3.5/5 ⭐️ for Gone Country
Goodreads review posted on: 08/01/2025
Jamie and Clayton are the epitome of enemies-to-lovers in this story. Jamie is a rock singer/songwriter while Clayton is your down home country singer/songwriter. The two seem to clash in every way imaginable from their likes and dislikes to their writing style and even living accommodations.
I struggled to get into this story until somewhere around the middle. Jamie was a hard character to like with her constant nagging and emotional outbursts while Clayton’s charm came across a bit childish at times which was hard for me to read personally.
I did enjoy the character growth between the two as far as them opening up to each other and trying to incorporate each other into their respective lives, some by force and some voluntary.
Overall this was a 3.5 ⭐️ read for me and I did love the idea of the storyline!

cute, fun, and well done romance with some absolutely adorable characters and interesting settings. would definitely recommend. 4 stars. tysm for the arc.

This was fun, easy read rom-com read. It was slow burn, enemies to lovers featuring a female Rockstar and male country singer.
Jamie is a feisty FMC and Clayton is your typical Golden retriever MMC. With a slightly slow start, once you hit the middle of the story the banter and chemistry between the two characters has really developed and had me chuckling at times. And you definitely can’t ignore the characters 4-legged companions!
There was some odd parts to the pacing at times which did detract from the story and for this reason I’m giving it a 3.5. Overall I did enjoy it, it was a predictable rom-com formula but nothing outstanding.

This is a meet-cute, rom-com style, slow-burn, enemies to lovers story.
Very little spice.
In this story you are following an up and coming rock singer as she battles with a country singer who also works for her label.
The characters have quite a bit of funny banter throughout the story and strong personalities.
The narrative and dialogue is very fast-paced and includes a lot of musical references. Whether is be a song name, artist name, etc.
A very cute, musically inclined story with a happy ending.

From Rock to Country—And She Was Not Ready for It
Jamie’s a badass rockstar. Clayton’s a chill, flannel-wearing country singer and a single dad. When their random duet accidentally goes viral, Jamie suddenly finds herself stuck in his world of southern charm, small-town vibes, and the world’s corniest dad jokes.
She’s fiery, independent, and totally unimpressed by his easygoing attitude. But between the banter, the prank wars, and the way he actually gets her, those walls start to come down—and the chemistry? It’s chef’s kiss.
This was such a fun, easy read. I loved watching their relationship go from “ugh, no” to “oh… ohhh.” Yeah, the writing could’ve gone a bit deeper, and some parts felt kind of flat, but honestly? I didn’t care. Their dynamic totally carried it for me.
Tropes:
- Slow burn
- Rockstar x country singer
- Single dad
- Grumpy x sunshine
- Enemies to lovers
- Feisty female lead
Thank you NetGalley for the ARC!

This book is giving all of the heart-warming parts of Country Strong (the movie) without the trauma. My only initial complaint, being a TN native, was sone of the verbiage and way Clayton spoke was a bit overdone...however, I know it was necessary to emphasize their differences.
Clayton and Jamie live in two different worlds and have completely different upbringings, but the way they understand each other in the end is endearing.
This book was everything: enemies-to-lovers, slow burn, fairytale ending, rom-com.I loved the research put into the book. I truly loved all the characters, except for AJ. They were all very multi-layered.
I finished this book in one day, and found myself hoping to see a duet one day.

This was a fun, low spice, easily to read romance. I loved all the pop culture references, especially the country artists and older classic rock references as those were artists I grew up with. It took me a little bit to warm up to the FMC as she seemed a little cold at first, but once you learned more of her story it made sense and it was fun to see her soften up and open up throughout the story. The MMC was the classic golden retriever type, even with his own golden retriever! I loved his persistence with the FMC. However, I would have liked to see more chemistry between the two as sometimes it felt more like we were being told they had chemistry rather than reading it through their interactions in the story.

This was my first Hunter Snow book. I enjoyed the writing and the characters. I loved the banter and chemistry between Clayton and Jamie. The reverse grumpy/sunshine was also a trope that I don't see much of, or haven't read much of, so that was nice.
One part that came off as meh to me was how neither MC knew very popular artist on the other's genre. I just find that hard to beleive. It didn't take away from my experience, though.
My favorite part of this was the side characters, not the human ones, although they were good too. I'm talking about Duke and Poppy Rose, the doggies that keep our MCs company.

I struggled to read this book because the writing is so contradictory from line to another.
E.g. in one paragraph the MFC says that she absolutely hates the MMC and yet she follows him to his studio to make music with him (without discussing who the song belongs to), then shows up at a bar that he asks her to go to to sing it with him, and is then surprised when he sings it at the bar?
I mean, if you hate him that much, don't do what he is asking to do? Or if you are doing it, give at least a good reason to do it ( and yes, being attracted to him counts!), but she doesn't explain it at all!!!
Also, I'm sorry but the MFC is almost an alcoholic and that makes me really uncomfortable.

