Thank you to NetGalley for this charming Christmas read centering around Vanessa Mayfield a war, a 40 something war widow with a teenage daughter, Sadie. After dropping Sadie off at college in Northern Georgia , Vanessa stops off at an antiques shop in Marietta to search for her Christmas ring that she lost when she was skiing in Colorado 4 years before. The ring holds special significance for Vanessa since it was the ring her grandfather found in France on D-Day and it gave him hope that he would survive the war.At the antiques store the owner’s son Ben , also a widower, and Vanessa make a connection..Over a period of 6 months they grow closer but when there is a chance that Vanessa’s ring has been found in Ben’s shop will he do the right thing and return the ring to Vanessa ? Read the book and find out.Perfect Christmas story.

This is a cute and meaningful Christmas story.
The history of the Christmas ring that begins the story had me immediately invested.
Vanessa losing the ring and her search for it leading to her meeting Ben was just perfect.
I like how Vanessa’s and Ben’s precious marriages were elaborated on, helping the reader to understand more about them both as they got to know each other and the search for the ring continued.
If you like sweet Christmas romances, I recommend this story. I can’t wait to see how it transfers to the screen this year.
Thank you to Thomas Nelson for the copy of this book. All views are my own.

I would recommend this book.
I want to thank NetGalley and Thomas Nelson Fiction for this advanced reader copy and this is my honest opinion.

The Christmas Ring by Karen Kingsbury
My sincere thanks to Thomas Nelson and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read The Christmas Ring. I give my unbiased opinion of it in the following review.
Both Vanessa and Ben have lost their spouses. Vanessa's husband was a military medic killed in action. Since then she has done special projects to support military families. Ben's wife died of a sudden illness and he has been working with his father in their antiques store. When Vanessa drops her daughter off at college she wanders into Ben's antique shop looking for a Christmas ring she lost. She's been looking for it for years and hasn't given up hope. She and Ben strike up a friendship that has been evolving into more. Will Vanessa's daughter Sadie be open to her mother dating? Will the Christmas ring be found?
This is a wholesome faith-based story. I enjoyed it. It was everything I expected from a Karen Kingsbury Christmas story. This one will also be the basis of a holiday movie coming in 2025. I hope to catch that as well.

A ring found in the French countryside on D-Day brings together two widowed people for a second chance romance.
Four years ago, Vanessa Mayfield lost both her military husband and her beloved Christmas ring, passed down from her great-grandfather. But a chance encounter in an antique shop leads her to Chris Pratt look-alike Ben Miller. Can she let herself love again?
This is a sweet and quickly paced faith-focused holiday romance. While the HEA is always guaranteed, there were a few harried moments that I admit had me tearing up. It was refreshing to read a romance about two 40-somethings finding love again and navigate what it means to move forward and not live in the past while still cherishing it.
The little niggle that bothered me was the fact that Vanessa's great-grandfather was in WWII. As she is about 43 give or take, the math just doesn't math unless every generation from great-grandpa until mom had a kid at 18. In a few years this won't be as noticeable but it sure was to me as it was my grandpa who served in WWII and I'm younger than Vanessa.
Tropes:
-Christmas Romance
-Second Chance romance
-No-Spice (just 1 or 2 kisses)
-40-something FMC/MMC
-something lost, something found
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the review copy.

Knowing that this book is going to be made into a movie is a gift. Understanding that each scene could be reenacted to tell the story in a two-hour format helped to appreciate the plotting. Initially I thought that it would be a dual-timeline tale with trips backward and forward to unravel a mystery. However, it stands on its own.
I found a deeply resonant story of loss and coming back to life for both mother and daughter. I am in shock that I didn’t know who Karen Kingsbury was prior to this! Were the emotional arcs abbreviated? Likely so. Was there enough detail to get the point across in a movie? Yes! Often, I read with the goal of discovering new insights on a complex situation that I had not considered. This book delivered in spades.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Thank you for allowing me to read this arc. It was so beautiful and it kept my attention till the end. Christmas Ring by Karen Kingsbury was just the touching holiday romance I needed. I love how the plot was centered around a lost— and miraculously found-ring that brings two hearts back together. The chemistry between the characters was amazing, making the story both emotional with a heartwarming mood and a gentle reminder of faith, love, and second chances, this is the perfect cozy Christmas read. While I was able to read it quickly because of how short it was, I would have liked to have had a little longer story. I did enjoy it though.

