I thought this was a great story with a fantastic twist. However, the things that did not work for me : I found Lana’s back and forth of doubting herself exhausting and boring. The ending felt rushed. I did enjoy the epilogue and hearing everyone’s pov for one last time. I love this author, and I did like the idea of this story, it just fell a little flat and didn’t progress quickly enough in my opinion.

Although I really enjoyed reading this book, I did find that some of the chapters dragged a bit for me. However, there was a good level of suspense and twists in the book

I usually love Nicole's books but I just couldnt get away with this one. Sorry it's not for me
Thanks to Netgalley for the opportunity to read this ARC

Unrealistic and just not likely. I felt like the characters in this book were made to be disliked but in a bad way.

I love this author but unfortunately it didn't have the wow factor for me. It was flat, the chapters dragged on and I did guess the who, so it become very predictable. It was good but I can't say I loved it.

This one is the mother of twisty psychological thrillers. And while I did guess the final twist pretty early on i do love a good thriller packed full of secrets, lies and jaw dropping twists.

I have read a few other books by Nicole Trope and I love her writing style, and I was very happy to have received the arc for The Therapist.
This book was like no other. It kept me wanting more the entire book. And I felt like I really know the people and then BAM what a twist she threw in there!! Will definitely continue reading her books!! Quick easy reads!!
Everyone thinks they can trust their therapist. We are good listeners. But what if we’re good liars, too?
The therapist: I love my job. People tell me their worries, their fears. Then Sandy becomes my patient. Something about her tears as she cries about her husband doesn’t feel right. But I tell her she can trust me. I promise to keep her secrets… for now.
The patient: I never should have married Mike. My head is a mess. All I want is for someone to listen. At least I can trust my therapist – she believes everything I say. And I’m going to show the world exactly what my dear husband is really like.
The husband: We used to be so happy. I just want my smiling, beautiful wife back. I was glad when Sandy signed up for therapy. But one day, Sandy doesn’t come home. I’m frantic. Then her therapist knocks on the door and says we need to talk… what has Sandy told her about our marriage?
Someone is missing. Someone is in danger. Someone is a liar. Who will you believe?

I hadn't read anything by this author before, but I absolutely love anything to do with the mind and psychology....especially a good psychological thriller.
Therapist Lana agrees to take on a colleague's patient, Sandy, who is struggling with opening up in her sessions about her abusive husband.
But it soon becomes clear that there's more going on that we get to see.
When Sandy goes missing, we're left wondering what and who we can really trust.
I loved the setting - a little behind the scenes with the therapy sessions - a place of safety and a place to open up and speak your mind.
But I really struggled to fully gel with Lana.
There was just something about her that left me feeling uncomfortable and this stopped me investing fully in the storyline.
The characters felt unreliable and this built up the suspense and created a tense atmosphere which even felt a little claustrophobic at times.
I found that I was just waiting for something else to happen or for the next twist.
The premise was really intriguing but I felt the pacing dipped a bit in the middle section for a short time, before picking up again ready for everything to come together and for the reveal towards the end.
After finishing, I did look back and feel I'd enjoyed this read, so I'll definitely be looking forward to seeing more from this author soon.

"We all carry baggage but it's not an excuse to hurt someone."
This was good. Really good.
Pacing was good. Never dragged on. Enjoyed the writing style. The story, the premise, the execution are all excellent. One small thing I really liked was the handling of first person (Lana and Sandy) and third person (Mike) perspectives. It never felt jarring and there was a good balance.
Characters are the backbone of this story. Whether it's good natured Lana, frustrated Mike, charming Ben or scheming Sandy, they are all enjoyable to read. One character that I really liked wasn't even in the story that much: William Owens. Even the secondary characters are good. Becky, the children, the police, Mike's parents, Kirsty.
The backstories for Lana and Mike are tragic as all hell. Even when you know what's coming, it still hits like a gut punch. The scene with Mike in the car hitting himself was just...incredible. I could feel the pain through the pages. And the reveal of Lana's motivation for becoming a therapist is just masterfully written. It just leaves you with a few lines and your imagination makes it so much worse than any words could ever do.
As for Sandy and Ben, these are two characters written to be hated and boy did they accomplish that objective. Sandy's chapters are fascinating to read. The narcissism, the hatred, and the delusion are excellently written.
Last two books (not from this author, just in general) I read had epilogues that slightly ruined the story for me. Thankfully, that's not the case here. It gave closure to the characters and a nice little reveal while keeping things realistic. Also liked that all three POVs were included in the epilogue.
It is a short book (240+ pages). Easy to read. Executes all the twists and turns in a satisfying way, keeps the tension and the mystery up, and resolves it in a good way. Even if you can figure out the mystery or the people behind all the chaos, it's a worthwhile read just for the characters alone.
Highly recommended. 👍

3.5⭐️ rounded up. This was definitely an entertaining read. It will keep you guessing because I had no idea who to believe. Some parts are a bit unbelievable but I still enjoyed it!