ARC Review – Gone Country by Hunter Snow
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (4/5)
I received an advance copy of Gone Country and chose to review it. I'm so thankful for the opportunity to read it early!
Gone Country brings together rock and country in a fun, fiery collision of worlds. Jamie Keaton is a fierce, no-nonsense rock star, and Clayton Langley is the picture of Southern charm—and when they’re forced to collaborate, sparks (and insults) fly.
I’ll admit, the first 15% was a bit of a slow climb for me, and I struggled to fully connect right away. But I’m so glad I stuck with it. Once the story found its rhythm, I was hooked by the banter, tension, and the unexpectedly tender moments that followed.
The characters feel real and relatable—flawed in the best ways—and their dynamic had me flipping pages quickly after the initial buildup. The chemistry is undeniable, the dialogue is sharp, and the enemies-to-lovers vibe is incredibly satisfying.
If you’re into music-themed romance, fiery tension, and watching two people from different worlds find common ground (and something more), this one’s worth the read.
Thank you, Hunter Snow, for the opportunity to read this story early—it was a joy to experience Jamie and Clayton’s world!

What a cute delightful enemies to lovers read. I did not expect to like it this much. Clayton and Jamie were two really likable people. This was such an easy read that i could not put down. I kept wanting to know what was going to happen next. The story flowed so easily to HEA. READ THIS BOOK. Thank you NetGalley, Book Sirens and Hidden Gems for the advanced copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This book can be described with the following question:
What if Taylor Swift and George Strait feuded publicly for years, but eventually it ended?
Impossibly adorable, right?
This story in a nutshell.

This was such a refreshing and emotional read! A single dad, enemies-to-lovers romance between a country music star and a rock-and-roll artist? Sign me up!
I absolutely loved the prank wars — they added a fun, lighthearted touch that balanced out the heavier themes perfectly. The chemistry between Jamie and Clayton was undeniable, even when they were pretending to hate each other. Their banter was top-tier, and the slow evolution of their relationship was so satisfying to watch.
Beyond the romance, I really appreciated how the author wove in deeper topics like child abandonment, partner abuse, and emotional healing. These themes were handled with care and added emotional depth to the story.
As a bonus, I learned a lot about both country music and rock and roll while reading — and I loved how naturally the musical knowledge was woven into the plot.
Overall, a beautifully written, heartfelt story with strong character development, great pacing, and a memorable romance.
It’s a solid 4.5-star read for me, and I definitely recommend it!

Firstly, I would like to thank NetGalley for the opportunity to read this ARC!
Gone Country is a heartfelt romcom with lots of lovable characters and such a fun story! Jamie Keaton & Clayton Langley's enemies to lovers story was so adorable to read!! I loved reading about how their relationship grew and evolved, from hating each other, to writing songs together, and eventually being together! The author did an amazing job incorporating the side characters and subplots in such a natural way and I loved Nolan & Ruth, as well as Emily and Charlotte. I especially adored Jamie's relationship with Emily and Charlotte, it really tugs at your heartstrings!

Gone Country is such a great read. Clayton (Country) and Jamie (Rock) are enemies from the start. Their paths collide in such a way that changes both their lives. What happens next is anyone’s guess. This book captured me from the start. Clayton and Jaime are characters that I liked from the start and their story was so good. The pace of the book was perfect, not too slow and not too fast. If you love an enemy to lover type book, this would be a nice one to read. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

I enjoyed the dynamic between Jamie and Clayton a lot and overall had a fun time reading this! I wish the slow burn would've had some more moments and didn't feel so rushed at the end!

I really enjoyed this ARC! A music industry rom com with a country singing cowboy? Instant download 🤭
I felt there could have been more character development for both Jamie and Clayton. I wanted to know more about them and their past but really enjoyed reading them go from enemies to lovers. I believed their frustrations and emotions throughout the story.
Slow burn, enemies to lovers with musicians for main characters made this book really enjoyable!

Enemies to lovers is one of my favorite tropes and this one did not disappoint with the banter. There were parts I thoroughly enjoyed and there definitely was chemistry between Clayton and Jamie. Some chapters missing notations on whose point of view you were reading. I also felt that Jamie’s past issues were scanned over. Thank you to Net Galley for this ARC.

This book brought out a lot of emotions for me, and I felt extremely connected with the characters. I was able to feel their pains, understand their struggles, and laugh with them during their triumphs. From prank wars and achievements, to emotional trauma and hardship. It was a wonderfully written book that I enjoyed every moment of reading. The stage was set, and the performance was heart wrenching. Bravo!

I haven’t read an enemies to lovers in quite sometime, as it’s not normally something I gravitate to, but “Gone Country” was really cute!
The banter between Jamie and Clayton was great and I’m such a sucker for a single dad character. So much so that Charlotte and Emily were probably my favorite characters in the book. Their relationship with Jamie was just so adorable and I really loved that whole family.
3.5 rounded up.
Thank you Netgalley, Tellwell Talent, and Hunter Snow for sending me this advanced review copy for free. I am leaving this review voluntarily.