Oh my, this book was so heartfelt and I loved it from the first page! I'm pretty sure I've read all of Karen Kingsbury books and this one really touched me! Vanessa and Sadie and Ben and a ring that was passed down through several generations. The ring was lost during a ski trip and they never stopped playing that the ring would be found. If you read this, I'm pretty sure you'll love it as much as I did!

The Christmas Ring by Karen Kingsbury is a sweet Christmas story that is just perfect for a cozy afternoon. I loved the prologue and the background to how the ring came about. The story has sweet elements with a widowed mom learning to love again, a freshman in college learning to find her way, and a widowed man who discovers he’s ready to love again. The circumstances of the ring are pretty miraculous, but that’s part of the beauty of Christmas stories…the magic and wonder and hope they bring. It reads quick and simple and I was delighted for the happy ending.
I received a complimentary copy from the publisher via NetGalley, and all opinions expressed are solely my own, freely given.

A story that honors the military, keeps you deep in your faith and shows that you can love again after heartache. This is a clean romance that really deep dives into a bit of a mystery. The Christmas Ring will for sure stick with you long after you’re finished with it. I really enjoyed it. I love that Kingsbury is all about faith and a love that will never cease.
Highly recommended. Thank you to NetGalley and Thomas Nelson for my advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are solely mine.

This wasn't for me. But I think other people would love it.
This is a quick read about a widow and a widower who find each other while looking for a lost ring (family heirloom). It is a very USAmerican story, which I found hard to read - as a non-American, I don't get the super-patriotic/military/flags, etc. type of Christianity that is an undercurrent of the story.

Karen Kingsbury’s The Christmas Ring is the story of Vanessa Mayfield. A lost family ring, an attractive antique dealer, and the search for the ring are all part of this adorable book. I voluntarily read this complimentary copy of this well-written book about loss, friendship, and second chances. Love this treasure of a book!

Book 28 of 2025 - ✅! Thank you to NetGalley, Thomas Nelson Fiction | Thomas Nelson & Karen Kingsbury for an ARC of The Christmas Ring by Karen Kingsbury, in exchange for my honest review.
I found The Christmas Ring by Karen Kingsbury when selecting a book for Camp NetGalley. I wasn’t familiar with Karen Kingsbury’s work prior to reading this book, but I think it would have been beneficial to label this book as a Christian book, as the religious themes are pretty prominent throughout.
The Christmas Ring centers on FMC military widow, Vanessa Mayfield, and MMC widower, Ben Miller. Vanessa loses a treasured family heirloom - a Christmas ring - which she originally thought was a piece of costume jewelry. She and the reader later find out the ring is worth over $25K as it has real diamonds and a ruby. Vanessa is based on Columbus and Ben is based in Marietta, GA, but Vanessa finds herself in Georgia after dropping her daughter, Sadie, for her freshman year of college. Vanessa tries to search for her ring at any antique shop she comes across, so she steps into the shop near Sadie’s university, which is run by Ben Miller and his father. The 2 hit it off, and as the story progresses, we find that The Christmas Ring has actually made it to Ben’s antique shop. Ben makes the connection about the ring and figures out how to get it to Vanessa. In a flash-forward, we see what Vanessa and Ben’s life looks like in the future, as well as the future of the ring, as Sadie is next in line to inherit it.
I appreciated the fact that the MCs were in their 40s, as that’s not extremely common in books. This is a second-chance, faith-based, clean romance. While I don’t feel like I’m the target audience for this book, there’s certainly an audience for it. The book is scheduled to be released on 10/21/25, and for those who might enjoy a movie version - it’s being released in theaters in November of 2025.
2.5/5 ⭐️ overall, and 0/5 🌶️’s. 💍 🎄✝️ #TheChristmasRing #NetGalley

What a beautifully written story about love, faith, and courage. This book is a wonderful reminder that no matter what the obstacle, and no matter how impossible things seem, always keep your faith.
Vanessa's great-grandfather finds a ring on D-Day and calls it his Christmas ring. The ring becomes a family heirloom and is passed down through every generation, only Vanessa loses it during a day of fun with her daughter, Sadie.
Fast forward a few years and, after dropping Sadie off at college, Vanessa visits an antique store and meets Ben. Vanessa and Ben are both getting over the loss of a spouse and they develop a friendship over the ensuing months as Ben helps Vanessa search for her ring. Little do they know, Ben's father has the ring in a box of antiques he purchased and plans to sell it so he can afford his lifelong dream of traveling. When Ben finds out, he races to stop the sale, but will he make it on time?
This is a wonderful cozy Christmas read! Snuggle up with a cozy blanket and your favorite warm beverage while you binge this book.
Thanks to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for an ARC of this book.

