Fast paced, edge of your seat thriller. The characters are all so unreliable and everyone is suspect, I had everyone pinpointed as involved somehow. I love a good psychological thriller that makes my mind twist and turn all throughout and this book hit the mark! I also love books with multiple character POV and this book had a number of them. I don't want to say too much in fear of spoiling it but I will say, go in blind & enjoy the ride!

It does my head in when a story has more than one unreliable narrator in it. I suspect this is precisely what the author was aiming for, in which case she nailed it. I was quickly and completely caught up in the chaos of this story and needed a minute to untwist my mind after finishing it. 😅

This is a book involving two therapists and a troubled married couple. One of the therapists, Ben, refers his client, Sandy, to his colleague, Lana, after Sandy admits to having feelings for him. Lana reluctantly takes her on and encounters her own set of challenges with this stunning and complex woman. What plays out is a messy and fraught situation where lines are crossed, lives are endangered, and the truth is near impossible to find.

Every character in this story needs therapy! I write that while recognising that this book made me question a few things about therapy. Are there people who are beyond therapy? How often might someone with harmful motives involve a therapist in their destructive plan? It's a dark line of thought and one this author does a great job of exploring while successfully and simultaneously unravelling the minds of her characters and readers page after gripping page.

I flew through this one in a day. The only reason I didn't give it five stars is because I saw the ending coming long before I wanted to. I also struggled to connect with any of the characters. Will happily read this author again, though.

First, I want to thank Nicole Trope, Bookouture and NetGalley for providing me with this book so I can bring you this review.

WOW!!! The Therapist is one of Nicole Trope best psychological thriller’s if not the best and deserve’s more than 5 stars!! I absolutely loved the totally twisted storyline that was intertwined into this fast paced addicting page turner. This is one read that would be interesting to see unfold as a Netflix series.

The graphic artists once again did their magic and created an amazing eye catching cover! This cover however went above and beyond and screamed read me!! Along with the cover, the description of the book, the title and being a fan of Nicole’s writing I knew this was a book I had to read. I am so glad that I did.

Instantly, Nicole sucks you into her fast paced storyline and grabs your attention fast and keeps it there throughout the whole book. This makes me happy when an author does this!

Oh this story had a lot of family drama, wicked twists and turns, and shocking moments! This is a must read!

I wasn't sure about this to begin with as I thought it might be predictable. Some characters are obviously the bad guys and it seemed like they had the upper hand. However, things are not clear cut and you are pulled into a false sense of security only for things to twist later on.

It's interesting how things work out and clearly one character is very delusional and another gets the ending they deserve. Glad it worked that way 😊

Yet another fast paced thriller from Nicole Trope. A rollercoaster of twists and turns and an ending totally unexpected.

Good listener...good liar...?

Meet Lana. She's a therapist in private practice in Sydney's leafy suburbs and still bearing the emotional scars of her past. She was married to Oliver and together they had Iggy, now seven, until she discovered he was having an affair. Now he's married to a terminally happy and perfect woman named Becky. And Iggy adores her.

But she leaves her personal life behind when she comes to work. Although it's her personal life that has influenced the direction in which her professional life has taken as a therapist. After the tragedy of her past, she knew she wanted to help others better understand themselves and to help understand people better. She shares the practice with Ben, a psychologist from the UK. Everything is going smoothly until, against her better judgement, she takes on one of Ben's clients who has developed transference and is in complete and utter despair.

Meet Sandy. She comes to Lana on Ben's recommendation and confides that she is in a controlling and abusive marriage. She loves her husband but she doesn't love the way he lets his anger get the better of him. She just wants the husband she met and married back...before he hurts her, or worse - one of the children - Lila (5) and Felix (7).

Meet Mike. Sandy's husband is despair of his own. He cannot understand what is going on with his wife. One minute she's up, the next she's down. But either way she's always screaming or crying. He just wants his happy smiling wife back. He'll even go to therapy with her if it means it will help her.

And then Sandy disappears.

When Sandy doesn't show for her next appointment, Lana is worried. Sandy said something in the last session which gives her cause for concern now. She is certain her husband Mike knows more than he's letting on and against her better judgement (again) she goes around to Sandy's house to confront Mike and says that they need to talk. But Mike wonders what has Sandy said to her about their marriage. Surely she hasn't told her...everything?

Lana is caught in a tangled web of secrets, lies and uncertainty. She has crossed the boundaries between patient and therapist by turning up at her door but Lana finds herself questioning just exactly what is truth and what is fiction? She isn't sure what to believe anymore. And then the text message arrives.

"Help me Lana. I think he's going to kill me."

Lana knows whatever has happened, she needs to know that Sandy is safe. And Mike of course doesn't help himself by behaving just the way Sandy claims. It's a classic "he said/she said" with a complex twist. And Lana doesn't know what or who to believe.

Honestly, Mike and Sandy were a train wreck. But who do you believe? Lana has listened to them and watched them both and even she's confused, questioning her judgement as well as reality. What is truth and what is fiction? She can't quite tell. And Lana was a tough one to connect with. She didn't really open herself up at all so it was hard to know who she really was and how she was feeling or what she was thinking.