"The Therapist" by Nicole Trope is a psychological thriller with a promising setup. Lana, a therapist with past trauma, takes on a new client, Sandy, who claims to be in an abusive marriage. As Sandy's story grows, Lana becomes emotionally entangled, and the lines between patient and therapist blur. The suspense is decent but not as heart-pounding as expected from Trope's best. The story explores manipulation, vulnerability, and blurred boundaries in a therapeutic setting, but the execution is not as emotionally immersive as expected. A well-written and intriguing story.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC.

The story centers around a woman who takes in a therapist—Saskia—into her home as a lodger. However, Saskia has a hidden agenda. She is not just there to rent a room; she’s there to uncover the truth about a traumatic past event involving the homeowner’s son.
As layers peel back, the novel alternates perspectives and timelines, slowly revealing secrets, emotional scars, and disturbing truths. The tension builds steadily toward a chilling and emotionally charged climax.
Although I found it difficult to get into, this is the second book by Nicole Trope and I will definitely be looking into her other books

I found The Therapist to be quite an exciting read! I really enjoyed the story being told from the therapist’s point of view — I’ve always thought it must be such an interesting job, hearing so many different stories.
Back to the book though: the twists were strong and kept me hooked. Spoiler alert 🚨
One thing I do sometimes struggle with is when the narrator turns out to be unreliable. While it definitely adds shock value, it can also feel a bit like we’ve just been reading a lie, which takes away from the payoff for me. Hard to explain, but it left me a little conflicted.
Overall though, I did enjoy this one and I’d recommend it if you like psychological thrillers!

Thank you Netgalley for my copy.
I enjoyed this book in the end.
Some thing(s) I liked:
✅the setting
✅The twists
✅Fun to hate on the baddies when they're so obvious
✅The ending
Some thing(s), not so much:
⭕Jarring personal physical descriptions from the narrator. I don't care about your brown eyes or your age unless it's wholely relevant (it wasn't)
⭕Same with literally every other character, even those mentioned in passing (again, totally irrelevant)
⭕Very slow to start

I found The Therapist by Nicole Trope to be a fast-paced psychological thriller that kept me on the edge of my seat. I really enjoyed how the story delves into the complexities of trust, manipulation, and the blurred lines between victim and perpetrator.
The alternating viewpoints added a tense atmosphere, and I often found myself unsure of who to trust. The suspense built gradually, and the twists genuinely challenged my assumptions. That said, some of the characters’ motivations and actions didn’t always feel believable to me, which pulled me out of the story a few times.
Overall, I thought it was a compelling exploration of psychological dynamics and human relationships. If you like suspenseful thrillers that keep you guessing, I’d say this one is worth a read.

I do enjoy psychologist and unreliable narrator tropes, both of which played a role here.
This was a quick read, and overall good. I can’t say I knew exactly how it would shake out, but I definitely saw the “villain” character from a mile away. I think the author could have hidden that a bit better, or steered us down a different path to provide more shock value.
I also wished I would have connected with the MC a bit more. Felt wishy washy.
Despite all of that, it hooked me particularly in the second half!

I got this book from NetGalley, so I owe them an honest review.
I did my best to get into it, but I kept rolling my eyes because the characters seemed too stupid, the writing sounded redundant in some places, and when it came to the twists, at least one of them was just too much for the story to be at least slightly believable. For fans of The Silent Patient (which I found far-fetched, too), this may be worth a read, but I must warn people who are deep into psychology that this is not for them.
The protagonist is a sad excuse for a therapist (or an employer, for that matter). She turns from struggles in her own life to listening to those of a woman who may be lying. For what purpose remains to be seen. Things get more and more complicated along the way.
It's an easy read, but must be taken with a biiiig grain of salt.

Thank you NetGalley & Bookouture for the chance to read this book
This was a pretty fast paced twisty ride, although predictable from pretty much the beginning you still keep reading just to see if you're right or if another twist is going to spin things around again! Rating is really a 3.5 but for goodreads sake just rounding up to 4

A mysterious and twisty read with intriguing characters. This was a quick, fast-paced read with unexpected twists. It wasn't spectacular but it was good.

I love everything that this author writes. It’s best to go into this book blind. There is no way of knowing who is telling the truth. Suspenseful and entertaining.