I thought this was a really sweet, heartwarming book perfect for Christmas. I had a few issues with how the characters acted at times (not talking to each other, etc) but overall it was like a Hallmark movie with a strong Christian aspect.

A Christmas in July book, perfect for the readers who love Hallmark movies and God.
This was surprisingly good for a novella, and I will be buying it for mother and mother-in-law to read before Christmas. The way that God was evident in this whole story was written really well, incorporating faith and scripture. That said, I am not religious, and this is very opposite of what I normally read, yet I still enjoyed it and will be sharing it with others.
This wasn't a normal story in the way it was written and felt kind of like a narration to me in the sense that it was mostly narrative and contained the main characters direct thoughts and conversations without a lot of descriptiveness around them or of the area. I don't really know how to explain it other than it felt like a movie script with just the words each person would say or think with no background or description of actions. That said, it was still written really well. The mother-daughter connection was sweet and the way that them being a military family was described really well. Trauma from losing someone in action is hard for anyone, and it shows their growth years later and how they can move on and find peace and love again while still holding their lost loved ones dear.
Some parts of this made me really irritated though, because the whole premise is that our main character lost a family heirloom ring that meant everything to them and has been looking for it for 4+ years, praying every single day to find it, putting up posters with a picture of it, and visiting antique stores hoping to find it. Enter the main male character, Ben. He owns an antique store with his dad and is a super antique enthusiast and man of God. When they meet, she describes the ring a little but NEVER SHOWS HIM A PHOTO OF IT... despite having posters of it. He looks at stores for her and even looks online but never saw a photo the entire time. As a cheesy Hallmark movie would have it, his shop of course ended up having it, and at 69% into the book, ding, ding, ding, we have a ring...but he doesn't know it's hers because he never saw it. HOW SILLY.
Thank you NetGalley for the ARC for Camp NetGalley. I felt like Christmas in July would be good, and I'm glad I picked this little novella even though it's nowhere near what I usually read.

Trigger warning: mention of military war and death, death of a loved one
This is my first book by Karen Kingsbury, but it certainly won't be my last! Let me start by saying that I love all things Christmas, all year long. So when I got the chance to read this book early through NetGalley, I jumped at the opportunity!
We follow the story of Vanessa Mayfield after the loss of her husband, leaving her a military widow and single mother. After she drops her daughter off for college, she stops into a small antique store looking for her lost family heirloom "The Christmas Ring". While in the store, she meets Ben and they quickly bond over the loss of a loved one. Their story blossoms from there and soon find themselves at Christmas time asking for a Christmas Miracle.
This is a short easy read that is perfect for any time of year. It's a story of loss and love, grief and finding happiness again. It does focus a lot on God and prayer, so if that's not your cup of tea then be warned...however, I found it uplifting and lovely. I can't wait to read this story again and again; and also see the movie!
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for allowing me to read this book early. I 1000000% loved everything about it!

The Christmas Ring is a heartfelt holiday story that captures love, hope, and the magic of second chances. Karen Kingsbury delivers a cozy, emotional read perfect for the season, weaving together themes of family, faith, and the power of rekindled love. The characters feel warm and relatable, and the story carries that classic Kingsbury touch filled with heartfelt moments and a reminder of what truly matters during Christmas. It’s a quick, uplifting read that leaves you with a sense of joy and a little bit of Christmas magic.
Thank you NetGalley for the copy

On D-Day, Vanessa's great, great grandfather survives an attack by the enemy. As he and his fellow soldiers hide out hoping to be rescued, he finds a ring buried in the ground. This ring gets passed down by each generation. When it comes to Vanessa, she wears it everyday and cherishes it and the rich history that goes along with it. When the unthinkable happens and the ring is lost, Vanessa searches for it for several years. An unlikely meeting with Ben in his family's antique shop turns her life around. This story is about love, faith, second chances and miracles. I enjoyed reading this book. Karen Kingsbury is a favorite author of mine. I received a complimentary copy of this book. The opinions expressed are my own.