Like all of Trope's "tropes", this tale is multi-layered with tension and complexity, delving into psychological themes of trust and deception. The story was easily predictable but it didn't ruin it for me - it just wasn't completely surprising as we watch it unfold. Trope drip-feeds us little by little by the climax before pulling the rug out from under us to reveal what's really going on.

It was a slightly slower build than some of Trope's other offerings and I found both Lana and Sandy equally irritating that it was hard to slip into rhythm. But by the end, I had fairly enjoyed the ride. The ending was satisfactory though I would have liked to hear from that last final voice. When you read it, you will know what I mean. It would have been good to get that final perspective.

I would like to thank #NicoleTrope, #Netgalley and #Bookouture for an ARC of #TheTherapist in exchange for an honest review.

Thank you Bookouture and Netgalley for this arc! Yet another book where Nicole Trope has you sitting on the edge of your seat with everything going on and the ending you don’t see coming! When therapist Lana takes over her colleagues patient and gets wrapped up on Sandys safety from her abusive husband. Nothing can prepare you for the layers in this story you won’t and can’t put down.

Well didn’t this one just twist and turn every which way. Going to see a therapist is supposed to be helpful but what if it isn’t? This is a crazy good story, one where you will not know who is telling the truth and who is lying. It’s one you won’t want to put down! 4 1/2 star read!

Don't you just love a book filled with twists and turns??? Well, this book delivers both full throttle!!! Just when you think you know one thing, something else is presented to you, and that's when you realize that you still don't know what's going on! I love how the book is presented in alternating characters. This allows the readers to develop a closer relationship with each main character. The powerful thing about books with this type of suspenseful subject matter is that things like this do happen, and it's not just a work of fiction. I am planning to go right now and read the other title by this author because I love her writing style. Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC of this book and for introducing me to this author! I will be sharing this title with my book club friends and my coworkers who love this genre of books!

I may be in a minority here, but I found reading this book a chore rather than gripping. For me the characters were very frustrating, and it seemed to take a long time to come to the inevitable conclusion.
Lana is a therapist and shares rooms with a fellow therapist Ben. Ben comes to Lana and reveals he has a patient, Sandy who is flirting with him and to whom he feels an attraction. Lana reluctantly agrees to take Sandy on. From the first visit Lana ignores all the red flags in treating this patient and acts outside her training in dealing with the fallout of this patient/ therapist relationship.
I found the execution of the story quite clumsy and nearly gave up on it a few times but hung in there to the end for a conclusion that I felt was obvious from the start.
Thank you Netgalley and Bookouture for the opportunity to read this digital ARC.

I really liked it. This was a one day, ‘had to finish it’ read for me. The famous unlikeable character(s) that drives you mad but you can’t put the book down without knowing what they’ve schemed next carry the story and had me shaking my head. The short, POV identified chapters read quickly. The story is fast paced and riddled with twists. As always, I look forward to Nicole Trope’s next title. (3.5/5)

The Therapist is an intriguing psychological thriller, which kept me interested until the very twisted ending.
Lana is a psychologist, who inherits a new patient from her colleague. The woman, Sandy, is afraid of her abusive husband, and seeks therapy.
Ultimately, her husband, Mike, is brought into the session, but his they both blame the other one of abuse.
Lana gets very involved, and ends up in a web of lies, dangerous behavior and deceit.

This book kept me interested until suspense, right up to the final twist!

Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for the advanced copy in return for my honest review.

This was such a quick read and had me locked in from the very beginning—not because of lyrical writing or deep character arcs, but because it’s just so wild. The storyline is layered and chaotic in the best way, and I could barely keep up—in a good way. The twists come fast and often, and while I didn’t love the narrator, the nonstop suspense kept me invested. If you’re in the mood for a fast, twisty psychological thriller, this one definitely delivers.

This had everything that I was looking for and enjoyed getting into the psychological thriller concept, I enjoyed the overall concept and how the therapist that I was hoping for. The characters had that element that I was wanting and enjoyed the overall journey in this book. Nicole Trope has that element that works in the genre and the characters were on point.

I am not even going to try and summarise this book. Best to go into it blind like I did! It is one of those stories which keeps you constantly on the edge of your seat. There is no way of knowing who is telling the truth and as you read you swing back and forth and just as you think you have it sorted the author comes back with another twist.

Definitely full of suspense and very entertaining - Nicole Trope always seems to be able to pull out something new. Highly recommended if you enjoy unreliable narrators!

The Therapist is a gripping and fast-paced psychological thriller that had me hooked from the first pages. I really enjoyed the multiple perspectives—it added depth and tension without ever becoming confusing. The characters were well-drawn and believable, and I appreciated how their personal stories unfolded alongside the mystery.

That said, I found the plot a little predictable at times. Even though there were a few twists toward the end, I had a pretty good idea of what was going on early on. Still, the journey was enjoyable, and it didn’t take away too much from the experience.

Perfect for fans of psychological thrillers looking for a quick, engaging read with solid character work.
