First off, it is important to note that this is a closed door romance. Would I have enjoyed it more, if the door was open.... absolutely.
I read the first three books of this series as soon as I got this audiobook and this was by far the best one... possibly because I love a single dad trope where the baby mama is no longer in the picture. I thought their build up was super sweet and the relationship between Hazel and June's relationship was extra cute.
I will say they kept alluding to Emmett being different in some way... more than just introverted, but they never really addressed it. I also think it wrapped up about too neatly/easily, but it is what it is.
You don't have to read the first three books, the overlap is mostly the main male characters playing a video game together.
Thank you to Net Galley and Dreamscape Media for the ARC.

This book was a palette cleanser. Hazel and Emmett complement each other so well. Hazel has the biggest heart and doesn’t shy from showing her emotions. The love and relationship Hazel has with June (Emmett’s daughter) is motherly from the start.

The Double Play
Ok! I absolutely adored this book by Annah Conwell! This sweet rom-com read had me completely hooked! Hazel is the type of main character you instantly love! She’s warm, witty, and totally relatable (especially if you're the kind of person who is always taking care of everyone else). And Emmett? The grumpy single dad with a heart of gold? Yes please! Their slow building connection was perfect, and every little glance or thoughtful gesture had me swooning.
But… I can not leave out June! This tiny scene stealer with a big personality makes this book even more special! The bond between Hazel and June was so tender and genuine, and just gave the story even more heart! Add in a little forced proximity, a baseball backdrop, and emotional healing, and you’ve got the perfect romance. This story felt like sunshine, comfort, and a family hug all rolled into one. Basically? I smiled the whole time and didn’t want it to end!
Thank you so much to @netgalley and @dreamscapemedia for the opportunity to listen to this audiobook! All thoughts and opinions are mine :)

Oh my goodness! Emmett! Fell again for this adorable story! This was so dang cute! Why do I love this series… well, each character draws me in and this one was no different! Baseball? Perfect! Big guys with big hearts! Nannies with big dreams! Love it! I absolutely loved this story! Can’t wait for the next one to come out! I am in!

I was super excited going into this one, but it left me feeling disappointed. This was VERY insta-love. That is definitely not my favorite trope, but I can usually get on board with it if the characters and relationship can carry it through. Hazel and Emmett’s relationship lacked any kind of depth for me. I couldn’t see any reason for the immediate jump from a working relationship to being in love. Especially with a child involved and them tossing around “mom” instantly it was kind of hard for me to swallow. Things that I expected to be huge to their story were mentioned very briefly once or twice and glossed over. Also, I am a fairly easy crier, and I was completely over Hazel crying every 5 minutes.
With all that being said, there were some cute moments throughout. If you are looking for a quick fluffy read and don’t care too much about a lot of depth then you might enjoy this one.
I listened to this as an audiobook and the narration was done really well.

This was a very quick easy listen. It was a light romance, with very little depth that you can listen to without the need for excessive concentration. All the characters for me were a little superficial, with no real depth or time spent exploring any of the quite serious topics covered by the story. I found the term 'Wildflower' used constantly as a term of endearment by Emmett extremely irritating I'm afraid. The story of Brock, who I assume will come next seems much more interesting. I also found the tones used by the narrators for June a trifle annoying and babyish. Thank you to Netgalley and the publishers for giving me access to a review copy of this audiobook

3.5⭐️
I think this was my favorite of the series so far! Short, light, and sweet - it was exactly what I needed when I read it!

Thank you so much NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for allowing me to listen and review this book! Seriously 5/5 stars, I started this book halfway through my day at work and literally could NOT put it down (had to finish)!! This was a fast listen and the narrating was fantastic which just added to how much I loved the book! I am not a huge sports romance but this book won my darn heart! Not only did I love the blooming romance between the two main characters but I loved the relationship between father and daughter and then daughter and (now) new mother! Ugh it melted my heart the entire way through. I truly didn’t want this book to end and wished for it to just continue!! I can’t say enough good things and would love to read and listen to more from this author!!

3.5 stars rounded to a 4.
This was a very sweet and cozy audiobook! While nothing extraordinary sticks out from this book, I enjoyed listening to it and would read more by Annah Conwell. The narrators were great, and the pace of the story was great. Nothing felt like it lagged. Overall a solid book I’d recommend as a good beach read to friends and other readers. Thank you to Netgalley for the audio ARC in exchange for an honest review.

The Double Play is a sweet, relaxing grumpy-sunshine sports romance with a single dad twist. Hazel, the nanny, is down-to-earth and fiercely caring toward Emmett’s daughter, while Emmett brings the quiet, guarded energy that softens gradually. Their slow-burn romance feels believable and steady, with no over-the-top drama or tension.
The audiobook is great; Charlotte North and Tim Paige are perfectly matched to the characters and deliver a smooth, immersive performance. My only small quirk? Hazel tends to cry over everything ... not a bad thing, but it felt slightly overdone at times. Still, it didn’t take away from how likable and warm the story was overall.

