You had me on edge for a minute at the end there. I was ready to ride at dawn if the dog didn't make it. But, he lives, nothing happens to the dog I promise!

Other than that, dang this book yanked me too and fro like being on a ship in a storm. I was so rooting for our romance, and then so angry, and then rooting, and then angry. I was ready for everything to wrap up with a pretty bow, but I should've known better. I'm so sad, ,it ended and now we have to wait for the next one.

Cries.

Anyway, fantastic read.

Thank you to NetGalley for this ALC. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Voice of the Ocean is a fresh reimagining of the classic The Little Mermaid tale—and a strong debut overall!

Celeste makes for a compelling narrator and a solid female lead, even if her naivety shows at times. But at 17, who hasn't made questionable choices for love—human or siren? The supporting cast adds depth to the story, and the twists toward the end were genuinely surprising.

That said, I did find the pacing a bit slow at the beginning, and personally, I think the story might have been stronger as a standalone rather than part of a series.

A solid Little Mermaid retelling with enough fresh twists to make it feel like its own thing. I didn’t love the narrator, but they were fine—nothing that took away from the story, just not a standout for me.

If you’re into fairy tale retellings with a bit of a modern edge, this one’s worth a listen.

This was a slow starter for me. It reminded me of The Little Mermaid in some respects, but the story got better as it went along. I was so angry at how Celeste was discounted by her family. She was torn between her people and the humans. I changed my mind several times over which group was good and which was evil. I guess we all have both qualities.

Celeste, the youngest daughter of Queen Halia, has always been seen as too emotional—a trait her mother associates with humans. To prove herself, Celeste trains to join the Chorus, an elite group of siren warriors. However, when she saves Prince Raiden's life, she faces the wrath of her mother, who offers her a choice: assassinate Raiden or face execution. Opting to understand the prince's mission, Celeste becomes human and joins his crew, leading to unexpected alliances and a burgeoning romance.

Voice of the Ocean is a compelling read for fans of fantasy and romance, offering a fresh take on a classic tale. With its strong character development, thematic depth, and immersive world-building, Impicciche's debut marks a promising start to her writing career.

If you’re into The Little Mermaid, this book could be right up your alley. The premise is really interesting and definitely caught my attention at first. That said, the story didn’t fully pull me in, and it felt a little flat for me overall. It’s not a bad book, it just didn’t quite click with me. I think fans of fairy tale retellings might enjoy it more.

In this re-telling of the classic fairytale, Little Mermaid, Celeste, a siren, comes across humans for the first time. When she goes against her mother’s wishes, she is banned from their kingdom and to right her wrongs.
Will Celeste be able to save herself and the kingdom?

I really enjoyed this audiobook! The story was light, adventurous, and had a fun mix of humor, friendship, and a bit of romance. It was easy to get swept up in the world and the characters’ journey.

The narration was well done—engaging and easy to listen to, with good pacing throughout. The narrator captured the tone of the story perfectly, making the experience even more enjoyable.

I’m giving it 4 stars because while it was a fun ride, some parts felt a little predictable, and I found myself wanting just a bit more depth in a few character moments. Still, it left me smiling by the end, and I’d definitely recommend it for anyone looking for a feel-good adventure.

Is it just me or does anyone else got beef w/ the FMC lmfao. It’s giving very victim. It’s giving very PICK ME. I wanna fight her so bad lmfao. The realest line she ever said…

“This is all my fault.” 😒

On that note, I love when an Author can get under your skin w/ a character ☠️ It was definitely giving Little Mermaid retelling. Did I also have beef w/ Ariel? Possibly lmfao. ‘Cause instead of choosing Kiyomi (spelling?) YOU CHOSE PONK AHH RAIDEN.
And during Pride month… SMH 🤣

Ok, they had a few lines where I was like GUSH 💦

“It was like looking into the sun. His gaze burned. And she could not hide from the light.”

“Not when he looked at her like that. As if all the world was darkness and she was the moon.”

🙂‍↕️ That’ll do it. But he was fr a 🪱 I’m still #TeamKiyomi - And I was just in love w/ the whole found family crew. The best vibes, except you Sebas. And the dog, THEE ADMIRAL?! I live. The goodest boy, yes he issss 🙂‍↕️

Also, if you think this is a standalone? THINK AGAIN.
Those last few chapters threw me into the freakin’ currents. I was kinda predicting most of the stuff that happened, but then I was just like 🫨 So much happened in such a small span- I can’t. And the way it ended was criminal!! Natalie Naudus you fiend, you embodied the narration, such an adventure.
Overall- Read this. Where is this story going to go? I have no idea anymore. Will she get w/ Kiyomi?
