This book is an insightful deep dive into how shame affects our stories. It's also a catalogue of how shame affected the author throughout her life. I appreciated her wise, compassionate tone. Her personal stories added depth and validation to the points she makes. I appreciated the tips for listening to your compassionate truth teller instead of your inner critic. This book will be helpful to many, especially as an accompaniment to therapy.

Maybe it's just the right time: I've read other books on Shame but with it being such a nebulous subject I've given up on a few. Not this one. I've got some real revelations from this book, the greatest being that taking on someone's negative evaluation of your worth is actually abandoning yourself, which lets shame in. Yes, there's more to it but I found myself saying "I don't want to abandon myself!" Something shifted in me because I realised that was the missing piece for me. The book talk about different types of shame but for me, it's greatest strength is helping you understand what you are actually doing to yourself. And do you want to keep doing it? Many thanks to the author for tackling this subject.