This one was pretty enjoyable. I would classify it as a palate cleanser, not something that was going to change my brain chemistry, but ultimately enjoyable especially if you enjoy single dad/nanny romances. I enjoyed how clueless our FMC is about our MMCs sport as well., made for a fun dynamic.
The narrators were great and I would say really helped support the story.

Hazel’s new job as June’s nanny seems like a dream until she starts developing feeling for June’s father, Emmett, baseball superstar, divorced and a little rough around the edges. Can they have their HEA or will their lives interfere in their happiness? Sweet, funny and a really good audiobook to listen to. Charlotte North and Tim Paige make a great job with such a wonderful story. Thanks to NetGalley and Dreamscape media for the ALC copy This is my honest review.

This was a cute romance with no spice. It lacked much substance and depth it was very quick so maybe if it was longer there could have been more to the story. It was cute and sweet just very predictable and quick. The full names when the pov changed was odd and the wildflower nickname was awkward. But if you’re looking for a quick romance to change it up this one is good.
I listened to this advanced copy on audio courtesy of NetGalley Dreamscape Media.

This was a cute story but I did feel like it got a bit boring at times and dragged a bit here and there. Overall I did think it was cute. I loved Hazel's bond with June, that was so heartwarming. I kept wanting a bit more from Emmett and Hazel but overall I did like their relationship. I wish Raven was in the book a bit more, same with Emmett's parents. I enjoyed the male narrator but was not a big fan of the female narrator, she was lacking for me.

Dual narration, male narrator constantly sounds annoyed.
Cute story, I dont quite understand the sequence of time, from my understanding they met and married within like 4 months but it's entirely possible I didn't catch the time lapses. I hope the next in the series is the agent

What a cutie, feel-good read! This book just makes you smile, it’s a pick-me-up book. That being said, it did fall flat in the plot detail for me; I wish friendships had been explored more. But biggest drawback was the insta love and lack of connection between the two leads… there was nothing tying them together, I really wish I could’ve believed it but I didn’t.
This was really enjoyable as an audiobook! It was a quick, fast paced read that had really good narrators!

The More Than a Game series is one of my very favorite collections of sports focused, sweet romance stories. I love that each of the main male characters are at the top of their game in whichever sport they play and that they are all close friends, together with their agent, Brock. I’ve been eagerly anticipating Emmett’s story, knowing that he has been the gruff friend. He’s a single father who is cynical toward love after a bad divorce and I knew he would need someone special to turn things around for him.
I loved Hazel’s kind heart. She teared up easily because she cared so deeply. Emmett’s daughter, June, was absolutely delightful and I loved the way she and Hazel bonded so early on.
The Double Play has a swoony love story thread, but also delves into some deep hurts that both Hazel and Emmett have experienced in life. I really appreciated the way Emmett showed up for Hazel and really opened his heart to her once he realized how his feelings for her had grown.
This dual narration audio book was a joy to listen to. The narrators did a great job of bringing these two characters to life. I can easily rank this book as a top favorite of mine!
I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

Thank you to Dreamscape Media for the ALC for The Double Play!
3.5/4 stars, rounding to 4. I genuinely enjoyed this Audiobook. Both narrators did a great job, and I appreciate the dual-narration for the different POVs.
This single dad/nanny romance was a very fun time! It was short, sweet, and to the point, in the best way possible. The author was able to pack a lot into a short story, but nothing felt too dragged out which is much appreciated. I definitely want to read the rest of this interconnected series now!

When this book first started I thought for sure it would be a 5 star read for me, unfortunately it did not pan out that way. While I loved the ease of this love story there wasn't really much depth or action in the story, even when there was a crisis it was very mellow. The couple had zero conflict through the entirety of the book which was honestly boring. I did like the writing style, but there was a lot of depth lacking. That being said I will read more from this author.

Thank you to NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for an advanced listening copy of The Double Play in exchange for my honest opinion. This book is releasing to retailers and Kindle Unlimited on June 24, 2025.
Happy Release Day!
I listened to this book in about 4-5 hours (on 2.0 speed). A sweet single daddy/nanny romance, there’s no language and it’s closed door. The focus is two people falling for each other, and a cute 5 year old little girl. I laughed when Hazel thinks a baseball game has a halftime.
The narrators were good. I love male and female narrators in a romance book! I listen to books fast and the narrators were easy to understand at 2.0 speed. I now want to listen to other books in this series. A great baseball romance!
