mortal danger. There are plenty of opportunities to laugh in this installment, and with everything going on in the world, who doesn’t need a bit of laughter?

The plot felt more in line with that of WE SOLVE MURDERS, which was what I called a “cozy thriller,” and perhaps less of a traditional murder mystery. There are clues, red herrings, and suspects, but the pacing and structure was, for me, more reliant on “what will happen next” versus “whodunnit.” Still, I’ve always felt that Osman has a knack for weaving complicated mysteries while making them seem simplistic, perhaps because he approaches them in such a lighthearted way. I thought the overall mystery here was as excellent as his others. I did feel that it ended sooner than I wanted it too—perhaps a little rushed—but that could also be me wanting it to, you know, never end.

As for how it compares to the rest of the series? I’d say THE IMPOSSIBLE FORTUNE is a reprieve from the heavy emotions in THE LAST DEVIL TO DIE (I’ll admit, that one had me sobbing). But again, the tenderness is there, and he gives us plenty of opportunities to sit with grief, change, and the complexities of aging. It’s definitely a worthy read for those of us obsessed with this series.

Thanks so much to Viking Penguin, Pamela Dorman Books, and NetGalley for providing an eARC in exchange for my honest review.

Great to be back with the TMC gang again! I missed Donna, Chris, and Bogdan. While the mystery was excellent, I thought the narrative was more in line with We Solve Murders than the earlier Thursday Murder Club books.

Favorite passage from book *subject to change by publication date:

“Elizabeth sits completely still, and waits. It can take awhile, but if you are still long enough, they come to you. Fitful babies, zooming kittens, men with secrets….”

It’s been about a year since the Thursday Murder Club solved its last case, as events from the fourth book have put things on PAUSE.

The group is instead focused on some of the other people in their lives we’ve met before:
Ron and his daughter Suzi, grandson Kendrick and son Jason
Ibrahim with his client, Connie
And, Joyce with her daughter Joanna who is now engaged and planning a wedding.

And, it’s at this wedding, held on a THURSDAY, where we rejoin our friends from Cooper’s Chase…

That is where the groom’s best man, Nick-man with a secret-finds Elizabeth and asks for her help.

Apparently there is an UNBREAKABLE CODE, a BOMB, and BITCOIN involved and just like that-the gang has its NEXT CLEVER CASE.

The subplots focus on the other personal connections which have kept our favorite retirees busy this past year.

Although my favorite way to enjoy this series is by listening to the audiobook, I couldn’t resist the opportunity to read this early copy when offered. (The audiobook isn’t available yet).

Especially because my anticipation is HIGH for the “Thursday Murder Club” movie coming out on Netflix August 28th, with a stellar cast! Haven’t you always pictured Hellen Mirren playing Elizabeth?

I’m happy to report that this is another solid installment to the series-and I enjoyed catching up with our friends from Cooper’s Chase.

U.S. Publication Date: September 30, 2025

Thank You to Pamela Dorman books for the gifted ARC provided by NetGalley. As always, these are my candid thoughts!

The Thursday Murder Club is back! Joyce's daughter is getting married and the best man confides to Elizabeth that someone has planted a bomb under his car. And so a new case begins, but in typical Osman style all is not as it seems and there is additional family trouble a foot. Absolutely wonderful.

Viking Penguin provided an early galley for review.

I am a fan of Osman's novels and the series. So, I was happy to see this one scheduled for this year.

Of course, the new adventure picks up with story threads established in previous novels. The reader is seeing the growth and evolution of these characters as we check in on them once again. It rewards those who have been with the series since the start, yet it is still accessible for those just jumping in for the very first time.

In an attempt to avoid spoiling any of the plot, I really enjoyed the various interactions between characters we've encountered before and new ones that have come into the narrative. I do hope we'll continue to see more as these relationships evolve. Also, I enjoyed the twists and turns in the plot as well as the way the clues were revealed.

Finally, I am glad to hear that Osman has plans to continue both this series and his We Solve Murders line.

Another Thursday Murder Club adventure! I've enjoyed all of them so far, and this one didn't disappoint. Trying to speak vaguely and spoiler free, it's fun to watch how the group dynamic changes, as they get pushed out of the comfort zone, and deal with all that comes along with getting older (and also all that comes along with spending your days chasing dangerous criminals). Hope the gang has some more adventures left in them.

Thanks for the ARC Viking Penguin!

In the quiet year since Elizabeth's beloved husband passed away, Joyce has been busy helping to plan her daughter's wedding. When a chance wedding interaction leaves Elizabeth intrigued for the first time in a long time, she follows her curiosity to the Thursday Murder Club's first murder in a year.

The team is back, with all their tangled family and friend glory with Ron's family, Ibrahim's counseling sessions with Connie, Joyce's new son-in-law, and so much more. This was a fun addition to the series and feels like reuniting with old friends.

I was so happy to see that Richard Osman is back with a brand new Thursday Murder Club mystery. This one is just as good as the ones before it, so you will love recommending it to readers who have enjoyed the series. It definitely works as a standalone title, but I think that the reading experience will be a much better one for readers who are familiar with the characters, who continue to grow and develop and charm us all. As this book opens, Joyce's daughter Joanna is getting married, and Elizabeth is just starting to see some better days after Stephen's death. At the wedding, they meet the best man, Nick, who asks Elizabeth's help in investigating a car bomb that someone planted under his car. From there, it's off to the races, as our four detectives are joined by their sidekicks from the younger generation to solve what evolves into a very complex, intriguing crime. A wonderful book for readers new and old.
