Many thanks to NetGalley, Forgotten Rites Publishing and Victoria Editing for providing an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

DNF at 50% — but to be clear, this was NOT because it was a bad book; it simply wasn’t for me.

Echoes of the Other World is written in lush, poetic prose that won’t be for everyone—but for the right reader, it’s beautifully done. The writing has a lyrical, almost dreamlike quality that creates an insanely beautiful mystical atmosphere.

This is definitely a book for readers who enjoy symbolism and abstract storytelling. Much of the meaning is layered and open to interpretation, which can be rewarding but also requires patience and close attention.

For me: I do wish I had gone in with a stronger background in Irish mythology—there are clear mythological influences that I only partially understood and had to look up as I went along. Readers more familiar with that lore will likely take even more away from the experience.

I wasn’t the biggest fan of the repetitive sentence structures, even though I understand it was an intentional stylistic choice. At times, it disrupted the flow for me rather than enhancing it.

Overall? It depends on what you're looking for in a book. If you enjoy traditional narrative structure, linear plot progression, and clear-cut character motivations, this probably won't be your cup of tea. But if you're drawn to poetic prose, mystical themes, and a symbolic, layered reading experience—you might find something truly special here.

✨ARC Review✨
I received an arc copy from Netgalley and all opinions are of my own.

⭐⭐⭐⭐
Echoes of the Otherworld completely swept me away with its lyrical writing and deeply rooted mythic atmosphere.

Very delicate in writing style and appropriately paced - very poetic
it was very steeped in ancient Irish mythology yet grounded in deep emotional truth.

at Riona's side are a blind poet, a silent warrior, and an ancestral spirit who remembers what the world wants to forget. Together, they must face the breaking of the old ways—and decide what must be carried forward.

The character development was very detailed and made my soul fly to the ends of the earth

I enjoyed this read very much as it is not something i would read so i am very surprised of finishing it and loving the story so far!

This book was amazing and unique to the genre - love that it took place in historical Ireland (unusual to come across). Delicate in writing style and appropriately paced - very poetic and creates a clear image in your head. I look forward to continuing this series

I’ve got a master’s degree in history, and one of my favorite classes was the History of Ireland, so I was very excited to dive head first into this book. It did not disappoint! The characters felt real, developed and it is clear thought was put into them. The descriptions and imagery made me feel like I was traveling through the green lands of Ireland!

Riona (awesome name!) and her abilities left me feeling like I shared the same powers. Unraveling history lost to time? Fantastic.

RECOMMEND!!

So very interested in getting my hands on book 2!

My copy was provided by Netgalley.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

There are some intriguing ideas at play in Echoes of the Otherworld—a fractured reality, elusive magic, and a protagonist stuck between truth and illusion. But the execution didn’t quite land for me. The pacing felt disjointed, and I struggled to connect emotionally with the characters.

There’s ambition in the worldbuilding, and I appreciated the effort to craft something different, but the story often got bogged down in its own complexity. I wanted more clarity, more urgency. It felt like the potential was just out of reach.

A beautiful tale of Irish history, mythology and folklore.

The imagery in this book is absolutely stunning. What struck me the most was how Quill managed to communicate so much of Riona as a character in very few words.

The writer uses Irish folklore, and ancient history to create Riona’s mystical journey. Beautiful written and you fall in love with Riona’s courage and determination. Can’t wait for book 2 in this series!
